It's never easy to make the decision to render the ultimate act of love for our pets. Eventually, we come face to face with that reality. Two days ago, we came to that realization for our 12 year old cocker spaniel, Teddy. Over the past few months, we watched him start his decline and helping us along the way was doctor Pershing. Her counsel and expertise were appreciated by us as Teddy showed increased signs of dementia and weight loss. In the end, Dr. Pershing was there for us on the phone and at the last goodbye to our little man. We are grateful to her for her concern for Teddy and us. Writing negative reviews is not something I typically do but felt it was important. Just like others my opinion is mixed. Some of my experience was pleasant. To begin, I moved so I called to get my pets records as it didn't make sense for me to continue to go to this hospital. Although I love Dr Shultz and Dr Laura!!! So when I called in, the person who answered was very kind and helpful. Unfortunately, one of my pet's records was missing when they sent them over. So I called again and spoke with someone else who was not helpful at all and kind of condescending at one point. I believe her name was Barbara? Also to point out the wait time to even get someone on the phone was so long that I almost gave up. Anyway, once I got her on the phone I gave the same phone number as I did my first call to look up my account. But all of a sudden I didn't exist in their system nor did my pet. Very strange... but based on her attitude it seemed as if I was bothering her. This didn't sit well with me as I needed these records for the new hospital my pets would be going to. I called back a THIRD time but got the same lovely person the first time I called. Magically my pet did exist in their system this time around. My overall experience would have been nice if it wasn't for Barbara. read more

We took our dog to be spayed here and they have a policy where they want to keep them overnight (and into the next day). We were told this but assumed if the dogs would be kept overnight that someone would be there to monitor them. This turns out to not be case and they leave the dogs completely unattended from 7:30pm until the morning. Why it makes any sense to keep dogs overnight when there is no one there to monitor them for complications is completely unclear. When pushed they just keep saying over and over again "that this is their policy" without any justification. I was so disappointed to hear this and feel like our dog would be safer home where we can monitor for any complications or issues. Right now I feel like they are holding our dog hostage against our will. I will never go back here. read more

My two cats have been going to the La Cañada Pet Clinic for the past few years. I have nothing but positive experience with every visit. Their regular doctor Pershing is warm, caring and professional. Today my cat Lia had an eye issue and they were kind to fit her into their busy schedule. Lia was seen by doctor Lara. I used to use this clinic for my three dogs, I live in La Cañada and I've been here for 20 years. I used to love this clinic, but they have changed a lot. They are so busy now that they don't have time to return calls, to give you referrals for a specialist or if your dog has some urgent medical situation happening they don't try to fit you in, they are simply too busy. I've been bringing my dog here for the past 6 years and I've had nothing but great ATTENTION, CARE and PATIENCE from all the vets but in particular Dr. Lara and as far as staff, Andrew, is my favorite! The amount of times that I've called freaking out about my now senior dog sick and Andrew guiding me with his calm demeanor along with Dr. Lara coming to the rescue has been countless! I have mixed feelings. Dr. Walker is fantastic. Like the vet of yesteryear that gave it to you straight and doesn't rip you off. But he is very hard to see. I haven't been as thrilled with the other vets. I have a burden of knowledge having worked in the business for 15 years and going to school for pre-veterinary medicine, I can be picky. I don't like every procedure (TPR) being done in back, it further traumatizes pets, but owners are out of the way. My biggest criticism is the front reception. They forget about calls, forget about you waiting for an appointment, or to check out. It's almost a joke amongst clients sitting there waiting with each other. They have too many duties, or aren't streamlined, not sure. But they shouldn't be going in back. Just manage the front. They call to see if you need a new flea prescription and that's just a waste of time and organization. Send out an auto email reminder for annual exam. Dr. Walker, work more please! read more

No more chasing rabbits in the Arroyo for Alfie! Poor guy got a big foxtail lodged in his ear canal. Thanks to the AMAZING Dr. Vanderford, he's now foxtail free! She was able to sedate this big doggie and retrieve the foxtail from his ear. I was nervous about the procedure but Dr. Vanderford made me feel comfortable by explaining things in a way I could understand. She helped ease my anxiety every step of the way. I've been to many vets but I have to say, Dr. Vanderford is the most kind, loving, and supportive vet I have ever experienced. Highly recommend this gem of a vet, she is lovely! read more

This is a difficult review to write as our vet, Dr Pershing, was wonderful to work with. Dr Pershing is patient, wonderful with the animals and a pleasure to chat with. She knows her stuff and has excellent bedside manner with her patients. Unfortunately, over the past two years nearly every front desk interaction left me feeling that I'd inconvenienced them with my business. I recently had to request my pet's records three times before receiving them. When asked why it took three requests I was told "we thought it was something else". I guess there are some requests that can be ignored. I also had to contact front desk staff twice to have a Chewy order approved. This is after Chewy had twice made contact, themselves. Staff do not provide their names and if you request their name they will only reluctantly provide it. One recently mumbled her name so badly that I had to request it a second time. She again mumbled making it clear she was not interested in providing it. The office staff do not appear organized or prepared for general questions they should obviously know. When I asked about the dog influenza reported in the news earlier in the year I was told "you can look online". Just like that. Look online. If this were my clinic I'd ensure staff had a prepared statement to read for items of concern. For my last appointment I arrived 10 minutes early so that staff would not wait on me. I was met with "staff are still at lunch" and was not seen until 20 minutes past my appointed time. Waiting beyond appointment times was very common. I recently brought my concerns to Dr Walker, the owner of the clinic. While Dr Walker listened and acknowledge a few of my concerns, nothing changed. He came across as being somewhat disconnected from his front desk staff, insistent on a few points that were simply not true. I also voiced concern over a new "restraint fee" that was never disclosed. The clinic now charges an extra $10 whenever a second tech is required to hold an animal. I have no problem paying what services are worth. Unfortunately, when questioned, neither Dr Walker nor his front desk staff felt a disclosure was required. It may not be required, but it's good business to tell your customers of policy and fee changes. I simply found it on my statement which is provided after you pay, by the way. Again, Dr Pershing is wonderful. If we could bypass the front desk to work with her, we would. Unfortunately, we're no longer willing to endure the poor customer service provided by the front desk staff. read more

I have called 3 times to get an appt and listened to a long recording before finally giving up. I have used them in the past and they were great. I have left them 3 emails trying to get an appt thru their website and have gotten no response yet I got lots of the marketing emails they send out saying how they are so willing to serve. It looks like many others are feeling the same. Instead of money marketing yourself as a professional organization why don't you hire people who will respond to the system you put in place to make appts. Some of us need to take time off from work for appts and its terrible no one responds to a simple request for an appt. Ive been bringing my 3 Dogs here for a while as well as my family pets. She absolutely has no clue what she's doing what so ever. She tells me everything is normal but ive had to make multiple visits to the Emergency room after seeing her. After voicing my concerns to her despite her saying everything is normal Ive overheard her go out and talk about me inappropriately which was very disrespectful because ive been nothing but nice even though shes been wrong a couple times. I'm puzzled by the reports of front staff being rude. So far, I have never experienced that. My pets have been able to have fairly routine appointments within a very reasonable amount of time. When my cat had an emergency, he was seen 1-1/2 hours from the time I called. It was a more expensive appointment than a routine appointment, but I expected that. It was not as expensive as an emergency clinic. Are we talking about the same clinic? I have been to some REALLY expensive clinics and this is not one of them. Again, I'm puzzled. While Dr. Woody Walker has been our Family DVM for over 15 years (2 Vizslas) his staff is not trained and constantly makes grave errors from scheduling to significant miscommunications and more. Andrew, Michael and and Chelsea have been THE WORST. Further I rang exactly at 8:00 am this morning and I'm still on hold :45 minutes - only to be informed that the office does not open until 8:30 am. When my call was picked up by Chelsea, she was rude, hostile and HUNG UP on me. There is no one in charge no administrator unless Woody Walker DVM is present. All good staff members are apparently gone ( eg Emma) and to boot the voice recording does not give you the hours of operation but does have a 4th of July preparedness alert...? We have brought our dogs here for 25 years, but since we brought our new puppy home a year ago the service has been horrible! It starts with a phone system that makes it impossible to make an appointment. After a LONG introduction they say they will call you back. Then when the system calls you back it hangs up on you. This has happened many times! When trying to talk about it with the front office staff they couldn't be bothered to even respond. The staff is so cold it's rude. It's too bad because we loved the vets there in the past. I finally just asked for a copy of our dog's medical records and am looking for a new vet. I have only been coming here for about a year now and my only complaint is the current front staff! Barbara has been so incredibly rude time and time again. Her attitude is always uncaring and her tone always harsh even on the phone. She is incredibly unwelcoming and has absolutely no patience. I have been trying to get in for an appointment for some time now and her tone always makes me regret calling. I understand if people have bad days, but for Barbara it seems that every day is a bad day. It really is a shame because I love it here. I have to concur with many of the other reviews here that this veterinarian clinic has fallen off the deep end. I've been holding off since October last year to write this review. The veterinarians are decent and have made a couple errors in the past seven years of going there for at least diagnosis serious problem. However, staff, especially Andrew is condescending, rude, and outright volatile. I have in the past been able to retrieve prescription medication without a visit for an ongoing internal digestive problem with my senior dog. However, after seven years, wanted to inform me that I do not know who you are and you are not a patient. I must be mistaken. He told me I just didn't like the answers he was giving. Regardless, we found a much much better veterinarian clinic in the same area and it turned out to be a happy accident Our vet Dr. Woody Waldron only is in one day a week and I'm not even sure that much these days so it was difficult to get care anyway If you're in Pasadena veterinarian with both the names, Pasadena and hospital in it, and you will find a great veterinarian, not an actual hospital. read more

My parents have been going here for years and never had a complaint. Unfortunately, we had a terrible first experience after moving back to La Canada. Our dog had an ear infection so I scheduled an appointment. They called to see if I could come an hour earlier that day and I was able to, so I came in only to wait the full hour I came early. The doctor saw her, cleaned her ear and then was unable to administer the medication she needed because what they had on hand had expired. So I had to schedule another appointment a week later to allow for the medication to come in. Fast forward a week, I call in advance to make sure they have it. Turns out they don't so I would have come in and been turned away. They tell me they'll call me as soon as it comes in so I can get our dogs infection healed. I call back 6 days later as I hadn't heard to see if it had come in. It had come in and no one called me. We go in the next day to have the medication administered and they're running late again. It's administered, we go home. Just an hour later I have a huge allergic reaction, my eyes get red itchy and swollen, almost had to go to ER. This was caused by the medication that was haphazardly put into our dogs ear. The medication, to this day, is literally flowing out of her ear and all over the side of her neck, but we've been instructed not to clean her ear or the medication won't work. They left no mention of caution surrounding touching our dogs ear or petting her head and it appeared as if a child administered the medication with how messy it is. We are now avoiding petting her completely and washing our hands incessantly for two weeks until the medication wears off. Overall extremely disappointed with the service, lack of communication, having expired meds, and then having a scary allergic reaction due to poor/rushed administering of medication that we found out after the fact was very unsafe to touch. read more

Thank goodness there is a local vet clinic that has not been bought out by VCA! La Canada Pet Clinic feels like home and the vets are wonderful. Our experience with well visits and emergency visits has been exceptional. They give wonderful care and never try and talk you into unnecessary tests or procedures. The vets are extraordinarily caring and personable. On our first visit with our brand new puppy, Dr. Pershing got down on the floor and displayed the most heartwarming and loving interest in our new pet. We knew right then that we had found the right place. Recently, we had to bring the same pup in for a bee sting/allergy reaction and Dr. Lara was absolutely stellar, administering the best care we could imagine. Love this place. read more

First, our frenchie LOVES coming here which we feel as dog parents says a lot. The staff here is not only always welcoming, but they're also very professional. Our primary doctor here is Dr. Pershing and WE LOVE HER! Dr. Pershing always takes the time to answer all our questions when we're there (even in some urgent situations we've emailed her with questions and she's always gotten back to us in a matter of hours despite her busy schedule), and most importantly, we have always always felt that she genuinely cares about her patients and wants to explore every avenue possible to ensure that her patients do better. We have always felt and will continue to feel that our dog is in good hands when being treated by Dr. Pershing!!!! Our only little complaint would be is that because of how all the doctors here are loved, appointments are rather difficult to make. You won't be able to make appointments to be seen that week just FYI unless there are cancellations. Expect to make appointments two weeks out which is rather annoying especially when you get increasingly concerned that an issue your pet is experiencing will become more and more grave. My entire extended family has been with this veterinary clinic for over two decades, and I have finally had it. The front desk staff is so incredibly rude, and even with our loyalty as a long-term customers, we can't get in to see a vet for at least a week every time, regardless of what is happening with our pet. I agree with many other reviews, I am constantly treated as a nuisance, and when I explained this time that our need to see our vet was rather urgent, I was told oh well, too bad, so sad. I drove 30 minutes out of the way to pick it up, and now I have to go back to work. Today was our first time at La Canada Pet clinic and we couldn't have asked for a better visit! The vet tech Chastity was so kind and gentle with our cats, who were apprehensive about being in a new place with new people. She allowed them the time to slowly come out of their carriers as they were comfortable. Then Dr. Lara came in the room and was equally kind and gentle, even sitting on the floor so the cats could approach her on their level. My puppy Benny has been seen there before by Dr Pershing and she was wonderful. I also had to take him in recently for a bout of vomiting and they were able to take him in very last minute and Dr Schultz was also amazing! It's so hard with COVID to have to get updates over the phone but she gave me very thorough information about what she thought was happening and even checked in on him twice after he came Home. We got our new puppy and made an appointment so she can get checked out. The receptionist was super friendly and answered all my questions. He gave me clear instructions for day of appointment which meant dropping off our baby puppy and getting a call back from Dr. Lara. She was extremely patient and informative as we are first time puppy owners. She was thorough in her evaluation of our puppy and made recommendations we could follow. The prices are very reasonable. The vets are great and they do thorough exams. We usually see Dr. Lara. Cost is reasonable and they don't try to sell unnecessary treatments. You will need to schedule appointments weeks in advance. It is difficult sometimes to be seen within a reasonable timeframe so if your pet needs immediate attention, you might need to go to an urgent care facility. This problem is probably not unique to this establishment. It seems that a lot of vets left California since the pandemic. read more
