First time at La Cabana and the brunch did not disappoint! The food: we had the Super Breakfast plate and Chiaquilles plate. Both were excellent and we would order the same again. The bacon in the Super was served crispy (my favorite) but if you like some chew, request it. Ordered eggs over medium and they came out perfectly. We had a mimosa and frozen margarita. They were both good for a local small town restaurant. The service: EXCELLENT!! Very pleasant and attentive wait staff who genuinely cared that we were having a good experience. This is an adorable restaurant near the campground we were staying at. Husband read reviews and decided we should check it out. I am pretty picky regarding Mexican food, but was tempted. The prices are great. We both ordered the Super Mexican Plate, as we wanted to get a sampling of items. We were both very happy with our meals. The taco was fresh and tasty... The meat was well seasoned, and not greasy. The enchiladas were very good, they give you the option to have them topped with onions. The taquito was OK, the chicken inside was pretty flavorless, but didn't taste bad. I had the Charro beans, which were excellent. Hubby had the refried beans and he said they were very good. The guacamole and sour cream were both fresh. The staff was very friendly and service was great. We are here for another couple of weeks, and definitely plan on returning. read more

This little gem has been hidden away in Lakehills for awhile, so when I found it I was sad it had taken me so long to check it out. This is a little Tex Mex eatery with prices and dishes you hope to find in a non chain restaurant. The chips were not homemade or if they were didn't taste homemade. The salsa was hot. On my second visit I only sampled these because my first visit I filled up on them and they weren't worth filling up on unless you have room for your meal as well. I ordered the Ladies special with a cheese enchilada, a puffy taco and refried beans and rice. All of these items were delicious. They were exactly what I hoped for. The plates come with a foil rolled tortilla that I never had room for. My friends both ordered the charro beans and said they were very hot/spicy, the operative word being VERY. I like spice and mild heat so I did not try these beans, which you can order to replace refried. On my two visits we got desserts to go, including carrot cake, cheese cake, pecan pie and apple pie. All of these were very good. On our second visit the employees were cleaning ceiling fans and light fixtures while there were diners in the rooms. I commented that the dust and dirt flying around and settling on my food I could do without. Perhaps they can clean after they close. Staff was very friendly, food was tasty and quick, and price was on point. When I visit Lakehills this is going to be a regular stop for a quick bite of Tex Mex! Nice restaurant. Friendly staff. Chips are on the thin side, but the sala was spot on. Ordered a bowl of queso, not bad. Have had better but it was tasty. Went Wife had the enchilada plate with chili con carne and she said it was the best she's had in years. I went with the super Mexican plate and was not disappointed! Would highly recommend! We're at a local campground and let's just say the eating choices in this out in the boonies area are slim. I like to eat breakfast out but have a hard time getting up at a reasonable hour these days! I love Mexican food for breakfast but this is the first place we've come by that served it. We still got there closer to noon but you can pay $1 extra and still get breakfast. Hubs had chicken fajitas and the poor dead chicken looked anemic. Fajitas are usually sizzling with onions etc and they are browned but not this time. My breakfast wasn't as good as I'd hoped, either. I liked the beans and the chips though. I should have stuck with my usual, but the service was really good and the place was much more charming than expected. I'd probably go back and try something else. read more

although I have had their taco's before and they were not bad. I have just gotten their supreme burrito with beef fajita meet, now let me tell y'all this was no burrito it was a tortilla filled with meat and beans that looks like it's just been thrown in the box topped with cheese and a sauce of some sort. the burrito did not look like a burrito that you could even pick up instead it looked like a messy pancake. I thought we'll maybe it won't be bad... I was wrong the only thing I will recommend from it is the meat it was well seasoned and cooked, besides that um sorry but it was not good at all. not only was that the problem but they had also forgotten one of our tacos. read more

I had the chicken fajitas for lunch. The beans and rice were good, but the chicken left something to be desired. The chicken was gray and looked like it was just frozen chicken pieces that had been microwaved; it had obviously not been pan cooked with the normal peppers, tomatoes, etc. The service was good and the chips were warm when served with the salsa. Since COVID-19 this place has fallen both on food AND service. When we entered we were told to "sit anywhere ". There was only one table clean. There were three tables occupied. Excellent Tex-Mex food. I normally order the Chicken Fajita on corn tortillas and are always consistently good. My wife always orders the Mexican place with one enchilada and one Gordita plate. Another fav of ours. The tripa taco is like the caviar of there lineup. My wife orders crispy ones with avacado and can't get enough. They also serve a mean caldo de res with a side of rice. The chips are light and crispy along with a semi-spicy salsa. The wait staff is always very friendly and cater to all, not just locals. Good coffee with plenty of refills. Very clean restrooms and a big mirror so you can see yourself...,washing your hands. Got cha!! Oh, they also have a well stocked wet bar that we never experience because we are their around noon. But the bar awaits you so you can experience their giant outdoor patio. They offer service if you elected to eat in the outside patio during the day. We had 6 people out there one day and service was excellent. Parking is ample and safe. Take a drive to the hill country and enjoy a great meal. read more

Wonderful! Very busy Sat night of July 4th weekend. Quaint and there was something about the atmosphere that just made me happy! Extremely good service. We had delicious enchiladas here awhile ago and asked the folks at the next table where to get a good burger. She told us "Right here." So we came back tonight and she didn't lie! Not too shabby! Went here after having a terrible experience at another Mexican restaurant down park road 37. This place blew that place out of the water. First off the server was friendly the moment we walked in and quick. We were seated, had our drinks and had ordered our food all within 5 minutes. The other place had us waiting 30 minutes with not a glass of water or a menu in site. Thank goodness this place was here to the rescue! We were wanting a quick breakfast while our dog was at the vet getting a minor procedure done and this place was great. The menudo was flavorful and had lots of meat and hominy. Good stuff. My mother's breakfast plate was huge. Perfect pancakes, perfectly cooked eggs and yummy bacon. As for myself, I got a chorizo and potato taco that was so big I couldn't finish it all. Love the big portions here and the great flavor of the food. Only downside was you only get one tortilla with the breakfast plate, I'm sure you could ask for more but not sure if there's a charge and the flour tortilla was a bit dense for my liking. This rating is not for the food (which is great!), but for discrimination. My spouse and I have frequented this restaurant. However, during this time we arrived and wanted to eat outside. However, we were informed there was only one waiter and we would have to get our food to-go, but could still sit outside, just no waiter. We were fine with this. After we were half-way through our meal, a large Hispanic family walks in, sit down, and the waiter rushes to their table, brings them menus, drinks, and chips and salsa. A boy also comes out to clean their table. My husband and I perplexed asked "did another waiter arrive? Why are they being served?" They responded "oh they're friends and family of the owners." They acted like it was totally fine and did not get that that is discrimination. I will not be returning and supporting them. read more

There is only one other restaurant in the neighborhood. Based on that, this place is awesome!!! The owner is a sweet, hardworking woman that doesn't put up with crap from customers who think they are..... um.... royalty? I digress. This place is great! normal prices. I had the chicken Mole Enchiladas one of my favorite Mexican dishes and it was delicious I like my mole sweet flavor to it. Rice and beans were good. Hubby really like this place last time we came. Me not so much. Thought I'd give it another chance. They brought us chips and salsa. This time I requested some of their hotter salsa. A green sauce. Ended up mixing the two for a good combo with just the right amount of heat. He ordered the same thing, two enchiladas with a chicken fajita taco, rice and beans. I tried the steak fajitas. Comes with rice and beans, a bit of lettuce and a couple of homemade tortillas. Rice, beans and tortillas were good. The steak was a bit tough and real salty, at least this visit I can't say the food was bland. Only came with onions, no peppers. I went to spread some guacamole on my tortilla and there was a huge hunk of extremely hard avocado. Pretty much the whole scoop they gave me was composed of this. Not edible.
