Was taken there for lunch as a treat by my friend. We wanted to have a window view so we were seated in the bar/lounge area-no problem. The waiter service was via the bartender, and was abysmal and quite inattentive, even after 2 complaints to the management. I had the salad that was with scottish salmon. The salmon was quite good. The salad part was passible, and the mustard vinaigrette was OK. $5.50 for a pot of earl gray tea and $5.50 more for a fresh pot. My friend has gone to the restaurant many times, and was quite embarrassed by the service, etc. Will not return. read more

We decided to have our wedding reception at L'Escale after having good experiences here over the past few years. The location is great - the food is generally good, etc. However, we have never been more put-off by the staff. Darrah in particular was awful. They were not responsive to inquiries about their services, absolutely rude and the exact opposite of accomodating. I can't even imagine how bad they would have been AFTER we were paying clients, when their 'salespeople' were so bad. We walked in to sign on the dotted line (ready to spend tens of thousands on the event) and left completely dis-enchanted. Needless to say, we are taking our business elsewhere. read more

7/2/14 dinner: Not great things to say about this place other then it has a beautiful atmosphere-which in my opinion does not make up for the experience we had. I have been here multiple times and every time was worse than the previous so I figured I would speak up to the maître'd about the rude service beginning from when we checked in with hostess to when we paid the bill at the end our dinner. I get this is Greenwich CT however TRAIN your staff to have some etiquette and manners as we are clients and should be treated in a decent way. They really paid attention to detail and were a pleasure to deal with. I've been here twice and both times the service was terrible. The first time wasn't great but I always give places a second chance. The second time it took us 50 minutes to get our appetizers, and an hour and a half to get us our dinner. We got shrimp cocktail (huge, nasty tasting shrimp), salad (tasteless) and seafood with the mushroom side dish (weird texture and horrible). Never again! After wanting to go ever since I laid eyes on this place two years ago, I finally got to try it tonight and I was not disappointed. My fiancé and I recently got engaged and decided to celebrate a little and splurge. Now first let me say, they have a bar area that looked like a fabulous time if you're looking for a great location but don't want to break the bank. We'll definitely be back there before summer is over! We started out with the pigs in the blanket. They were spicey, which was a surprise to me, but my fiancé loved it! I had the 12 oz steak with fries, cooked medium rare. I don't think I've ever eaten that much steak in my life but with the flavor I gobbled it up! For dessert we got the vanilla and chocolate souffle. I could eat that souffle all day it rocked my world. It wasn't too sweet and filled with sugar how I feel most desserts these days are. You can tell they took their time with the food and take pride in what they do. I will absolutely come back again to check out that bar and for the next celebration. read more

Well it was 4 for 4 - of a bad experience. We were celebrating my mother's bday again this year thinking the service HAS to be better but... sadly, we were wrong. Terrible table on a night where the restaurant was not full. Drink service was horrible. After being served a house wine, (no choices were offered) we were never approached by the wait staff for a refill. We had to grab their attention to get another wine. Dinner was fine but service was SO inattentive. We are the fools for going back every year but it is easy for my mother to get into because of her wheelchair. We had asked 4 times about the dessert for my mother's 93rd bday. They got it wrong again - year after year - so yes, we are the fools for going back but that won't happen again next year!! read more

We enjoyed a birthday dinner with a party of 11 here last weekend. The decor and ambiance are beautiful. The food was expertly prepared and delicious, with very nice wine offerings. The restaurant was very busy and was, unfortunately, clearly understaffed given the at-capacity crowd. I haven't been sneered at by a hostess and Maitre d (or whatever you call the guy who runs things here who looks like he has had numerous facelifts) since the 80's when restaurants could still get away with it until I came to this place for lunch this afternoon. A friend who lives nearby invited me for lunch outside as it was a nice day so I accepted. Food was good and service was fine. Upon entering however you received so poorly by the sourpuss hostess (who clearly has better things to do than seat you) and the guy who seems to be in charge (who really has no idea about real hospitality is) that we almost considered leaving. My husband I went here for dinner on Saturday and by 7 pm the entire restaurant was packed. This is by far, one of the top restaurants in Greenwich. Everything from the service, the drinks, the ambiance, and of course the food was superb. Our waiter assured me that if I didn't like our cocktail or my risotto he would be happy to bring me something I would prefer... and he certainly did with the cocktail! It is so rare to get such perfectly done risotto and seared scallops. My dessert of soufle was also quite special and rare to find on a menu these days. Great location, decent breakfast food, inattentive service, high prices. The fruit, chocolate croissants, and sausages were all excellent. The pancakes and bacon so-so: the bacon was very thin and 'healthy' (as if one wants healthy bacon). The pancakes were soggy. The waiters forgot and had to be reminded twice about: an order of bacon, water for 2 of 4; toast (despite bringing jam). The missing bacon never came, but arrived on the check. read more

there is nothing like l'ascale. If you're trying it for the first time, try to wait till summer and then make it a date - ask to be seated outside (reservations are definitely required). The prices are biting (we spent around 100$ for lunch just as an example), but honestly everything that I've tried there is made to perfection. The atmosphere is very romantic, even at the bar. You get a kind of feel that you're in a castle on water. The staff was very accommodating, maybe a bit slow at times, but I think it was purposeful to give you a bit of time to enjoy your wine/meal/desert and talking. read more

We reserved 2 weeks in advance to be placed by the boats it was really cold we didn't complain but joked to one of the managers he said as soon as there's an open table I will move you very nice of him 10 min later he said theres a table available fallow me so we did as we where getting near to the table he realized the table was not set up so he apologized and said just wait until they fix the table so we did out of nowhere comes this girl yells at us for not wearing a mask I understand that she wants to keep everyone safe but the way she said it was so rude that I was just in shock I have been coming to this restaurant for so long and have never felt so disrespected it was so unprofessional and I was so embarrassed I honestly thought for a second that she was joking because we where outside so I didn't get it after that I try to explain that we where already sitting and we where being moved nobody told us we had to wear a mask to move from one table to another but she was still with the same attitude so yes I just ignored her and walked to the table that was already set up for us I wish I got her name but I was so embarrassed that I just walked away didn't even eat my dinner took it to go because she ruined my night I have always recommended this place to all my clients but never again 8 years coming to this place ruined in one night thanks and the food was not liked it used to be so never ever going back there was other unprofessional situations that happened but I won't mention them but they need to be more professional and nicer to there clients the way they used to be before read more

Unfortunately, my dining experience was awful. I order the seafood platter in the bar room. As inspected my oyster, I noticed an odd companion, to my dismay it was a crab, that was still alive. My wife and I went there for our 7th Wedding Anniversary. What a wonderful night. The staff made us feel special. They could not have been more accommodating or responsive. The Prince of Morocco showed up with his entourage later. I doubt he got better service than we did. The ambiance was very inviting. Excellent lighting. A classy, cozy atmosphere. And being right on the water was nice. As for the food - delicious. The local roasted oysters were fantastic. The house salad was solid. And the pork belly hit the spot. L'Escale feels like a yacht club (is it)? To be fair I saw one or two parked by the bar (I wonder if they get drive-through service...). Regardless, the place is beautiful. The staff is very attentive. Very polite. Do not intrude. Allow you to eat and drink at your pace. I ordered the fall salad. I'm not a big fan of strong vinegar dressings. But if you are, the salad is good. I had the filet with green peppercorn. That was VERY good. The filet was tender and cooked perfectly. It came with au gratin potatoes - good, but not the best. The Brussels sprouts were good, if you like them. Cocktails quite good. I sat in the bar because I was staying at the hotel on business. It was louder than expected. Beautiful restaurant. I've come here a few times for drinks and the outdoor "patio" overlooking the water is really nice. The tuna tartare was decent (it's made tableside), burger was really tasty and very filling. The wine and cocktail lists are great.
