Wife been craving some sushi and we landed to this place. The staff immediately I can say are super friendly and attentive. They are so helpful and friendly. The food was yummy. We ordered a bunch of things starting with garlic edamame and hamachi jalapeño which both had a lot of flavors. We are ordered the Midori-$28 which consist of chefs choice 6pcs of sashimi and 4pc nigiri. All was overall good. I ordered off the Teppanyaki menu and got NY steak at $25 they come in cubed size steak and 2 side. Huge portions on the sides. Parking is located in front of the building and around the area. Overall great food and service.

If you love sushi and teppanyaki, I def recommend trying this place! They're located in Fircrest and is close to TCC. Super friendly customer service! Our waitress checked on us a few times to make sure everything was good. We ordered the chicken + shrimp, filet mignon, and NY steak + chicken + shrimp teppanyaki. You get to pick two sides such as noodles/ rice/ fried rice/ salad/ mixed vegetables/ etc. We chose different sides so we could have variety to share. First off, the servings are huge!! None of us finished our meal and had to pack it to-go because there was so much leftover lol. I loved all the sauce that the teppanyaki came with. They had a sesame salad dressing that tasted amazing as well! The fried rice and noodles were both delicious and had a nice grilled/ wok smoke flavor to it. All teppanyaki dishes come with a small bowl of miso soup. I thought the NY steak was too chewy but that and filet mignon did have a nice grilled char flavor. The chicken was a little dry, mostly because it's white chicken meat. The shrimps were small but juicy and tender. The sushi was sooo good! There's so many rolls so it can be overwhelming to choose lol. We opt for Captain Hook roll. Hungry man roll, dumbo roll, and pikachu roll. My favorite is the Captain Hook which is a baked roll with salmon on top. Hungry man is a deep fried roll with crab mix. Dumbo roll has spicy tuna on top. Pikachu is also a deep fried roll but is a smaller portion than the rest of the rolls we ordered. They gave us a plate of ginger and wasabi in the cutest tiny teacup! We also got the shrimp tempura basket because it was part of their April's special menu. It's $2 off so it's about $7 for 5 shrimp tempura. I thought it tasted ok, but is a little expensive. Prices are kind of on the higher side. I think our teppanyaki dishes were between $25-$40 each and sushi rolls were $13-$17. Our total bill after tip was ~$240. I thought it was worth it tho because the portions were huge and everything was great.

food seems to be alright and I would definitely go back. Service was awesome and she came in to check us throughout dining. The place decor is a bit boring lol

Updating my review to 5 stars.. I love this place. the best chirashi staff is super nice, chefs are women mostly I think. The food is fuhressh. Smaller quaint spot but it hasn't been too busy the times I've gone. Great place for a group that has people who don't eat sushi cause they have lots of other options like teppanyaki!

IG came in clutch last night with dinner recommendations. My friend and I went right after to work and we definitely over ordered but it was well worth it! Signs on door mention that not all items are available but there is still an extensive selections of appetizers, rolls, soups and rice bowls to choose from. And our waitress was kind enough to take off the items that were unavailable. Ambiance: This is an intimate and cozy restaurant. We loved the atmosphere. This was the perfect place to chill and catch up. Service: 10/10 best service we had. Ps this is a family owned restaurant. The two sisters were kind and gave us wonderful recommendations. And suggested a speciality roll that was on sale. I think it was the Cherry Blossom sale. It was so cute. Food: my pictures were lackluster last evening because I was in a hurry to eat and sample everything. The rolls were delicious, I could taste the freshness. And I appreciate when rolls are not smothered in sauce. The highlight of the meal was the 5 Layer Dip with wonton chips. The Tempera Don was so deliciously crunchy with all fresh veggies.

I live in TX now and I think about this sushi all the time. I only get to come back to WA every now and then but when I do this is one of my first stops. The service was great, staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was relaxing, and clean. My favorite is there funky monkey drink, I crave that drink.

I wish I could do a 4 1/2 star because I like these kinds of places if done well. Host: good - they sat me pretty fast because place half full. Good service overall. Ordering: excellent menu, but if you are going to serve Japanese food, you should stay in that theme, but miso soup is not on the menu. (STRANGE). She actually explained why they don't have moso, but I will let you hear it from her when you visit. Food: ordered Charashi bowl, and it was excellent. Price: Everything in the PNW is over-price, Good experience overall, but not having a sushi bar to sit for couples and single people will keep them from truly growing or making the true profits that most japanese restaurants make in Seattle.

Not sure how well known this place is but it's never busy when I go in. It's like it's University Place's best kept secrets. I've eaten a lot of sushi around here and this one by far, takes the cake. Hands down, no competition. Sushi is very fresh, inventive, flavorful and massive menu options. It's the perfect spot for sushi lovers going with non sushi lovers. They have other options like steak, chicken, udon soup, fried rice, lots of stuff! My favorite is the Nana roll. It is on the expensive side but totally worth it. I can't count how many times I've come back now in the last month. Plan on going back for their lunch specials. Even if it's a table for 1! Adorable inside and mom and her daughters cooking and serving. Very much the family vibe with high and food

5 out of 5 AYCE for sure! First time visiting Sumo Sushi & Grill last weekend with my family and we…read morehad such a great experience! (FYI, for weekends and holidays, you'll be charged the dinner price all day). Since it was our first time, our server kindly explained how the ordering system works. You place your sushi orders through one phone with a limit of 15 items every 15 minutes. Drinks and refills are recommended to be ordered directly through your server so they don't take up item slots. Even if you order less than 15 items, you still wait the 15 minutes before placing another round. It sounds a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple! One of the cutest parts of the experience was having our food delivered by a little robot server with a cat face. Just make sure to grab the food from the section glowing blue so you don't accidentally take another table's order. Super fun and honestly memorable! By the time we were getting full, my family joked that the cat face looked menacing, because we were hoping no more food would be brought to our table lol. The orders don't all arrive at the same time and some can be delayed, so I'd suggest somewhat trying to keep track of your orders if you don't want to go overboard. The sashimi was delicious and the portions are HUGE, so definitely pace yourself because they do charge for leftovers. My son got a little too excited and overordered, so we ended up paying the leftover fee. However, I was genuinely impressed that Sumo Sushi actually allows you to take leftovers home, even with the fee included. I mean, you'll have to pay the fee either way, but I've never been to an AYCE sushi restaurant that allowed leftovers as takeout before. I really respect how serious they are about reducing food waste. They also have a small buffet section you can grab already prepared/cooked food from while waiting for your sushi orders. My absolute favorites were the miso soup, seafood boil(?), and the tempura fish that lives rent free in my head (I should have asked if I could order that fish for takeout!). They also had other hot foods, meats, and seafood options that were tasty. The dessert section was more basic (flan, jello, fortune cookies, etc.), so I skipped dessert this time (besides the fortune cookies hehe). The service, in general, was fantastic. While we were dining, a child nearby celebrated a birthday with their family and the staff went ALL OUT singing happy birthday with light-up decorations and so much energy. It was adorable and way more effort than most restaurants put in. My only small critique is that the "French Fries" listed on the menu are actually sweet potato fries. They tasted good, and I normally like sweet potatoes, but it definitely caught us off guard because it wasn't what we expected. When we left, the staff kindly said goodbye to us, including an older gentleman near the door who consistently seemed focused on customer service and even asked if we wanted condiments packed with our leftovers. We had such a lovely experience and I would consider Sumo Sushi as probably one of the better AYCE sushi spots in the area. We'll definitely be back!

Below average. In…read morefact, if I had visited the Sumo AYCE in Tacoma before I tried the one in Burlington, I doubt I would have ever walked into Burlington's Sumo. It was Father's Day, so of course it was busy. But the food was subpar, it came out in indefinable intervals, and we weren't really checked on at all. The sushi - when it finally showed up - was good, but the grilled beef was fatty and greasy. The Chicken 'Katsu' was soggy. Some items - despite taking what seemed like forever to arrive - felt and tasted like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Horrible experience for $100. We won't be back.
