Let me start off by saying I work nights and my job is 1 street over from this establishment. I found it one early morning while leaving work starving, decided to stop by. I was expecting a bagel or something under filling, and basic BUT...I was pleasantly surprised. They have breakfast sandwiches and one was a turkey sausage on a biscuit!! This biscuit was so damn good, the sausage was good EVERYTHING was good!! The 2 reasons for the missing stars are, the staff is accommodating but not like friendly or welcoming. Its like they are just doing their job and dont make you feel like a patron. Second thing is it doesn't open until 6 which is a great time if I had a normal job. But i have to will myself to stay in Edison , and stay awake or worst stay at WORK just so i can be around for opening. read more

The selection here is not so good, but I found what I was looking for. The cake pops are called bonbons and don't have sticks. They have 4 different kinds, but almost all of the cake was sticky and felt undercooked. The carrot cake had walnuts in it and was dense, exactly the way I like it, but the frosting was thin and super sweet. The dutch german chocolate was rather dry and had coconut in it, not bad but not at all what I was expecting. They serve sandwiches and make their own bread, but its 7$ for half a roll sized sandwich. Pricey. They have a separate room that looks like it's used for event planning and specialty cake orders. I also saw some jams and preserves, but I needed to get out of there. Overall, there are small shops with larger variety, so I'll keep looking. read more

Ordered a white derby cake for my daughter's birthday. After we got home, we realized they wrote my daughter's name incorrectly on the cookie, I'm sure someone else got the wrong name too. More disappointing is the inside of the cake, it mentioned there are pineapples, there were none, there were plenty of bananas, there were minimal pieces if strawberries and peaches. The worst part is that at least two or three pieces of the banana with parts that were bad. We paid a good amount of money for the cake but receive such a bad product. read more

If you're looking for great cake's and cannolis. this is the place to be. I'd had cakes here before(an excellent chocolate mousse cake given to me for my birthday once), but I'd never actually gone here until recently. For my first visit, I came for a mango cake for my girlfriend's birthday, which they didn't have that day as they were apparently a weekend thing, but ended up leaving with several other things that caught my eye. Among my favorites was their generously sized napoleon cakes. I came back the next day because I wanted to try their cannoli's and was incredibly pleased with my selection from yesterday. The same server from yesterday recognized me and let me know that they just happened to make mango cakes that weekday and it was great coincidence I came there. Unfortunately, I had to go to work and couldn't carry a cake around with me so she offered to set the cake aside for me for when I got back. I bought my cannoli (which they make fresh by the way), went to work, came back and lo and behold, there was a cake there waiting for me with my name on it. I ordered a chocolate shadow layer 6" cake for $22.50. I asked for text to be put on the cake and a certain pick-up time. Everything was as expected. The cake was beautiful with the text as I requested and ready for me at the pick-up time. The cake itself is quite unique. I was expecting it to be very sweet because it is a chocolate cake but I was pleasantly surprised to find it semisweet. It was delicious and the party I was with agreed. Just awesome! I ordered a cake here for my mom's birthday and it was beautifully decorated...i could not have asked for something better. They took my ideas into consideration and then went above and beyond. I ordered a 9 inch derby cake..seeing it was there most popular. I was a bit hesitant at first but the girl at the counter assured me it was a great choice. I didn't know a mixture of pineapple..peaches..strawberries..and bananas could taste soo good!! I added whipped cream as my filling and it was perfect. This cake is now my new addiction! My family couldn't stop raving about the cake..it was so light and just delicious. They are a little pricey but well worth your money, especially if it's only once in awhile. I will definitely come back here for all my cakes! When a person helps you when you're in desperate need, you will generally be forever grateful. The same holds true for bakeries. This weekend I was invited to a dinner party and ordered a chocolate ganache cake from another bakery. Little did I know at the time that the other bakery forgot to put decorations on the cake. I desperately called all the bakeries and grocery stores with bakeries on the way to my party, but they all refused to decorate the cake or said they'd need a few hours to do so. I happened to call la bon and the staff said they'd be able to help. When I got to la bon, they took the cake and beautifully decorated it with purple flowers in minutes. I ordered a $75 vanilla cake with fresh strawberry filling . While i loved the decor, to my disappointment what I received instead was a banana cream filling cake (no strawberries in sight). As a new customer this will be my first and last time to order from this bakery. Our solution was to call another relative (her step-mom) who used to live in the Piscataway area, and ask for suggestions. She didn't even pause before saying La Bonbonniere and now we know why! So many choices and such helpful staff!! When we finally got to sample the 2 desserts we picked up (couldn't decide on just one) we knew why this bakery has been in business so long. No, it is not cheap, but their prices are very reasonable for the quality. I work with a vendor who always says "the cheaper you pay, the garbage you get". I love this bakery! It smells so wonderful as soon as you enter and everything they make there is fresh and delicious! I've tried pretty much all their pies and everything tasted so great! I feel like the quality had gone down. I've been buying special order cakes there for my kids for 9 years now, and I got to say at this point I cannot justify the price. This year after pricing out their cake for a birthday ($17.99 for a picture, seriously?!), we went with a "staged" cake (Madagascar, with 4 toys on top) from Shoprite and at $30 it was fabulous, with all whipped cream on top as I ordered, not a drop of buttercream (can't stand that). Anyway, I had a goupon that was expiring today so I drove to the Edison location (50 min) thinking it's their flagship store, they would have the most selection. Well, let me say there were about 3 types of cakes, and a couple of "rolls" cakes. C'mon! My local Kings, and Shoprite have about 15 - 20 each. They didn't have a black derby, so got a white one - it was eh, just okay for me, but my kids hated it. Pass on it altogether next time. read more

The place is a little hard to find since the sign isn't that clear. The strip mall it is a located in looks really rundown. I've ordered a couple cakes there but I'll just go into detail about the last one since I can't remember what the name of the first cake was. I recently ordered the White Derby for my boyfriend's birthday due to the description of it. It is white cake with filled with strawberries, bananas, a whole peach in the middle and pineapples. It is then covered in whipped cream and topped with cake crumbs. The presentation of the cake is very nice, shaped like a dome. I had high expectations for it but it was okay. The whipped cream is overwhelming since there is a couple layers of it but the fruit is pretty decent. My boyfriend ended up liking it which I was happy about. I grew up around Italian bakeries and in my youth use to walk to the Ward bakery and local Italian family bakeries in Newark and Elizabeth NJ. Now, I have found a Bake Shop that has that wonderful Apple crumb cake and Crinolli taste that I craved in my youth. These Bake shops will do BD orders and special occasions too. I once ordered a cake for a Baby shower and nobody would leave till the cake was finished. The Sugar level in the cakes are not diebetic shock level either. I know they are a bit pricey, but the staff and results are worth it. German Chocolate is to die for :-P . They have a place on Rt.35 in Woodbridge (Cookie Jar) and Rt. 27 near the Pines manor and PO Office in Edison. Every time I venture near one of these places, I have to stop in. read more

Yo guys... Like as a poor college student I got an entire gorgeous cake, a sandwich, this guava cheese pastry, and a coffee for 30 bucks its amazing. And when I went in everyone was just. So nice. They're all excited that its my birthday and I'm excited and it was great. And then I tried the cake (raspberry with chocolate ganache) and it was incredible. The raspberry frosting on the outside was delicious; it wasn't thin or overly buttery - we're talking thick, but not too thick that its gummy.
