A former co worker of mine loved tis BBQ place in Florida that operated from a trailer on the side of the road. I'm not a BBQ fan, so I never ate there, but I'll never forget a Yelp review that said, "This is the best BBQ place in a mobile home on the side of the road". It made me laugh and I teased him every time we were in Panama City. When I heard about this place inside of a gas station, I was reluctant, but when we arrived, the gas station was new, modern and clean. The taqueria was large and the menu had all of the staples you would expect in a typical family Mexican place. The special was an enchilada, tostada and rice and bean for $10. I'll repeat TEN DOLLARS. This also came with chips and salsa. I hate to say it, but this was the best Mexican food in a gas station on the side of a road anywhere. Truth is, the food was just really good and the price was unbeatable. I ended up doing something I never do, and that is double dip, after that plate, I ordered 2 tacos. I probably should have stuck with one, because the special was enough, but the flavor and price was so good, I couldn't leave without getting a bigger taste. I don't know if it was brother sister, husband and wife or father and daughter, but the man was cooking and the women was taking orders and serving. This is an area I probably get to once a year, at best, but I would not hesitate to wonder off the beaten path to return. This was some of the best Mexican food I've had in some time and more proof that too many other restaurants are over charging for far worse fare. read more

Wow! Definitely a hidden gem! The young woman at the front counter was super nice. I ordered the chicken Flautas with rice and beans. It was SO GOOD!! Their tortilla chips are house made. This place is a hidden gem located inside the Lakewood Crossing 76 Gas Station. If you are like me and miss having a local joint for authentic Cali style Mexican food, this place is for you. Excellent menu and the food is fresh and hot every time. I have had the asada tacos and the asada burrito. I'm hooked on the burrito right now. I love this place. We usually get takeout from here once a week or so, usually for lunch. I smile every time I see the Post Office clerk from across the road there with the same brilliant lunch idea. It happens frequently. :D I was super skeptical about the place when I moved up here. It's attached to a gas station, I was never quite sure when the hours were, and I didn't know if the food was going to be good. I had asked a local friend about restaurants around, since much of what we'd tried in the area was hit or miss, usually more miss than hit. He recommended La Carreta, we met for lunch so I could see what it was all about, and the rest is history. My family usually goes for burritos or enchiladas because they're delicious. We've transitioned to more of a plant-based diet, so we get the burritos without meat or the vegetarian burritos. But when we were eating meat, the meat options were great! The salsa that comes with the chips is delicious! The burritos are also super filling, so it's not always possible to eat both the burrito and the chips and salsa in one sitting. The chips are still good the next day! My only tiny complaint is that I'd sometimes like the veggies in the veggie burrito a little more well-done. But that's a "me" problem and not a problem with the food. I just like my peppers and onions to be overcooked, most folks don't. :) read more

My husband and I love coming here once a week for our tacos. The service is great and the food is good! Claudia is friendly and helpful. Everything we've tried has been good but I mostly come for the carnitas tacos. It's to the side of the gas station store so my husband goes in there too get a fountain drink as the restaurant only has bottled soda. The horchata is good too! This is, without a doubt my favorite restaurant. Everything is fresh, clean and very hometown. Caesar is there everyday except Sunday and puts his heart into every meal. I can't imagine where the other reviewers that gave this place a high rating came from, but this is THE WORST place to eat. Where do I begin? First of all, the owner/cook has zero personality and is in no way pleasant. He doesn't smile or even seem half way grateful for your business. There was no one at the front desk ready to take orders, which has been the case every time I've ever gone here. And let me say that every time I've ordered food from here I've wished I didn't. This guy is so stingy with his food. This last time I ordered super nachos at almost $10, and my husband ordered a big burrito at almost $10. Neither of which were even half way decent. My so-called "super nachos" were a sad excuse for even basic nachos. I was lucky if I found a few strings of chicken, but even worse, there were hardly any beans or cheese to speak of. What I got was a load of soggy chips. My husband's burrito was mostly filled with rice with about the equivalent of a tablespoon worth of beef. Oh, but the topper for him was a long black hair he pulled out of the burrito. That was a real stomach turner. The entire meal was pathetic and I was pissed that we spent our hard earned money at this place... AGAIN!!! Why did we go there again? Well you'd think we would have learned our lesson after the first 5 times we wasted our money there, but it was late, we were hungry, and we didn't feel like driving an extra few miles to get something else. This is THE last time I'll ever give this guy our money. La Carreta is horrid and anyone that thinks it's good is a complete moron and has no clue what REAL Mexican food is like. It's not just bad as Mexican food, but no matter how you look at it, it's garbage. You'd think the owner would compensate by at least having a nice personality and thanking his customers, but nope, he doesn't. It more like you're a bother to him by making him cook. Just the look on his face was enough to make you walk right back out of the door and head someplace else. My husband just reminded me... They charge an extra dollar to use your debit or credit card. WHAT? As if their food isn't so outrageously overpriced in the first place? This is really just a sham to make us pay for HIS lack of business. I just can't imagine that he'll be in business much longer. Or he will but he'll be hanging by a thread and broke. No wonder he's always got a nasty look on his face. Anyway, save your money. You won't get good service or good food here. It's no wonder he has hardly any business. If it were my business, I'd be greeting people with a smile, making them feel welcome, treating them like family, thanking them for their business and asking them to please come back again soon. I was very surprised to see that there was no Yelp listing/rating prior to this. A mom and pop store located inside of the Lakewood Station Shell Station, they offer an expansive menu featuring soft burritos, small and large combinations, "Especialidades de La Carreta," seafood, kids' menu, and an array of side items. I got the enchilada and 1 taco for $5.99 to-go and the order was prepared fresh and took only about 5-10 minutes. Will visit this place again for sure! read more
