Charming, in almost every way. The decor is quaint and homey - makes you feel at home, and relaxed. Even when they're busy, they don't make you feel rushed, which I appreciate a lot. The outdoor seating is also quiet and pleasant. I really love that there's nothing "sceney" about this place, even though it tends to draw an older, probably important Hollywood industry crowd (I hate the sceney. I avoid Urth despite loving the food there for this reason alone). However, the clientele constitutes most of the not-so-charming part. For example, as we were eating, a shiny black Range Rover rolled up next to the curb, a skinny blonde with typical LA attitude, complete with perfected hair flippage, huge designer sunglasses and a completely oversized Fendi purse daintily stepped out and walked in to ask for a table while the car went off to park. But this isn't really the fault of the restaurant. I mean, when in Rome... The first time we went, there was a bit of a long wait, as it was prime brunching hour on a Sunday. The host (who, like everyone else in Hollywood, was an aspiring something or other), was rather good-looking (understatement), German, and unbelievably cute (behaviour-wise). He was getting flustered for making us wait, and came by our table periodically to make conversation, crack some jokes, and apologize while we were eating (it had calmed down a bit by then). Really endearing. The food has always been of the "really good brunch" variety - I mean, it's sort of hard to go wrong with brunch food, but it's also hard for it to be the greatest ever. La Conversation food is pleasantly above-average, and that pastry/bread basket in the beginning is seriously brilliant. Decent coffee, and parking's not hard to find. Always a good experience. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast so I am always searching for a new breakfast spot, I've been to La Conversation a few times but it had been a year or two since my last visit. I was kindly reminded why I loved this place, besides the cute decor and the complimentary pastries that they serve you when you are being seated the food is amazing. Our last visit we had the Salmon Eggs Benedict and an egg white omelet customized per my boyfriends request. My favorite was definitely the eggs Benedict and possibly now my first choice over my long time favorite Fountain Coffee Shop in the Beverly Hills Hotel. The service is always snappy but the only downfall is seating if you don't get there early, the have some outside seating but if you are the unfortunate last couple of tables on the side of the restaurant you feel like you are eating breakfast on the side of the road. read more

I am a sucker for atmosphere, and this place has it. Stepping into La Conversation was like turning a corner and finding yourself in a beautiful French bakery. But I wasn't even here for the sweet treats and scones, I was here for breakfast. The create your own omelette was delicious and everything was in generous portions. This place = ALL frills & NO substance. To top it off, it looks like an American caricature of what an idiot would assume all Parisian bistros look like: pink EVERYWHERE! eek. Overpriced & lackluster food, coffee, and service. What good is a cafe with subpar coffee? Jack $hit, that's what. I could see how a place like this would thrive in this neighborhood (on the same block as as Rolls Royce & Bentley shop). Rich people seem to confuse high price with high quality & are often easily impressed with packaging . . .like babies insulated from the real world around them. Also, the place is noisy as fxxk. The place was nearly empty but still very LOUD, with buzzing machines & a back room in a constant orchestration of crashing pots & pans; an avant guarde symphony exacerbated by the acoustics of a small room. The food was really good. The spinach quiche!!! They are upfront on the menu that food is cooked to order, so it may take a while, and to be patient. I liked that, and it was worth it. The staff was very nice. The atmosphere was nice. I put it at 4 instead of 5 because we ordered wine and it had a kind of freezer burn taste, like it had been in a carafe in the fridge. After that glass, we just moved to a bottle, and then it was fine. read more

I come here for only one thing and that is their chocolate croissants. So delicious. The chocolate seems very high quality. They are not stingy with the chocolate either. Other places put a tiny amount of chocolate right in the middle and you have to bite and bite till you finally get some chocolate. But here every bite has a nice chunk of chocolate. In LA, there's great food. Then there are a bunch of mediocre offerings that serve edible verisimilitude on a plate. This restaurant must skate by on its gaudy decor (masquerading as continental style) and convenient Beverly Hills / WeHo location. Reasons for the rating: 1. After we were seated it took our server about 10 minutes to stop by our table. 2. My pancakes were lukewarm when they arrived. 3. The sausages were small. And while the menu said they would be included with my pancakes, they appeared separately on our bill. Our server fixed the error, initially refusing, but relenting after I asked him to bring the menu over and pointed it out to him. 4. The menu also said "seasonal fruit" would be included with our entrees, but all we got were summer melons, mostly honeydew. I realize this is a pretty typical fruit offering, but it's also a sign of culinary mediocrity. 5. The coffees were also very small, although they do offer free refills. read more

3.5? the hot chocolate is more like hot chocolate milk. like the ones from the powdered mixes but they actually used more milk than water... the pumpkin pancakes, i thought, were nothing special. it tasted like homemade pancakes with a hint of pumpkin. it is good, but i didn't think it was special or anything. the pancakes weren't fluffy or anything. it tastes like they make their scrambled eggs in a vat of butter. and the bacon is the usual kind. it was good but nothing great. the food came out really slow. probably waited more than 30 minutes. everyone else around us, ate croissants i think. maybe that's what i should've had. it's cute inside, with a lot of paintings on the wall. vases. stuff that collect dust.. read more

I use to love this place for breakfast. But something has happened. The cappuccinos are fantastic but something has really gone wrong with the food. The last three times I have been there the omelets have been incredibly dry and nothing in them. The toast is some of the worst I have ever eaten - reminds me of the 80's in NYC diners. I ordered a side salad with my eggs and it was not edible. And there is more than not a very strange cleaning solution odor inside the restaurant. I hope they can bring it back because there is so much competition and I use to love eating here. My business breakfasts will have to be taken somewhere else. read more

I really wanted to like this place, I even went back a second time to give it another chance, but once again, I was disappointed. To begin, this place is always fairly crowded and there is usually a wait. This is expected, but just be prepared.Parking is hit or miss. Sometimes there are a lot of free meter spots, at other times, it takes a good 20 mins just to find parking. Once again, being in LA, this is expected. The decor is extremely cute; it looks like an old house that was converted into this cafe. There is outdoor seating on the street as well. The food is decent. Nothing spectacular that blows my mind, but nothing really terrible. The second time I went, I had the smoked salmon and caviar open sandwich and it was standard. The bakery items are pretty good, but a bit pricey for what they are. What really causes me to give this place such a low review is the service. I would give the food three stars, but the service was extremely terrible. I came here on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. I did not have to wait for seating, we were seated right away, but it took around 15 minutes to get someone to take our drink order. It then took another 15 minutes to get our food order. After we had finished eating, it took us 30 minutes more to get our check, despite asking two different people for it, since our server was nowhere to be found. At this point, we were one of five parties left in the restaurant. When our server came back to our table, she asked us if we needed anything else, to which we replied, can we please get our check since we have been waiting for thirty minutes for it and have already asked two other people, but still have not gotten it. She explained she was on break, but usually when servers go on break, they come to your table, tell you they will be on break and the new server who will be taking over during their break. I have experienced terrible service both times I have been here and the food is just not worth it; I don't have three hours to spend eating a late brunch. Sometimes, I do enjoy a slower pace at a restaurant, but I would like it to be my choice and not because the servers take forever to get our orders or bring us the check. read more

They now charge an extra $7.50 for a 2nd bread basket while you wait for your food. It's been over 30 minutes waiting for food when the restaurant is half full on a Saturday. Seems like something is wrong, not like this place, but even when making eye contact with one of the servers and asking for the manager, she said they don't have a manager and then completely ignores you. Good food but be prepared to wait a long while, seems like they don't really care anymore. After having come here for years, this will be the last time. read more

There's a disclaimer on their menu about their food taking 15-20 minutes to cook. However, after waiting an hour and 10 minutes (parking meter expired) we still had no food in front of us. Our waiter abandoned us and never came back after bringing us a basket of muffins. We finally found out from another waiter that something had happened to the waffle maker? Apparently it was too much trouble for our waiter to let us know, give us an option to order something else, or even bring us fresh drinks or an option for some fruit to tide us over with. I imagine the food might be tasty, but we never found out. read more

La Conversation has a lovely, charming atmosphere. It feels like this cute, little French neighborhood cafe. The 3-star rating is based on their breakfast menu. While the food tasted okay, the presentation was a big let down. It looked like something served straight out of a local diner. Coffee also tasted mediocre. Cute restaurant in s great location. The Lox, onion and cream cheese pastry is a must try. It was the perfect flavour balance wrapped in the best puff pastry. The Ham and Gruyere quiche was to die for. This is not your pre-made and warmed in an oven type dish. The eggs were cooked just enough so they were still creamy and the gruyere added the right sweet nutty flavour to balance the ham. Love this place for breakfast! I can definitely vouch for the pumpkin pancakes, french toast, and all egg dishes. Everything is fresh, good quality, and served in reasonable portions. They bring out a basket of mini pastries to start which are to die for and definitely satisfy any sweet tooth you may have in the morning. Plan on being here for a while, as the service is very slow and you won't really know who your waitress/waiter is. Dog friendly outdoor seating is a plus! read more

Went here for lunch today around 1:30 pm. The restaurant was quite busy. We took a table in the window. I had an iced mocha latte that was very good and the curry chicken salad. The portion was generous, but not ridiculous. There were tons of raisins and almonds. My only complaint was the type of bowl used. The bowl was very deep and it was a bit awkward to cut up the chicken. The service is efficient, but respectful. We were allowed to talk without being interrupted. read more

This place is relatively close to my work and rarely disappoints. The food takes some time to be prepared, but that's to be expected at a place where things are mostly made from scratch. That's what makes the difference in the taste, as at most French places. If you want a quick in-and-out meal, you may want to skip it. That said, lunch is always spectacular in my opinion. After going to the pumpkin patch down the street, had a late lunch on a weekday with my 7 year old niece. This place was an old fave of mine from when I worked down the street over a decade ago. It was a really Hot L.A. day. Ordered two Arnold Palmer's (great) and we split a Monte Cristo Sandwich (French Toast Sandwich, w/ham, turkey and Swiss cheese). They nailed it! The bread is an amazing egg bread with golden raisins baked in (served with a side of warm syrup). This sandwich is the perfect combo of savory and sweet. My niece who is on the finicky side, Loved her lunch as well as the colorful decor (kind of like a doll house). We took home a couple of the macadamia nut tea cakes (a house specialty) can't rave enough about them. Yummy read more

one of the cutest cafes i've been to. Too bad it's so far from me, but i still try to go at least once a month. Their pumpkin pancakes are a must-have, all though make sure you are very hungry or plan on taking some home because the portions are quite large (the only contradiction to them being a french cafe).
