This is a hard review for me to write. I LOVE the food! The food is 5/5!! Definitely recommend getting the food to-go. Authentic Mexican food in a cute little restaurant with Mexican decor. BYOB- if you bring tequila , they will make you margarita :) Fish tacos- TO DIE FOR. Wings - okay Fajitas - HUGE portion, definitely split with someone or be ready to bring some home! Also- if you order this while in the restaurant, be ready for a lot of smoke, it fills up the place quickly, making it hard to breath. But YUM!! The reason I cannot give this place 5 stars is because of the service. I came here for my birthday May 1st, which happens to be so close to cinco de mayo!! It took them 10 mins to seat us when the restaurant was empty. A table came in after us, and got their food before they even asked us for our drink order. There was definitely an attitude with the staff , which stunk because it was my birthday . From the time we walked in, to the time we got food, it took well over an hour- and this was with an empty restaurant. I ordered wings as an appetizer and my tacos as dinner- both came at the same time after waiting an hour- bummer . Between the long waits and the attitude from staff I will never dine here again. Wife had the Camarones la Diablo, kids had nachos and rice n' beans, I had the Chuletas a la Mexicana. Everyone thought it was delicious -- the Chuletas (pork chops) especially were superb, prepared extra spicy with double jalapeños as requested. Menu was reasonably priced. My wife and I ordered a pleasant drink that's often overlooked in 2 Horchatas. The flavor was exactly the way it should be. For dinner, my wife ordered a dinner special with 4 jumbo shrimp and 4 large, tender scallops in a superb sauce along with rice and 5 fried plantains. Wife said rice was mediocre but plantains were excellent. This was accompanied with a good house salad. For me, I ordered the Cazuela de Mariscos. It's a combination of shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, calamari, fish and lobster. Stewed in guahilo and tomato broth. This dish was phenomenal and didn't have any shortage of seafood. It was accompanied with a soup or salad and I choose the scallop soup. Excellent soup that I finished every drop!!!! Highly recommend this establishment. Poblano crab chowder was too salty and full of corn starch. The place was packed but seemed like only 3 people working from front to back. Is that a jersey thing? Never seen it before but it seemed kind of...rude? I don't know maybe it's just me. But I tried to order the la bamba burrito but just with out the chicken and with everything else, waitress said that isn't possible...so I ordered the veggie burrito but I asked without zucchini, I just wanted the peppers and the onions and of course it arrived with zucchini in it! Kind of annoying but whatever. Just wasn't as great as the reviews say it is. Severely disappointed, btw there's a WAY better, SUPER authentic Mexican place in that flea market on the way to LBI, like around an hour away not sure what it's called but it's in the food court across from the Jewish market..so good!!! Best fish tacos I've had in a long time. Fish was deliciously crispy on the outside, done just right on the inside. The portion was large too. I was sad they didn't have the poblano chowder the day I went because it's Chowderfest in town so the had a special instead, and that was very good (avocado clam chowder). Delicious, fresh, huge portions. A last minute decision to order take out from La Bamba and we were pleasantly surprised. The enchiladas are enough for 2 to share with a generous side of rice and black beans. We got the chicken enchiladas with the mole sauce it was not too spicy and flavorful. Loved the fresh lettuce on top to balance with the warm food. The burrito was also very large, fresh, and full of flavor. The staff was friendly and had the food ready on time. Honestly I was between 3 and 4 stars. We were in the mood for Mexican and both had steak fajitas. The steak was a bit overdone but I did eat every bite. The homemade chips and salsa to start hit the spot and the crab soup was the highlight of the meal. We will go back back again and give them another shot.
