    Spicy chicken teriyaki

Sujin was super friendly over the phone and when I picked up my order. Greeted me with a huge smile on her face right when I walked in the door. It was ready within 10 min. Good portions. The orange chicken was our favorite. It had the traditional orange chicken taste with a tang of natural orange that wasn't overbearing. The spicy chicken teriyaki was a bit too sweet and not enough spice. But overall was a great experience and we will be back to try other dishes.

Newark business in town. Great menu options and nice service staff. One roll and an appetizer was enough to feed two of us with leftovers. Portions are, prices price prices fair. Location is clean. Definitely recommended!

Big Boi is a gem!!! We found it because we were craving teriyaki one day. Although there are a number of teriyaki spots in Federal Way, we come out to Big Boi because it's my boyfriend's favorite spot. The staff are very friendly. The restaurant is clean and spacious with cute decor. The portions are HUGE and their teriyaki chicken is textbook perfection. I've also tried their spicy tuna roll combo and was surprised at how delicious their salmon and tuna nigiri is. They provide generous cuts of fish. The salmon has excellent flavor. I'm picky about tuna because I can detect the fishiness at a lot of places. I was very impressed with how fresh the nigiri is at Big Boi. I've also recently tried the salmon poke bowl. Even though I ordered take out, the presentation was beautiful and it's been my favorite entree so far. Highly recommend checking out this new spot and we will definitely be back!

I ordered the Mariners roll and crab Rangoon, both were really good. I'm definitely gonna come back and try out different menu items.

(FYI, for weekends and holidays, you'll be charged the dinner price all day). Since it was our first time, our server kindly explained how the ordering system works. You place your sushi orders through one phone with a limit of 15 items every 15 minutes. Drinks and refills are recommended to be ordered directly through your server so they don't take up item slots. Even if you order less than 15 items, you still wait the 15 minutes before placing another round. It sounds a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple! One of the cutest parts of the experience was having our food delivered by a little robot server with a cat face. Just make sure to grab the food from the section glowing blue so you don't accidentally take another table's order. Super fun and honestly memorable! By the time we were getting full, my family joked that the cat face looked menacing, because we were hoping no more food would be brought to our table lol. The orders don't all arrive at the same time and some can be delayed, so I'd suggest somewhat trying to keep track of your orders if you don't want to go overboard. The sashimi was delicious and the portions are HUGE, so definitely pace yourself because they do charge for leftovers. My son got a little too excited and overordered, so we ended up paying the leftover fee. However, I was genuinely impressed that Sumo Sushi actually allows you to take leftovers home, even with the fee included. I mean, you'll have to pay the fee either way, but I've never been to an AYCE sushi restaurant that allowed leftovers as takeout before. I really respect how serious they are about reducing food waste. They also have a small buffet section you can grab already prepared/cooked food from while waiting for your sushi orders. My absolute favorites were the miso soup, seafood boil(?), and the tempura fish that lives rent free in my head (I should have asked if I could order that fish for takeout!). They also had other hot foods, meats, and seafood options that were tasty. The dessert section was more basic (flan, jello, fortune cookies, etc.), so I skipped dessert this time (besides the fortune cookies hehe). The service, in general, was fantastic. While we were dining, a child nearby celebrated a birthday with their family and the staff went ALL OUT singing happy birthday with light-up decorations and so much energy. It was adorable and way more effort than most restaurants put in. My only small critique is that the "French Fries" listed on the menu are actually sweet potato fries. They tasted good, and I normally like sweet potatoes, but it definitely caught us off guard because it wasn't what we expected. When we left, the staff kindly said goodbye to us, including an older gentleman near the door who consistently seemed focused on customer service and even asked if we wanted condiments packed with our leftovers. We had such a lovely experience and I would consider Sumo Sushi as probably one of the better AYCE sushi spots in the area. We'll definitely be back!

I wish my service was better, but I got the service i paid for which was zero. They still brought my food out, but lowkey its not all my fault I didn't tip. They make you pay in advanced and for somereason I just expected they would bring it out togo. I dont really tip unless im being served and waited and and etc... so yes I was served the food, but wasnt exactly waited on or check on. With that said the food was above ok. Nothing wrong with cheap and good, unless the ingredients make your tummy hurt. Lol. Luckily it was not cheap quality like corner store ramen or anything. My broth was pretty quality also, but could habe used a slight bit more flavor in my opinion. It was a creamy broth and most places keep it clean so its normal that I want more flavor from creamy broth. Lucky for me their spice is actually spicy.

The nachos also had good toppings and fish, but the chips were stale.

I had high…read moreexpectations, but since I wasn't particularly hungry, I sat down with a casual mindset, just planning to have a light meal. After finishing, my biggest takeaway was: how has this place managed to stay open for so long? Environment: The place is clean, and both the sushi counter and the freshness of the ingredients are evident to the eye. The chefs' uniforms are also very neat. Taste: Sorry, it's hard to put into words! I ordered the lunch combo. The server asked how I wanted my beef done, and I said medium rare would be fine. But the beef was really tough! The tempura was okay. My friend had the pork cutlet rice bowl--the cutlet wasn't crispy, and the sauce was poured directly on top instead of being served on the side as we requested. So neither of us finished our food and we left. Fun fact: Tempura, though it's deep-fried, actually has the second-lowest calorie count among all Japanese dishes. So what's the lowest? Sorry, I forgot. A long time ago, Japan was considered the end of the continent, so many things that made their way there were seen as reaching the ultimate destination. As a result, the Japanese would thoroughly study everything that came--whether it was swords, food, tea ceremony, etc.--which eventually gave rise to what we now call craftsmanship or the spirit of mastery.

I'm obsessed with this restaurant. I've been for dinner and lunch. It's hard to find FRESH sushi…read morearound Tacoma but this place delivers. You'll often see the owner, Jose, making the sushi orders himself. He was trained by a Japanese sushi chef who in turn was trained in Japan. The ingredients are very clean and the portions are a good value. The sashimi slices are thick! The scallops are velvet in your mouth. The tempura is cooked perfectly. The sushi roll selections are unique and not like other places that just offer the same flavor. Have you ever ordered a couple rolls and they're basically the same? That won't happen here. Service was fast during the lunch rush. Server was friendly. No complaints. The restaurant is clean and the building it's in has a lot of character and history being in DT. Con: One thing I will ding them on is their Tonkatsu. I've had the Tonkatsu plate and the Donburi. Both times they were overcooked and dry. Come for the sushi!

The place was very busy even at 9 pm but we found a lot of treats in the market and then headed over to the deli to order 3 pastries but the line was very long and we could not even see where to line up at the counter but noticed some others ordering from a kiosk so my son and I both ordered and paid on the kiosk and waited for our number to be called. There seemed to be no sense of order or numbers being called so we were confused after waiting 10 min. just for pastries to be taken out of the window and handed to us. But it was quite busy so we waited patiently. 15 minutes goes by and still no numbers being called so we were confused and noticed that others were standing in a line to one of the registers so I decided to just wait in line even though I waited in line already to use the kiosk and ordered & paid already. I waited about 6-7 min. in line and when we got up to the front I told the cashier that I was sorry, we did not know we had to order at the register but that we ordered and paid at the kiosk and gave her my number and my son's and she picked up our order receipts on her side of the counter and looked at them and told me that someone would help us in a few minutes and set the receipts down and took the next customer, so we assumed someone was going to work on our order. So we moved over in front of the pastries again and waited. And waited. While the girl I had just spoken to was taking orders from others in line and making and bagging/boxing their orders AS they ordered with her. Completely ignoring the fact that we had just waited in line again and had already paid for our orders and she chose to skip our order, not box them and took others orders after telling me that someone would be with us. She took several orders for about 15 more minutes and still no one helped us, so I went to stand in line again because now at this point it seemed purposeful and discriminatory as she took orders and fulfilled orders as soon as she took them and ignored us. We are not of European/Ukranian descent and did not speak the language but the customers she helped all did. So now, after being more than patient I was getting angry. We had been waiting for more than 40-45 minutes at this point. AFTER we had already ordered and PAID. I kept looking at her thinking she is going to pack our order but she kept working on others, but she made eye contact with me many times, knowing we were waiting. Finally when I was about to say something to another clerk she comes over and asks us if we wanted it packed together. Like we had not been made to wait for over 40 minutes till she acknowldged us. No apology, nothing. She packed our 3 pastries and we were not happy at all, especially after leaving a tip at the kiosk. I did not get her name but she was the only dark-haired/brunette behind the counter. The saving grace was the cashier at the front, a very friendly gentleman who saved our trip but not enough to want to come back to your market again. I understand being busy, I work in the food industry-but to have no direction, no sense of urgency, no customer service skills at all and to be made to feel like the bad service was purposeful, no thank you. We don't need to visit again. Which is sad because I love to learn about other cultures and enjoy their cuisine and the market was delightful and everything we purchased was delicious but we know when we are not welcome at an establishment so we will spend our money elsewhere. After posting this review I went and read how many others felt discriminated against as people of color(we are Asian), and see a theme here. If more than one customer has felt this way, obviously this is an issue that has not been addressed. Again, the cashier at the market was very friendly but your servers behind the cafe/deli counter need some training on customer service and discriminating practices. Such a shame for a business to allow this behavior to continue.
