I like this spot for a late night bite. L.A Cafe is right - they have every type of L.A cuisine - tacos, burgers, Greek, chicken wings /strips, Vegan, breakfast items, coffee, donuts, smoothies, chili fries...the list just goes on and on. Even Lobster Bao! Sheesh. I've only been here a couple times, and from what I've tried it will definitely scratch your hunger pangs and make your taste buds smile. I haven't tried anything yet that makes my stomach fantasize about this place, but who knows - maybe I'll try the Lobster grilled cheese and become a fan-addict! Stopped by LA Café in Downtown LA while out walking and looking for a quick snack. The large digital menu visible from outside caught my attention--it's pretty extensive, so I decided to head in and give it a try. I ordered the 5-piece hot wings with fries and a chipotle panini. The wings were honestly a 10/10--crispy, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the visit. The fries were a nice bonus on the side. The panini, on the other hand, I was trying to decide between a chipotle or a pesto Panini. I asked the lady working and she said hands-down the chipotle Panini but was a bit of a letdown. The bread was pretty hard, which took away from the overall experience. They have a huge menu--everything from donuts to tacos to breakfast items--so there's a lot to choose from. There is outdoor seating available, but the setup isn't the most comfortable. It's more like playground-style tables with swivel chairs, which aren't ideal if you're trying to sit and relax for a bit. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the wings--they were that good. This place used to be my favorite until I had the worst experience of my life with the rudest customer service from the barista kid, skinny latino male with shoulder length black hair who kept touching his hair - needs to be pulled back if you're touching the rim of cups while making coffee drinks, who also happened to play the "supervisor" and did a disgusting job handling and rectifying an issue that an hourly employee who was at the register messed up on by charging my card twice because she didn't start a new tab even though the confirmation ticket for my card printed - a ticket didn't send to the kitchen which is an error on their system and had nothing to do with me. Instead of looking at the confirmed signature merchant and customer copy receipts that had both my payments say approved, he pestered me to pull up my bank accounts to prove to him that I was charged so he could process a refund that would take days to complete. People don't understand that it takes a lot of time and effort to pull up your statements if you don't use the app especially AMEX and you could physically see APPROVED for both charges on the receipt. He made me feel like a criminal, didn't even apologize for his co worker's annoying mistake, kept blaming everyone else instead of owning it and being a united front with his team, and then made me wait until after everyone after me got their food to prepare mine which for a burrito and premade chili took 42 mins. The person making my food didn't have any gloves on with dirty finger nails and then when handed the bag, they forgot my chili so I had to wait another 5 mins for them to scoop it into a container because it's pre made with no apology or any offering to even comp it because I ordered at 11:12 am and received my food at 11:49 am...they had no uber orders coming through and only 3 other people in the restaurant. Outside workers were drilling the bases of their tables with the door open so all of that grimey cement dust was flying into the restaurant. After eating this food, I now feel extremely ill. I used to support this place and referred so many of my network to come here on their lunch breaks but it's gone downhill and a place for the homeless to hang out. The quality is awful with even worse customer service. Come here if you want to lose a few pounds from getting food poisoning. Owners, that kid should not be working as a supervisor with no customer experience. He just made you lose a customer of 20 years. Where is the health code??? I love La Cafe and was planning to come in and enjoy a smoothie in this heat wave in Los Angeles. I was making my way into the store when I noticed a girl with extremely long hair with it pinned back, with it being down....with the smallest clip. I worked in restaurants all my life. I thought individuals with long hair should have it up? At least to my knowledge. But after taking a look, no longer wanted a drink because what if I'm drinking and I swallow a hair? This cafe has to be the cutest cafe I've ever seen and experienced. The whole cafe is splashed in a hue of pink and lots of fun decor all around. You walk in and there is a French themed vibrant buzz looming around. Their pastries are decorated with tons of mini French flags to show their nationalism to their country influenced foods that they offer on display. The thing that blew me away was how my iced match latte came in a tall boy clear can that cracks open like a soda can top. It was unique and unexpected. Winner for most unique I'd say. I'm definitely coming back here when I need a quick pick me up of loving French vibes with a quick round of goodness in my coffee. read more

I've been to this place for breakfast foods a couple times. There's a good bit of outdoor seating, and it's a super cute cafe! The service was good, but I guess I was underwhelmed by the lobster grilled cheese. There was a buy 1 get 1 deal I couldn't resist, but my goodness, the sandwiches were extremely salty. They're pretty messy, but stuffed! I was happy they were stuffed because lobster grilled cheese sandwiches tend to be thin with thinly shredded lobster, but these bites were thick, making me believe it had to be some sort of lobster blend with fish rather than pure lobster meat. Either way, it was super salty, and the chips they came with were very burnt tasting and hard. I didn't enjoy the meal. I do recall their breakfast foods being good, as I enjoyed my time here on my first visit, but I think they need to revisit the lobster grilled cheese. read more

I feel cold, I feel dark and solitary but I am just a product of my surroundings. Downtown LA can be and is, a uniquely uninviting place where the homeless have given up to a degree not seen anywhere else in the United States. However, not all things can be bad and there are some people and places that can make you feel warm and tingly in the midst of things that make you feel quite opposite feelings. Friends! I'm here to tell you LA Cafe is one of these warm & fuzzy places that is sometimes filled with warm & fuzzy people. They will be there with a LA Cafe burger when your body and senses have been taken advantage of by your booze of choice. Back in the good ole days they used to deliver around the clock. Nothing taste better than a burger or a tuna melt accompanied by french fries at 4:30 in the morning on a Sunday before you get ready for bed. Unless of course it's delivered to your doorstep. They've been there for many a Downtown Angelenos through the years. And there has to be something said about a place that's been there for more than a short amount of time. Update to my review from 9 years ago: I moved to LA 7 years ago, and LA cafe is still a take-out staple for me in DTLA! :) consistent menu, quality food, and reasonable price, and one of the few places open super late night! (Past 2am) Great place to grab food after the bar/club especially if you want something other than food trucks. I highly recommend the carne asada wrap and the chicken chipotle wrap. Two of my faves! They come with homemade potato chips which are also really good!You won't be disappointed with this local favorite! read more

The lobster grilled cheese is the reason why I would stop at La Cafe but after 2021 it was no longer the same, so unfortunate. An employee there mentioned it has a new chef? Not sure how accurate this could be but I do miss the iconic lobster grilled cheese sandwich which to me was 5 stars. I remember when I first discovered LA Café it was after a late night of dancing and barhopping with my friends which we can now no longer do because the LA night life is dead. The food here is amazing. I typically only get one of two things either a BLT or my favorite grilled cheese and lobster sandwich. It's fire. The service is pretty dope considering this place is open 24 hours so they're constantly serving people and they usually do it with a smile. Everyone there is super nice. The inside is kind of tiny, but there is outdoor seating. They offer a great drink options, canned some good desserts. I think they even offer some desserts and snacks for your dogs if you walk your dogs down there but all in all I like it get the lobster grilled cheese sandwich. That's my favorite and get the chips. DENISE G & other girl don't know her name, both working cashier at LA CAFE are extremely rude, tag teamed & cussed me out , yelling in the restaurant because I asked her why she had an attitude after throwing my change back at me, she ended up canceling my order because she didn't want to serve me. Not a total loss, though because the food is not edible majority of the time. it's just conveniently open late by the Time im out of work. I won't be returning. It , tastes microwaved & the chicken always undercooked and pink, I tried the burgers & same thing with the meat, undercooked and had bad smell. "Ambiance" is unwelcoming. Came here with a friend and wasn't excited on the experience, but definitely not a bad one. There were a variety of different options for breakfast which was pretty nice, but we ended up with the breakfast burrito and breakfast tacos. All in all, it just wasn't that great. They lacked a lot of flavor, but I still ate most of it. The lattes however were quite perfect! They have lots of milk options and good flavoring choices. It's not in the cleanest area, but for what they got, they make it work. Very fun seating with swivel bench seats and aesthetic plants around.
