Came in on a Friday around 4pm for an early dinner. The restaurant wasn't busy, just one person finishing up - but it did take a while before we were acknowledged or seated. Once we sat down though, the staff was attentive. I really liked the little suggestion sheet they give you based on what fish or protein you enjoy, perfect since they have a large selection. The ambiance was calm and relaxing. Our rolls and appetizer came out quickly and everything was delicious and high quality. Prices are on the higher side, but it's a smaller shop and the quality makes up for it. I'd come back for the quality alone. I remember seeing a video on Instagram about this place because it has fun nerdy themed rolls and cocktails from anime, video games, and movies which is always a must visit for me. My boyfriend and I was in the area so we decided to stop by and saw they even had lunch specials. We arrived and there were a few tables as well as a few customers waiting for a take out order. We waited to be seated and it didn't take long before our waitress led us to a table near the window. We were given three different menus composing of their regular menu, lunch menu and a fun guide to help sushi lovers/non-lovers to find a roll that best suits them. They offer quite a bit of variety for people who enjoy sushi, who prefer non-sushi items and even a fun non-alcoholic drinks menu for those who enjoy coffee, fruity drinks or sodas. The decor in here is very minimal and doesn't really fit the vibes that they seem to be going for, as they have beautiful piano music playing the background and it feels like they are trying to go for a more upscale experience from their presentation, food offerings and prices. They do also have infused orange water too, so I feel they should do more with their decor to truly elevate the experience here. Our waitress was very professional and efficient, she came to check on us when appropriate and served other tables with the same professionalism and smile. I got the Mermaid Princess which was beautifully and tastefully crafted! Themed drinks and food can be tricky if it's just randomly thrown together but you can tell there was a creative and thoughtful mind behind this creation. For food, I got their NY steak yakimono with my choice sides being the miso soup and white rice, while my boyfriend got the Double Bubble choosing the Philadelphia roll and shrimp tempura roll. We got an order of their shrimp tempura basket later too and it arrived pretty quickly. I asked for my NY steak to be cooked medium rare and they executed it perfectly as it was tender and juicy. The miso soup was good but disappointing as it was just the broth, no seaweed, tofu or green onions to make it more memorable. They do also give much more rice than necessary compared to the meat ratio. My boyfriend's rolls were hearty as other places have smaller rolls but the cuts of ingredients and amount of rice was definitely more generous than other sushi restaurants. It was a Sunday which was super nice cause their menu is expansive so if you have any questions they have the time to answer and not feel rushed. Great food. We first ordered 3 rolls and it took 10 minutes which was fine. We then ordered another 3 rolls which took 35 minutes to get to us. This restaurant also focuses more on carry out orders than sitting orders. We also ordered another two drinks that never came and then they tried to charge us for it. By far the best teppanyaki/hibachi we have had in the area. We came in for our anniversary- prices are reasonable even with the upcharge for fried rice or noodles. The servings were large. The salad was super fresh and had a great light dressing. We got the melon soda shake and it was so fun. Also got the house flavored lemonades. We didn't have to wait long- just for a table to be cleaned. The staff were really sweet and I can definitely see us going back and there are so many interesting options on the menu. We ordered a bunch of things starting with garlic edamame and hamachi jalapeño which both had a lot of flavors. If you love sushi and teppanyaki, I def recommend trying this place! They're located in Fircrest and is close to TCC. Super friendly customer service! Our waitress checked on us a few times to make sure everything was good. We ordered the chicken + shrimp, filet mignon, and NY steak + chicken + shrimp teppanyaki. You get to pick two sides such as noodles/ rice/ fried rice/ salad/ mixed vegetables/ etc. We chose different sides so we could have variety to share. First off, the servings are huge!! None of us finished our meal and had to pack it to-go because there was so much leftover lol. I loved all the sauce that the teppanyaki came with. They had a sesame salad dressing that tasted amazing as well! The fried rice and noodles were both delicious and had a nice grilled/ wok smoke flavor to it. All teppanyaki dishes come with a small bowl of miso soup. I thought the NY steak was too chewy but that and filet mignon did have a nice grilled char flavor. The chicken was a little dry, mostly because it's white chicken meat. The shrimps were small but juicy and tender. The sushi was sooo good! There's so many rolls so it can be overwhelming to choose lol. We opt for Captain Hook roll. Hungry man roll, dumbo roll, and pikachu roll. My favorite is the Captain Hook which is a baked roll with salmon on top. Hungry man is a deep fried roll with crab mix. Dumbo roll has spicy tuna on top. Pikachu is also a deep fried roll but is a smaller portion than the rest of the rolls we ordered. They gave us a plate of ginger and wasabi in the cutest tiny teacup! We also got the shrimp tempura basket because it was part of their April's special menu. It's $2 off so it's about $7 for 5 shrimp tempura. I thought it tasted ok, but is a little expensive. Prices are kind of on the higher side. I think our teppanyaki dishes were between $25-$40 each and sushi rolls were $13-$17. Our total bill after tip was ~$240. New local family owned business. Our server was one of the owners (didn't realize until we overheard him telling another table about the restaurant) and he was just such a delight. He was thoughtful in explaining the menu, as well as the different Sake they have available (in all price ranges). He was also very welcoming and funny. The service was also quick and efficient. And the food did not disappoint, they had such a variety of things in the menu, and I couldn't decide so I got a few things. I noticed driving by last week that the space formerly occupied by Shogun is now called Nari Sushi and Steak. I tried it out yesterday and I will return for other meals in the future. My daughter and I just stopped by for a light lunch. We shared a spider role and a lollipop roll, which was new to me. My daughter had hot tea and I tried the nonalcoholic mule. The sushi was nicely presented, and tasted very fresh. I'm not sure about the cucumber wrap instead of Nori but the sushi was a good combo. If you are in the Tacoma area and craving sushi, you should check this place out. They are brand new and took over the place that was here before (Shogun). Tacoma isn't really known for having high end, good quality sushi restaurants, but Tacoma does have a few (#iykyk) and I think this meets one of those few. I ordered the Jalepeno bomb and Natsu sushi combo. The jalepeno bomb was just okay, it was heavily drenched in sauce, which makes it an even heavier dish. So I would ask for light sauce if you order this appetizer. For the main, I ordered the natsu sushi combo, which is 24 pieces of sashimi (chef's choice). When they say combo, I thought it would come with a salad or miso soup, but I guess not-which is also a good thing since I was eating by myself and realized my eyes were bigger than my stomach when I ordered 24 pieces along with an appetizer. My sashimi included salmon, tuna, white tuna, seared tuna, hamachi, red snapper, and smoked salmon. They were very generous with the slicing of my fish (the slices were thick) and I think the chef gave me 2 extra slices of sashimi (thank you :D). The sushi was very fresh and cold to the mouth. I can't get over how pleasant this place is! While it was pretty quiet when I came in, I was so pleased with not only how kind and attentive the waitress was, but how great, absolutely delicious, the food was! They definitely don't skimp out on any part of the meal; the sushi roll I ordered (spicy sushi roll, can't remember the name) was so tasteful and plentiful, and the side order of fried rice I wanted was much more than enough leave me feeling full. The ambiance was so warm and inviting, and while small, there's plenty of seating to have many people in. Prices are absolutely fair for what the portions are, and I did not wait long at all for our food.
