I initially hired Gerber to tune-up all my existing pavers, add a new paver driveway, and add some new path lighting. Adding the new driveway was somewhat of a challenge as the adjacent paver sidewalks were initially constructed over 10 years ago. So, Gerber was able to find a great match to my existing pavers and masterfully piece the new driveway together in such a fashion where old and new appear seamless. Amazing!!! During the process, we learned that his team also offered landscaping. So as the hardscaping and lighting was coming to an end, his team met with us for a design consultation. Both Kathy and Katherine brought some great experience/knowledge to assess our current situation and offered wonderful ideas to the overall design. We loved what we heard and proceeded with the landscaping work immediately. In the end, we could not be happier! He took over an hour to measure everything and sent me the lumber quote he received so that I was fully informed, then we talked labor. He would point out problematic areas (like rotting framing) and would ask me if I wanted to have it replaced rather than just covering it up with the new surface. He did an amazing job that had my mom's tenants and the neighbors complementing the work and I felt the price was very reasonable. Based on that job, I brought him out to take a look at my townhouse to possibly replace the siding and he suggested sanding, priming and painting instead due to the price of replacement. They sanded almost every square inch of it, primed it (in some areas twice) with a peeling paint primer that is like glue to fill in gaps and keep the rest of the old paint from peeling, and then put a double coat over everything. When they finished, I was surprised to find that they had power washed our patio, porch, and front half-height fence and even painted the fence though we never talked about doing any of that work. They charged me $550 to install a new collar and seal it. Soon thereafter the leak continued to occur when it rained. I texted Darrin( the person from XL who did the estimate and the work) and told him the leak was not fixed. He indicated that he was out of town but he would get back to me upon return. When he did not, I called and texted numerous more times but got no return call. I finally had another company, American Professional Chimney & Masonry come out. They indicated that the problem was the chase cover which they replaced and that solved the problem. No more leak. XL does not respond or stand by their work even after incorrectly identifying the problem.

While i thought it was odd - both to require a 50% deposit and to zelle money to a company's owner, I did so, understanding that Bethesda Chimney has a good reputation. no one showed up for the inspection. i have now called at least 10 times and left three messages- no one has responded and no one has answered the phone. I will now be contacting the BBB and Montgomery County licensing board.
