I had the BEST experience at L'elite this weekend. Mona was my stylist and I cannot sing her praises enough. She was clearly extremely knowledgeable and gave my mother and I a little tour around the salon while grabbing many dresses she thought I would like as well as silhouettes I hadn't even considered but loved. She was very respectful of our budget. When I tried dresses on she would show me different things that the tailors could do to change it or add to it to make sure it was what I want. I ended up finding my perfect dress and it was one Mona had picked out for me to try! She also found some gorgeous veils for me to try on as well that I would have never considered in addition to the type of veil I went in looking for. During the whole appointment I felt very comfortable and I felt like I was listened to and respected; my guests with me felt the same. I can't say enough about my outstanding experience at L'elite Occasions Boutique. Violet and all the staff were just so wonderful to me and my family as I was looking for the right dress for my son and daughter-in-laws wedding. They were kind, caring and considerate as they assisted me through the process and helped me pick out the perfect dress that made me, my son and my dear husband from above so happy with. So many of the styles and selections of the dresses at their boutique were just so gorgeous and different from what you see in other stores and online. It almost makes you wish you have more events to go to! The designer dress I went with, Frascara, was stunning, stylish, sophisticated yet fun to wear to be on the dance floor in. My son had the biggest smile on his face when he first saw me in it. I made him so proud and I felt so happy wearing the beautiful dress. I purchased my Vera Wang dress at a separate location due to the pandemic, and L'elite's ateliers made an exception and allowed me to come and have my dress altered regardless. Lena did the most insane job on my dress - I never knew I could look so beautiful. She also assisted me and hand picked a gorgeous hair piece and earrings to go with my dress and veil, while making me feel less nervous and cared for every single step of the way. I will absolutely purchase from L'elite occasions in the future because of the atelier. I used L'elite for my bridesmaids dresses and had a wonderful experience. The staff were excellent at coordinating the sizing, color, and shipping of dresses to all over the US. I give them 0 stars for their tailoring. I had my wedding abroad and they worked on both of my dresses, which I bought at Vows. I didn't inspect the dresses before leaving the shop and when we arrived in Europe the side seam was NOT sewn all the way and there was a water stain on the satin from being steamed. We had no time to fix it. I never contacted L'elite about this, but was/am still pretty pissed off, considering I spent thousands on tailoring and thousands on the dress and NEVER WORE THE DRESS... read more

Shopping for the dress in the salon was a lovely experience and where I'm allocating my stars -- Ali, my consultant was great and very kind. I left the store very happy having chosen l'elite to work with. The problems started after the dress was purchased / in alterations: 1. I was given 0 tracking information for my dress, which took 6 months to arrive. I was living out of state so had to book travel around the arrival of the dress for my first fitting, and kept receiving vague and unhelpful answers from the team. 2. The fittings, which were supposed to be fun and exciting, were somewhat stressful. The seamstress assigned to me was cold and dry, and made me feel stupid for suggesting certain changes to the dress that she didn't agree with. I repeatedly felt like I was asking for something ridiculous when all I was doing was making changes to sleeve and hem lengths. I had to fight to have the train shortened on my own dress because she "didn't think it was a good idea." My mom and I left each fitting sweating and anxious. 3. In 3 out of 4 fittings, the requested changes were not complete by the time we arrived, which it difficult to fully envision the final product, and forced us to go for a fourth time when the job could've easily been done in three fittings (again, I was not making ANY major / structural changes to the dress, just shortening things). My first and second fittings were a month apart, and in that time, all she was doing was shortening the hem and sleeves, and that work was not completed when I arrived. 4. I asked for some of the excess hem material to be added to the bottom of the veil as detailing, which was actually a suggestion of Ali + co. back when I bought the dress. When I arrived to see it, it was horribly unfinished and rudimentary -- it looked like the material had been sloppily cut and glued onto the veil. My mom and I provided detailed guidance on how this should be fixed and we were assured it would be. When I went to pick up the dress 3 days later (I couldn't take it home that day because the veil looked so poor), we unfortunately realized after we got home that the veil still hadn't been properly fixed and still looked incredibly sloppy. We called l'elite to ask for a partial refund on this work so we could take it elsewhere to be fixed, and they asked me to send them photos, then didn't respond for more than a week (after my wedding had passed). My mom and I ended up spending two hours fixing the veil ourselves with eyebrow scissors.... when pressed for some refund or even acknowledgement of the mistake, l'elite basically told us we should've driven back to Boston to have it fixed (we told them we couldn't do this as we were already en route to our venue). Overall, I felt the alterations team was unpleasant to work with (by far our least cooperative vendor) and consistently made me feel like I was stupid or in the wrong. They did very little to make us feel like valued customers, loved talking over us, correcting us, or shifting blame, which I've seen others mention in their reviews as well. For the very high prices they charge for baseline alterations, I would never recommend this experience to others. TL;DR, buy your dress at l'elite, but take it to be altered elsewhere. You'll have a more pleasant experience that's MUCH more worth your money. read more

Preface: Prior to visiting new places, I turn to yelp to guide and prepare me provided I have time to plan. So, going into this I knew what to expect. I spent literally three minutes in this place and felt the wrath of the overly pretentious sales associates. I wasn't greeted with a "hello", "welcome", or "how may I assist you?" Instead I was greeted with a dirty look and after about 40 seconds of standing there a "Do you have an appointment?" I said "I called earlier & booked a 6PM appointment for an evening gown I found online". The receptionist (not the original "greeter") says "Oh, you're looking for our other location. This shop is for bridal gowns only. It's located at 121 Newbury St. I have an appointment coming in any minute for 6PM so I can't help you." The tone of her voice was as if I were in the way of the late running bride who, may I mention, hadn't arrived yet! That was it. I left feeling like their goal was to belittle me. Had I been the bride trying on the gown with the original "greeter", I would have felt so uncomfortable. I did go to the evening gown boutique, apprehensively, but in desperate search for the evening gown I found online. I was expecting similar service, but that was not the case. They were very polite, and genuine. The 121 location deserves four stars, but this review isn't about that location and so I can only give one (for the 14 Newbury Street location). A word for sales associates and management alike: You are in the business of CUSTOMER SERVICE. It is key!! It is also the foundation of your business. If you want to be successful in running a business (especially targeting such a niche group of consumers) you need to be respectful; basic consideration and a little bit of effort will convert a "just-looking" shopper into a loyal client. Remember that. Business 101 & I have a degree in mass communications for the record. Learn to speak to people in a non-condescending manner, it will take you far! I made an appointment at L'elite for my wedding dress. The dress selection was beautiful the staff was snooty. I was treated as if they are doing me a favor spending an hour with me. Barely a conversation, no smiles, I think my consultant rolled out of bed right before my appointment. For such pricy place, i'm surprised the service is so poor with no personality. After trying on LOTS of dresses (and even buying 2...) I was very much starting to think I was never going to find THE dress. I went to L'elite planning to shop off of their rack since my wedding was only 7 months away, but they pulled designers that would be able to work with my time frame. I found a gown I loved but something was just not quite right, and the team at L'elite helped me work with the designer (Ines Di Santo) to combine the top of one of her dresses with the bottom of another to create my absolute dream dress! When the dress arrived a month early, I was absolutely ecstatic and so so happy with the results. I haven't yet gone through alterations, so this review is for my experience trying on and purchasing a gown with L'elite. I wish I could give L'elite 5 stars multiple times to bring their Yelp rating up. I almost didn't go to their bridal boutique because of the reviews, but I figured I'd give it a shot and ended up finding TWO dream wedding gowns. Lena was amazing to work with and made the whole process a lot of fun. I really felt like she was on my side and was invested in the outcome. I showed up with my mother and MOH and gave L'elite my budget of $5000. We experienced wonderful, attentive service. Lena didn't show us a single dress above budget, and several gowns I tried on were actually well below $5000. Many of the gowns I tried on were from the Marchesa Notte trunk show which likely gave us more options within our budget. I never felt pressured into a more expensive option. I said yes to the dress on the spot but went home and started questioning my decision. When I called L'elite the next business day, Lena was out so I spoke with Naomi instead. She let me come in on very short notice to retry my top two gowns on, and made me feel great about my final decision. If you're on the fence about making an appointment at L'elite I recommend going for it! The quality and selection of their gowns is breathtaking. read more

I rarely write Yelp reviews but was so compelled to write a glowing one for L'elite, and specifically Lena, after recently getting my bridal dress here! Lena was nothing but a pleasure from start to finish. I am so thankful for her knowledge, honesty and kindness throughout the process. I started the process very late looking for a dress in November for an April wedding. I went to over 5 different stores and out of those, Lena made me feel the most comfort and trust in her - she eased my stress and assured that I would get my dress on time. Lena made me feel like a friend, not a customer. We rushed the dress and was supposed to come in by end of February. Lena just called me earlier this week to let me know the dress had already come, over two months early! As a very indecisive person, Lena helped me to find exactly what I was looking for. There were so many dresses that I wanted to take pieces from and put together until Lena pulled my dress. She is so knowledgable about different fabrics and cuts and found exactly what I hoped for but had trouble articulating. I also appreciated her honesty when asking for her opinion to help me decide as I knew she wanted me to find the dress of my dreams. She was also so creative in describing what I could and could not do with alterations, should I decide to make any changes. I went to L'elite twice and when I came back the second time, Lena had researched other options and even talked to the designer on my behalf to see if we could make some custom changes to the dress! I went to several places to try dresses in both San Francisco and Boston. I found my wedding dress here but I was not happy with the service. The selection here is good but the service was not aligned with what I would expect. Unfortunately, the women working here put a lot of pressure on you in the dress you are in and it doesn't feel authentic. Anything you put on is beautiful and great and "top of the line". Additionally, every time I brought up something that I was concerned with about my dress, they reacted quickly with "we can just ask for double lining" as if that would definitely resolve the issue. We did that for my dress, and it didn't resolve the trouble I had with it. I would just say that if the experience is important to you, make sure you are comfortable with the people you are working with. I went elsewhere for my alterations and I'm so happy I did because I don't trust that they would have been able to do what I wanted with the alterations. read more

I am so excited about my engagement, but I was dreading the dress shopping experience because I worried that I wouldn't find anything that would fit my body. I really can't say enough about my wonderful experience at L'Elite Occasions Boutique. Violette and her team are utmost professionals and true experts. The process of buying a MOB or MOG dress is not like regular dress shopping, and you must understand coming here comes with a certain price tag and lead time. However, with that you get 1:1 attention and a made to order, high-end dress. The choices were abundant, and styles/colors for every body type and size. Saks/Nieman's/Bergdorf were sold out in mostly everything, OR the items screamed "prom", "dumpy", or $5k. This was such a better solution. What's more is that the experience was SO good, I went on to purchase custom flower girl dresses and a custom rehearsal dinner dress to my specifications. The store was extremely Covid safe - masks required. Beautiful clean water, great mirrors, store was not hot --- all the things that could add to a bad experience. Review after review below point out how awful, unhelpful, rude, and disorganized the staff here are, and this review is no different. Tia was my sales woman and she was VERY unclear, kept contradicting herself about sales, sizes, etc. Additionally, she all but refused to tell me the name of the designers who's dresses I was trying on - this is a serious problem when one's mother and bridesmaids live all over the country, the "boutique" won't allow photos, and you'd like to actually share a picture of the dress before spending over 6K! Figure it out. Get some knowledgeable and helpful staff working for you, get a webcam, and live up to the standards which a bridal boutique on Newbury should be able to meet. I bought a bridesmaid dress here last year and the experience was pretty bad. The dress was for my best friends wedding in Colorado. As I live in Boston I wanted to buy the dress here so I could get measured, get alterations, etc. The wedding was about seven months out and the shop made a BIG fuss about having to pay a rush fee to get it in time, etc. Still, they GUARANTEED me that it would be here & still have time to complete all alternations before I had to leave for Colorado. To make a long story short the dress did come in but later than expected and I did a lot of calling & worrying on my part b/c it hadn't arrived when specified. The shop was accommodating and did alternations in a 3 day turn-around but when I went to pick up the dress (the day before my flight out of town) IT WAS MISSING!! There were lots of phone calls back and forth, the sales person disappearing for a LONG period of time to hunt for my missing dress, etc. I was nearly in tears as I was the maid of honor and had to leave on a flight the next morning for this out-of-state wedding. I'm not sure what I would have done if they couldn't have located the dress. VERY STRESSFUL!!! They finally located my dress back at the alternations place and I had to come back at like 7pm that night (it was around 4pm when I was at the shop). It was very strange.... I don't think they'd completed the alterations as promised. The dress got lost, wasn't altered, they had an angry customer, so they arranged for someone to alter it really quick. Anyway, they made a big deal about someone being there "especially" for me so I could get the dress at 7pm that night. I thought wait a minute, who is the one messing up here? Skip this bridal shop. While the entire dress experience for any to-be bride should be an enjoyable and fun experience, I had an awful time with this boutique! As the dress was quite pricey already I was specifically concerned about how much alterations would set me back; after Tia, the saleswoman, quoted me $200-300, I felt that it was reasonable and decided to purchase the dress. Fast forward 4 months later when I came in for my first fitting and was then told that my alterations would cost $800+....I was floored! I calmly spoke to the manager and to my horror she BLAMED me for not having the quote documented and said that there was no way that alterations were that cheap. I then told her it was unprofessional and unethical for the saleswoman to tell me a much lower price when alteration costs were clearly much higher. I even said that my mother, who was there when I purchased my dress, could verify the quote Tia had given me. To my dismay, the manager continued to aggressively argue with me and only when I had burst into tears in front of the customers did she then offer to bring down the price a tiny bit. Regarding the alterations, I worked with Lena, who was quiet and not particularly warm, which made the entire dress fitting experience rather awkward. Although my dress looked beautiful at the end, had I known how poor the management and service was, I would have chosen another place to have purchased and altered my dress. I had the absolute best experience at L'Elite. It was my first day shopping for wedding dresses so I had no idea what to expect, but I was so pleasantly surprised about the whole process. Isabel was incredibly patient and let me take as much time as I needed. She made me feel comfortable and had great vision for dresses that would suit me. We went here to shop for my wedding dress. This was my third appt so I knew a little more about what I was looking for. My consultant was Nelly and after giving her information about cut, style, detailing and budget.. she still seemed clueless about what dresses to pull for me. Apparently I wasn't helpful enough because as I was indifferent with the first dress or so.. she snapped at me with, "How will you know when it's THE dress!?!" In the end.. it was just a painful experience of trying on dress after dress that wasn't right. Have to admit, I was a little nervous to go here based on some of the reviews. I had to order a BM's dress and I had no problems at all. I didn't get the snobby, pretentious attitude that others mentioned. My dress arrived when they said it would and I got my alterations there too. Since it was a full length dress, I needed to get the hem taken up. $65 for the hem to be done, which is pricey when you are paying $200 for the dress. Tried L'elite after a horrible trip to Priscilla's and thought maybe things could be better...they weren't really. Called to make an appointment and the person couldn't understand what we were asking for....We want to try on BOTH bride and bridesmaid dresses...get to the store, no appointment. So we milled around while they finished with their customers and did the bridesmaid portion...really the store is just chaos, just find a dress that is hanging up and try it on. The sales-ladies barely offered to help and wouldn't find out what the other colors could be of the dress we liked. Finally upstairs was ready for bridal gown fitting. My consultant could barely speak a lick of English and didn't ask any style preferences or price range, told me to pull the dress of the racks myself...gee thanks. Same as Priscilla's, forget it if you are over a Size 8 because they don't have anything for you to try on. I booked a very last minute appointment (same day, about an hour in advance and on a Saturday to boot)...and L'elite had absolutely no problems in accommodating me. I went with 4 of 5 of my bridesmaids...it was a crowd, but no one in the shop made us feel badly about it. I had a laundry list of what I was looking for and what I didn't want. Plain, with straps, no beads, no lace, no pearls, just very classic and plain. I went to L'elite specifically because they carry Provonias gowns from Spain. My bridal consultant was Liz...and she was amazing. The girls and I raided the racks, picked out gowns that fit my descriptions, some that might just be fun to try on and others that were just so outrageously priced I had to try it on to see what it looked like! Liz went to the racks and picked out a few gowns as well ... but she put them towards the back and said we would get to them. I tried on the first dress and Liz asked me to describe what I liked and what I didn't like. If I didn't like the dress...why didn't I like it? What would I change? Were there any redeeming qualities? It was a great way of getting me to talk outloud about it rather than just say, NO. After a few misses, Liz brought out one of her choices. It was exactly what I didn't want. All lace. It was a beautiful dress, but not what I had envisioned in my head. She said to me, "Just try it on and see how it makes you feel...you can always say no." Ok fine. Perhaps it was the fact that it actually fit and could zip up...maybe not...but when I turned around...it was perfect. I never saw myself as an ivory lace girl...but I am now. Liz had listened to everything I had liked and disliked about each dress I tried on and came up with the perfect dress. And to boot...it's a Provonias!!! When the curtain opened...the girls were silent and then I saw that my sister had started crying. It was definitely the one! I would completely recommend L'elite to brides-to-be. I chose not to go through their bridesmaid shop in favor of giving business to a local boutique in the small NH town I'm getting married in and it sounds like that may have been the right choice! read more

So I went in here to try on wedding dresses. I met with a woman named Liz and she was GREAT. I found her to be helpful, unpretentious and I really enjoyed my experience. That being said, I went back today to look at bridesmaids dress and the woman upstairs was so rude I can't even believe it. I felt like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. There was another girl there who appeared to be getting okay service and even she seemed uncomfortable with how the woman treated me. I said thank you as I was leaving because I couldn't get her to help me and she FLAT OUT ignored me. No "goodbye," no "you're welcome." I was interested in a couple of the dresses, but she was completely disinterested in me. If you go, ask for LIz. read more

My cousin is getting married and I'm in the wedding. She's selected the color of the dress, the designer and the length. Now I need to go and pick the top. Of course, I'm headed to L'elite. It's a little confusing when you first arrive, as they have two separate locations: one for bridal, one for bridesmaids/mother of the bride, and one for tailoring/alterations. I wish they put a sign on the door so I could have saved myself from walking 2 flights of stairs unnecessarily. The women in the bridesmaids/mother of the bride section were very helpful and polite. They had quite a few dresses from the right designer, but they were a little old and tattered. They could probably use a few new samples for their floor. I was expecting a little bit more selection in general, but the place was pretty small, I guess. I tried on a few dresses, found the one that I liked best and got measured. My dress came in and was pretty close to being the correct size, but it did require some alterations. Their alterations section is also separate, so I had to sign for my dress and carry it up to their alterations section, which is next door and up two flights of stairs. It was a little inconvenient, but at least I didn't have to go to the gym that day. The ladies in alterations were nice, and my appointment literally lasted 5 minutes. And I didn't get pricked by a needle. SWEET. They made a follow up appointment for exactly a week later where I can try on my dress and take it home, which was nice. I thought that the pricing was fairly reasonable for the alterations that my dress needed, which was a pleasant surprise considering what I had read on Yelp. I probably won't be back if and when the time comes to pick out a gown for myself because it seemed like they had a smaller selection than some other stores, but I had a pretty positive experience all in all. read more

L'elite was not much fun. It took them forever to greet us when we walked in (despite an appt) and there was a bit f shuffling before we were finally assigned someone. My biggest complaint is that wedding dress shopping should be fun and at L'elite it just felt like a hassle. The sales associate wasn't rude, but she certainly wasn't nice, interesting, or fun, and she didn't really have a sense of humor. Also, for a Newbury Street boutique that is apparently high end, the place is quite run down. So I guess it's about what you want from the experience. I like it when the sales associates try to get a sense of what I'm looking for and what my wedding will be like. I like it when wedding dress shopping feels like a special experience and it just doesn't at L'elite. On another note, the bridesmaids shop downstairs is only average and the owner is pushy and has a terrible attitude (as if she's doing you a favor). If you push back though she tends to back off, so if you're looking for a dress there, just push back a little and it will be much more pleasant. read more

Please don't read into some of these negative reviews- they could not be far from the truth. The L'elite staff could not have been more helpful and respectful. My stylist Lucia, had the most warm and gracious personality. She and the other employees made me feel so comfortable. Lucia helped me find the dress of my dreams $2000 under my budget, and gave me great styling advice to complete the look. These women are professionals, and want every bride to feel and look beautiful on their special day. I would advise reading the "before your appointment" section on the L'elite website before going to your bridal appointment. Reading the L'elite recommendations prior to your appointment will make the experience go much more smoothly. I would also advise against bringing a 10+ entourage. Not only is it a small boutique, but too many opinions can cloud your judgement, be a distraction to other guests, and make it difficult for your stylist to focus on you, and cater to your needs and wants. Overall L'elite is worth going to when looking for a bridal gown. The selections are endless and no matter what your price range, the stylists will do their best to help you find something memorable. read more

I'm a bride-to-be and I bought my beautiful, fabulous, amazing Elie Saab "Neftis" gown here yesterday. I'm tempted to give a full five stars now, but I'm going to reserve the final star until I've been through alterations and actually worn MY dress. I called the day before to get an appointment, and it was kind of hard to understand the woman who took the call, but I confirmed that they did have Elie Saab gowns in the store for me to try (this was not the case at any other store that supposedly carried this designer). Parking on/near Newbury can be a pain, but we found a spot not too far from L'Elite after driving around for less than 15 minutes. My consultant was Lauren, and she was amazing! I knew from the beginning of my gown search that I wanted an Elie Saab, so that may have made things easier on her, but she listened carefully to what I wanted and brought me several gowns that made me seriously question my commitment to that designer. After two grueling and agonizing hours of trying and retrying several gowns, Lauren confirmed my intuition that the "Neftis" was the right choice for my wedding venue and theme. She was very honest with me, never pushy and she gave me a great experience, even though my mom and bridesmaids couldn't be there. Since my wedding date was moved abruptly from fall to spring, I have a very tight timeline for getting everything together, and Lauren made sure that the gown would be delivered with plenty of time for alterations and that I wouldn't incur any rush fees. CRAZY STORY -- I bought a wedding dress here even though I was not getting married. Long story but a friend in the UK found a dress she liked for WAY cheaper here in the US than it was in the UK -- she looked up all the stores in the US that carry it and turns out this place was one of just a few that carry some of the higher end pretty cool, but still classic looking dresses. They did not have her dress in the store but they were able to order is and since I just ordered it without bothering them about size or needing my friend to try it on (since she already had in the shop in the UK) they have us a pretty good deal! MUCH less than the UK price and less than the original price she quoted me for! Turns out they can order/carry lots of cool designers not many other New England shops do! The service was very friendly, especially from the cute girl upstairs who was going to Fashion College here in Boston. They were a little weary of my coming in, in shlepy clothing to tell them a was buying a dress then and there, but when I explained the situation a bit more they warmed up. The whole upstairs is wedding dresses and fancy stuff you might see someone wear to something SUPER formal or a really intense prom. The downstairs had a large selection of dress for brides maids, the kinda stuff where you can get 15 of the same dresses and they give you all the colors to choose from. read more
