I love La Creperie! My favorite crepe they serve is the butter and sugar. It is the simplest, but it allows you to really enjoy the flavor of the crepe itself. However, they do have a good variety of other delicious crepes here as well featuring various fruits, peanut butter, and nutella. All very yummy! OK CREPERIE, YOU LOST 2 STARS FROM MY PREVIOUSLY GOOD REVIEW. Behind Au Bon Pan is this shop that barely fits 10 people inside, called La Creperie. The menu is not too extensive (a simple list of savory and sweet crepes, 3 waffles and drinks), but that is easily compensated by CUSTOM ORDERING. You can ask for a combination of whatever they have available to satisfy your palate. The downside to this is that if they actually remember with accuracy what to add to your crepe, the chances are they'll burn it. Or maybe forget that you ordered a crepe completely. Or maybe they'll also be rude when you remind them about that crepe they forgot about. ...I still don't understand how this is considered "night life," since this place isn't open very late. First and foremost, we opened the door, only to have the garbage can fall over and dump trash all over the entry. This little shop located in an alley off Thayer, is a favorite of the younger crowd. Every time I've visited, there's college kids, high school kids or young couples...maybe it's a way for them to be transported to France without leaving RI. A diverse selection of savory crepes, sweet crepes, salads and wraps allow for clients to choose something of their liking. I picked a Mediterranean wrap: marinated chicken, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions and dijon mustard in a white (you can get wheat) tortilla. The wrap is warmed up before being delivered to you. Nice, tasty and filling. All for about $6. Ambiance is very casual with pictures of the Eiffel tower and other Parisian sights. There is a great variety of sweet and savory options to choose from. The smoothies are amazing as well. They're open late, which is a huge bonus. Beware: 1. It's small and there's little seating. Stalk tables like a vulture, or take it to go, if needed. 2. If you are over the age of 25, you may feel out of place. Just go with it. 3. These crepes taste homemade.... in the mere sense that I can make identically tasting versions of all flavors within the comfortable confinements of my dorm room with a griddle. They even serve these overpriced folds on white Dixie paper plates. I didn't know I signed myself up for a backyard BBQ. I suppose if you're craving crepes, you should come here by default. Yummy yummy yummy I got crepes in my tummy! They are so tasty and good. I think I ate 4 last time I was in there. Truly this hole in the wall place is a little slice of heaven. The one down side is there are only like 3 tables in the whole place. I'm a large man, and it's hard for me to move around this establishment when there people there because it's so tiny. I feel like my belly is touching the counter but my butt is out the door. Again I'm a very large man that can eat 4 of these amazing crepes and a milk shake during one seating. I absolutely enjoyed my crêpe from here. I've tried making crêpes at home, but it's not the same. I had the Rita, which has spinach, tomato, mushroom, onion and feta. After a minimal wait, I brought my food to an outside table to eat, as the inside was packed. I didn't care that I was eating in an alley, complete with dumpsters in view. Hubby took me to this little joint to fulfill my crepe craving. It is tucked in a side street off Thayer street where the froyo place is. We love this place! We were disappointed when we got there at about 11:40 thinking they were closing much later and found them already closed. I understand now that they actually were supposed to close at midnight but it was still before that. It was a shame to drive there with a pretty simple order and arrive before closing to find they were already closed. But regardless of this experience we have never been disappointed with the food. I called for a pick up and this guy answered me and said I asked for a s'mores crepe and asked him do you spread the Nutella he replied back " ehhh" and I said so that's a no? I great part about this is with the menu they have, you can switch things out or add extra stuff (obviously for more $ but sometimes its worth it). My go-to's are: Nutella banana (sometimes add shredded mozzarella) Butter and sugar (sometimes add shredded mozzarella) Breakfast with mozzarella instead of cheddar, with ham and spinach Others I have tried: Choc chip banana -- meh, not satisfying at all, just go for the nutella Nutella strawberry -- this is a hit and miss because sometimes they use fresh strawberry but sometimes they used like the sweet can-like strawberry thing and I don't even know why The smoothies are pretty good in general but I can't remember if I love any of them in particular. I lost my virginity in La Creperie. In that dirty alley, I had my first crepe 14 years ago. I have, of course, had all sorts of other crepes since then. It's become an obsession. Big ones. Minuscule ones. Sophisticated ones. Dingy ones. Robust ones. Flimsy ones. Had them in Greece, Venezuela, Germany, and the Keys. I've had them for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. I've had me all sorts of crepes. And better ones, too. Yeah, we've had our problems: I broke up with it for over a year because of its silly little games. Like forgetting I placed an order. Or only placing a SINGLE chocolate chip in my Michelle [strawberry & chocolate chip] crepe. I stop by whenever I'm in town, grab the table in the corner, and remember how good we had it. I was so excited to find a crepe place in Providence. I went once and was so disgusted that the staff did not wear gloves and cut my bananas and used their hands to cut and place my strawberries. I went back again (not even sure why) and sure enough, a different staff this time, began using her hands as well. Massively overrated and thoroughly average. I'm convinced the only reason La Creperie is so popular is the confluence of proximity to Brown University, the elitist gratification of frequenting a "neighborhood" establishment in an alley off an increasingly corporate Thayer, and the "you never forget your first (crepe)" effect. While I've never had service problems and am fine with the alcohol-free dive bar atmosphere, I've never really liked their crepes either - the savory are bland and a bit oily, and the sweet are overly sweet. Once I got exposed to excellent, albeit more expensive, crepes (see Crepe Cafe and Wine Bar in Seattle) and I went back to see if perhaps I just hadn't had a taste for crepes before, my opinion was reaffirmed. If you must have dessert for breakfast this is your place, but that's about the extent of its charm. And don't get anything with tomatoes inside, cuz then the inside gets soggy. Also don't go too crazy with the toppings slash fillings; you want something to complement the crepe's natural flavors, not vie for attention and overshadow said crepe's inner beauty... I will cut to the chase. What I'm trying to say is, just order the Racquel crepe (Brie, baby spinach, and cranberries). It is perfect. A balance of sweet, tart, creamy, cheesy, and spinach (no euphemism for that one, sorry). What's that? You hate all of the above? Well then just get a butter sugar crepe. Or move to Paris. But as long as you're on the Hill, please sit down and enjoy the lovely Racquel at the one and only Creperie. P.S. I'd be surprised if you're still reading, but one more wise word of advice since you've made it this far - the secret to truly enjoying your crepe: don't let your mind wander. She dragged me to La Creperie and that is where I discovered my new love. Crepes. As a lover of sweets and dessert I ventured to the sweet side of the menu, plus it was after dinner, so I considered this dessert. I ordered the smores crepe. A crepe loaded with nutella, baby marshmallows and graham crackers. The nutella was warm and gooey and the marshmallows had melted just the right amount, not runny but not completely solid. I like the strawberry and banana crepe with chocolate. I don't remember the name since they're all names of girls which is actually pretty cool, but I try not to give them too much credit. I eat here all the time, but it's more because it's convenient than tasty. As far as crepes go, these are really not that great. (I'm kind of a crepe snob, but honestly, crepes can be much, much better). On the other hand, as far as Thayer St food goes, La Creperie is above average. While the price is pretty reasonable, the crepes are hit or miss. And when I say "hit" I really just mean palatable. In general, they put way too much Nutella on their crepes and my plate often looks like a muddy mess. (All the Nutella lovers are currently swearing at me. I love Nutella, but in the right proportion!) If you go for the savory crepes, I'd avoid the crepes that include spinach because they just dump some flavorless frozen green stuff on and call it a day. La Creperie's food, fortunately, does not fit with the sketchy location down an alley. My tomato, basil, mozzarella, and spinach crepe was hot and delicious. Normally I am a sweet crepe type of gal, but I wanted something with protein in it. This was a good choice; I particularly like that the spinach seemed seasoned with something and added a flavor punch to the dish. My husband had a banana Nutella crepe that he enjoyed. I liked how the crepes were folded into squares that served almost as pockets for the fillings. Even though we used forks and knives to eat them, this shape seemed to make the whole endeavor a bit neater and easier. The location is super-cramped inside and we were unlucky enough to get the table next to the plasticware, so people kept reaching over our food for utensils. Navigating through the crowd to get our food at the counter and then back to our seat was hairy. It was also impossible not to overhear the pretentious conversations of fellow crepe-eaters. I'd take my crepe to go next time. My biggest regret is that I checked in on Yelp after we ordered and paid so I didn't see the 25% off deal until it was too late!
