Rice and beans
danelle b.

Was visiting and my friend said let's do Mexican. I'm always down for Mexican so we went to La Cocina. I asked her what she normally gets and she said she has never had a bad meal here. I decided to try the ACP ultimate, which had steak, chicken and shrimp with cheese. At her suggestion I got the cheese on the side because she said it's too much. I should've got it on the plate, not sure if they skimped because it was on the side but it wasn't enough. It was however plenty of food(meat) I could've done with less meat and more rice; especially since the steak was over cooked and dry. The shrimp was cooked nicely and the chicken was mixed with some dry and some fresh. My fried deciders on the birria tacos and said she takes back about everything being good. I have never seen birria tacos look so pale and no consommé. She ended up eating the meat out of the flour tortillas. It's a nice place, I would give them one more try if I'm in the area. Our waiter Kelvin was so nice and attentive.

Recently we had La Cocina last minute for take out in hopes it would satisfy our craving. I've had them before but tonight I felt like they were off. The chips tasted a little aged and I'm big on tortilla chips. The service I can't really speak on because again the food was a pick up order. Ambiance I can't really say too much about either, I was just a bit disappointed in our food that night. I'm going to give them another try but probably not as a take out order.

If there was an option to leave zero stars I would do that for this experience. We were barely greeted walking inside the restaurant. Our server was incredibly rude. We ordered our food and she brought us a side of something we didn't order. Then proceeded to become upset when I mentioned it to her. She never asked us if we needed anything else or how the food was. My daughters ACP looked like it was still raw. Rice was hard and dry. So we paid and left it on the table. We will not be back, there are several other Mexican restaurants in Burlington we prefer where we are treated with kindness.

Chicken Enchilada, beef taco & tostada combo

One of my go-to spots to meet my parents for dinner who live in Durham since I live in Greensboro! Favorite Mexican restaurant in Burlington and easy access right off Huffman Mill road plus plenty of parking being connected to the old mall. Service is always great and the food is too!! Their salsa isn't too thick, could probably use a little more chunky tomato's or onions but still tasty and pro tip - we always ask for pico de Gallo on the side to add and it's always super fresh! Plus have a hot salsa option that's definitely fire to your mouth! I always get one of their combos (I prefer their beef or cheese over their shredded chicken)or chicken fajitas and my mom loves their shrimp dishes or good ol' enchilada and taco combo. My dad loves their different big burritos! They treat you like family when you come, always willing to accommodate your order and are always on top of their stuff when it comes to keeping your chips & salsa and drinks filled!! Plus they have a great patio section out front offering outdoor seating (which allows me to bring my Yorkie so she can see her grandparents!)

There is food on a fork and it's not washed

The food was good and some of the waiters where nice but there was food on a fork but then there was a waitress and she was bitchy and mean and not good at her job she had a marijuana leaf mask and it's the worst experience I have had there

Me and a girlfriend came here for lunch after we spent all morning dress shopping. Nothing special about this place. They have outdoor seating. Our waiter seemed to be preoccupied while helping us, nor did he check on us but once. Food was good, beer was better. I will come back here but if I find somewhere else close by I'd probably go there first

Beef taco with chicken quesadilla

My wife and I usually eat at San Marcos decided to come here today. Best chicken quesadilla I've ever had. Service was fast friendly very clean. Portion size generous and lunch runs around $7. We ate outside and our waiter probably checked on us at least 10 times. I've had to amend my review due to a cardinal sin we experienced on our next visit. On either side of us, people broke out cigarettes and started smoking. Evidently, they have the right to do this in North Carolina. My wife said, "Just finish your food inside." So I have to pick up my half eaten food and carry it inside? I pushed away and left. She yelled at me for "making a scene." But she's never suggested we return. She didn't like the smoking either.

Margarita

I came here strictly for the drinks and I was super impressed. The frozen margarita pitcher was 22.50 and two cups in, i was definitely tipsy. I ended up ordering a steak quesadilla. It was great! I will definitely be back in the future. Great prices and a nice crowd at the bar.

Good drinking spot. Food can be hit or miss, but with the cheap prices I'll take the few misses.

Great service tonight. Everyone in our family has their favorites at La Cocina. We always start with the bean dip.

Long time customer. Food is always great but it does upset me that they keep raising the prices.

By far my favorite Mexican place. Staff even knows what I want to order before I tell them! Very family friendly.

You can choose to sit at the bar, at a golf station, or at one of the regular tables if you'd rather just enjoy a meal. I had the Coconut Margarita, which was really good, and my friend ordered the Pornstar Martini, which she also enjoyed. For food, I got the Smash Burger -- a good-sized, filling burger with a generous portion of fries. My friend ordered a side of fries (also a good portion) and Shrimp Tacos with Brussels Sprouts. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The digital golfing experience was a lot of fun! We didn't realize at first that you could switch from competitive mode to a more relaxed, Topgolf-style mode -- so definitely ask the staff to help you change it before starting if you want a more chill game. There are only two digital golfing stations, so on busy nights, make sure you plan ahead or arrive early if you want to play without waiting. Kim was very kind and helpful during our visit. Overall, Martini Golf & Sports Lounge is a great spot to bring family during the day or hang out with friends at night -- whether for food, drinks, or some digital golfing fun.

This time I decided to keep things a little more Atkins/keto friendly and ordered a grilled chicken salad and a cup of chili. The total came to just over $26, with the salad alone costing almost $17. I understand prices have gone up everywhere. I can accept that. What I can't accept is paying premium prices while the overall experience falls short. The first issue started before I even got inside. The restaurant was packed, and customers were parked all along the curb directly in front of the designated to go pickup area. That completely blocked access. It took me nearly ten minutes of circling the parking lot, backing up near the dumpster, moving again, and eventually squeezing my truck into a parking space (in the "to-go" pick up area where I'm supposed to be anyway) just to pick up my order. When you're that busy, parking becomes part of the customer experience. At some point management needs to step in and help keep traffic moving instead of allowing the pickup area to become unusable (don't tell me I'm wrong because I'll tell you what not only did. I have to navigate that situation due to cars being along the curb in front of the to go area, but two other vehicles that were parked in the to go spaces had nobody in them and I was there for 10 minutes waiting for my food so those people were inside eating in the restaurant I presume-given that I observed their empty vehicles for a total of 20 minutes). To be fair, the employee who brought my order out was excellent. She greeted me with a smile, was friendly, professional, and was easily the brightest part of the entire experience. Then I got home and opened the salad. For $17, this was honestly disappointing. The chicken, bacon, and toppings had simply been simply tossed in there, while the rest was mostly plain, sad looking lettuce. It looked rushed and careless, especially considering the price. The first of several photos are exactly how the salad looked the moment I opened the container on my kitchen counter. I hadn't touched it or moved anything around. The last photo, however, my awesome lady was able to turn that same salad into something amazing in just a couple of minutes. SHE chopped up some pepperoni that we already had in the refrigerator, diced a little Colby Jack cheese, added tomatoes, mixed everything together, and finished it with ranch dressing and a level 10 appearance on the plate. She didn't have to cook anything. She simply took the time to prepare it the way a $17 salad probably should have looked when it left the restaurant. The chili was good, and I'll absolutely give credit where it's due. Drake's still has menu items I enjoy, and I've had plenty of good meals there over the years. But when you're charging premium prices, customers deserve the same level of quality whether the restaurant is half full or packed to the walls. Being busy explains delays. It doesn't excuse lowering the standard. I genuinely hope Drake's takes this as constructive feedback because I know they can do better. I've seen them do better!
