Shrimp curry received vs. what is advertised in the app
Gretchen S.

I was looking forward to L&L opening up in Duluth as soon as I heard it was coming this year. This is the closest location to me currently, so I was excited. They seem to have quietly soft opened over this past week. I decided to place a mobile order for a late birthday meal. I completely understand that a brand new location of any restaurant chain will have lots of kinks to work out. That being said, I will list what I have noticed so far. Ordering on the app went fine. They don't take orders till 11am on the dot. I didn't go in to pickup the order, but I was told that the workers were friendly. Everything came out packaged nicely and with lots of condiments which was great. I'm glad this location has tartar sauce for the fried seafood items. I ordered a mini shrimp curry plate, kalua pork and cabbage with lau lau combo plate, and what was listed as "chicken katsu w/garlic" next to a picture of the garlic chicken plate in the app. The garlic chicken that I recently ordered from the Dacula location is in fact garlic chicken with more of a mochiko or flour base instead of panko. I was not sure ahead of time what I would be actually receiving here as it showed a picture of the garlic chicken but was listed as katsu with garlic (panko breading). It turns out that I did in fact receive katsu instead of the garlic chicken shown in the picture. This needs to be edited in the app somehow to avoid confusion as the picture is wrong but label is correct. I have never had chicken katsu with added garlic (much like the garlic shrimp plate where it's fried and added on). It was okay. The Dacula location had better katsu so far. This one was generously portioned but sliced too thin in parts and therefore overcooked in some areas. I think if they can make the actual garlic chicken dish it would be better. The added garlic here didn't do much. I agree with a previous review that the mac salad was in fact a little bland. The texture was fine but it needs a little more flavor and salt. It's creamy but no real taste of the seasonings. The rice batch I had came out fine and standard. The shrimp curry was sadly also disappointing. If you look at the picture from the app, it is once again not the same dish. We are being advertised shrimp curry (no breading) that has shrimp simmered in the curry with potatoes and carrots. However, we are being served the fried breaded shrimp with a little curry drizzled over it and no veggies beyond the cabbage bed. These are two different dishes entirely. I was looking forward to the actual shrimp curry with more sauce and simmered with the potatoes and carrots. It was not a horrible plate but it is not what is being advertised. Again, this correction needs to be made in the app. I was happy to see lau lau on the main menu and not hiding in a secret menu or on a word of mouth basis. It was decent. It was nice to have greens that I haven't had in so long as they are not easily accessible unless you know the release schedule from certain markets and get there immediately. There was a good amount of pork. I don't know if they are making it in house or receiving it premade from a distributor. If they are making it in house I would love to see more fat included for that rich buttery texture that so many love that melts in your mouth when cooked properly. The kalua pork had too much liquid smoke in it. It was a bit overwhelming. This has happened at some locations even in Hawaii, so I am not sure if it's just the company recipe or what. A little goes a long way. The location is super easy to get in and out of. There's lots of parking in the complex. I would go again after more of the kinks have been worked out. I mean no disrespect in my comments, just sharing what I think can be worked on and improved. I will definitely be back later in the year.

Half and half (katsu and bbq short ribs) $19.99. I will say maybe I had too much high hopes for this place. I've been to Onos and other L&L locations and just wanted to experience that. However this experience fell so short. The Mac salad tasted of just mac and mayonnaise but not even a good one. It lacked flavor and any type of seasoning. Parts of the short rib were dry. Katsu was fine. Service was friendly but food took forever to come out. They seemed a little disorganized and lost. The menu is misleading and there was an additional charge for a protein with no warning from the menu or the worker. I ordered the half and half and it said "Chicken Katsu with choice of BBQ Chicken, BBQ Beef, or BBQ Short Ribs" with no indication that it'll be more under the price or next to the protein. There's about 6 tables and some extra seating in the front. Decent size menu. The speaker/audio was playing what I assume was a man on YouTube talking about a lawn mower the entire time I was there. Interesting vibe.

I am so torn because I have had L & L before and this time was very disappointing because the first time I had it, it was amazing. I got the short ribs. Portions were not much and there was little to no seasoning or sauce. The macaroni salad was tasteless. Staff was friendly. Wait was okay.

The place itself is clean and has good enough music. But that's about where the positives end for me. The server just kind of stares you down when you walk and and doesn't say anything funnier than it was rude My problem is the food is not bad, but it was just prepared with absolutely no love at all. Cold rice, all 3 meats overcooked bad, not enough sauce on any of them... It was like Taco Bell Hawaiian BBQ. Would not come back

Chicken katsu

Went here recently and loved it! Excellent service and amazing quality food. I was so excited to try it as I saw it in Instagram and I ordered a chicken katsu plate with double Mac and rice. Everything was made to perfection and the ambiance of the shop was 10/10. My partner and I loved it and we will be back for more!

Food was ok, need to train people correctly for cooking food properly, should not have to tell people to fully cook chicken Katsu

Kuyas Food Express in Duluth City Farmers Market…read more I finally tried this Filipino food stall after seeing so many recommendations, and here's everything I ordered. Sizzling Sisig Comes with chopped pork, sour-style dressing, sunny side up egg, and rice. Best part is letting it sit longer on the hot plate so the pork gets slightly crispy and more flavorful. Adding extra lemon really enhances the taste. Only downside, the rice stayed too long on the plate and became a bit too hard to chew. Tokwa't Baboy Crispy pork with fried tofu in a sour soy-fish sauce. The pork was a bit fatty for my preference, but the crispy skin was really good. The fried tofu was the highlight, it soaked up the sauce and was super flavorful in every bite. Halo Halo Ube ice cream, flan, shaved ice, condensed milk, and mixed fruits like banana and sweet potato. Very refreshing and sweet. The flan was amazing, just wish the portion was bigger.

I ordered the pork skewers and they were absolutely amazing. Super flavorful, smoky, and tender. It was actually one of the best things I've had at the festival. I had never heard of them before, but I'm so glad I came across their stand. I'll definitely be visiting their restaurant soon to try the rest of their menu!

https://streetfoodfinder.com/Hapa.ATL…read more Absolutely love Hapa's as a food truck. Find them at feativals , farmer's market etc. For this mothers day we sought the truck but the were promised elsewhere. So went to Pele's pit to order a platter. Same owners with the same food. Not exaggerating when i say it is by far the best Hawaii themed food i have ever had. We got the chicken and pork belly with mango slaw and rice. Every bite was delicious. Capped it off with their desserts. Ube banana pudding with Oreos. Sooo good. Jeasica is amazing. Very personable. Felt like i was ordering food from my baby sister. Very caring and considerate.

Hubby selected the tofu bbq bun and it was very good. Not very spicy despite the $1 upcharge for the spicy sauce. I selected the salad rice bowl with gently just fried with a crunchy crust tofu. Hold the mayo for me. Good portion ! With the combo meals spring rolls and drink included. Spring rolls were hot and crunchy but basically empty. Would not order those again. Beverages were $3 ala carte which is a ripoff. So , bun and bowl were winners, just bring your own drinks .... Friendly patient staff, would be nice if hand sanitizer was present since they sell finger food....

The seafood is a 10/10!! This is a must try spot if you're in town…read more The crawfish is fresh and juicy! I will say the crawfish prices are most worth it especially when they have the $10/lbs deals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! Add ons for corn, potatoes, and sausages are reasonable prices and they do not skimp out ok the sauce! I've tried the cajun fries and the garlic noodle! The garlic noodles are okay they're more dry and have whole garlic in it instead of minced. But the fries remind me of steak and shake skinny fries! The service is great. Servers are attentive and make sure your water's always filled. The place is clean and there's a double sink outside the restrooms that make it easy and convenient to wash your hands. Overall I love this place and would choose it over any other seafood restaurants :D

However, I'm a biiiig fan of fried oysters, and theirs were good--that's what brought me back. I stopped by recently for a quick lunch and ordered the fried oysters, popcorn shrimp and Cajun fries with a side of Kickin sauce. The food came out quickly and tasted good overall. My only note is that the oysters seemed a bit smaller this time around. Service was quick and attentive. The ambiance was quiet and relaxed since we went around 5 p.m. on a Thursday. I'd come back if I were in the area and craving it again, but I do wish they offered a fried seafood platter. A lot of the appetizers sound good, but ordering them individually is pricey.
