I made the grave mistake of renting one of these vehicles that was supposedly new but in poor condition when I received it because there had been an Electrical fire. I suffered through the two weeks of having this car and migraines... If you're complaining and asking to speak to a manager and not hearing back from anyone except for via text they finally agreed to give me a $50 credit for future use. The car was picked up in absolutely perfect condition. I even did a walk around with the guy who picked it up. However there was no walk-through when they dropped off the car. Hmmm shady!!! Needless to say almost exactly a month later they informed me that they charge me $300 to fix a chip in the windshield. I called to speak to a manager and no one would call me back. Instead they sent some photos that very easily look like they're doctored or you can't even tell that there's anything wrong with it but regardless there is zero customer service. And when you asked to speak to a manager they tell you to email. I will continue leaving negative reviews until I get this $300 credited back and the owner or whoever in charge can stop being a coward and actually deal with customer service issues. Terrible customer service. Randomly charged me 500 dollars for scratches to a car I returned two weeks prior to being charged. I returned the car in the same condition I received it -- with no scratches! I tried sending an email and received no response. When I tried calling their customer service line, the agent hung up on me after telling me that they can't do anything and I need to wait for an email update. Absolutely disgusted. read more

so heard about this start up rental car company Kyte. that their supposed to be better then a traditional rental company like enterprise, budget, etc. so needed a car one day and decided to give them a shot. kyte's main selling point being that they deliver and pickup their car at your location instead of you coming to their office, which you can't do anyway as kyte doesn't have an brick and morter store but just bascially a warehouse with fleet of their cars. so was kyte better? the answer is not really. rental rate wise they are not cheaper. pretty similar to other rental companies. but while base rate is the same from others what makes kyte more expensive is something called a surfer fee to deliver and pickup your car. surfers are gig workers they use for their cars. basically think uber drivers who deliver your food. for my rental i got charged $11 for delivery and $11 for pickup. so with a one day base rental fee of $59 and the $22 surfer fee and $8 tax my total came to $89. which was about $10 more then lets say enterprise that i would have paid at $79. but then you could argue having a car delivered is worth it...well not really. once you set your time you have to meet to wait and meet the surfer at your contract times...so that means you have to wait and can't go anywhere. but if you have a change of plans and move the time they charge you a $25 change fee since they have to pay the surfer. while if you rented from a traditional rental agency you can pretty much go whenever after you book your car. another bad thing about the delivery and pickup is that surfers can be late due to traffic or if the surfer flakes. in my rental the surfer was late by 30mins. as for quality of their cars. its clean and good condition for rentals. and they also offer to refuel the car gas at regular market rate. which is good vs traditional rental companies that charge jacked up rates. some other items, to sign up they have to verify you. so that means uploading your pictures and driver license etc at their website so if you have qualms about those things kyte isn't for you. so overall, kyte isn't any better. just another rental company. i don't really see any convenience getting it delivered. i could argue i rather just even uber to a regular brick and motor rental company as the cost would be similar to a surfer fee and with ubering i can go whenever i want. read more

I reserved a rental car online in Nov. 2022 for Dec. 2022 with this online company. The drop-off and pick-up were convenient, yes! But, the ONLY SINGLE REASON why I rented this car was to go to the DMV in my neighborhood, as I needed to take a routine low-vision driving test to renew my expiring driving license. The DMV recommended renting a car for the driving test, as a LOT of people do so for that very purpose, according to them. The DMV's only REQUIREMENT is that the vehicle be insured in case of an accident. So, I accordingly rented the car online & paid the full amount & I included the rental car insurance. Important note: THERE WAS NO DISCLOSURE OR NOTES OF ANY KIND (when booking the reservation on the Company's website) stating that the optional added insurance would or will be voided in case of accident IF the rental is for a DMV driving test! Nothing is mentioned to that effect (IF that had been the case, then why would I have possibly rented the vehicle?!). So, I got the car delivered to me, a nice bright red Kia Forte, CA LP #XXXXXX; I then drove to the local DMV (total rental mileage was 12 R/T). BUT, once at the DMV, I was informed that under the L.A./CA DMV system records, & EVEN THOUGH I had paid extra to insure the vehicle, this car had absolutely ZERO proof of being insured in their DMV records. I was not allowed to take the test. I called the Co. & got placed on hold to then be told that the Co. was (quote:) "self-insured"; yet, the DMV said all other rental cars always show the insurance Co. & this car did not under its LP#. This car showed "INSURANCE UNKNOWN". So, in the DMV's eyes, the car is not insured, & I rented this vehicle for absolutely no reason. A complete waste of time & money. I of course now have to go back again to the DMV & test again with another car, etc. Kyte C/S told me there was nothing they could do & added that if the rental was for a DMV test, the insurance would be voided & not apply!! Yet, they had no problem taking my $100! & why would they rent vehicles showing no insurance on the DMV records?! I later called both Hertz & Enterprise rental cars Co., & they confirmed that anyone could rent a car with them for a DMV driving test, as long as insurance coverage was selected. This is unfair & false advertising! I wasted $100+ or so for 12 miles! I' m extremely dissatisfied! I believe a full refund should be granted. I filed this review here and on Google, and a complaint with the B.B.B. as well. What rental Co. rents out vehicles that are not insured in the eyes of the CA DMV?!! Good luck if you are in an accident (even if you added optional rental car insurance with them!!) & there were to be litigation! Be careful, folks! read more

Hey, people, the only reason you're not using KYTE must be because a) you don't know about this fab car-rental company or b) because they're not in your city...yet. Look, you book your reservation online, they bring you your car on the day, time & location you've specified, and for this elegant service they charge you nearly half of what you'll pay the known car-rental companies. So, duh...it's KYTE that's being clear and foresightful enough to bring the service, convenience and economy that have what you would want...if you thought it were possible. Thankfully, it is. I tried out Kyte for the first time for a recent trip to L.A. and had a great experience. I got a brand new car, and my rate was amazing. My friend rented from Enterprise and had a much lower-quality car and a much higher rate for a week than I did. She said she is using Kyte next time she rents a car. I had a good experience with the "surfers" who I picked up and dropped off from. I also had to make changes to my return date/time, and I was able to do it smoothly and easily. I am a fan and will use Kyte from now on when I rent a car. read more

We planned and booked a car weeks in advance only to have it cancelled the day before the trip. With no prior inquiries or warnings. They apparently couldn't verify the primary driver's identity and refunded the trip, but they had plenty of time to let us know so we could resolve the issue or find other accommodations. We kept trying to contact them via email and chat to confirm before knowing they were going to cancel, but no one would follow up. I guess the low rates were too good to be true. They don't deserve any stars. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. read more

Excellent first experience with Kyte. Comparing prices online, Kyte cost less than major brand competitors. Reserved online and dealt with everything via text (we are old and don't like downloading apps for things. Confirming ID via selfie was a new experience, but worked fine). Car was delivered on time with several status updates. Toward end of rental period, we extended by several days because our car was still in the shop--no problem, same rate for add'l days. Suddenly our car was ready so abruptly cancelled Kyte after 1 day--no cancel fee, they picked up the Kyte at noon and credited our card within minutes for remaining rental period we had booked. No surcharge per gallon to refill gas, either. From beginning to end, a surprisingly good experience, worth the small fee to drop off and pickup the rental car. This company has the worst customer service. I had a rental from 9/15/23 - 9/18/23. They took a $500.00 deposit. When the trip ended I received an email stating that the refund would be reflected on my account in 10 days. I still haven't received my refund/reversal and it's 10/10/23. I tried speaking with multiple representatives but the messaging system is flawed. It's almost like you aren't speaking to a real person. They tell you the same thing like the responses are automated. You also can't speak to anyone over the phone. The last rep I spoke with "Mary" which I don't even know if that's her name, was zero help at all and just told me to call my bank after I told her they don't have anything on their end. Just stick with the normal rental companies just in case you need to deal with customer service. This was the worst experience and they still have my $500.00. I'm obviously going to escalate this as much as possible since they don't seem to care. read more

in my opinion for the two rides i have taken, this is the best service out there especially in LA.

I had a scary pick up experience with Kyte and the customer service is terrible. They were over four hours late and the communication was so indirect, I thought someone was trying to steal the car. They told me to leave the keys in the car parked on the street, which I wouldn't do because the contract stated I was responsible for theft. When a rep (aka. "Surfer") finally did arrive, he interrupted me and then, after asked him to stop, he spoke over me until I raised my voice. The general manager (if that's even who finally sent me an email) has still not gotten back to me. They seem not to care that they stole my evening, and frightened me. With the exception of drop off, I was met with an arrogant and aggressive attitude throughout this company. They have work to do. read more

I booked a car for 1 week, completed the on-line driver verification process (uploaded my driver's license, etc), was confirmed as a verified driver. The car was to be delivered on Sunday. On Sat eve, I phoned Kyte to inquire about adding my husband as a verified driver. Was told then that my verification was not complete, that I would have to upload my passport because of my Canadian driver's license. I was not prepared to do this, was told if I didn't, the rental would be cancelled. If a passport was required, this information should have been shared with me at the time of booking - not as a 'by the way we need your passport' the nite before getting the car. I could have then made an informed decision as to what I would - and wouldn't - upload to a site that was unfamiliar to me. I refused to upload my passport & the booking was cancelled, leaving me to scramble on Sat night for a car that I needed the following day - which I ultimately got (without sharing my passport). Kyte needs to figure out its processes before they can be considered a reliable service by me. read more

This was by far the WORST experience of any company I have ever dealt with. I tried their service because I liked the idea of delivering and picking up the car for you. The car was delivered dirty FULL of animal hair and garbage any my husband could not drive nor use car because of this ( allergies ). The driver that dropped off the car said the tank was empty and I needed to fill it up. I went to 2 gas stations to try and fill car only to find out it would not accept any more gas because it was FULL!! The driver that dropped off car did not know how to read gauge nor did I because it was not my car so I took his lead. Kyte has NO instant live customer service. They expect you to email and text them. If you want a live person you have you have to wait 15-20 minutes. I asked them to resolve the dirty car issue and have an email thread with over 30 exchanges with 5 different people only to not have the issue addressed or resolved at all. And last but not least, the driver that picked up the car after a one week rental tried to charge me $100 for returning the car dirty!!! OMG!! this was my original complaint! STAY AWAY FAR AWAY NOT WORTH THE TROUBLE!! read more

This was my first experience using Kyte and it was great! I researched rates with the typical websites (Priceline, Hot Wire, etc.) for a rental car for 5 days from LAX. They were outrageous, especially with all the fees added on. I came across Kyte and at first, was skeptical. I did more research and they seemed reasonable so I took a chance on booking with them. So easy and quick plus I got a really lovely car, Audi. Pricing was transparent without a lot of added-on fees. The process was so easy too! I landed got into my Uber (they provide the vouchers) and 5 minutes later was at the lot to get my car. Super easy to return as well since you drive back to the lot and take an Uber back to the airport. This took 20 minutes total including a return back to the airport! I opted for them to refill the gas, which was very reasonable and didn't overcharge me. The "surfers" were super nice and helpful with both getting the car and returning it. I would highly recommend them! read more

when i initially found out about kyte, i was struck that something like this existed. the vehicle was clean, gas was full and it arrived on time. the vehicle was fully loaded and provided an amazing experience for me. the real experience - i was super late for my flight and had to keep postponing the pick up time. kyte was able to accommodate me and allowed me to drop off at a later time. while running late, i spoke to the general manager for the washington dc location, ansell and asked if he could drop me off at the airport, without hesitation, he said he would. this alone solidified the trust i have in kyte and hope to see them excel. will be using them again for the greater future. read more

Do not use this company! I was not able to get through the wally express gate where they said to leave my car, so almost missed my flight. The person at the gate had no idea who Kyte car rental is. Then because I spent 20 minutes outside the gate, I had to leave the car with whatever trash was left in vehicle and they charged a $150 car clean fee. They also charged me $70 for gas refueling and .45 per mile over the amount alotted per day. In the end, the car rental doubled in what was originally quoted. I will stick with traditional car rental services from now on. Lots of fees added with very little room for flexibility. read more

I read the bad reviews but decided to give them a chance anyway. Bad idea! The drop-off went smoothly, the car was nice and clean. The rental contract specified full was delivered at 8, which I assumed was 80% full because I saw the number 8 and not 10 (more later). The day before pick up, I stopped and got gas filling up to 90% (because I thought the car was delivered with 80%). The company was THREE HOURS late to pick up the car. Eventually, I couldn't wait anymore and contacted them. I was told to leave the key on the tire, which I did, even though that felt super sketchy. What if someone stole the car, and I was then on the hook? Later I receive a fuel charge for $21, because, apparently, the number 8 means a full tank of gas in Kyte's world? Wha? Ok, so my mistake...you'd think Kyte would wave the charge for the misunderstanding and the amount of waiting around I had to do? But no. Customer care is not on their agenda. They gave me Kyte credits. No thank you. So be aware if you rent from them and the Surfer (pick up person) doesn't show Kyte won't do a damn thing to compensate you for your trouble besides try and give you credit to rope you into renting from them again. Also, I do not suggest renting from them if you need to be somewhere on time. read more

Tried to rent a car from KYTE at LAX airport today. What a HORRIBLE experience. I went through all the steps it asked me to do (download app, allow all permissions to Kyte on my phone, verify my license and take 3 pictures of my face). there app sends you to a third party who wants pictures of your licenses and face. The problem is it would allow me to take pictures of my license, but then glitched when doing the facial pictures. I tried to get help via email. After 8 emails, I realized that the person or artificial intelligence corresponding with me, was not listening to what I was saying and kept telling me to do the same things my wife, my son, and I had already tried on all THREE of our phones. I finally found their contact number and called. I explain what was happening and she stated that I had to go through the third party app to verify myself and license or I would not be able to continue receive my rental car. I again explained that I did everything via email I was asked to do and could she assist. Again, she directed me to the website to follow the steps that we had already done dozens of times on our phones and laptops. WOW!!! they obviously don't care about customer service or just don't know how to solve issues that arise. I realized at that point that if I had this many problems with trying to rent a car, that this was a sign of issues to come. So I cancelled at this point and am now waiting to see what hoops I have to jump through to get my money back. read more

I would give Kyte 5 stars except that the delivery and pick up windows are not even remotely what you sign up for. First of all, this is a brilliant business model. I'm a single woman who can never figure out how to pick up a local rental car when I need one. Kyte delivers and picks up at your home. Genius. The price point right now in LA is almost exactly what you would pay for a traditional rental car (ie more expensive than usual). I compared the quoted price with my local Enterprise location and it was almost the same. I did pay slightly more because I used Kyte's insurance package. I wasn't sure if my credit card would cover this new service. The car was impeccable - clean, low mileage, exactly what I requested. Again, my only issue was delivery and pick up. I ordered the car for 11:30 am. It came at 2 pm. I booked pick up for 9:30 am and the pick up happened at 3 pm. Delivery was an issue because I was late for where I needed to be. For pick up, I was home so it was ok (but could have been a problem). Both people who picked up and delivered were lovely and made the process super streamlined. The guy who delivered apologized for the delay, which I appreciated. read more
