Vibe: 6/10 Service: 3/10 - when we were seated, we were given a time limit of an hour 30, but it was about 50-55 mins before our food arrived Value: 3/10 La Cacio e Pepe: 6.25/10 Capitol Hill: 6.25/10 Overall: 4.9/10 (2.45/5) [To clarify our review system: 10 = we'll never have anything else as good as this in our lives (we use 10 very sparingly!) 9 = extraordinary 8 = great 7 = above average 6 = average Anything below 6 is being critical]

These pizzas are all culminated from multiple visits. Phew .. what can I say to encompass a thorough review here .. well, the service showcases a genuine passion for the food. Modifications .. faaghet about it - they take pride in their crafted menu. The seating is comfortable and typical for a cozy Roman charm on the interior. New brick veneer on the walls. Overall, I am very content, and will return !

Such a hidden gem of Washington! The ambiance is so cute and cozy, with warm lighting, open windows, and aesthetic decor. I appreciate all the little details like their unique menu booklets, fancy silverware, rose-tinted water glasses, and vibey music. Staff are so friendly. I was very pleasantly surprised by the generous portion sizes. One of the best pizzas I've had, and you can tell it's made with love. I highly recommend! Bruschetta Mix 10/10 - great portion sizes, great presentation, and uniquely delicious flavors! La Margherita della Casina 10/10

Our secret Kate was very knowledgeable and clearly trained to speak about what we question you have about the menu. There is WiFi for free. This place is next to the Ukrainian restaurant and they share a common bathroom in the back. It is hard to find with out a large sign. At night and when it is cold the umbrella tables can be seen outside. The decor and vibe reminds me of pizza spot one would find in a hype neighborhood in NYC. They play sultry jazzy blues with vocals. We were here during the Christmas season so there was a mix of Christmas jazz songs. I hate jazz but this music is very much like a lullaby for your ears. Perfect atmosphere. They have poinsettias and a Christmas tree to make Christmas lively. The owners and chefs are so sweet and when I thanked them for such a wonderful meal they were really touched. This pizza crust is like a cloud of bubbles in your mouth! The sauce was so flavorful as well. The bruschetta is like ciabatta to me. We got the one with sausage and rosemary. Very rustic and delicious I love how everything is served on a rectangular cutting board! I learned that because this is Roman style pizza that it is in this shape commonly. The flour is imported from Rome called pinsa. It is big deal to be vetted as a place who can make pizza with this flour because it is also a certain technique. As we read online someone from the pinsa comes to teach the technique and vetting the chef that they can make the pizza with the signature bubbles. Cannot wait to find more places that make pizza with pinsa flour

Overall, 3.5/5, but will bump it to a 4/5 because of our server who was really fantastic with making sure we had enough water and was very thorough with her recommendations! Four of us stopped by for dinner (pretty spontaneously with no reservations) for carb loading purposes. The only option this past Saturday evening was outdoor seating on a high top. With the cool weather (and no bugs, thank God), it was not bad, especially for someone who doesn't usually enjoy eating outdoors. Our server gave us her recs and informed us the dough is made to be digested easily. Among the four of us, we shared an appetizer and three "pinsas": SUPPLÌ ROMANI Each order comes with two sizable risotto balls that was filled with risotto, mozzarella, and other spices. Very saucy and creamy. It was deep fried very nicely. Our group enjoyed these and would recommend. LA PORCHETTA This was our only white sauce (well, no red sauce) pinsa and it is topped with pork belly, truffle olive oil, pecorino romano, and rosemary. This was our table's least favorite. The pinsa was dry and the ingredients didn't quite work well together. A couple of my friends thought the truffle was way too strong. We wouldn't recommend this pinsa, unfortunately. MARGHERITA D.O.P. +3 for prosciutto This pinsa was very saucy (maybe a bit too much because the pinsa was pretty droopy) and adding the prosciutto was a good decision. I enjoyed the fresh mozzarella and the Grana Padano shavings for extra cheesiness. This was good, and we'd recommend if you like a slightly upscale Margherita. L'AMATRICE This was definitely our group's favorite pinsa. I think they use the same red sauce as the Margherita, but there's less of it here which I preferred. The pork cheek was flavorful and they topped it generously with the pecorino romano which was kind of the highlight for me. I enjoyed the chili-infused olive oil on the pinsa. This one was solid and I'd definitely recommend. Overall, good pricing and I paid less than $24 after tax and tip. This was a successful carb loading dinner since we didn't feel bloated, nor did we food coma'ed afterwards.

I finally went to La Casina for dinner after so long trying the excellent lunch menu. It was a mixed bag. The food was wonderful overall: the butternut squash pizza was absolutely delicious, and they let us try all three variations of it in one pizza, which was such a great option. The spicy one with nduja was the standout. However, they did not disclose the upcharge for doing this when they offered it, which I would have appreciated. The potato truffle pinsa had the usual wonderful crust, but the truffle oil overpowered everything else and gave it an unpleasant flavor overall. It wasn't possible to taste any of the other ingredients, unfortunately. The dessert pinsa with Nutella and the tiramisu were both delicious (though the tiramisu wasn't as mascarpone-forward as the first wonderful time I had it, it was still serviceable), and I definitely recommend ordering either. Overall, the food was excellent and well worth a return trip, with generous portions - we left absolutely stuffed. However, the service was slow despite a largely empty restaurant, and I was also charged different prices than what was listed on the menu. I strongly dislike it when a place doesn't honor their menu's prices, and it's put me off returning because it feels like scummy behavior from someone trying to pick their customer's pocket. Give honest prices upfront and people will order without unpleasant surprises at the end of the meal. Why would you want to end on a bad impression? Or are you hoping they don't notice? Neither one speaks well of the management. All in all, I love the food and I'll certainly be back for lunch again, but I don't know now that I would take someone here for dinner based on my experience tonight. At least ordering takeout I know that I pay the price that is listed.

Three years after my initial review, I returned to La Casina for lunch with my wife and seven-year-old daughter. Speaking to the owner (a husband-wife team from Rome), I more fully understand their story and concept. I left impressed. First of all, La Casina is one of two pinsa-certified restaurants in the U.S.A. (The other is in San Francisco.) They make their pizza using the traditional Roman style where the dough is crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside al baked inside a wood-fired oven. They also source all of their ingredients directly from Italy, including their produce. The result is tasty, authentic food from Rome. To start, we had the artichoke, which was perfectly fried. The margarita pizza was a favorite of our daughter's, who said the cheese was her "new favorite." For the main course, we had their salami pizza with hot honey, cheese, red onions, and a few other ingredients. We also had their prosciutto white pizza. Everything was full of flavor and the dough is truly amazing. So tasty, light, but crispy. We're fans! To end the lunch, we had a small espresso, which came with brown sugar cubes that made the espresso pop. We'll be back! (They invited us to return and comped our meal, but did not ask us to update this review. I did that on my own.)

Everything here is just top notch. I have been here several times. The pizza is phenomenal. I had homemade potato chips that were heavenly. The Aperol Spritz is always delicious and freshly made. The customer service is outstanding too. Every single server is courteous, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I had not been in person due to the extreme heat of the summer for several weeks. The staff remembered me and greeted me warmly. Truly a pleasure from beginning to end!

We had another delicious meal here yesterday. We started with the burrata appetizer, we had it with prosciutto & it was delicious. For our pizza, we shared a Margherita with DOP. Delicious. As we were sitting at our table, we noticed a waiter delivering the fried artichoke appetizer to a table. It looked great. So we'd like to try it next time.

The makings of a fun evening - great friends and amazing food and drinks! Margherita D.O.P. La Milanese

Paccis looks like a small family owned Jersey Italian spot tucked inside a classic Capitol Hill brick home so of course you gotta try it. You and your girlfriend sit down and immediately the couple in the corner seated next to you pipes up about good timing because you just missed the sunset glaring through the window. This fella keeps flapping his jaw the whole time. Even to the elderly couple cross the room. Ok so maybe I was part of the problem but whatever. Anyway it feels like home. Oh and did I mention the couple who sat next to us after that were speaking Italian and sharing pizza and pasta? Paccis is certified FOOD: So oh yeah they serve food here too right. Let's talk about it. Me and the girlfriend love to share everything because why come to a delicious restaurant and only try one dish? Fuggedaboutit! We're sampling over here. She starts with a Hugo spritz that apparently is a "girliepop fave" which I might deserve jail time for typing those words but whatever sue me she liked the drink ok? Antipasti: We tried the eggplant fritti which was delicious. Also shared the beet salad. Also delicious. But I will say that we eat a lot of arugula salads and dry arugula even with all the toppings can be a little rough and I'd love if it was lubed up with a tiny bit of olive oil. Anyway don't hesitate to try either of these. Entrees: Buccatini alla carbonara was awesome. Creamy/cheesy, nice bite through the pasta, and that cured meat or whatever it was. We also had the chicken Marsala which was delicious but if you don't already know, don't ask how it's made so delicious because it's basically all butter and cream. Anyway pasta and sauce and chicken we're all delicious. Desert: Especially in an Italian restaurant this is almost always an automatic tiramisu for me but this time we decided to go with something different. The girlfriend loves a lemony dessert so we tried the limoncello cake. She loved it and I liked it. I would say get it if you're a lemon fan. And bada boom bada bing that's your review.
