Love this store - we stop whenever we are in the area. So many great deals we can't find down in the Freeport area. It's never too crowded and the clothes are usually still very neat and organized, even on the weekend! (not sure about the summer/tourists months though) Our savings usually range from 40-60% and we always have purchased something when we have visited the store, mostly clothing/shoes. The staff / team is present, pleasant and helpful. Most staff is behind the register and there are only a couple of people on the floor stocking and organizing. The head quarter store is cool but can be over whelming. Wish there were more staff around. I do like how they have the actual store then an outlet store and then a home store. The iconic bean boot statue is right in front so make sure to snap a pic. I agree the store is pricey but if you go to the outlet store you can find some hidden gems however either way the material is worth the price. The best part of our time here was we ate at Linda beans kitchen restaurant which was unique and yummy. You would think she would have more homey foods but it was still nice to sit and eat here. read more

First encounter after more than 20 years and not a pleasant one. A simple order of a pair of men's mocassins and a flannel shirt. Arrived today. Poor quality construction on the slippers. Size 13 with a toe box so long and narrow - unusable and uncomfortable. Then the very hard fabric labels are stitched right into the instep - so impossible to wear without socks. Bottom line, I used LLB's chat to connect with Michelle. LLB wants me to BUY a return label for $6.50. That's over 10% of the cost of the mocs. Just because a company has survived 111 years doesn't make it a good company or worthy of it's unaccredited A+ rating. A+ perhaps for marketing hype. F on quality, transparency and failure to disclose there was a return fee for their poor contract manufacturer QA/QC - or more likely Made in China where the average foot with is A/B not C/D like here in America. I was so excited to learn that Bangor had an LL Bean Outlet store before I moved from NYC that I planned to purchase all necessary camping and hiking gear there. I stumbled upon the outlet, but much to my dismay, the store is quite small and unimpressive. The store offers men's, women's and kid's sections, bags, sleeping bags, shoes, fishing and furniture. Sounds impressive, right? Unfortunately, there are not many selections in each category (save clothes, but they weren't styles I would normally wear). I could not find any men's size sleeping bags nor did I see any tents, and the price on a ripped sleeping bag was still $125+. The camping backpacks were very limited (only one large size) as well. I will say, they have a very nice selection of shoes and the prices on the shoes were spot on. If you have specific items in mind or things that are futile to your camping experience, I would recommend a different avenue; but, if you just want a fishing pole, some chairs and maybe a pair of shorts that you don't mind getting dirty, this is the place and the price is right. read more

Good stuff if you dig through and stay awhile. Not so attentive staff - I carried around a handful of clothing in my arms in front of one employee who was organizing things and she didn't once offer to start me a fitting room or put some things at the front counter so I had free hands to look through other racks - this was disappointing! She ended up being the lady at checkout who rang me up and was very sweet, just oblivious I suppose. This was my first time to a LL Bean Outlet store so I didn't know what to expect. They have a lot of items that have been embroidered with the names of other children and monogram block letters that were obviously returned for one reason or another and are now slightly discounted. If you know how to remove or unstitch embroidery then these are a good deal. I stuck to the clothing and sea bag wristlets in the back - those were a gem to have found! It was definitely neat to go to a store that was started right there in Maine and reaches all the way across the country where I receive items from the catalog at Christmas. read more

I love LL Bean. Whenever I go to Maine I make a point to visit LL Bean and get some stuff. This time we didn't get to Freeport to visit the flagship store but we were able to stop in here. The employees were friendly. The store had a pretty good selection. Honestly I didn't think a lot of the prices were that great but many were good. I found a cotton/ cashmere blend hoodie that I love and wore for much of my trip. Some of their prices are good, some not so much. You have to do some legwork to find deals here but it's worth it if you take the time. read more

My Uncle is an avid L. L. Bean buyer. However, there is a marked difference between the "old" L. L. Bean that' he's used to from the 1960's and 1970's and now. Because of WTO 2001 and NAFTA, it messed everything up and rewarded companies like L. L. Bean for setting up shop overseas, and very, very, little of their products are made in the U. S. A. any more. Yet, they are still charging premium prices for sweatshop labor. I feel betrayed, and actually, quite angry, since I was looking for a top-quality, MADE IN AMERICA coat, that I could proudly say, "I kept Americans working!" But nooooo. L. L. Their return policy is a SCAM, their prices are OUT RAGES, and, the quality is SUBPAR! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! After approximately five years of owning my L.L. Bean backpack it became simply unusable among many other problems the backpack had developed over the years when one of the two zippers completely broke. The item was purchased new for me from the L.L. Bean store in Bangor Maine so I returned to the store to take advantage of their guarantee. Upon entering the store they had no replacement back packs of comparable style/size so my intention was not to even replace the backpack that day I just wanted an estimate of how much money on an L.L. Bean gift card I would get to replace it and to find out if there was any way they could order me the backpack while at the same time allowed me to keep the other backpack since I do need something to keep my stuff in the meantime. Upon this the cashier started searching all pockets for something and informed me it was missing a tag. I explain to the cashier there never was a tag I never attempted to remove the tag and that there is no evidence that there ever was a tag that was removed! Like I said before this backpack was purchased new! They proceeded to ask for names of people that could've purchased the item my mother was with me so she gave her name and interestingly enough there was no record forever purchasing anything before the year of 2016 definitely not the five year backpack so we proceed to get my grandmother's name who is a frequent L.L. Bean customer and has been an L.L. Bean credit card holder for at least the past 30 years receives flyers at her house frequently buys and return items at her local stores in Connecticut frequently purchases whenever in Maine and even shops online! But yet not in the system! What a LIE! After this we begin to get rather angry and additional staff come over to see what is happening they all start treating us as if we are criminals and are attempting to steal from them! What in the world is wrong with someone trying to return something and follow up on the policy which they were guaranteed when purchasing they didn't guarantee me it would last for a day they guaranteed me my lifetime! Why in the world do I need to keep a receipt for what they're going to be guaranteeing me is a lifetime? Why is it my fault your computer system is a lie and doesn't record anything? The build quality of their items is pitiful! The inability to be able to follow their own lifetime guarantee is ridiculous if they don't want to follow it get rid of it! Stop charging outrageous prices for junk and start to get reasonable prices! I've had similar experiences at the Ellsworth store as well! I have never had a good experience with L.L. Bean! They have SCAMMED me out of the almost hundred dollars for the backpack and then the additional cost to buy a backpack from another company When you do business with this Company you're not guaranteed lifetime quality you are guaranteed a headache and being treated as if you are a common criminal when you are trying to just to take advantage of something that they agreed to when you gave them an out rages amount of money for their product! After this experience I decided to go over to Sam's Club and pick up a Swiss gear backpack for only $40 and it's definitely a better quality than the L.L. Great little store with lots of stock and some good sales. I found a couple of shirts in my size that I couldn't find elsewhere. This is not to be compared with the big store(s) in Freeport, but with no crowds, easy parking and lots of stock, it was a quick and easy shopping trip. read more
