This is a family owned business, located on a narrow, quaint street, that serves traditional French dishes. Stumbled my way into La Citrouille on a Friday evening. The restaurants exterior was a bit unassuming but I saw through the window the separated the down pour in the streets from what appeared to be a cozy Parisian nook was tempting. The restaurant was warm and the patrons friendly showed me to a seat. The menu had a prefix option of appetizers, main, and a dessert for around 20€. I ordered the escargot and duck confit as my app and meal. The escargot was a bit briny but delicious nonetheless. The duck came with frites and green beans. Absolutely spectacular! I duck was beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection! The frites were salted and the green beans were crisp. I ordered a bottle of house wine and shared it with my table neighbors. We all seemed to be from New York and found our way to this restaurant. The server suggested the crème brûlée for dessert and it was the best bite to finish off the meal. We searched for a place close to our hotel for dinner and came up with La Citrouille. It was busy when we arrived but there was room for us. They offer both a standard menu and a fixed price menu for a 3 course meal, for under 20 euros. That seemed low, and while we were happy with the cost, we decided the quality of the food was also low. The three adults all got the same thing, Browned Onion Soup and Beef Bourguignon. Those are two items I wanted to be sure to have while in Paris. The soup lacked a rich broth, neither salty nor sweet, I will describe it as watery. Certainly edible, the cheese was nice and stringy. After too long of a wait, the beef bourguignon arrived. I thought it was better than the soup but still lacked some flavor. The potatoes and carrots were well cooked and the beef fairly tender. The gravy was thin. Since our visit I've had much better elsewhere. For dessert I had the Crème Brulee, and that was excellent. My granddaughter ordered a well done burger that came out well done on the outside and too rare on the inside, so she just ate around the edges. The meal did run long, us Americans are always in a hurry they say, but we were successful in speeding things up at the end by getting dessert and the bill at about the same time. read more

This place is a hidden gem. I have been here three times and all three times the food was excellent. I especially like the foie gras and the duck confit. The service has always been spectacular. Definitely tourist trap. Owner was very rude. Attitude for no reason €19 for three course. Food tasted straight out from frozen bag food. Took him 20 mins to take our order purposely for no reason. . same thing happen to another table and the left and he got so maddddd. Escargot - stale taste, tasted like baking soda Foie grass is literally from a can. Preserved Duck confit - the meat is not fresh and the meat were very dry and dark . Steak arrived were half cooked and half raw. Me and another table customer had to send it back to recook. And when they gave me back my steak I realized the steak they had it cut it half in between . So from a steak they send me back a flat iron steak . i was speechless The side dish comes with frozen green beans and fries . I should of read the comment before I made the choice to come here . The place looked warm and cozy but the food was disappointing. The cheese platter was just cheese and a basket of partially stale bread that tasted like it came from supermarket. The homemade vegetable soup was tasteless, the duck was too salty in my opinion and was served with a side of the tiniest and tasteless green beans that would not even stick on the fork. The beef bourguignon was good but the potatoes and the one carrot in it lacked flavor. It was like just eating meat from the stew without anything complimenting it. Finally, the tiramisu wasn't tiramisu and consisted of a marble cake with a thick layer of cream. I was so happy to have found La Citrouille and their amazing pre fixe menu. What a deal and delicious! I got the French onion soup which had more cheese than was reasonable -- it's a meal in itself IMO. Then the beef bourguignon for the main -- tender and flavorful as expected. Ended with creme brûlée which really did top off the meal fabulously -- so creamy and right vanilla and sugar flavor. My 12 yo daughter had just a main and chose the salmon. She devoured it. Said the rice was not great but the French green beans were. I chose a white Chardonnay recommended by the host and it was perfect. Avoid. Disappointing food & service. arrived at 12:29, our dishes were only served at 13:10. The "a la carte" foie gras at 15E is exactly the same as the one included in the 19E menu. Both are low-end, not worth it. Had the frog legs, they were the saddest frog legs I have seen in a while. BLAND, no taste at all. I'm still hungry. We also had the 22E foie gras burger which had no visible foie gras / no taste of it either. The meat used for the Boeuf bourguignon was fatty & chewy. My advice: try another place. read more

We ate here twice during our stay in Paris. Not only were the workers super friendly, but they took the time to describe how each one of their more popular dishes was prepared. We opted for the pre-fix menu which is appetizer, entree and dessert for 19€ On one occasion I ordered escargot as my appetizer and I thought they were truly delicious. It arrived steaming hot, and the smell of that garlic butter was the best way to get the meal started in my opinion. My personal favorite entree here was the beef burgundy dish. It was just so perfectly executed from the incredibly tender and flavorful taste, to its charming presentation. On the other visit I had the steak frites, and the only complaint I have about that was that the steak was too chewy. The pomme frites however were probably some of the best French fries I've ever had. So, get the créeme brûlée for dessert here, they do a really good job of that. I ordered a cheese and fruit plate once it just didn't wow me. My mom one ocasión ordered the créeme caramel and she also thought the créeme brûlée was better. Apparently there is tiramisu as a dessert option as well but nobody in our party opted for it. Their house wines are ok, they start at 5€ a glass. So if I were to take away anything from our experience here it's that the food was great, and so was the service. read more

studying abroad this semester and came across this restaurant on my first day exploring the city. it was super cozy and welcoming, especially for someone eating alone. it was also my first time eating alone in the city and couldn't have been more encouraging! the food was delicious and servers were very understanding of my bad french and were patient in letting me practice which i've found is rare in paris! i tried the soupe à l'oignons and the mousse au chocolat. both were great. the place has history in the ex pat jazz scene if you're interested in that! either way the jazz music they play adds to the nice atmosphere. totally recommend and will be back! read more

We stopped here for a late dinner (by our standards) on a Friday night. The place was packed and we got the last small table for two. The place was lively and loud, a real festive atmosphere that the waiters and waitresses play up to the max to give it a real French feel. We opted for a 3 course price fix menu for 18.5 Euro, drinks not included. Our food was outstanding. I started with smoked salmon on toast. The salmon was excellent quality. The wife got foie gras (duck liver) and liked it a lot. Good start to the meal. For the main course I got beef stew and it was phenomenal. The best stew I ever had by far. There are no words to describe how delicious it was. The wife got lamb chops and said they were the best she ever had. She secretly chewed on the bones to get every last bit of flavor. For dessert, I got fresh fruit and the wife got some kind of whipped egg that was as light as air. The service was good by French standards, and we were out in 1.5 hours. I would like to address the previous comment by a Yelper to avoid this place because it is a "tourist trap." I have three things to say. 1. We've been in Paris a week now and I've noticed that all of Paris is a tourist trap, but that doesn't mean you should not come here. 2. The only issue for this restaurant (or any other) is whether the food and service are good. If so, who cares whether there are tourists or not? 3. Iconic sights such as Notre Dame, Eiffel Tower, and Louvre are also "tourist traps" but that does not mean a person should not visit. If your only concern is to avoid tourists, then Paris is not the city for you. There are tourists from dozens of countries and you will hear many different languages on the street every day. The menu was different (and at least three euro more) for their non-French guests. The food was bland and made with the poorest ingredients. French food in America far exceeds the quality of this food. The waiters served their awful table wine with a fake smile plastered on their faces. The decor is cheesy and strange. I hate to break it to you, Paris, but there is a whole new type of tourists that is flooding your lovely city - Americans with good taste, Americans who have traveled the world and sampled amazing cuisine at reasonable prices. I came here at least three times during my trip to Paris this past summer. Discovered it one day after smelling the most amazing food under my apartment and decided to try it out. I was extremely surprised! The food here was great and the service was even better. I was the only English speaker in a group of native French and they treated me no different. I've felt very stupid multiple times while trying to order food at other places throughout France but they really made me feel at home here. Servers speak Great English and were very welcoming. They have this adorable little kitten that roams the restaurant and hugs up on your leg as you eat and I loved it! Will definitely be coming back here every summer when I come back to Paris! We have been to Paris on numerous occasions and have stayed in the St. Germaine area but somehow have never been to this delightful restaurant. We are visiting with friends from the UK and they are staying a couple of door down so we stopped in for dinner tonight. All 4 of us are not French foodies but we do appreciate a good meal. We got the prix fixe, 18.50 euro per person which was a bargain and it had so many choices for appetizers, entrees and dessert. Of course drinks were extra but the carafe of water was refilled many times for us. 3 of us got the onion soup which was delicious! Hubby got the mussels with Roquefort and was expecting an appetizer portion. However what he got was easily what we have had as an entrée portion at other restaurants. C'est bonne! 2 of us had the chateaubriand and 2 had the lamb chops. All plates came with nicely roasted potatoes, Haricots verts, a delicious ratatouille of some kind and all the bread one would want. Desserts were crème brulee and peach melba. We will definitely eat there again before our vacation has ended. We commented that there were other things we wanted to try. Service was great, the restaurant was filled to capacity and the only negative would be that it was a little warm inside. It was a hot day in Paris and though it cooled down outside, inside was a little warm. The overhead fans could have been turned on and that would have been nice. The chateaubriand was "ok" and not the best cut of meat but it came with frites and green beans and was a large portion. The tiramisu for dessert was to die for. Seeing the favorable reviews both here and elsewhere we thought we'd be making a good choice. Also we had walked by a few times and seen how busy they were which we assumed would be a good sign too. It turned out that our expectations were too high. Personally we thought the food to be okay for one of us while the other thought it was exceptionally poor. We chose their prix fixe menu for €19.50 with two glasses of wine (not included in prix fixe price). My son chose the fish soup, salmon filet, and chocolate mousse. I chose the onion soup, chateaubriand, and baba a rhum. Also strangely enough they didn't even offer us bread as is the custom. FYI, these set meals both came accompanied by sliced green beans and a starch. Seemed like the French version of Denny's. My son found his choices to be good although the mousse was dense instead of being light. However, none of my choices were any good. The onion soup was like how another reviewer described the broth as being in water. They did not use beef stock and worse neglected to caramelize the onions which are two basic steps that are necessary to prepare a good onion soup. Next the chateaubriand arrived folded and worse half was raw. I know that in Europe the beef is served medium rare but this was just seared lightly on the exterior with the interior totally raw; even with the steak knife I was unable to cut it as it was raw. Therefore, I couldn't eat that half. Thinking that at least the baba a rum would make up for the first two horribly prepared courses, well, unfortunately for me I was wrong. This was the nastiest baba a rhum I have ever eaten. Firstly the pastry was like a stale brioche dough that was soaked for at least a few days definitely in the rum. Then at its serving the waiter sprayed a line of whipped cream on it. The dough was so stale it tasted dry even though it was soaked in rum. The two waiters were not even the friendly sort nor cared if the food was left back. It seemed as if this place was highly touristy although some locals did dine here too. But due to the former I feel that no real effort went into cooking proper traditional French food. read more

I do not know if the gentleman who waited on us was the owner, but he spoke excellent English, he knew what celiac disease was, and he made sure I had gluten free meals. My husband has no dietary restrictions, and both of us thought our meals were delicious, and I had no ill effects. That is why we returned. I realize this is not a "5 star" restaurant by review standards, but we have eaten in a number of highly touted expensive restaurants in the U.S., and this food was just as good at a fraction of the price. This was one of three places where we dined on this street. There are so many restaurants, I do not know how they all survive. The menu was posted outside the door, and we did not notice anyone getting a separate menu or price. This restaurant is tucked away on a tiny street, Rue Gregoire de Tours, on the Left Bank. What makes this restaurant stand out is the amazing value - the price is incredible considering the wonderful food. A 3-course meal is very reasonably priced, but the onion tart for the starter, the salmon in dill sauce for dinner and the chocolate cake with vanilla sauce could have been served in the most expensive restaurant in the States. Love it! I come to Paris every year, sometimes for business, sometimes just because I love it. I always try new restaurants but I always end up coming back here for at least 2 of my nights in town. read more
