The best sushi I've ever eaten and I've had sushi in large cities like Dallas and Kansas City. The batter on the fried sushi is crisp, light, and fluffy. Not greasy. The sauces don't overwhelm the sushi and each ingredient compliments the fish on each roll I've eaten. I've been there 6 times now and I try something new every time and no complaints yet. I always order the Crunchy Cucumber Crabstick Salad appetizer and can't wait for it to come to the table. I love this sushi restaurant and will find it hard to ever go somewhere else. read more

Service was great and that's the only reason they didn't get 1 star. These sushi rolls are the smallest rolls I've ever seen. If I'm buying a specialty roll for $15 it shouldn't be smaller than your typical California roll you'd get at any other sushi restaurant. You couldn't even tell the difference between the rolls really. These were about 3/4" in diameter and about 6" long. I've gotten bigger and better rolls at food city. And it's really strange to see NASCAR paintings in a sushi restaurant. I knew the minute I saw the outside of the building and the weird paintings that things weren't going to go well. Once we got home and sat down to eat the crab rangoons had hardly any filling, the white sauce was like water, and the amount of food was pitiful and burnt. This was one of our go to restaurants in Mt Airy. Our number one mysteriously closed suddenly (Old North State). And now they changed the menu here. They got rid of their hibachi grill. So no more hibachi chicken or beef. In fact there is no more chicken or beef anything. The sushi is good, the rolls are good. I have never had poke. Was playing somewhat loud when we were seated, and although no other guests were watching it, we asked politely and our server turned the volume completely down for us. We have dined here or taken out meals since they opened and have always been totally happy with our food. After a few months of not ordering from there we decided we needed our 'fix'. Once we got home disappointment set in. The shrimp, scallops, chicken and beef were dry. The only vegetables given were mushy broccoli, large slices of onions and a few tiny mushrooms. No more zucchini. The carrots no longer had any taste either. Total disappointment! The cost has gone from $25 to $40 for the 2 family meals in a few years, I'm sure inflation plays a huge part but the quality of food should not suffer. We will not be going back. read more

Went here yesterday with my boyfriend and my parents joined us later, we ordered four rolls all together and the sushi chief put all four rolls on one plate and the waitress didn't clarify what was done. So we thought it was only one of our orders. Since we weren't made aware, I was sitting hungry for 30 minutes waiting for my food. I had ordered first and never got my food, and then they finally told us by the time my boyfriend was almost finished with the food. They apologize multiple times but we're definitely not sincere. They made us pay for everything anyways. They even had the nerve to ask if we wanted to buy more food... they are overpriced and not worth going. Kyotos @ Mount Airy is top of the list for best eats in Mount Airy. My grandmother took me here often when I was younger, and eating their food is nostalgic at this point. The soup (to die for) and the salad w/ dressing is a meal in itself! I had the teriyaki steak w/ mixed veggies and white rice, my boyfriend had the steak and chicken - both were AMAZING. We also indulged on the mango sushi, it's now one of my favorites, alongside the fried jalapeño sushi which I can NEVER get enough of. don't like cream cheese? you will after eating that entire roll. Our waiter, not sure of his name but he's there almost all the time, was phenomenal. Anytime I've went and he's the server - it's hard not to pull out every dollar of mine to tip him. We were looking for a vegetarian friendly place to eat so we stopped here. Most Japanese Restaurants have great vegetarian options. Not this one. There is 1 vegetable hibachi dish so since we were starving we both ordered it. My husband asked that it be spicy. They told him "we don't cook with spice, people don't like spice". We should have ran after hearing this. We got our food and it all taste like burnt oil, it was terrible. The steamed rice was very dry. The best part of the meal was the unsweetened tea. After spending 9/27 from 8pm-9pm sitting waiting for 2 rolls I probably won't be back. There was a party of 2 that had finished eating and a party of 7 who they kept claiming was the reason for the delay. I felt bad for the woman up front who was apologizing to everyone who was waiting excessive amounts of time. There was only 1 person actually making food (on a Friday night!) and 2 on their phones. I was told "sorry", "your food will be up next" and even offered a drink after 45 minutes. After waiting an hour my husband had to come in and get me and my kid were crying in the car. I asked for a refund and left. *review based on takeout sushi only* Have gotten sushi here about 4-5 times now and I am impressed with the large selection, they recently got a new menu with even more options. The sushi is always prepared well and delicious. The staff over the phone however seem rushed or uninterested in customers but have always been very polite when I go in to pick up the food. The customer service here is absolutely horrible!! We were trying to call in an order for pickup. The order was for 4 people and we had to ask a question regarding how they cooked their chicken because one of the orders the girl was allergic to pork and could not have the chicken cooked on the same grill. After that I went to start the order and the guy taking the order over the phone said "can you hurry up and talk faster?" I said excuse me he said I have customers in front of me I said Sir we are paying customers too who would like some lunch. After that he promptly hung up on me. So way to go!! Great customer service. Kyotos never disappoint! i go here a lot for their pork dumplings and the pork hibachi. absolutely one of my favorites to get. the first time i got their dumplings, i kept coming back. their Kyoto soup is for the soul. so tasty and delicious. they have really good sushi as well! the workers are so friendly and make sure you have everything you need in your bag if you are doing take out. i have been to multiple different places for their dumplings and hibachi, nothing is as good as Kyotos. will always keep coming here. definitely recommend!! read more

Y'all the kids and I are here tonight. I had a hair in my food then the manager goes off saying that the last time I ate inside I complained of the shrimp. Not once have I ever ate at the inside of this restaurant. This was my first time ever eating on the inside and I get talked to like I'm nothing.
