Pork gyozas = SO crispy & flavorful Spicy garlic beef lunch special + fried rice swap +(miso soup that comes w/ it) 5/5 Portion size was great for a lunch special: super filling, delicious, and honestly such a good deal. Gyozas were a hit, beef was tender, rice was perfect. Loved it. Check out the full review on Instagram: @ratedbyaleena

I never knew about this place until my friend suggested it. We went for lunch on a Thursday and it was quite busy. Lots of people doing take out. There is a separate lunch menu you can order from. I had chicken and vegetables from lunch menu. Came with choice of soup (hot & sour or miso). Hot and sour was good. Lots of tables, but just an open, busy place with not alot of ambiance. Service was very good. Will be back!

If you are looking for sushi on the south side of Milwaukee, Kyoto is a must stop. We always order a few of the special rolls plus a couple starters. Greenfield and Titanic our some of our favorites. Gyoza and the edamame are also great ways to start your dining experience. Be warned however. The Rickys Maki comes with a raspberry sauce and maybe mango. Unless you like shrimp and fruit combinations, stay away. It's not clear on the menu that it comes with 2 fruit forward sauces and we were disappointed when this roll came covered in them. On a positive note, the recently expanded dining room and bar area can accommodate your larger parties easier. Service is always attentive without being overbearing. We still enjoy it here and are now taking notes on which rolls to stay away from.

Always love going to Kyoto for their sushi lunch special. Two rolls for $12.95 served with soup and salad. Great deal and amazing sushi. Some of my favorite in the area. The service is also always top notch - friendly and quick.

Great experience for our girls night at Kyoto. The waiter was very patient with us trying to make decisions. We got a little bit of everything - sushi, shashimi, orange chicken, etc. everything was super fresh and came out quickly. We will definitely be back for their lunch special

Kyoto is my sushi go-to spot in Milwaukee! The sushi is always on point, Dragon Roll & Tempura rolls are my favorite and their fried rice is seriously the BEST I've ever had. I come here so often they know my name and order. Their service is the best!

This is my go-to take away sushi spot. Clearly they do a ton of take away business/door dash because there were about 10 orders ready on the table as I walked in. I take that as a good sign! I love this 12 piece sushi meal, it lasts me 2 days (I get a few other things as well) and the quality is always spot on. Hamachi is my all time favorite fish and it is always melt-in-my-mouth delicious from here. They're generous with their portions and always quick and friendly.

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants! They have great Sunday lunch deals and their bento boxes provide huge portions with a variety of different options! I've been to Koyot 15+ times and service has always been great! For ambience, the restaurant has a japanese theme and the chairs are comfy. This is a real outlet mall gem!

I've been coming here for about 18 years and am not sure what has happened to my once favorite place? Service has really gone down the tubes. We couldn't find our waitress for most of the meal. They expanded the dining room but it was the quietest I've ever heard it during lunch. We always sub an eel and avocado roll for our roll. Normally it's a dollar. The waitress was going to charge us $3. What once was an affordable lunch is now up to &45. For that price we can go to AYCE.

Update: They created a waiting area in the front, so easily 5 stars now! Keep up the great work, Kyoto!

Date of visit: March 30, 2024 A friend took us here for dinner as she had raved about it on a visit a couple weeks prior. She warned us that it was very unassuming and not fancy being in a strip mall but that wasn't an issue for us at all; the bigger issue is that we weren't huge fans of the food. Service was very good, staff came by frequently to ensure that we had what we needed, though I would have appreciated a more proactive approach to clearing dirty plates and dishes. Speaking of the dishes, they were quite nice, adorned with the restaurant's name and logo, a nice touch that I would not have expected from such an establishment. Turning to the food, the miso soup was nothing to write home about. It certainly wasn't bad, but it also wasn't the least bit memorable. I also was a bit underwhelmed by the green tea (both of these items made my nostalgic for the Yen Ching of old!) that they served. I am a big fan of crab rangoon but they put onions in it here, which was odd and disconcerting, I have never experienced this. Scallions, of course, but not plain onions. Thumbs down on that one. A highlight was the Orange Chicken! A wonderful, crispy shell protected a moist, succulent chicken breast that was good the first night and nearly as tasty a couple days later for lunch!

My go to sushi spot! Always fresh, great service and comfortable atmosphere. The best in the area.

Good place for carry out. On time. Conveniently located off the highway. There's not many Asian restaurants I'd the area with this quality or sushi. Crunchy California Roll light tempura ring. Somewhat large, cream cheese Spicy Tuna Roll good. Teriyaki Chicken Roll chicken a little tricky in sushi. Good with soy sauce. Spicy Asian shrimp really good. Sauce not thick. A little kick at the end. The Thai shrimp Currie is great! One of better ones in the area. The teriyaki shrimp doesn't have that much much or a wowing flavor.

    Ask the Community - Kyoto

As of today, is this place open with indoor dining?

Yes, they are open to indoor dining again. They require masks and a temperature check at the door before being seated.

Does anyone know if they have removed some tables so you can have some social distance if you eat in? I know generally seating is pretty tight.

I do not believe they are offering in house dining. Carry out only until further notice.

What time is the all you can eat (sun-Tuesday)? Is it for dinner only or all day?

It is all day, but only on those days you mentioned Sun-Tues and there are several items that have an additional charge if you see a dollar amount next to the item on the all you can eat menu.

Is sashimi included in the all you can eat?

Yes, there are some sashimi choices on the all you can eat menu.

I searched for all you can eat and this place comes up? I went there twice and I don't see all you can eat option

    It's available Sunday to Tuesday

Do you have gluten free options?

I checked with the owner. They don't have gluten free options

When we asked him to check the manufacturer label for dairy/egg, he said he "maybe could do that". That was a weird start. Our first round of orders were really disappointing. Our tempera and crab rangoons were soaked in oil and the oil tasted like it was old. We had to soak up the oil from the plate because you could see it dripping from the rangoon. The shrimp tempera was heavily breaded and super oily as well. I understand fried food is going to have a certain level of oil, but this didn't seem appetizing at all. Our Nigiri pieces came out and our fish was warm. Honestly, we mentioned something to our waiter and the response was that the rice was recently made so it was warm. That made us a bit skeptical. Overall our experience was not the best. The sushi was uneventful and didn't taste fresh. I was pretty disappointed and I rarely write a negative review. Jin's - honestly I hope you do better moving forward. This was a bummer.

We were sat around 6:30. I understand they were busy and it is a holiday, so no biggie. We ordered our drinks and we got the soup and salad pretty quickly. Unfortunately we had to wait about 45 more min for our hibachi service to begin. Again, I understand it's busy and a holiday, but communication on wait time would have been appreciated. It looked like there were only two chefs for the entire hibachi section. Also, while we were waiting for the hibachi chef, our server never checked back in on us. We would have liked to order more drinks or maybe an appetizer. Our hibachi chef was super kind and entertaining. However, one consideration for the future is for the chefs to ask or explain before tossing the zucchini pieces or spraying water. I understand that's part of the fun for most guests, but we were with someone from another country and she was very startled and didn't understand what was going on. As a result, she got a few pieces of zucchini on her cute outfit and she was bummed about it. The food was good and I appreciated the cute decorations in the restaurant. Our group did agree our entrees could have had less soy sauce as it was a little salty.

While this is a normally good, quick lunch spot, we didn't leave until maybe an hour and a half later. The food was okay but not worth the poor service. The gyoza was pan fried and came out upside down with a giant pancake connecting them. Cute presentation and solid gyoza. The next was the calamari. This was probably our favorite dish overall. Huge portion for an appetizer. The calamari was lightly breaded with togarishi and a sweet and sour dipping sauce. Amazingly tender. I got the the scallop, 50/50 and salmon handrolls. My wife doesn't like raw fish and even she thought the handrolls were good. The scallop was awesome. Super sweet with a dash of chili oil. The short rib was our second favorite. Super tender and had deep, rich flavors. Shredding the beef and pouring some of the broth over white rice made a perfect bite. The seafood fried rice was also spectacular. Huge chunks of calamari, shrimp, crab. The pad Thai was only ok. It was too peanutty for me, but my wife and kids also were generally meh about it too. The Phuket #3 was also great. I ordered it first and my wife liked it so much (after drinking most of mine) ordered another. Where we sat at the bar, we were able to see the kitchen and our food (and others) begin prepared which was fun to see (and also nice from a transparency standpoint). Let me tell you--they are hustling in that kitchen! I began with a berry smash whiskey cocktail which was refreshing and fantastic. For my dinner, I got the bbq salmon which came with a salad to start and rice and asparagus on the side. Everything was fresh and flavorful. But luckily my husband quickly checked well before we were served and saw there were reservations available online, so he booked us one on the spot. We were peeved but decided we should just enjoy our dinner. BUT as we were finishing up, about 5 couples came in WITHOUT a reservation and both the host and the bartender gave each couple the option to either sit at the bar or at a table. When I confronted the bartender about it, she claimed "they weren't supposed to do that." WHAT?! She literally just offered a couple a table without a reservation. What do you mean?! It was insulting. Anyway, we will absolutely NEVER come back here. The tip we left was solely for the kitchen staff who were hard at work and doing an honest job. Bartender and hosts are discriminatory and awful. Do NOT recommend if you are looking to be treated with respect. Would give zero stars if that were an option.
