Authentic Spanish Cuisine. I was craving something I've never tried before so I looked on Yelp and seen this restaurant and said "Why not?". I had ordered for takeout but the service was still friendly. Felt like a family owned business walking in. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy. Definitely a place where I'll be coming back to. Lastly, the food was delicious. I ordered two steak tacos with avocado, a chicken pupusa and a chicken empanada. Honestly may be my "Go To Order" when I eat there. I have bad experience with los chiuelos one . I place in more than to be delivered and when I received my order. It was missing a couple things. I call to the restaurant prom and when I explain to the manager what happened? He got so defensive and tell me if you want to come in here and get forever. You miss. A solid taqueria with more than ample seating compared to most taquerias. I went with a couple of tacos, a Pastor and Asada, with a side of beans/rice. The Pastor was the clear winner with perfectly seasoned pork that exploded with flavors! The Asada was quite good, a quality steak indeed, but just didn't compare to the Pastor taco! The tortillas are homemade and excellent in quality and taste! I also sampled the pork pupusas which were excellent in taste, but were not filled with a lot of meat and cheese as most pupusas seem to be. All said, this was a pleasant experience that certainly warrants your visit for real Mexican for which I so admire! read more

Went back for the first time since February and it's as good as it has ever been. Easily the best Mexican place in the Triad and Triangle. You will never go wrong with their shrimp dishes -- aguachile, arroz con camarones, camarones a la diabla, empanadas de camaron, ceviche de camaron and even the shrimp burrito. Recent favorites of mine also include their marinated beef soup and their tacos de albanil (chorizo and beef). Further their tacos ahogados and chile relleno are always amazing. read more

Completely unassuming from the outside. They had the best horchata in a huge mug. The tacos are $1 and so good. The chorizo Sope will bring me back again. "Authentic Mexican/ Central American in a Burlington strip" This tiny hole-in-the-wall place is quite unassuming, but having both visited Mexico (well outside touristy areas) and living in Durham (which is blessed with TONS of great Mexican restaurants), I assure you this is the real deal. Setting: This is a combination store/ restaurant. The building is old and a bit run down, but the interior of the restaurant was clean. There's a TV playing shows in the background, and there are long tables (good for mid-to-large sized groups). We got menus at our table to order but paid at a cash register before exiting. Service: Excellent. Very warm and friendly, and patient even though we took a long time to decide what to order. We also got chips and a very flavorful albeit quite mild salsa to snack on as we awaited our dishes. Selection: Menus are in some of the pictures online. They have typical tacos, burritos, empanadas, fajitas, etc. They also have dishes like arroz con pollo (ACP) as well as variants thereof. And there are lots of meat dishes. I was impressed that they had multiple vegetarian or vegan options (even though I'm neither). There's also a kids' meal. Portions: BIG. I ordered the vegan burrito (sounded good with the bell peppers/ tomatoes/ avocado) and a cheese pupusa. I also ordered a horchata to drink. My daughter got the super nachos with chicken. The burrito was huge despite costing less than $6. The pupusa was a typical side (served with slaw, as traditional). The horchata came in a GIANT stein of a mug. Quality: We were all very happy with our dishes. The pupusa was middle-of-the-road (not as good as El Cuscatleco in Durham but better than other places). The burrito was great. The horchata may have been the best I've ever had. And my daughter was VERY happy with her nachos. Value: This place was surprisingly inexpensive. Two thumbs up for that. Synopsis: While I wouldn't drive the 45 minutes from Durham just to eat here, I'd very happily go there when in the area. Very good food, inexpensive, and traditional. Boy am I thankful for the Yelp app on my phone, I would have never known this place existed without it. I was sittin' at the Tire Center gettin' some work done on my truck, browsing on Yelp to see where I would go for lunch when I discovered this little jewel nearby. I've passed by it a bunch of times & never saw it. It's in a shopping center about a block off the main drag (Church St.), hard to see as there is really no big sign letting you know it's there. There is a small wooden sign by the road, but it's barely noticeable if you're not looking for it. There is a little Mexican market with a food truck that sits in front of this shopping center that pretty much makes it out of sight when riding by. This is a great little place for some good authentic Mexican food. I tried the chicken & asada tacos & my favorite little Mexican treasure, a chorizo sopes. The tacos were excellent, corn tortillas topped with fresh cilantro & onions, served with radish slices & a lime wedge along with there red & green sauces, both sauces bring some good heat & spiciness. The chorizo sopes was outstanding as well, the chorizo has great flavor & spiciness & there was a good amount piled on that little sopes. I also grabbed a bottle of Sidrel Mundet (apple flavored Mexican soda pop) from the cooler, it was a very good drink, tasted just like a fizzy apple cider. They have a row of drink coolers that has a good variety of Mexican drinks along with some of your American usuals. Along with being a taqueria/restaurant, it's also a small market, with all the merchandise along the outer walls, with all the tables & chairs in middle of the place & a big screen TV on one wall which was showing a Mexican soap opera, in Spanish of course, while I was in there. I saw one cooler that had some produce in it & saw a big selection of Mexican candies near the checkout counter. We made the mistake of ordering way too much food, the portions are large (especially the burritos and entrees). But, it was all so good that we ate it all! Here's a few highlights: 1) Guacamole was very good, had a lot of tomatoes and cilantro. Well seasoned and fresh ingredients. 2) Homemade corn tortillas. Yes. Get some of these, worth it. 3) Loved the popeye burrito. It was enormous, definitely not appetizer size. Hands down the best authentic Mexican food. So many choices, I had shrimp ceviche, and my husband had a combo of chili relleno, and enchilada. The portions are hearty, and the staff are kind, polite, and efficient. I will be going there again, and again. We ended up taking three more dinner home. My son got the burritos which he said tasted exactually like the burritos in Mexico when he visited there. Great little authentic taqueria in a strip mall that sits just off South Church St. It has a dozen or so tables and pleasant staff that speak English well. I had a couple of the lengua tacos which came street style with onions, cilantro and radish. The tongue was in larger chunks than most places, grilled until crispy outside and soft inside. Kind of reminded me of eating liver pudding as a child. The salsa picate was smoky and hot, perfect for the mild, slightly gamey taste of the meat. I also tried one of the pupusas with chorizo. This was a slightly thicker version than ones from the nearby food truck. It was grilled to a nice crisp exterior and had good corn flavor with the traditional spicy, slightly greasy Mexican chorizo crumbles inside. It came with it's own hot sauce and the pickled cabbage slaw that's typical of the Guatemalan style. My Mom had her usual gringo quesadilla and it was very large, well stuffed with chicken and cheese. It will suffice for those less adventurous souls in your party. Besides being a taqueria, it's also a market with food, candy, drinks and various oddities. Take a few minutes and look around, you might come home with a new hot sauce, Coke made with real sugar instead of HFCS and some interesting candy treats like we did. read more

This was my first trip to Taqueria Aztlan, but it certainly won't be my last. I'm guilty of seeking out places that offer something different and this is no exception. Taqueria Aztlan is a small Latino grocery store with tables in the middle and also serves as a restaurant. What it lacks in decor it more than makes up for in flavor and value. I tried the papusas which have become a favorite of mine after visiting some El Salvadoran places. The papusas did not disappoint! I also tried an empanada. I've never had an empanada before but this was really excellent, flaky flavorful pastry filled with savory chicken etc... I also ordered a chicken taco and while this was the least adventurous part of my order it was a real surprise! They make their tortillas fresh... when you order them! I don't know if you've ever had the pleasure of eating a fresh corn tortilla... but it is worlds apart from what we're used to around here. The sauce they offered up was really fantastic. I was familiar with salsa verde, but this has its own special kick and flavor. I also got a cup of an orange colored hot sauce that was even hotter and that was a nice change from the relatively mild stuff you find and most Mexican restaurants. read more

This is a small place in a hidden strip mall. If not for yelp/gps I would not have found the place. It is a mom n pop kind of store cum food joint. Initially I was hesitant to try here. But I went there with colleages for lunch and had to get back to work fast. It was not a bad place at all. We ordered Tacos, Burrito and Enchilada. They all tasted decent for the money we paid. In town for baseball and learned about this place on Yelp. It's a mile from the Burlington Royals Stadium. Would never have found it without my GPS and still had to look twice. I'm glad I did. Authentic Mexican food is wonderful! Ordered the avocado salad, taco, cheese enchilada, and beans. Never had better. Got the flan for dessert. The restaurant also sells Mexican grocery items. I even bought a big jar of Apple Hawthorn and some hot sauce to take home. The food is great, the staff is nice and friendly, and the prices are more than reasonable.
