I was in the store yesterday around 4:30pm and their was an extremely racist and rude gentleman screaming at the staff and manager, just wanted to give kudos to the manager for handling it in the best way humanly possible. The wife was actively trying to drag her husband out of the store all while having a 2 or 3 year old child with them. What was even more embarassing is they called the police on the manager and if he wasn't black, they probably wouldn't have done that. Please defend that manager! I can see she wrote a review that is 100% not factual and that's just awful to lie about a person and business in that fashion. Another man in the store after they left went up and shook the managers hand and I wish I would've done the same. Yelp Review 2026 #216: Call me a snob but I don't like American chocolates. They're too sweet, doesn't give you a nice thick mouthfeel and they smell funky. I heard L.A. Burdick has high standards when making their chocolates by hand - similar to chocolatiers in Europe. So, I bookmarked this place and followed them on social media. I learned this location has ice cream as well. I was shopping and walking along Boylston/ Newbury. Had dinner at a restaurant in the area and wanted to grab some chocolates from L.A. Burdick after. The map app had us walking along some shady alley that stunk of hot garbage and piss which made me wonder if it's even worth it. I get to the shop and swarms of World Cup fans also had the same idea to come here. They have a counter for chocolates, a counter for ice cream, and a dining area. I just had a big dinner with dessert so, my plan of getting ice cream had to be ixnayed. They have truffles, bon bons, drinking chocolate (in white, milk and dark), whole cakes, cake slices, cookies, linzer torte, fruit tart, and macarons/ Luxembourger. I got a box of chocolates. Some truffles and animal-shaped chocolates because I know those are their specialty and proudly handcraft. They're good - comparable to European chocolates. They put your selections in a box and wrap it up nicely and put it in a bag. So, it takes time. Be patient. read more

LA Burdick is a chocolate shop on Newbury Street, known for their decadent hot chocolate and high quality dessert and gift collection. The line here is always long, but it moves relatively quickly. The ambiance here is family friendly. However, there's limited seating inside and you have to have seating before being able to order their hot chocolate in a mug. When you order, there's 2 sizes for hot chocolates and you can get either a white chocolate, milk chocolate, or dark chocolate hot chocolate. The large milk hot chocolate was so rich and a perfect balance of cream to chocolate, which made it an optimal size to share amongst 3 people. The sweetness, warmth and texture make it a nice sweet treat on a cold or rainy Boston day. The drinks were a bit expensive, but this hot chocolate falls in my top 3. L.A. Burdick is a chain of 7 chocolate shops (mostly on the East Coast). It was started by Larry Burdick, who trained as a chocolatier in Switzerland before opening the first location of in New York in 1987. This location on Newbury Street opened in 2012, but the shops are designed to look like shops in Paris, and I would have believed you if you told me the shop had been there for 50 years. I visited this week when I was in Boston for a conference. I wanted one of their hot chocolates (something they're known for, the offer hot chocolate in dark, milk, white, and spicy dark varieties and hot or iced), but I had dinner coming up soon and didn't want to be full before my meal. Fortunately, they offer so much more than just their hot chocolate - bonbons, pastries, coffee, tea, and more. I picked up a box of their bonbons so I could enjoy them later (and not risk being full for the meal in Boston I was really looking forward to). They were beautiful and delicious. The shop is charming, and the customer service was good. If I lived in Boston, I'd be there way too often - especially in the fall and winter. Yummmmmmm. This place is delicious and smells amazing. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because it's pretty pricey (though high-quality for what you get). I was recommended to try this place by two different people during my short trip to Boston. The gifts section is overwhelming in the best way (though my family isn't complaining about all I brought back, lol). Heads up if you get the drinking chocolate: it might get flagged at TSA for extra screening (since it's powder-ish). Not a huge deal, just keep it packed maybe at the top so it's easier to grab. I also got some drinking chocolate to have there, I chose the white chocolate. It was just a little cup and I still had a hard time finishing it (though I had just had a large lunch). This charming chocolatier is cozy and packed with decadent chocolates and coco addicts searching for their fix. We loved the signature drinking chocolate and also had the Peru sourced version. I made sure to get the largest size, knowing my wife wouldn't be able drink all of hers, bonus for me! It was so good that I wished we lived closer. We savored it until it was gone. My husband and I were in the mood for some chocolates and popped in here to see what the hype was because from the outside looking in it was PACKED. Tells you a lot right there. When you walk in you're greeted with that delicious chocolate smell. There's two different lines, one for the pastries/drinks and one for just the chocolate bar. Expensive but so worth it. It's a half-café, half-chocolate shop, and the interior is all wood. Very vibey. I asked the clerk for pastry recommendations and she pointed me towards the Georgetown, which was phenomenal. Such a cute location for a meetup with a friend or a date! My bf and I stopped in for a quick sweet treat after a day out in Boston and I couldn't be happier. We at first thought this was a sit down type restaurant, as it turns out you order at the counter and pick a seat for your food to be brought to. The decor is so beautiful, there is wood furniture and a selection of chocolate at the front of the store. Everything came out quickly. We both got chai lattes which tasted so creamy. They make them with honey which makes them a very comforting drink, especially of its a bit chilly outside. We each tried a different pastry, a chocolate raspberry cake and a chocolate and pear mousse. The mousse was delicious with chunks of pear mixed in, this combination was new to me but very tasty! We have been very very big fans of Burdick's for many years but unfortunately the manager and staff at this location were so inappropriate that we had to call the cops to sort it out. I wish and hope someone from corporate would contact me to discuss it. The name of the manager I got was Dimitri but I cannot be sure since he was physically using his body to push my husband, me and my 2 year old daughter out of "his" store. We waited a long time to get our drinks which they made incorrectly and threw our drinks the second time they made it for some reason, also threw our pastry as we were requesting them to just give us our drinks since we've waited for so long. He then proceeded to call my husband names and talking directly to my toddler about her dad. I'm deeply disappointed and hurt by this incident since Burdick was one of our favorites in Boston. read more

Burdicks has been my favorite hot chocolate place in Cambridge/ Boston area since I studied there in 1999... and on a recent trip I was on a mission to visit them again. I was so happy to learn they opened a location near Boston Commons and we headed there for dessert. One of my favorite things about Burdicks is that they have dark and milk hot chocolate and even white hot chocolate. Their dark one is just perfect! My first encounter with this whimsical chocolate shop was the Harvard Square location over a decade ago. A classmate gifted me a decadent, melty pavé glacé & started my lifelong obsession with L.A. Burdick. In-store you'll find a cafe where delicate pastries & hot chocolates are on offer, as well as a retail selection of chocolate pieces sold by the pound, pre-packaged chocolate assortments, chocolate bars, & their signature drinking chocolate (adorable tiny whisk included to help incorporate the shavings into a steamy mug of milk.) I came in on a classic cold December weekend and there was a good sized line. When I finally got in, it was quite packed and I knew it was going to be difficult to get a seat. I ended up only getting hot chocolate (the milk chocolate and Madagascar dark chocolate), but I knew there were a lot of other options that I could have grabbed. My palate is unsophisticated so I didn't enjoy the dark chocolate as much, but even then - the milk chocolate didn't seem as decadent as what I have had in the past. Don't get me wrong, it's quite good still but it just didn't meet the hype and the price point. "La Burdick: Famous for a Zuckerberg Date, But Not for the Hot Chocolate" We visited LA Burdick along Clarendon Street in Boston after a friend's recommendation. It's known as the spot where Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan had a date, which honestly seems to be its main claim to fame. The place was packed, mostly with tourists. We were lucky to grab one of the few available tables. The space looks more like a high-end bakery than a cozy café chocolates, pastries, and breads all beautifully displayed. We ordered: * Hot chocolate (signature item) * Mocha cake * Earl Grey cake (the one our friend raved about) The mocha cake was decent not too sweet, nice texture. The Earl Grey cake was underwhelming. I didn't get the hype. As for the hot chocolate too sweet and lost its consistency fast. It was okay if you drank it right away, but it didn't hold up. Overall, not bad but not memorable. I've had better chocolate and better café experiences in Boston. The celebrity anecdote may draw crowds, but it shouldn't be the only reason to come.
