One served with a single piece that was visually appealing, they other two were compared of 2 or 3 pieces to maker up they portion. Been going to La Collina for a few years and it's always been great. We went last night and were very disappointed. Low quality, flavorless, and one dish had a chunk of hard plastic in it. Had a little hesitation making an Easter brunch reservation here based on the mixed reviews... but was SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! We had such a lovely experience from the instant we walked into the door we were met with exceptional service. For appetizers we ordered calamari and sausage with broccoli rabe. Both were so tasty! For lunch we ordered the chicken parm, and two specials - one with halibut and crab with linguini and the other with lobster and sacchetti pasta with a pesto sauce. We got a cheesecake and chocolate cake to finish. We took a lot to go and even re-heated the food was amazing. I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from on this place but we had an amazing experience and we even brought our 19 month old daughter and they were so good to her. Finally stopped in La Collina after many years driving past on Schuylkill Expressway. The ambiance is lovely with a live singer and piano player near the bar when we entered. We were seated promptly, it is highly suggested a reservation be made which we did. I ordered the seafood risotto and my husband ordered the veal parm. Both were generous portions and tasty. Be mindful there is only valet parking, with little street parking nearby. Given we aren't the valet types we opted to park a few blocks away and walk down. Hadn't been to La Collina in years. Was there with friends the other night. It was pleasant. My friends and I all had different entrees and we all felt the food was average. I had the linguine and clams. There was so much garlic! It was cut in slivers so I was able to pick a lot of it out. It was a week night, and the restaurant was not very busy. The food came quickly, but I attribute that to the small number of diners. Unfortunately, the server cleared plates when some were still eating, one of my pet peeves. Valet parking is nice. While I don't frequent La Collina on a usual basis, I stopped off tonight with a few family members. We came in at 6:30 PM, but we had a 7:00 PM reservation. However, the host was very kind and seated us a bit early. Soon after that, our waiter, Mike came over. Throughout the entire dinner he was very polite, professional and courteous. Mike started off being bringing us a variety of quick starters including an Italian style bread, peppers and eggplant. They were all very fresh and tasty. At the same time that the bread and vegetables came out, we ordered our drinks. I got a ginger splash with a Maraschino cherry. Eventually, we ordered our appetizers. I got the calamari and also had a little of the minestrone soup. The calamari was pretty good. It was nicely grilled though it was a little hard. The minestrone soup was nice as well. It had fresh, tasty vegetables. We then had our entrees. I got an absolutely excellent ribeye steak! The steak was moist, full of flavor and was tender. It also had a great side of potatoes and some other vegetables. Finally, it was time for dessert. Mike brought out a giant cart full of fresh desserts including chocolate and vanilla cakes, cannolis and fresh berries. I decided to get the vanilla cake. It came out very fast with a nice side of strawberries and chocolate shavings on the side of the icing. The cake itself was solid, but not spectacular especially compare to other nice restaurants in the area. Looking back on it now, I wish I went with the cannoli. Also, many other reviews complain about the price of La Collina. I will say it is expensive, but for the quality of the food, wait staff and ambiance, it is very good. Speaking of the ambiance, La Collina is just great. The view of the Schuylkill River is absolutely amazing as well. Also, La Collina has complimentary valet, which is great. The valet worker remembered my car perfectly and was very personable. Altogether, I had a great experience at La Collina. The wait staff, ambiance and food made the experience worthwhile! read more

The type of place you spend $50+ for a salad and entree and leave hungry. Don't get me wrong- the ambience was classy and romantic, with a typical "Old-school fancy Italian restaurant" vibe, but the food was bland, visually revolting (see pictures of "Veal Royale" I've attached - it came with 2 teaspoons MAX of crab meat, along with a veal so tough I had to cut it up in small pieces to bear it for purely nutritional purposes. They were adorned with a white gravy that tasted like the kind you'd get in a packet from boxed mashed potatoes.) and not filling (for the "filling" price you pay). The saving grace of the meal was the mango habanero whiskey cocktail I got (fanTASTICO!) and the employees there being so cordial, friendly, and attentive. Finally, you are greeted in the small parking lot by a MANDATORY valet driver who drives your car all but twenty feet to a spot within sight. I get what they're trying to do: park the most expensive, gaudy cars near the front entrance door to appear *even* classier, but I think it should be optional and leave it for the old Italian men who dine and care about that kind of thing. read more

I've heard/known about this restaurant for years, but just went for lunch today for the first time. Totally underwhelmed by the food & overwhelmed by the pricing for the food. I had chicken marsala, which was good but not presented well at all! Slabs of chicken on a plate, covered in brown sauce with some mushrooms (also brown). That's it. No vegetables or potatoes or anything to accompany it--not even a garnish! They couldn't put a sprig of parsley or a twisted half-slice of lemon or orange for color?? Also the butter served with the bread was cold & hard to spread. And mid-way through the meal suddenly too-loud pop music was turned on--not even Italian or classical. The Waiter Carmen was a gentleman and extremely patient. My elderly Mother was terribly late on a Sunday night and held the restaurant open past it's closing time. The ambiance is superior. The wait staff is excellent, but very over extended. And someone in the kitchen should find another line of work. My osso bucco was so badly cooked that the bone was blackened, the meat scorched. It was drowned in sauce thickened with tomato to mask the problem but just tasted burned. I ate some and left most on the plate. The waiter was so rushed that there was no sense trying to talk to him. We just paid and left. It's an insult to a customer and the restaurant owner to plate a dish that one knows is bad. It's wrong headed to not remove it from the menu and accept the day's foot cost. The waiter was very nice and accommodating but the kitchen staff is incompetent. We ordered the Mozzarella in Carozza and the cheese on the inside was completely frozen. We asked if they could fix it thinking we would get a fresh plate but they microwaved the plate and served the dish with half eaten food. I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo which was bland and needed a lot of salt and pepper. My partner ordered Linguine con Pesce and there was not that much seafood for the cost of the dish. This is one of our favorite spots to it in the Philadelphia area. One of the things we love about this restaurant is that it has just an authentic/old school vibe. It makes me feel like I am in the movie, "Goodfellas." You can sit in the restaurant and just watch people walk in with big fur coats and suits...it's the benefit of a swanky restaurant without having to be in center city. While their dining room is a bit more formal, they have a nice (and large) wrap around bar area with TVs for a more relaxed dining experience. Their servers are all extremely professional, and I would find it hard pressed to not find something you like on the menu. One of our favorite aspects about the meal was the desserts, purely because they role it out on a huge cart so you can visualize all of the options as they explain them. Will not return. Service is so poor. Waiter got an order wrong and then we waited at least 15 mins with no further communication. Our wine glasses were empty and he was no where to be found. When he finally brought the corrected dish, he dropped it and ran. When we got the bill, every single item was $3 or $4 dollars more than it was on the menu. We dined in last Saturday for our anniversary. We got there around 5pm and were the only ones in the restaurant until close to 6pm! We started with drinks and they brought out bread, butter, peppers and eggplant. The bread was very soft and the peppers were delicious! We each had a salad, I went with the Gorgonzola hearts and my companion had the Collina salad. There are no descriptions on the menu so you kind of "get what you get and don't get upset." They were a highlight of the meal though! We shared the chicken parm and penne vodka. The chicken parm tasted very oily. The penne was super rich so I am glad we shared. To finish we had the cannoli cake which was clearly just removed from the freezer as it was a bit icy. But overall not bad. read more

In Philadelphia, you can't swing a cat (not that I'm advocating or suggesting that you do) without finding incredible Italian food! La Collina is one of those places right outside of the City, that is worth the drive to this Belmont Hills gem just off the Expressway. I went here for the first time about twenty years ago with some of my cousins; all Italian and most (not me) among the fussiest, almost snobbish eaters when it comes to good Italian food. Once the food started coming, WE DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE! We were transformed back to Grammy's house on any given Sunday afternoon! They started us off with roasted peppers, olives and some cheeses...and of course bread that was to die for...God forbid we'd have to! Ya know? Anyway, the food was great. The people incredibly warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is priceless. Now if you were looking for a review that's more elaborate or funny, then let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, but you'd want funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown? Like this review should amuse you? Do I need to make you laugh? I'm here to amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? Go here and enjoy yourself. Stay a long time. my friend had her wedding here. valet was high or something and damaged about 4 vehicles that I seen. I guess there's newer owners because my friends been coming here for years which is why she chose it. They were unaccommodating, had zero communication. Making up drink prices, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic. The whole bar situation was just strange, three bartenders and you had one like, 6 foot area where people had to stand to be served? They were still allowing customers into a private event, recording guests because the cops were called by other guests regarding the damage to their cars. a very strange experience, food was good but I would never come here again lol read more

This place was absolutely terrible. From the portion sizes of the food to the overpriced subpar drinks. 4+ cars were crashed into the guardrails causing damage to the vehicle by the valet. Mandatory valet atop a steep incline. Efficient coat check. Elaborate table set up with perfect views of the dirty river. Attentive server. It was fun to feel fancy for a night. Arrived with a party of six earlier this month, and we all left happy and stuffed. I chose the Moscato and it was quite pretty/fantastic. Especially the pretty part, though. (See attached photo!) My entree, the chicken parm, was also top-notch. But the stand out of the night? Blueberry velvet cake. That's apparently food. Really, really good food. So good that I was depressed leaving a small bit and some of the icing due to a lack of stomach space. I can still taste it -- it was that good. Sigh. They should sell that stuff in supermarkets. Took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day. Servers were one of the kind, even though ours reminded me of someone I actually knew. LOL Chicken Parmigiana could've used more pasta underneath it, as I was trying to match my bites up with some pasta. Taste was great. Spaghetti bolognese - Needed more salt. The beef was fine and almost dissolved in your mouth. My girlfriend couldn't get a solid twirl of noodles. Great serving sizes for the price, I left very full. Dessert - I was steered the WRONG way for my dessert choice and went with the monfilefogill type thing instead of the classic tiramisu. Ashamed of myself, but it was still good. Enjoy!! read more

If overpriced cheap "Americanized" Italian food is your go to, this should be your staple. I should have known it would go down hill when I got charged $16 for a 4oz pour of cheap Chardonnay. Sadly that wasn't the worst of it. Over booked and understaffed, we waited 20 mins after our reservation to be sat (busy Saturday night, I can understand). We were crammed into a small side table on the opposite side of the bar feet from a horrendous piano "singer" meowing out the melody's of phantom of the opera an failed attempts of trying to perform Opera songs. The service was non existent, to which I do not blame the server as it was evident he got sat 6 tables all at once. After being greeted it took another 20 minutes to get our drink and food orders in. Fritto Misto was our appetizer of choice which came out bland with an old sauce that had left over calamari floating around (I am hoping it was in the sauce in the kitchen not reused sauce from another plate). Our drinks came conveniently after our appetizer. Dinner followed shortly after and what a disappointment. I ordered Risotto with mushrooms which in a competition with Kraft mac and cheese it would surely loose. Once again bland over cooked rice and so much cheese one wonders what they were hiding. My partner ordered linguini con vongole which according to him had enough sand in the clams he could build a sand castle. Once finished we waited another 10-15 minutes for our server to show up with the check. If I could give 0 stars I would, maybe even negative stars at this point. This is an old school Italian restaurant. The vibe is great . As to the food, it was just ok. We had the Collina salad and it was good but pricey for what it was. The chicken Marsala was not tender and the sauce was decent but not as good as it could have been. When I make a Marsala, I pound the chicken and I just felt like this dish did not even come close to my own version. For dessert , I had a coconut cake. It was not homemade and was also not real inspiring. With all the Italian restaurants around, I would not rush back. But it was a pleasant night overall. read more

I'm here visiting dear friends from NYC. The appetizers started off well and things went downhill after that. I sat w an empty wine glass for at least 30 minutes, no water refills only to then learn, after waiting an hour for our entrees, that they no longer had flounder and were pushing salmon. we asked for menus and no one returned.
