I actually tried this restaurant about a month ago, so this review won't be crazy detailed. We had a reservation for a Friday at 6, but it was pretty easy to be seated that particular Friday. We chose to sit upstairs. I loved the vibe: dim lighting with anime pictures, and neon stle lighting here and there. We started with drinks which were twists on some familiar bevs. I was pretty happy with what I ordered, but I can't remember what it was besides being the seasonal drink. My husband is allergic to eggs, nuts, and sesame, but he was able to enjoy the curry without a problem. I believe he couldn't have the burger bun, and definitely no katsu. I had Katsu chicken, and it was soooooo good! I can't wait to go back for round 2.

This wouldn't be my first choice for food, but the wife wanted to go. Much to my surprise the food was great. The chicken and rice was a hit. The service was outstanding and fast. Very kind. The restaurant was nice. The decor is cool. Great artwork. There is several areas for seating. Both upstairs and down and if I'm not mistaken there is also patio seating. The menu items are plentiful and the food taste great!

We will have to make a date to come back to this location. The waitress was nice. Some water spilled at our table and I ended up cleaning it up. Also, instead of taking the cup that wasted, the waitress just filled that same cup, which I guess is okay. Another thing that was an issue was the waitress made a comment about my husband being there on another night seated with a woman. This could have ended with my husband taste testing the stairs! However, I was shown images from the Yelp event, and I would add, if you are going to mention something like that context should be given if known. Glow - the food taste fresh and the alcoholic drink tasted like they don't skimp on the alcohol portion Grow - I think that they need to redo their menu. Images of the food and specialty drinks would be really nice since this place has a fun ambiance. Grow - The bartender maybe should be trying to upsell customers on drinks that pair well with the food, if they are seated at the bar, they might as well try to sell them on a drink. I only say this because the owners, the waitress and the other server were working really hard, and at one point the bartender was on the phone, and I did not see anyone at the bar with drinks.

November 2025 Yelp Elite event at Cute Robot: I had a great time tonight! It was fun trying a new place, and it was my first time having a Japanese sweet potato dessert. The decor and murals inside the restaurant were awesome and well done. There was something to see on every wall! I loved my vegetarian bento box with buttered noodles (so delicious!), Japanese potato salad, and mushroom onigiri. The sweet potato dessert had a pretty purple color and tasted unique. I also had a chance to meet the owners, Janet and Mark--a nice couple who are passionate about their business and their food. I definitely look forward to going back and trying more items on the menu.

Was looking for a lunch spot on Friday afternoon, and Cute Robot was absolutely the right call. The space itself is clean and cozy with great seating options for parties of two. My dining partner and I shared one Spicy Tuna Onigiri and it was absolutely delicious. The tuna was quality, the rice was sticky, and every bite was delicious. For an entreé I opted for the Chicken Katsu, and it was delightful. The breading was thin and ultra-crispy, the Japanese pickles were the perfect salty-sweet accompaniment, and the slaw added some freshness and additional crunch. I would highly recommend the dish. My partner decided on the Shoyu Butter Noodles with chicken, and he polished off the bowl before I could even snag a bite! He gave it a glowing endorsement, noting that it was incredibly flavorful and savory without being too heavy. We also had Miso Soup (not pictured) and that was the best way to kick off the meal. Once again, deeply comforting and flavorful but not at all heavy. Our server was fantastic -- very friendly and attentive -- and our food arrived quickly. I'd highly recommend Cute Robot. I'm already looking forward to returning!

Cute Robot Japanese Kitchen may be my favorite Japanese spot in the city. First of all the restaurant is decorated super cutely, definitely paying homage to Japanese pop culture, anime, and manga. There wasn't a huge waiting period for walk ins and we were seated promptly. They also have the traditional Japnese dining tables where you sit on cushions which was super fun. I got the Japanese Curry with Rice and it was delectable. I also tried a piece of chicken katsu from my friend and it was absolutely delhomecoming. This place has nailed the Japanese homecooking style with cozy, warm, and flavorful options. Highly, highly recommend this spot!

Easily one of my favorite restaurants in milwaukee. The food is fantastic. The owners are amazing. I've never been disappointed when coming here. And recently just learned they have a rewards program!

Love this place! Anything we've ever gotten here was delicious. I got the onigiri dinner and I did get full from the three onigiris and cucumber salad. The katsu was good as well. Our waitress was very nice and readily available when needed. I always love coming here!

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. I love the style, Japanese street food/comfort food. I was a little nervous when we first walked in as there is just a small bar area and a couple of tables, but they have an upstairs dining and bar area. There is cute Japanese decor and tables. Our waiter was helpful in providing any recommendations or answering any questions we had. We ordered an Ryukyu Old Fashioned and Sprite to drink and the Okonomiyaki to start. The Okonomiyaki was great, a pork pancake with onions, cabbage, mayo, and some other ingredients was really delicious! We had the Shoyu Butter Noodles and the Cute Robot Fish Fry that were both paired with miso soup. Really good! The potatoes that came with the fish fry were so good! The food was ready pretty quickly. We are excited to come back to try more of the menu!

Cutest hidden gem in Milwaukee! We popped in for a quick snack and were blown away! The Okonomiyaki and Agedashi Tofu were crispy, savory, and full of flavor....can't wait to come back for the mains. The vibe? ADORABLE. Every corner has a fun detail, the patio is gorgeous, and there's an amazing cocktail bar upstairs that feels like a secret lounge. Total 10/10. Go now before everyone finds out!

Before my friends arrive for dinner, the staff at cute robot Japanese kitchen made me welcome and at home. The service was phenomenal and the food was better. Highly recommend the egg salad on milk bread & the katsu curry!

Really great delicious Japanese food. This place is pretty cool to come in and have a nice chill place to sit and put my chop sticks skills to the test. They have spoons and forks for those like me who can't use them as good. The upper floor has a full bar with a lot of international options. Unfortunately I requested drinks they were out of but I'll try it again next time. The presentation on the plates are nice and pleasant to the eye.

Highlights/Lowlights 1) Friendly Service, but a bit slow 2) Delicious Food 3) Nice Ambiance Stopped in with a few friends on a Thursday night around 8pm (they close at 9!). We were the only group in the restaurant and were immediately greeted by a friendly server. She took our drink orders right away but it was about 15 minutes before they came back with drinks. They have beer, wine, cocktails on a separate, hand written menu. The menu has a ton of variety! Admittedly, I haven't eaten a lot of Japanese food that isn't sushi so our group decided to try a bunch of items off the menu. Everything we had was really tasty and flavorful! We ordered about 5 different things and barely scratched the service with the menu. The ambiance is cafe style and has cool decor! I will for sure be back to try some of the other items!

Yes, I know these are Karaage but they are very similar. I usually get the boneless wings just because I am weird and do not like having sticky fingers when I am eating, so these I can eat with a fork. The crispiness is always spot-on and I love that they give you just enough sauce to give everything a good coat and flavor but not too much that the chicken is drowning. I also really love the rice cakes that they add into the tenders and wings, it's like a nice little chewy treat to go with everything. Their fries are a LOT of fries! My wife and I have learned we can share one order of them. They have a bunch of varieties of seasonings you can add to the fries but I tend to get mine plain and just eat it with ketchup. I love coming here and their little outdoor patio is great when I want to bring my pup or just enjoy the nice fresh air as we eat our meal.
