L.A. Burdick is a chain of 7 chocolate shops (mostly on the East Coast). It was started by Larry Burdick, who trained as a chocolatier in Switzerland before opening the first location of in New York in 1987. This location on Newbury Street opened in 2012, but the shops are designed to look like shops in Paris, and I would have believed you if you told me the shop had been there for 50 years. I visited this week when I was in Boston for a conference. I wanted one of their hot chocolates (something they're known for, the offer hot chocolate in dark, milk, white, and spicy dark varieties and hot or iced), but I had dinner coming up soon and didn't want to be full before my meal. Fortunately, they offer so much more than just their hot chocolate - bonbons, pastries, coffee, tea, and more. I picked up a box of their bonbons so I could enjoy them later (and not risk being full for the meal in Boston I was really looking forward to). They were beautiful and delicious. The shop is charming, and the customer service was good. If I lived in Boston, I'd be there way too often - especially in the fall and winter. I'd love to return for their hot chocolate next time!

The hot chocolate is out of this world. We also enjoyed the lemon kirsh (cherry) cake.

While visiting Boston, we had to go back to LA Birdick. They not only have great hot chocolate and pastries but tons of great homemade chocolate to take home too. The milk chocolate drinking chocolate is everything. It's so bold and velvety at the same time. We loved it. We also enjoyed the lemon cherry cake that had great flavor. It's a dangerous place with so many delicious things. When I go back to see my client, I'll definitely be back to try new things.

Yummmmmmm. This place is delicious and smells amazing. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because it's pretty pricey (though high-quality for what you get). I was recommended to try this place by two different people during my short trip to Boston. The gifts section is overwhelming in the best way (though my family isn't complaining about all I brought back, lol). Heads up if you get the drinking chocolate: it might get flagged at TSA for extra screening (since it's powder-ish). Not a huge deal, just keep it packed maybe at the top so it's easier to grab. I also got some drinking chocolate to have there, I chose the white chocolate. It was just a little cup and I still had a hard time finishing it (though I had just had a large lunch). The staff was also super friendly and helpful. There are a few small tables to sit at if you order something. I was able to find a seat but I can imagine it would get busy during peak times.

I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but I loved this place!!! They seriously have THE BEST chocolate drinks that I've ever tasted!!! Came here to get a hot chocolatey drink on a cold fall day before this place gets too busy for local folk in the winter season. I can definitely see why people wait in line in the cold for this though. This place is so cute on the inside, and it's filled with so much chocolate to purchase. The little shaped chocolates are so cute!!! I like that they have a little seating area as well. My partner and I both ordered a "mocha" type drink ... his with dark chocolate and mine with milk chocolate. These were seriously so heavenly, and I'm craving one right now just thinking about it. We also tried two desserts, which were well worth the price ... and the calories. This place is definitely a special occasion place. Not sure if I could afford this on a regular basis, but I'm so glad that I got to try it out. I definitely recommend this place ... even if you're not a chocolate lover. This place will definitely change your mind!!!

This charming chocolatier is cozy and packed with decadent chocolates and coco addicts searching for their fix. We loved the signature drinking chocolate and also had the Peru sourced version. I made sure to get the largest size, knowing my wife wouldn't be able drink all of hers, bonus for me! It was so good that I wished we lived closer. We savored it until it was gone. We also made sure to get a hand-selected box of chocolates to enjoy later and boy we did. I love to watch the employees and customers in places like this. The faces filled with comfort and happiness and they enjoys such treasures while they shared the experience with friends and family.

My husband and I were in the mood for some chocolates and popped in here to see what the hype was because from the outside looking in it was PACKED. Tells you a lot right there. When you walk in you're greeted with that delicious chocolate smell. There's two different lines, one for the pastries/drinks and one for just the chocolate bar. I got a milk hot chocolate (options being white, milk, or dark chocolate) and my husband got an herbal lemon tea. Both were PHENOMENAL. The chocolate coconut cake we got was a perfect combination because it wasn't too sweet so it paired nicely with my hot chocolate. Then we also bought some chocolates off the shelf which were also so good. I can see why this place was packed. 10/10

If you're ever visiting Boston, you must stop by and give this place a try. They specialize in chocolate and let me tell you, the hot chocolate is worth the hype. It's so creamy and the perfect sweetness. They also sell bags to take and make at home. It's truly a treat. The staff were knowledgeable and quick to get our order over to us. The small cafe setting is perfect to enjoy your drink and unwind.

Had a stranger than usual experience. We ordered a cappuccino and a spicy dark chocolate. Cappuccino was entirely burnt and the spicy dark chocolate was "grainy" tasting. We've normally always had a decent experience here so very unusual. Will try again in a while!

Expensive but so worth it. It's a half-café, half-chocolate shop, and the interior is all wood. Very vibey. I asked the clerk for pastry recommendations and she pointed me towards the Georgetown, which was phenomenal. I heard customers talking about how absolutely INSANE the hot chocolate is there, but I didn't try it. I'll definitely be returning on my next trip to Boston.

One of the best hot chocolate places in the town! The store offer various types of hot chocolate, my personal favorite is dark! If you can't handle dark, I would recommend starting with milk! The drink is little heavy - start with a small drink! They also offer various hot chocolate, and my friends love them! I usually grab a pack or two when I visit my friends! I highly recommend to buy a hot chocolate mix for the winter season.

Do not skip this chocolate shop if you are in Boston!! It's legit. I love that it's still in an original "house". Very cozy tucked in on a side street. If it's busy don't let that scare you away. Get a chocolate drink. We went in on a rainy day. So hot drinking chocolate it was. I will dream about this drink!! So many chocolates!! It was Easter when we were there- so beautiful.

Chai latte, Chocolate Raspberry Cake, chocolate pear mousse

Such a cute location for a meetup with a friend or a date! My bf and I stopped in for a quick sweet treat after a day out in Boston and I couldn't be happier. We at first thought this was a sit down type restaurant, as it turns out you order at the counter and pick a seat for your food to be brought to. The decor is so beautiful, there is wood furniture and a selection of chocolate at the front of the store. Everything came out quickly. We both got chai lattes which tasted so creamy. They make them with honey which makes them a very comforting drink, especially of its a bit chilly outside. We each tried a different pastry, a chocolate raspberry cake and a chocolate and pear mousse. The mousse was delicious with chunks of pear mixed in, this combination was new to me but very tasty! The cake was a little more dry but very good nonetheless. Raspberry and chocolate go great together. Overall I would definitely recommend stopping in if you've got a sweet tooth!

Great mocha and chocolate croissant, staff were very friendly, decor well done for Christmas with subtle Christmas lights and garland. The mocha gives you dark, milk, and white chocolate options! The accordion music and ambiance gave a strong Paris feel to the place. Very quaint coffee shop - Definitely recommend.

Oatmeal raisin is never the choice when chocolate chip is around, but Levain's oatmeal raisin is incredible. There are definitely less raisins now than there used to be, but I'm fine with it because I'm really only in it for the soft, cookie dough goodness anyway. The more it sat, the more I was able to taste it. And the mocha they use doesn't seem to be very chocolatey which I'm not a fan of. It's more on the bland side. Maybe it would be better iced but since it's cold outside I wanted something hot. The girl who took my order and made my latte was very nice and very kind. She had a really good vibe coming off her which I love. Five stars for her! So the mocha gets 3 stars, the girl who helped me gets five stars. I may get a cookie to go but haven't decided if I wanna spend $5.75 plus tax on a cookie. The mocha was $5.25 plus tax alone. And the cookies really aren't as big as people say they are. They do look good but I'm not sure if I wanna spend that much on a single cookie. Maybe I'll come back another day. Edit to say I did go back for a cookie. I got the dark chocolate peanut butter chip. The same girl helped me and this wonderful sweet girl gave me an extra cookie. Forget the five stars, she gets infinite stars. I hardly ever have people be that nice to me and she deserves all the recognition and thanks. Been in Boston for literally two hours and I'm already having the best day!!

The 4th floor has the children's/young adult books and I love how there are so many fun elements there, from the train that goes around the top by the ceiling, to the small red door that I think it just there for decoration?
