Good, but pricey for the portions. The sandwich was $20 and was just the sandwich, no sides. The cornbread was $6 and a large slice, but a bit dry. Some butter on the side would have been nice. The mac and cheese was fine, but was heavier on the cheese than the mac for my taste. It was $3 for a can of Coca Cola that was cool, but not cold. Picnic benches outside were cute, some shade, but finding an available spot without bird droppings was tricky. You order on a computer screen that isn't easy to view in sunlight and they call your name when ready. Free parking structure nearby was helpful since there is limited street parking. Easily my favorite sides across all of the BBQ places I've been to. - Hot Link (2/5): Wasn't a huge fan because it wasn't spicy and was pretty dry. Great barbecue spot in North Orange County with ~8 picnic tables, open space, and music making it a family-friendly eatery. Our group of about 10 ordered family-style so we could sample a variety of items including the brisket, chicken, jalapeño hot link, pulled pork, cornbread, BBQ beans, summer salad, and mac and cheese. The standout dishes for me were the brisket which was incredibly tender, along with the cornbread and refreshing summer salad. The jalapeño cheese hot link was a bit disappointing as it was drier and more crumbly than expected. The mac and cheese also wasn't my favorite, as it reminded me a bit too much of boxed Kraft mac and cheese. The atmosphere is a major draw, especially for families with kids. Spacious outdoor setting and room for the kids to move around. There are no restrooms directly at the smokehouse, but guests can use the facilities at the nearby winery. Ample street parking available as well as a free parking structure nearby. read more

If you love real barbecue, Evan's Smokehouse is one of those places you keep coming back to. The brisket is undeniable -- perfectly smoked, incredibly tender, and full of flavor. One of my favorite ways to order it is the Austin Midnight brisket sandwich, which is absolutely incredible. My personal go-to though is the Carolina Sandwich -- pulled pork, topped with homemade coleslaw on a brioche bun. Every Bite is amazing! The coleslaw is outstanding and balances the pulled pork perfectly. Honestly, all of the meats here are fantastic. The chicken is juicy and flavorful, and the house links have such a great balance of flavor with a little bit of heat. The sides are just as memorable. The mac and cheese is as creamy as it gets, the beans have incredible flavor, and the cornbread with green chiles is so delicious. But the potato salad is a must. I order the potato salad every single time I eat here. It's one of those sides that you start craving after you've had it once. And don't leave without dessert -- Chef Evan is a pastry chef on top of being an incredible pitmaster, and the Nana pudding is the perfect finish. Beyond the food, Evan is just a genuinely great human being who really cares about his craft and the people he serves. You can taste the care in the food and feel it in the atmosphere. I was roaming around this area on a Friday's night and remember I wanted to check this place out. I found this place on my ig. They are only open on Thursday through Sunday so don't drop by any other day. I arrived around 5 PM. There are a couple of parking and you walk over to the trailer and order your food. We got 1 lbs of brisket, potatoes salad, and a pastrami sandwich. We thought the potatoes salad and the sandwich were okay. I feel like the Dijon mustard overpowered everything. Okay, so the star of the show is the brisket and this meat was smoke so well. The brisket was so tender with the perfect amount of fat. It was delicious. I am ready to go back and order this again and for everyone I know. Well done! It is like what you would get in Texas! They offer a couple of tables to eat or you can take your order to go. I'm so glad my friend hosted her Friendsgiving here and that I finally got to try Evan's Smokehouse! The ambiance is fantastic, completely outdoor seating, pet friendly, and it truly feels like a casual backyard BBQ at a friend's place. The food was simply amazing. My favorite was the pulled pork, which was incredibly flavorful and tender. We also enjoyed the brisket and baby back ribs, both of which were excellent. For sides, you really can't go wrong with the mac and cheese and the cornbread. Having traveled and eaten plenty of BBQ in Dallas, Austin, and Houston, I can confidently say this spot is just as authentic as true Texas BBQ. The only downsides were that it could use more lighting at night, it was a bit hard to see what I was eating. And I wish they were open for lunch on weekends so I could come more often. There is no service because you order from a kiosk and walk up to a truck to pickup your food, but for some reason you are prompted for a tip? Not enough shade to sit down under. Food really is not very good at all.... And the prices are outrageous considering the exceptionally small portions. This place has the smallest portions of any bbq place I've been to lately but is certainly on the high end with pricing. Pulled pork is incredibly sweet. Brisket was more than 40 percent fat and not the good kind. Sausage was very mediocre. Chili was not bad but an extremely small portion for $9.50. We drove 40 minutes to eat here, and it was definitely worth the drive! We came at 5 p.m. on a Friday, and it was very mellow with no line. We got the ribs, brisket, mac and cheese, pickles, and beans. Everything was delicious! The brisket was juicy, the ribs were falling off the bone, the mac and cheese was creamy, the beans were smoky and sweet, plus the pickles' acidity cut through all the fatty goodness. Happened to be near by and decided to place an online order for pick up. Been here a few times and tonight is the first time I've been let down by this place. If you don't live near by and are taking your food to go, i suggest you taste the meat before you leave the area. I got a mouthful of sugar in my Austin midnight sandwich. Something in the sandwich was incredibly sweet and ruined this sandwich. I'm assuming it was the meat, since it had a glossy, white cast over it. I always order the same thing so I know it's not supposed to taste like that. I'm very disappointed. It's not feasible to make a 70+ mile round trip to exchange the food. Also, I had the driest reception from the guy that fetched my order. Usually I would overlook that but given the circumstances I find it really annoying. My picky teenaged son gave high marks to both the brisket and the mac and cheese. Yes, the food was good. But customer service and taste go hand in hand at a high priced food truck. When I got there, I was the only one. I stood at the register area for over a minute waiting for the guy sitting on a chair outside the door of the food truck to look up from his phone. I had to say "excuse me" three times before he looked up, dazed. He just looked at me, didn't get up or ask how he could help. Then he started yelling, but I couldn't hear him over the blaring music. I told him twice I couldn't hear him, then someone behind me yelled " either turn down the music or come down here". He went inside and got someone else, who did come up front. They did not lower the music. I don't know if it was the ordering platform, or them, but they did not have my $55 order. After several minutes, he did go inside without saying anything to me. So I sat down. A few minutes later, he called my name and put the bag down at a table next to the dude who was not about to look up from his phone again. Two guys, zero customer service skills. Nothing spectacular. One complaint, there are limited tables with umbrella and, it could be very hot and sunny in Yorba Linda in the afternoon.
