The food was really good. We ordered the bean dip and enchilada meal. The salsa there is really fresh and not over the top spicy. The only disappointing thing was when they take your dishes they are rather loud when dropped them into the storage place up front. The wall murals are very nice, but one wall has a horse head sticking out of it and is creepy, even if it is plastic. The booths are spacious, and comfortable. La Careta has the worst food around. The cheese dip is always cold. The food is cold, tortilla shells are hard. Margaritas are mediocre. Service is half ass. Management doesn't care about what customers want or need. They walk around like they don't care about customers at all or ask about how things are. They are only worried about money. Had a large group, service was awful. I ordered fajitas, took an hour to get my food. When it arrived food was ok but I got no tortillas with my fajita plate. I have now eaten at both locations but the other was along time ago. My son wanted Mexican so we wanted to give this a shot. We were sat immediately in a spacious booth. Atmosphere is a typical Mexican restaurant with reds, greens, Pancho and others murals on the wall but very comfortable. I wasn't sure what to think about the food when reading other reviews. I went with the special of the night, carnitas. Very flavorful, large portion and fresh quacamole salad. 2 small pickled jalapenos added a nice touch of heat. The rice and beans were great as well. Large lime wedge and flour tortillas along for the ride. Wife went with a cheese enchilada and bean and cheese chalupa of AL a carte...she devoured them both and said she found her new favorite place. Son ordered special nachos and it was piled high. He is a picky eater and tore into it and pounded half the plate. Service was on point, drinks were always full and he was attentive. La Carreta has more than just your usual TexMex burrito, taco, etc. The Chili Verde (pork chili with green peppers) and the Pollo Mole Poblano are the best I've had. A variety of appetizer dips were all very good. This is where I take out of town guests who want Mexican. My dining companion said the margarita was very good too. I don't think I've had as bad of service at a restaurant until yesterday at the La Carreta in Summerville. My sister and I were not greeted and the first thing our waitress said was "What do yall want to drink"... no asking how my day was or even a polite hello. It is absurb to me when you are working in a tip-based environment that you would not show the least bit of customer service. We were never checked on after our food came and I had to flag our waitress down for more chips which we had been out of since before our food came. I am not one to complain but when I have personally worked in the food industry for years and recieve service like this, I believe it is something to report. Simple things should be common sense but our waitress yesterday seemed to care more about the fact that it was 4 in the afternoon and she was supposed to get off at 2 (which she was complaining about to another worker while we were right there). And after proceeding to the register the worker up front did not say one thing or ask how our food was, so I didn't not give a tip because nothing was earned in my opinion. Overall, this was my worst experience there and it saddens me the audacity of the workers there yesterday. read more

The margaritas were fantastic but the food was a little too "cookie cutter" for us. Nothing tasted home made. They didn't even have super spicy sauce or salsa when I asked for it. The dining area was clean but a look into the kitchen on the way to the restroom was a different story. The service was decent even though I didn't get all of my order. We've been coming here for 3 years with good experiences but tonight we waited close to 20 minutes for someone to bring over some cold/stale chips and salsa. Then another 20 minutes to get 2 margaritas which we ordered on the rocks with no salt. Yep they came with salted rims and the margaritas tasted salty. Then we ordered the TX fajitas (my favorite here) and when they finally got to the table the steak was in chunks about 5" x 5". WTH? My wife ordered corn tortillas which they never brought and the flour they brought out 30 minutes before our food so they were cold but we were hungry and ate them. Absolutely terrible service and cold tortillas though the fajitas themselves were hot. After this experience it will be a ling time before we return - if ever. Do yourself a favor and skip LaCarreta and search out another place. read more

I ordered a combination page with a beef tamal, burrito, and Chile relleno. It came out of the kitchen within minutes and was smothered in a brown sauce. The tamal was fine, but would have been better without the sauce. However the Chile relleno had literally 3 bites to it. When I mentioned this to my server he told me I should have ordered a different item. The manager told me the same thing. Overall the food was bland and obviously microwaved.
