My daughter and I wanted to check this place out after our it was highly recommended by a friend who lives in El Paso. Our friend steered us in the right direction because the food here is fantastic! I ordered two burritos, one brisket and rice and one beans with con queso, as well as rice and beans. My daughter got the full quesadilla. Warning the full is a large portion but luckily since we swung by on our way out of El Paso to NM it was nice having left overs for her! My burritos did not disappoint. Both so full of flavor. Rice and beans were also delicious. My daughter loved her quesadilla as well. This along with The Tap are must stops when you're in El Paso. We got lucky too that we missed the lines that happen on a daily basis. Parking is also scarce but you will eventually find a spot I promise lol. And the food is so worth it! So, I am in El Paso TX for not so fortunate circumstances but this place is a silver lining. People rave about this place and know i know why, it's pretty darn good. The burritos are excellent, the picadillo is a staple but the bristkist is the bomb. Not for you? Go away then! Just kidding. Try the beans with cheese and the Chile colorado - very nice. I was really surprised when I was told there was a place in EP where people lined up and stood in line for hours(!) for the food and this food would run out as early at 1000. So of course I had to go for myself. I went on a Friday morning and came 10m before it opened. I was the 2nd person in line. It's a really small counter, and it's very obvious how/why they run out of food so fast. I ordered some tacos and the queso and beans which get served as a burrito. I ordered a normal taco and an asada taco. The asada taco is really outstanding. The normal taco (just beans?) isn't bad either but no where near as good as the asada. Get the asada. The queso/bean burrito is really tasty also. I think they have an asada version? That's gotta taste better if it parallels the tacos. Menu is pretty limited so it'd be easy to eat your way down it with enough visits and especially with other people. I don't know about these long lines-I was told they happen on the weekends so I guess my advice is to go during the weekdays. read more

Still a destination for food as far as I'm concerned. Returned to ELP to renew my security status and made a point of coming here for collective meals for work. The jolly man who's always at the front counter cooking didn't seem to have a shortage of filling for the ten chile colorado burritos I had ordered the day before at the time I walked in around 10 on a Wednesday, but I think it's still best practice if you're only in town for a short visit to call the order in advance. Each burrito cost $3.75 which for homemade, quality tasting stuff is well worth it but a bump up from $3.25 when I last snapped the menu in November 2022. They now have an iPad they use as a PoS so you can bring in your credit cards. I learned the hard way that trying to obtain cash from ATMs in El Paso is not as straightforward as you'd think so being able to fall back on plastic is a wonderful thing. That chile colorado has such a nice bite to it and so tasty on those soft, fluffy tortillas. Heavenly food in what some consider an inhospitable desert. I will return, hopefully sooner than later. read more

Omgsh so I've recently been hooked on this place! I had no idea they sold burritos! A coworker brought me a bean and chile con queso burrito (insert heart eye emojis here). So delicious!!! Of course it's a tortilla factory so the tortillas are fresh and delicious and the beans and chile con queso combined.... So good! I've heard coworkers say that they are very rude but I've never had an issue when I go in. Every time I go I always get at least one good morning and my foods always ready really quick Just a heads up though, they only take cash and they are only open till 2:30 or until they sell out which can happen around 12:30-1:00 sometimes. My daughter wanted a burrito, so I stopped by at La Colonial tortilla today since we were close by picking up our huge $20 mix box at Jurado's Fruit market. They were so popular they sold out of all their food!!! They did have some bunuelos ($0.75 each) and tortillas ($3) and I bought some to try. The guy who came to answer my questions was super sweet and nice. Wow these bunuelos are so good! I regret only getting 2. It's crunchy, not too sweet, not greasy, and HUGE! They have very limited hours, getting off the freeway is hard because of construction, and parking is tight, but if you're around the area it's definitely worth it. #supportlocal read more

Took my mother here because we love visiting Guy Fieri restaurants, but were utterly disappointed. My mother and I had been planning this outing for quite a while due to Covid. The horrid location has very limited and very sketchy parking. After finally finding parking we entered before noon (12pm mst) there was a man mopping floors, nothing smelled of food and a group of people eating on a table in the back of the business. All stainless steel was washed and ready for the next business day. Store hours clearly state 2pm closing time but we were sarcastically guffawed at when we asked if this was the restaurant. This man expected us to know that they sell out before ten in the morning every day, and were left to buy cold tortillas. This family business probably sells enough corn tortillas to a very prominent El Paso taco (ahogadas) shop that they don't care about the regular customer. Sadly do not recommend and sadly don't feel this business even cares about the Guy Fieri effect. read more

I was VERY disappointed this morning when I visited, for the first time post-pandemic, one of my favorite burrito haunts! La Colonial was such a gem! Great prices, great quality, great value! I walked in with significant anticipation and was floored to see that the price of a chile relleno burrito went up by $1.25!! What??? All of the prices are sky high now! Not only that, but when I got home and pulled my 4 burritos out of the bag, they were exceedingly thin! As a matter of fact, I was hard put to find the beans in my bean and cheese burrito. This is a travesty, this is a shame, this is the downfall of one of the historically best burrito places in town! I have to say that the tortillas are still of delicious, melt-in-your mouth quality, and the taste is superb, but they have violated one of my greatest tenets of hole-in-the wall success; VALUE FOR THE MONEY! This was probably one of those things the family tussled with for years. Something happened during the pandemic and unfortunately the greedy forces prevailed. Why La Colonial?! Whyyyyyy?!?! Saw this place on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and knew since I was in El Paso I had to make a stop and boy am I glad we did. The queso and chips are a must have, the chips are freshly made with their tortillas! From there you can't go wrong. We asked for them to give us their favorite and it was so delicious. Outstanding burritos and tortillas! My mouth is watering from thinking about their freshly made burritos and tortillas. These burritos and tortillas are probably some of the best in town. Their tortillas are light and fluffy, straight up perfection! My favorite burrito is the picadillo. The ground beef has a great flavor. It tastes even better when you add some red or green chile in it. Watch out, their burritos are on the small side so you might be able to eat two or three at a time. I'd like to try their chile relleno burrito but I haven't yet. I'm also interested in trying their tostada chips and chile con queso. I hear La Colonial sells out of their burritos fast so you have to go by 9 or 10 am. You can also call in your order. There's nowhere to sit so you'll have to eat in your car or destination. Take some cash too. Aside from burritos, they have tamales, tostadas, tacos and the prepared masa to make tamales at home. They close by 2 pm on weekdays and they aren't open on weekends. I have not found a better burrito place! I'm obsessed. Everything I have tried has been beyond delicious. Visited for the first time today based on a friend's recommendation. This place is not a restaurant per se, but rather a tortilla-making establishment that also serves burritos and other foods. I ordered three types of burritos: beans with queso, red carne, and picadillo with beans. I also ordered a dozen tamales. The tortillas were of excellent quality, soft and warm with a melt-in-your-mouth consistency. The fillings for the burritos were of average quality, and you can do better in other places in El Paso. Combining the two results in a burrito that is good, but not great. Add to this the fact that the lady taking the orders at the front counter was not having a good day and conducted herself as if she was doing me a favor by taking my order, and it results in an experience that is average at best. If you are looking for authentic burritos in El Paso, you can do worse, but you can definitely do better. read more

La Colonial Tortilla Factory has been Family owned in El Paso Tx for 38 years. I've been going there since my grandmother would take me every christmas as a little boy to buy the masa for tamales. They use authentic white corn cooked daily for corn torillas and the Masa, and If you get there at 9am when they open, you can also get fresh warm flour tortillas right out of the oven. They also make delicious burritos out of Chile Rellenos, Red chile, Green chile, Picadillo, Chicharron also known as pork rinds, Rice, Bean, and the best of all Chile Con Queso. Tacos are also on the menu and I"ve seen people take them by the Dozens. I'm 26 now and still love it! I now continue with the tradition and take my kids there to eat and see how everyting is made.
