I want to share something that seems overlooked. The included sides at Kyoto are something I greatly look forward to! It's common in Korean restaurants to have little sides included, but I LOVE the little assortments here! Today we had a Jellyfish salad for the first time, and I loved it! The flavor is very much like a seaweed salad with a delicate sesame dressing, very light pepper flakes, and soy, the texture was an unexpected crunchy, creamy, silky combo! I asked for more to take home with our leftovers. SO fun and delicious! read more

If you're looking for a kid friendly, clean and with amazing customer service this is the place to come!! The food was absolutely delicious!! The atmosphere is so comfortable, friendly and welcoming! They have a nice small water fountain and bridge at the entrance. Highly recommended! They offer ramen, sushi, nigiri, ect. They serve miso and other small sides. read more

Best sushi I've had south of Tacoma. I moved here 2 years ago and have been looking for a good sushi spot and I finally found it! We got the garlic Ebi nigiri, dinner beef bento, and wagyu lover roll. My husband loved the bento, I thought it was quite good too. Same with the Ebi. But that wagyu lover roll. Might be the best piece of sushi I've ever had, and not just because of the novelty of wagyu. But it was suuuper delicate, textural, and balanced. I will be coming back for it. I meant to take a picture, but got too excited Here are the small plates they served, haha I remembered those. The ambience is nice The staffs sweet. Looking for a family lunch date, also needed some amazing chicken katsu! First time, was not sure if but was hopeful;thanks to other reviews we have it a try. Plus thankfully it was close to where we shop for grocery specialties. Greeted quickly, the host was very polite and friendly. Brought us over water and straws. Waiter, friendly-answered questions. Made sure the child's food came out first and it was great! Always looking for a decent, yet delicious restaurant that does not hurt our stomach's or make us stick later. This restaurant did not disappoint, the fish was fresh, the rolls were soft and sturdy, the miso soup plus side dishes were all a wonderful treat while waiting for our meals to come. Each time a dish came it was more and more amazing. We ordered the Jasmine tea and the ginger peach tea. We did not see a sweetener but also did not ask for any. The water and ice taste clean, if you care about those things. Tables were clean, the restaurant did not have an any strange orders and the restrooms were clean and well maintained. The only exception to how excellent the service was: Two dishes were forgot, the shrimp and the cheesecake. Also the menu says plain cheesecake but when it came out there was chocolate sauce and cream on the side. Next time we come back, I will ask for no sauce and also the cheesecake is not homemade or made in house. I am only assuming because I make cheesecake from stretch and it time plus you it cost for quality cheese. Though two items were forgotten, all the staff were in between having their own lunch and all the staff made to sure someone was being attentive to the customers that were still dining. My heart and stomach was filled with happiness to see them all eating and sharing conversations of their day and general life. I appreciate everyone who works here and I am looking forward to sharing this wonderful experience with others! Tempura okay, too many choices with food and alcohol, too. Nothing to make my jaw drop. Just...okay! My friend said that the hi-ball was actually "kinda hitting", which surprised me because it tasted just like soda...no alcohol. Restaurant is very pretty inside with quite some space between tabling arrangements. Makes it easier for guests to move around and staff to make their rounds. I like that they have the private dining rooms where you get to kneel by the table. Reminded me of Japan with that setup. We had an amazing experience here last month. The food is really good and the restaurant was very nice inside. This is a kid friendly place. My kids really enjoyed seeing the Koi fishes. The food was delicious. They have a buy two and get one free for sushi which was nice. The waitress we had was so sweet she overheard that it was my daughter's birthday and surprised her with some mochi. Definitely will come back. read more

Very good quality sushi and sashimi. It's simple, but the maguro is some of the best I've had. Reasonably priced. The complimentary appetizers are a nice touch. Great staff, Jung is wonderful. My wife's kitchen entire was decent but nothing special, and the drinks are way too expensive. House sake is $10 for the small, and it's the cheapest drink on the menu. read more

I wanted to like them. Super cute resto with a bridge and koi and private tatami rooms for larger parties. Service was slow in a half empty restaurant. 10 min before we had menus or water. While we ordered, we requested a fork for our young dining companion and when they brought out his food, we asked again. I asked after waiting 5 mins again. She said she was bringing it... but didn't. I asked at the counter. And waited and then at the sushi counter... I had to get the owner involved to just get a fork. It was then brought out with the other dishes. The kid had cold food now. The owner and wait staff then became overly friendly and touched and hugged me, like I was her friend... not ok... The food was not great. Sushi rice was sour, not seasoned appropriately. Katsu was good and the teriyaki was bulgogi with Will probably not go again. A first time customer to this restaurant and kind of had a bad experience. We walked in right when the restaurant opened. Got seated promptly since nobody else was there for lunch. The server was friendly in taking us to our table and giving us the menus. Once we ordered our Sushi and a meal from the Children's menu, we waited about 10-15 minutes, which was fine. However, when we received the Kid's Chicken Teriyaki meal, there was a small piece of metallic steel type of thing in the middle of the rice!!! We couldn't believe it! Notified one of the other workers there and they both apologize, eventually, giving us just a 10% discount. If we didn't see it, our 2-year old could have eaten it and dangerously gotten hurt! Someone was incompetent enough to NOT check the rice?! It was obviously sticking out since WE saw it right away! And why is that kind of thing in the rice in the first place?!? Totally unacceptable!!! The other food items tasted alright. We probably won't go back due to the bad first dining experience we had.... At least we gave it a shot for a one time visit. She told us that they can add spicy to our dishes but that there is no scale of how hot you can order. Dad had the vegetable stir-fry, and it came with beef, pork and shrimp! Mom had Mongolian beef spicy and I ordered the lunch special of General Tao chicken. The dishes for mom and I both came with rice and salad and everything tasted very good. Normally, when I order General Tao' chicken, I get soggy nuggets of chicken however, this place does it right. A nice crispy batter that holds together after being tossed in the sauce. I feel like they could add a bit more dressing to their salads but overall, we were all happy with our meals and we all agreed that we'd like to return again to try other offerings from the menu. The restaurant overall is clean and comfortable with a great, relaxing ambiance. This place is proving to be a hidden gem to folks like us who wrote them off back in the day. We're glad we went back. Excellent service, food, and pricing - considering the quality of the restaurant and the food. Location: Easy access from I-5. Take 72nd and head south on S. Tac. Way or from the south we skipped the freeway from Steele/Hosmer, west on 96th and North on S. Tac. Way. Ample parking available as it is located in the same complex as Shin Shin on S.Tac.Way and Steillacoom Blvd. You could have lunch while you car is being serviced across the lot. PRICE: If you think this place cost to much, then maybe it's not the place for you. I don't roll in the dough either. Considering we're in Lakewood, I guess you aren't expecting to average $15 per plate. However, consider the excellent interior decor, the great service, and most importantly the authentic food - I'm surprised I can afford to eat there at all! I was very happy with the price. Kyoto is a hidden away in a retail shopping center. But once inside, you're swept away to what feels like a quaint Japanese village, complete with koi fish for that obvious "authentic" touch. The ambiance is really what you're paying for. The cozy, warm decor makes up for what the food lacks. The menu offers a decent selection of bento boxes and sushi, but my beef bento was more "snack-sized" than I'd hoped, especially for the price. The food? Just fine. Nothing extraordinary, but you won't leave disappointed. The real highlight is the service, with the server checking on us often enough to make us feel wanted. I ordered the chicken kaarage appetizer, the pork katsu bento box, and the green tea cheesecake, and the portions were generous, the food was amazingly delicious, and the presentation was great! While I'm not usually a green tea fan, the green tea cheesecake was to die for. The server was extremely kind and gave us some delicious canapes including fried sweet potato chunks in a sweet glaze, seaweed salad, sliced octopus, mini shrimp with cucumber, pickled daikon, and edamame. I spent my 22nd birthday at Kyoto in the private rooms and had an absolutely lovely time! The food was so yummy, with generous proportions might I add. Particularly I did want to shout out our server Hannah! She was very sweet and helpful. When a portion of our party arrived particularly early she sat them and provided miso soup despite our own personal schedules being off. It was a very busy night but I still felt very catered to, and that was all thanks to Hannah's service! You will defs be seeing us again very soon. We were in the area for a football game near by, so, we looked on Yelp for a place to eat and found Kyoto. The reviews were good and we were super hungry, so, we were so glad it did not disappoint. My husband had Nabeyaki Udon, the kids had Gyoza and I had Katsu Chicken. Everything was very good! Definitely worth coming back. They also have separate rooms with traditional seating on the floor. Stepping into the restaurant, you are greeted with a koi pond with the soothing sound of water falling. I ordered the Omakase Sashimi Platter and this is probably one of the best sashimi platters I've gotten at a restaurant! The slices are much larger than what I've received from other places.
