Normally no issues here. However got take out today. Received a large black hair mixed in with my sushi. I mean long piece. It's okay. It happens. However their response was terrible. Offered a free lunch next time. How does that help me now ? Also why would I like to return after this. Just wanted a refund. Every other restaurant does it. Threw out the whole thing. I read in a newspaper article that a local chef really enjoys Kyoto, so based on that, we stopped in. Can I remember his name? No. We ordered a Tsing Tao and coke for our drinks and a Godzilla Roll, Greenfield Special Maki and Snow White Maki for our meal. The Godzilla roll was spicy salmon, avocado, eel, and crab with tobiko (roe) on top and "crunchy" inside (so says the menu description). IMHO, it was better than the Godzilla roll at Fujiyama, and theirs was darn good! I could definitely taste the crab in this one, though. The Greenfield Special Maki was super spicy white tuna and avocado inside, topped with fresh tuna, salmon and yellowtail. It didn't taste spicy at all until I added some wasabi, but I didn't mind. This is what I think of when I think sushi.....a little rice roll topped with raw fish. It was very good. The Snow White Maki was recommended by at least one other yelper, so we jumped on it. Shrimp tempura, avocado and cream cheese inside with spicy crabmeat and tobiko on top. Whatever was on top looked like shredded cheese, but didn't taste like cheese OR crab, so I'm at a loss as to what it was. The tempura shrimp was only "in" the end pieces of the roll, which was perfect. It made eating those pieces a lot easier, as a sushi-sicle! The Snow White did not disappoint. My belly was near it's breaking point when the man decided to order another roll! The Butterfly Maki, to be exact: salmon, tuna, avocado and asparagus inside, yellowtail and salmon on top with chef's special sauce. I think that he thought because I was so full, that he'd get this one all to himself. WRONG! I managed to make room for two or three more pieces, much to his chagrin. It, too, was delicious. As others have said, the rolls weren't served at the same time. We got one, then halfway through devouring it, the other two arrived. Other than that, service was perfect. When we ordered the fourth roll, we had already finished the other three and our server removed all our dishes and brought us back clean ones. A nice, but unnecessary, touch. For those that are new to sushi, you are given chopsticks and a fork here. Don't want sushi? They have regular Asian fare such as General Tso's chicken and Pepper Steak, too. No hibachi. Ack! Came here during both a Sunday lunch and a Saturday night dinner rush. Over half of the patrons were wearing sweatpants both times. The fact that Kyoto is in a strip mall in Greenfield might clue you into the dress code, but regardless it's worth noting. No need to dress up here, and I'm okay with that. Items I have ordered and how I felt about them: Miso soup - standard fare, but good Age tofu - I've never had this before but holy crap, it's tasty and the portion was larger than I was expecting. I would have ordered less had I known this appetizer would have been so big Sweet potato roll - it's tempura and delicious Squid and avocado roll - so glad I can still get an ika roll somewhere in the city! Totally recommend Eel and avocado roll - again, standard fare but good Fried oyster maki - a fun item I've never had before, but I could hardly find the oyster in the roll Silent Scream maki - I usually stay away from place's signature rolls because I like to keep my bill down, but I took a chance on this and LOVED it. Wonderful combo of flavors with the lime, jalapeno, and tobiko. Very filling. Hot green tea is only A DOLLAR, can't go wrong there. I've been here twice. The best sushi I have ever had! I have traveled from coast to coast tasting different dishes and this is by far the best. You would never guess by the location, it is hidden in a small strip mall. When you walk in, the first thing you see is chefs preparing dishes. The service is excellent, the place is clean and prices are reasonable. I enjoyed a dinner box with edamame and a Godzilla roll. My fiancé ordered a dinner box with teriyaki chicken, gyoza and tempura shrimp. Everything was fantastic and I would highly recommend this place. read more

I'm not sure how to describe how awful the service was. Two of the four of us ordered the AYCE sushi. Despite the reminders, neither got their salad, and only one got her soup. The appetizers they ordered were only brought out after two reminders, and they had already finished their rolls. One of us ordered the shrimp and avocado roll, and the server brought out the spicy shrimp roll. When it was explained that the dinner couldn't eat the crunchy on that wrong roll, the server tried to argue that she could. That she actually COULD eat something she has an allergy to. This has always been my favorite sushi place, until now. It seems like it has changed hands or something major happened. Unfortunately, I will not be going back. read more

Their sashimi was thick and delicious. Our more complicated rolls were separately packed up so the sauces didn't get mixed together. Always come here when I'm craving some sushi and crab ragoons! Their crab ragoons are really good here and the sushi! I've had their chicken Pad Thai before and that's great too! I love how they have a variety of sushi rolls to choose from and a lunch special with soup and salad! Their hot sake is really good as well. Their service is good when you sit in, but sometimes when you place a to go order and pick it up they're not as friendly. The girls and guys could smile a bit.. I do really like how you can order online for pick up when that was working. Not sure what's wrong with it now. That makes it super convenient when you're just trying to grab food and go! With over 300 reviews Kyoto clearly has a lock on sushi in the area. In my experience they are getting comfortable and customer service suffered a bit. I walked in on a Sunday and it was a bit busy cause of the AYCE special. Unfortunately we were not acknowledged and the people who walked in behind me a couple minutes later were acknowledged right away. So busy that the host was running food, servers continuously coming in and out of host area with no where to wait for your table made my initial impression. The sushi is in fact delicious and the 6 chefs behind the sushi bar are rolling at record pace to keep up with the full tables. I can't get into detail about the rolls we had by name due to the loud and surroundings. I can say that the value and quality are fantastic. The service suffers tremendously. Love this place! I have been coming here for years and I've never had a bad meal! Their sushi is phenomenal and the entrees they serve are pretty amazing as well. I met my sister here recently for dinner and we decided to give some of their seafood entrees a try. They were both delicious. My sister tried the udon noodles and I opted for a spicy house special seafood! As always I got the miso soup best I've ever had along with the house salad that has the most amazing dressing!!! I realize this restaurant has been around for a very long time, but I had never been! This review is late, but as a birthday meal we ordered during the peak of the pandemic and I was very impressed. They have a very safe to-go setup and the food (sushi) was fantastic. Aside from the lack of ceramic plates the food quality was done in quality. I wanted hot saki and didn't specify over the phone. They were unable to do it as a to go item, but swapped out my sake for one I could warm at home at no additional charge. Very friendly staff and cannot wait to order from here again, but hopefully it's when we are sitting down next time! read more

This is one of my family's favorite local gems. The fish that we've ordered has always been fresh and the 10-12 rolls we've tried have all been delicious. My only disappointment with the menu is the chefs have Many rolls that are not listed on the menu. I found them by kindly asking the patrons what they are eating (sorry, I am that person to ask. In case it's you that I ask, please be kind). Give yourself a treat and try the Dynamite Shrimp and the Curry Chicken. They are incredibly good. The atmosphere has always been clean and inviting. The bench seats are a bit strange but that's being petty because the food is delicious and the service is friendly, prompt and attentive. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family does. It's not super expensive but it's not cheap either. But let's face it, if I could make it at home, I would. read more

When I first walked in, it had that skunky smell that you DON'T want your sushi to taste like... Sure, all you can eat is a good deal and you don't have to order it all at once, so that's nice for those who like to over-indulge. But, I've had much better sushi elsewhere. I did like the K1 roll that I ordered enough, the slice of lime gave a lot of freshness. The spicy lobster Maki, which I expected to have an awesome lobster flavor, had really NO flavor. And lots of rice = filler. I wouldn't suggest ordering it. Edamame, slightly over cooked but not too bad. Shrimp dumpling was decent, too. Partner ordered Rainbow & Sunshine rolls. Not something I'd order typically, so was just "ok" for me again. Wouldn't go out of my way to return. Just a bland experience. Even the waiter said at the end of our meal that the stuff NOT on the all-you-can-eat menu was better. He did notice how much saki we drank. Thanks, pal. It's WI. Oh Man!! Kyoto is, and has been for a very, very, very long time, my go-to place for sushi and other Japanese and Chinese fares. I often joke (but it is mostly true) that when the owners came from out east and bought the place, I was part of the deal. I have been eating sushi at this place for a long time before it was sold to Ricky, et al. After they bought the restaurant and ran it in the original small location, their subsequent addition of an AYCE menu instantly made me a die hard fan. The remodeling and expansion work they did a number of years ago has truly turned this place into a fine and admirable facility. The sushi menu contains a large collection of both traditional and non-traditional nigiri and rolls, as well as sashimi. There is a decent array of appetizers, both sushi and from the kitchen. Their Japanese entrees from the kitchen are all tasty, gorgeous, and very well prepared. As part of their expansion, a "Taste of Orient" section was added to the menu and this contains a nice selection of seafood as well as some fabulous Chinese dishes; my personal favorites being (in no particular order) the Kung Pao Chicken or Shrimp, Chicken & Walnut, and the Triple Delight. The lunch menu is nicely priced and contains some truly delightful meals and combos served as bento boxes. The hot saki and the hot green tea are the usual liquids for me but they have a nice offering of Japanese beers as well as Japanese soda (another of my periodic treats to myself). They have been well established for a long time now and all the work and experience is evident in the way the place runs. Although Ricky will still get behind the line and crank out some of the best sushi your mouth will ever taste, he is more often seen attending to the business and managing is large crew of expert sushi chefs these days. (His sister, on the other hand, is most often found in the kitchen putting out fabulous meals that require an expert's touch over the flame). I appreciate all they have done to bring the restaurant to the level it currently is and maintain such a great place for my palate that craves great Japanese and Chinese cuisine. My only regret is selfish and that is that while all of the notice and fame and recognition brings them more customers and success, with that increase in traffic it gets harder and harder for me to get a quick seat for a great meal these days. I wish them continued success and longevity so I may continue to enjoy the fruits of their labors!! read more

Stopped in to get a couple of rolls to go. Ordered spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls. They were ready in 15 minutes, you get a text with your order number when ready. Spicy tune and salmon were a a little spicy in a good way (not sure why some reviewers complain about these rolls being spicy when they specifically order "spicy" roll). The prices are on par with most other sushi restaurants, 2 rolls and a miso soup around $18. Everything tasted good and I will definitely eat here again when in the area. read more

AYCE for $25. Need I say more? AYCE is Sunday and Tuesday all day and Monday 4PM-close. The AYCE menu includes a soup or salad, as well as appetizers (edamame, potstickers, crab rangoon, seaweed salad, etc), sushi, and rolls. The roll menu includes simple rolls like spicy tuna or eel avocado (which most places would have for ~$6), as well as over ten specialty rolls, which most places would price over $12. You are charged for any uneaten pieces, so be sure to ration and choose wisely! We came after 1PM and were able to sit down right away, despite the place being very full. I would recommend ordering about 2-3 rolls per person initially, then ordering another round as soon as the first plate gets delivered, as it takes time for the chefs to prepare the rolls. We indulged in Spider, Alaskan, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Lobster, Godzilla, Eel Avocado, Pacific Ocean, Green River, U-2, and Ty Ku Rolls. Our favorites were the Green River and Godzilla. If we are looking to enjoy sushi, we always go to Kyoto for a great price and great quality sushi. read more

My partner and I were looking for a low key, relaxed, fair priced, closed to home sushi restaurant when we came across Kyoto. I got to say, I was extremely impressed with my experience at this restaurant! The first words I shared with my partner as I walked in were, "WOW, this is such a clean restaurant"! Presentation is one of the big factors when I'm eating a restaurant. The cleanliness and atmosphere of this strip mall restaurant was admirable. The service was outstanding and not overwhelming at all. The waiter took care of our order, prepared the tabled, gave us our space but continued to delivered outstanding customer service. Of course I had to tip higher than 20% for such a nice waiter. The food was great! We had the Ricky's Maki roll and Greenfield Maki roll (signature rolls) and the Philly rolls (tradition for us to order). Compared to other places outside of the downtown Milwaukee area, the quality of the fish was great and everything within the roll tasted fresh. Best philly rolls I've had in my life. We ventured out in one of the many snow storms of this winter to try Kyoto for the first time, and I'm glad we did! When I put it in google maps it said it was super busy and I panicked that we hadn't made a reservation. We quick called and made one for a half hour later with no issue and commenced our slippery journey there. Once we arrived to check in, our host informed us they didn't have a table ready despite it being our reservation time. Not sure if the reservation is just a loose hold or what the deal is, but they were able to seat us within five minutes of walking in. We were close to the bathroom, and no sooner than we put in our drink order, did a little boy run past our table and throw up right outside the bathroom door. Poor little guy probably didn't want to be charged the $1 per roll left on your plate for the all you can eat sushi for $25. We were getting a little grossed out at the thought of eating while the puke was sitting there, but the server rushed over and told us they had a different table ready far away. That was awesome and a punctual remedy. Once we dug into the menu further, we knew we wouldn't have any issues finding rolls to order. Normally when I hear all you can eat sushi, I think of the trash cheap rolls being offered. This is NOT the case here. They had many, many amazing rolls to choose from. I think we ended up ordering like 12+ rolls between our table of four, as well as gyoza, crag rangoon, and miso soup. I really loved that those were included in the price as well. Our server was great, she was happy to assist with roll recommendations when we were stumbling to try new ones. We rolled out of there full and satisfied! Went 3/23/2023 called to ask if reservations were needed they said yes. Arrived and didn't even ask my name. Sat down and waited a minimum 10 minutes after both menus were closed and just laying there for a waitress to come over to ask about drinks. That was rushed but the place was pretty packed for a Thursday and I seen that they had 4 guys making sushi at the bar so I assumed this place gets busy during the week, which is a good sign of their food quality and it was. Ordered veggie tempura and lobster egg rolls for appetizer. Waited about 20 minutes for those to arrive. Lobster rolls were good and tempura was good also. About 5 minutes later my fiancés main course came( shrimp & salmon teriyaki). I ordered the sushi maki combo which consisted of 3 rolls(spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and spicy crab) That combo takes about 5 minutes to make. Fiancés dinner came with soup and salad. They skipped that. So I'm still waiting for my entree and nothing. Waitress comes with the bill and of course I'm charged for it. I took it to go because the tempura, lobster rolls, and aggravation had me full already. They didn't even offer to make a new sushi order. The whole time my order was sitting on top of the sushi bar. Didn't even offer to make a new one !! I was already pissed. Sad part is the food was great. Salmon and shrimp was tasty. Rice was cooked well. I nibbled on the sushi when we got home and that was also great. They ended up putting my fiancés salad in her to go bag but no soup. Service was horrible to say the least. They gave me $16 credit for my sushi roll but I have to order off of their website or call it in. I ordered through doordash. It used to be really good, but it declined during the past year. The menu has variety and the dishes are ok, just not amazing as they used to be. It is a solid option for Asian food, but we stopped ordering a while ago. Maybe I will try again soon, see if the fried rice got better. read more

Hands down best sushi place in Wisconsin. If you want sushi GO HERE. Anything else off the menu honestly is below average, BUT THE SUSHI IS AMAZING. I tried some of their noodle dishes and the noodles are always dry and flavorless or too spicy. The rice meals with chicken are also way too dry. Literally the only thing that is worth getting off the menu are the sushi rolls. They need to do a better job with their entree dishes.
