Edible, but plenty of room for improvement in this young restaurant. We came by around 5:30 on Saturday. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. There was only one other table of people there besides us. There were a few strikes before we even had our food, unfortunately. 1. The place was way too hot. We were sat right next to the thermostat, which was at 79* when we got there, and had risen to 82* before our food came. Just too warm. They also need some music playing, it's very quiet without that in the background. 2. The chips we were served when we sat were stale. The salsa was decent, but was served in a cup so small the chip didn't fit to dip, let alone scoop. It needs a different, larger dish. 3. The menu item descriptions need some detail. I was set on trying some of the Latin dishes on the menu, but there wasn't enough information to differentiate between the dishes - it would be helpful to know how something is cooked (braised, fried, grilled, etc.) and what spices and/or sauces are used. I couldn't tell what was what, so I ended up choosing from their Mexican selection. And then, the food -- it's edible and has potential to be good, but is just lacking in flavor and seasonings. * We ordered beef empanadas as an appetizers. They were large and looked delicious, but neither the filling nor the coating seemed seasoned. * My boyfriend ordered the carnitas tacos. They came with plenty of meat (which again, lacked seasoning), and lots of cilantro and chopped onion, which we love. The side of radishes offered a good crunch, but would have been better in matchsticks rather than halves. There was a sauce served with them, which gave a nice heat, but again, not much flavor. * I ordered the one burrito, one enchilada combination plate with rice and refried beans. The burrito and enchilada were the same exact item - just flavorless shredded chicken wrapped up in a flour or corn tortilla, respectively. The red sauce was okay. As with the other food, the main part of the dish, as well as the sauce and beans, have room for improvement in the area of seasoning and flavor. I'm hoping that we can try La Choza again in a few months and see some improvements based on customer feedback. read more

Not a fan. They sell a seafood soup with imitation crab meat. Then the empanadas has no flavor. My husband ordered pork chops and they were so dry. Nothing was good in my opinion. read more

I was very excited to try a new Latin place in our area. We arrived on a Tuesday night and we were the only other table there. The inside of the restaurant is clean and beautiful, and our waitress was very good. The chips were okay and the salsa was great. The only complaint here is that the cup they serve the salsa in is about a size of shot glass and you can't dip your chip in. For our main dishes we ordered from the Mexican menu. I got chicken fajitas and my boyfriend got al pastor tacos. Both dishes lacked flavor/seasoning and my chicken was on the dry/burnt side. The corn tortillas were on point. It's a great looking restaurant but I think they definitely need to improve their dishes. Not sure if we would give it a second chance, but maybe since it's so brand new we will come back in a few months. read more

La Choza has AMAZING food. The fajita quesadillas are delicious and so is the grilled chicken w/ rice and beans. There aren't many places like this in the area so I was super excited when this popped up! All I can say is YUM! read more

The food was great! A bit overpriced compared to many other Latin restaurants I've been to. But still very good. Was surprised that I was one of 3 other tables there. Not a huge turnout. Staff was friendly, clean environment. Had the papaya juice which was fantastic. I'd go back again. Probably not as often due to pricing. But still great. read more

My husband and I love ethnic food, and we were looking for an authentic Latin American restaurant. We've been to Costa Rica, Mexico, Guatemala, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, and were intrigued by the menu at La Choza in Croydon. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals last evening!! I had the Parillada Mexicana, which was outstanding---very flavorful, excellent quality ingredients, plentiful. It was a variation on traditional fajitas, but the chorizo was deliciously crumbled and sauteed with the vegetables---not at all greasy! My husband ordered the Chaulafan Sauteed, which was a rice dish with assorted meat, chicken and seafood. Also delicious and plentiful! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and were so full that we happily brought home our leftovers. We look forward to return visits to try other dishes, including ceviche, goat stew, and many more! The restaurant is immaculate, nicely decorated, and the staff is very helpful. Don't miss La Choza--you won't be sorry!!! read more

First time eating at this place with my fiancé and the food is soooo good, I'm coming back soon.

So this is an update. The 1st time I went here I absolutely loved it, so much thst I had to go back. We went this evening. We waited 45 minutes to get our meal. When our food finally came out( I ordered some type of pork dish) I tried to cut the pork and it was super tough. I then tried to chew it and it definitely was over cooked. Basically It was an over cooked pork chopwith the bone still on it. . I told the waitress I couldn't chew it. She asked if I wanted something else but told her If its going to take another 45 minutes, I will pass. After 5 minutes the cook ( not sure if this was the owner) but he came out and asked what was wrong. I again told him I couldn't eat it its to tough. His response was I just tasted it there is nothing wrong its fine and I am charging you you whether you eat it or not. I could not believe it. Here this guy said he tasted my food. WHAT!! . I hope he was not the owner because if he is he has really poor business sense. I ended getting what I had the last time and ended up taking it to go and meanwhile he charged me for the pork dish. I will never go back there again and I will make sure that all the friends I told .... check this place out, put it on HARD pass list of restaurants read more

Please do yourself a favor and give this place a try! Delivery was free (min $10).They quoted a time and were right on. The delivery guy was cheerful and polite. We ordered their Tacos de Carnitas. They were pork tacos with cilantro lime and radishes. 3 per order. The pork was super tender, the ingredients were fresh and plentiful. They were wrapped so well that they stayed hot and moist for a while! We ordered the La Choza burrito deluxe. It hit the spot with a variety of flavors. The sauce was delicate and not heavy handed. Again, the burrito was noticeable full and generous. The rice was not over loaded with a bunch of seasoning. Very simple and light. I loved the beans. But I'm a fan of creamy and smooth. Not much texture but just the right amount of cheese sprinkled on top. We also ordered the # 5 combination. Beef burrito, beef enchilada, and a cheese quesadilla. I loved the ground beef filling and, the corn and flour tortillas were perfect. The sauces made the dishes! I'm eating the quesadilla reheated for breakfast as I'm writing this! I've been here twice with family and have ordered out once. The service has always been above and beyond. Servers go out of their way to be friendly and make sure you're having a comfortable experience. The menu is extensive and has options from several Latin American cultures; the hardest part is figuring out what to eat! Food is always delicious and portions are definitely substantial. The dining room is nicely decorated and comfortable. Sometimes they have live music as well, which is such a nice touch! I did not eat in, but the place is charming inside. And it's so nice to see a new restaurant in Croydon. I ordered takeout from the girl at the hostess stand. I got three pork tacos and shrimp quesadilla. The pork was delicious, and tasted like it had been slow roasted all day. It was very well seasoned. The green sauce that came with the tacos was deliciously spicy and really added to the flavor. The shrimp in the quesadilla were large and fresh. The only thing I was somewhat disappointed in was that there was very little cheese in the quesadilla and none on the tacos. I also got a side of chips and guacamole which I thought was little pricey for what it was. The chips seemed like they came out of a bag, nothing special and I thought that the more than $6.00 i was charged for them was more than they were worth. Overall, the food was very good and I would go back again, but I would probably skip ordering the chips and guac for a second time. read more
