I got a folding type cover for my company truck. I called several places that did not even answer their phones. Some places quoted me $1300.00. When I called this place, I was actually surprised that someone answered the phone. I was told to drop by to check out their inventory and to look at options. Upon visiting, I felt like I had the information I needed and placed an order with them. They told me that they cover would be ready the next day at 3 PM and they would give me a call to confirm. As they committed to, they called at 11 AM and confirmed that the cover was available to be installed anytime. I showed up at 3:00 PM. The installation was complete in 20 minutes. Total with tax came to $866.55. Yelp check-in waived the installation charges. Pros: Cheaper than other locations Free installation with Yelp. I was looking up camper shells for my Tacoma. The intent was to go camping, and sleep in the bed. I got on the Leer website, and started filling out info on my truck and bed size, etc. then, the website wanted to send my info to a dealer-this dealer! Well, this is LA! I decided to hop in the car and drive down there and get a quote in person. I also wanted to see and touch the merchandise, and ask a LOT of questions! Parking was a bit hard-I didn't see an obvious marked space, so I shimmied next to the camper shells, after getting the ok from the nice woman in the store. Well, the nice woman was Cindy, and she helped me on my journey! I told her what I was looking for, and gave awesome advice. I wanted a shell with a lot of headroom, but because the weight becomes an issue with the shorter bed, I was a bit limited with which ones I could get. She gave me a price for a SnugTop which was in stock, a Leer, which would need to be ordered (2 weeks), and a local company (I forgot the name)! I also asked her if she had an option for carpet, as I wanted to camp and sleep in the back. She then showed me to the custom bed carpet kit-it's wood covered with carpet and padding. It creates a platform at the level of your wheel wells, which then makes the whole bed even and padded. The carpet kit is easy to remove as well-slides out of the truck bed! Oh, and under the carpet, is a storage area!With the camper top with the extra headroom-talk about comfy sleeping! The delivery time for the carpet kit was also two weeks, so I am expecting a call in a few weeks! Cindy said the installation would be 45-60 minutes. Cindy stated her dad ran the business for a long time-so I know she knows her stuff. She's friendly and helpful, and not pushy! I got free installation with my yelp check in! There were a lot of samples-tonneau covers-soft and hard, camper shells, lock boxes, mats, and almost anything else you could need for your truck! It was a fun place to look around. My husband and I cruised around several areas checking out some camper shells for our old Ford back in May. One place we went to the guy told us, "You're not going to find anything for that truck." Lo and behold, we did at L.A. Camper Shells in Downey. The paint color does not match the truck exactly, but we intend on repainting them both someday as the colors on the truck have surely faded away after sitting countless days in the brutal Colorado sun as well as the hot, hot heat of the New Mexico sun... and now the bountiful California rays. The shell came with two keys. Some of the other places we checked out did not have keys to their shells. So this place is right off of Lakewood Blvd. You can park on the street or pull into the small yet efficient parking lot. The main guy, Luis, that works there would prefer you to park in the lot, though. Luis is a very respectful, knowledgeable gentleman. He knows his used inventory like the back of his hand. I was listening to him talk to another customer about a special order lid. He was just very respectful and not pushy like some salespeople I have heard. I haven't even talked about installation. Installation is usually $65, but he gave it to us free. We tipped the other younger guy that installed it because he did a superb job. It took maybe 30 minutes for them to get the shell down, clean it off, and install it. You can special order shells and other truck accessories, but we have an old (but great) truck and needed something quick. We'd been looking for a shell for our '02 F150 for a while and that particular year is very hard to dine. Well, I found one on Craigslist and the guy ended up selling it out from under us, so off I went, searching again and this place popped up. I'd avoided searching retail shops like this because they were so unreasonable in price...well, needless to say I was VERY pleasantly surprised! They had ONE shell that would fit our truck (even though the color was different, who cares...when you see the truck, you'll notice it doesn't really matter...lol) and it was $395 + tax (the craigslist one was $400, so that was fine with me!). I called to ask a few questions and Cici was very nice and knowledgeable and if she didn't know, she didn't guess, she asked. She recommended I send her a photo of our truck to make 100% sure it would work, so I did and she responded promptly. Now here's where the even better customer service came into play...since this is a business, they've got specific hours and that's tough, especially since we live in the Antelope Valley (1.5-2 hours away). It was close to closing that Saturday and we work all week and can't make it during their business hours. She said they could hold it, they'd just need a deposit. Perfect, we paid for half and went down the following weekend and picked it up. We also had a problem with the truck half way there, so that delayed us and Cici actually called to verify we were on our way and make sure we knew where they were located. Upon our arrival, the guys allowed my bf to use a couple of their tools to change the spark plug in the truck so we could get back home, had cold water for us and didn't seem to be bothered by the toddler needing to stretch her legs and be curious about things. I got bought a Leer shell from here around in Spring 2019. The price was on the lower end of the local market. The shell came quicker than I expected and I'm very happy with it. I had an issue with some rubbing against my truck, which was not LA Camper Shells fault (it's Leer's). Fortunately, Luis helped me out. Unfortunately, it took two return visits for him to fix the problem that I showed him the first time. The first time he tried to fix something else - which I truly appreciate. It just wasn't the problem I had. While my experience wasn't perfect, Luis was professional, helpful, and went out of his way to make it right for me, especially the second time. If we had been able to resolve my problem during my first return visit, it would have been 5-stars. I am a happy customer, and would not hesitate to recommend this shop to a friend. read more

I contacted three companies and LA Camper Shell were not only the first to respond, but the fastest to respond to my many of my followup emails. I will admit I can be very difficult as a customer, but Cindy treated me really well and was very welcoming of my many many questions. If it's your first time shopping for a shell then save yourself some time and just stop by this store. Don't waste your time researching online just bug Cindy as she was very helpful and knowledgeable about both SnugTop and Leer. The owner (Cindy's father) has over 30 years of experience, which is rare in many industry now a days. With the combination of experience, knowledge, and great customer service, I kept adding and adding more features. When I went to pick it up, they said they didn't do the work because they didn't have the part. WHY THE HECK COULDN'T THEY CALL ME TO TELL ME THIS? So I went shopping around for a hard cover for my 2013 Toyota Tacoma Sport. Look this place up and they gave free installation with yelp. Went down there found the cover I liked. Great price too. They even included the color to match my truck. On top of that the offered $50.00 or free carpet on the inside of the lid. So I ordered it I got it a week late due to Leer the manufacturer. Went in on Friday it took like an hour for the installation. But here is my problem after they did the installation I checked it out was real excited. The next day when I opened the cover I noticed a big scratch on the inside of my bed on the bedliner which was never there before. I love the cover and all but I wish they would have told me what they had done instead I had to find it out on my own. read more

I bought a new truck from a dealer down the street from LA Camper Shells and I needed it outfitted with a rack, tool box and bed slide before I shipped it to Hawaii where I live. (Things like these are generally not readily available here and are very costly to ship) Cindy and the rest of the crew took really great care of me and were really attentive to my needs. Their prices are some of the lowest (I checked around) I encountered and Cindy was "on it" when I needed these items sourced out fast. She and the rest of the team really came through for me and I've saved thousands dollars by both buying from a company on the mainland and having these items installed and hence getting a free ride to Hawaii. Well that was an absolutely lovely experience. A little tough to find with construction in the area but so worth it. Luis was super helpful. I loved that I called and could come in, same day, to have them check out the problem I was having with my bed cover closing. It turned out to be an easy fix, a little WD40 and it worked again. He could've stopped there and sent me on my satisfied way but he went the extra mile and adjusted the cover so it fit properly over the tailgate. He also tweaked and tightened a couple other spots that needed slight adjusting. I appreciated that he let me watch while he worked so I could learn a little something too (I wasn't in the garage so it wasn't a safety concern). I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back with any future issues or to get a new bed cover should we ever need one.
