This is a completely unique place with myriad flavors (sweet and savory) and when you're looking for something different you ought to give it a try. There are only six or eight tables, so you might want to plan to take out instead of eating in, but that shouldn't be your main concern - your main concern should be YUMMY CREPES. Love this place! The Nutella Crepe is so delicious its ridiculous! When you first walk in it literally is the size of a bedroom. There isn't much place to sit when it gets packed but the food is totally worth it. They have a whole crap load of smoothies that taste WAY better than the ABP next door and they are cheaper. The people behind the counter, especially the one girl Amy, are freakin' hilarious. Always smiling and ready to offer you another crepe when yours is done. The best part of the whole experience is actually getting to watch them make the crepes right in front of you. There is a "bar like" setup right next to the cash register and right behind the crepe making thing (whatever that thing is called lol). Around the school year there are always a lot of "hipster" kids in and out in between classes but they usually don't make to much of a ruckus. I had no idea about the 25% off check in deal which makes me want to go back even more! I will definitely be going back to this place whenever I get the chance! Underwhelming. This is your run of the mill American crepe place. The location makes it possible to have low quality coupled with high prices. It's a very small space, down a small alley. So if you can manage to get a seat, good for you. It's always crowded, but only because this area of Providence is swarming with undergrads all the time. Don't take the crowd as a testament of quality. The crepes are handed out on paper plates, and many involve nutella (the lowest form of crepe filling). The savory fillings (especially vegetables) are flavorless and definitely frozen not fresh. Save your money and just make your own crepes at home - they'll taste better. read more

Came here to get a Tropical Oasis smoothie in the late afternoon on a Thursday, was met with the most horrible customer service I've experienced during my time in Providence. We had our receipts and pens thrown at us as if he were doing us a favor (we weren't even dining in). We kindly asked for a couple of ice cubes for our water bottles since it had been a really hot day, instead of a kind 'no' we got another ugly response. Even though there is a Yelp Check-In offer at this location, beware of asking the guy at the counter as he may bark at you how La Creperie doesn't participate in Yelp offers anymore. OH. MY. GOD. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF CREPE! I was kind of put off by La Creperie, its kind of the size of a cupboard, but I'm glad we stopped. I think the least time I had a crepe was in seventh or eighth grade in my French class when we made crepes for a project. I was a little reluctant, but once I had my first bite of crepe I was hooked. There are so many different varieties, too numerous to name off here, but my favorite is just classic with a little powdered sugar. If you're feeling super decadent, hot fudge and strawberries with some freshly whipped cream is to-die-for. I think my favorite part of the visit was the pretty girl behind the counter, Amy. I've read some of the other reviews and I have to agree that the service isn't the most friendly the times that I've been there. I wasn't treated rudely, but just as if they are simply trying to get their work done with a minimum of conversation. I have to say I really enjoy the crepes. I always get the one with the brie, cranberries and spinach. That's one of my fav combinations and it has been delicious every time. I also really enjoy the nutella with bananas and strawberries; again, delicious. My son has had the smoothies and he seemed to enjoy them. I almost missed my flight outta Denver coming back home because I was waiting in line for crepes (the Crepe Escape on the 16th Street mall - you should TOTALLY check it out if you're ever in Denver!). Anyways, was in town due to my bestie being in town for the RISD alumni art sale, and we went to THIS AWESOMELY MAGICAL hole in the wall for my MOST FAVORITE THING (outside of puppies, Kit Kat bars, my boyfriend, fuzzy slippers, cozy comforters, fireplaces... you get the idea). Call me a little crepe-crazy. But I absolutely love this place! Past a dumpster on a discrete alleyway off the lively streets of Thayer is where you will find this small hidden wonder. A little place that has you slightly "iffy" about its choice set-up... but quickly melts away any inhibition at first bite. It's a modest establishment with two tables for less than ideal outdoor seating and a small dining area with select seating options. I've gone here during non-peak hours so finding a place to sit hasn't been much of an issue, although I can see where it can become one. They have a wide range of sweet and savory crepes to tickle your fancy on their chalkboard menu. All of which I have tried and loved. Their "Josephine" is easily my favorite go-to savory dish with steaming pieces of white meat chicken, sautéed spinach and soft stretchy cheese. If you tell me there is an option to have Nutella added in, you betcha I'm going to have it EVERYTIME I have a hankering for something sweet. I mean, with Nutella you can do no wrong-- add a sprinkle of confection sugar and bananas and you got yourself a winner. La creperie knows it. Plus their refreshing smoothies are delicious! A bit on the pricey side (like all smoothies are) but are sizable, fruity and perfectly blended (not too thick and not too thin/liquid-y). If you haven't tried crepes before or love crepes... We have been thinking about trying here for awhile and we finally did tonight . It was delicious ! A friend got the Josephine and he loved it . I got the Rosina without peppers but added black olives . My only preference was to have marinara sauce with it . We took. Our order to go so I just used mine at home and it was good . Also the sausage wasn't really warm so you can tell they are made ahead of time and not kept warm but they were still good . You are served with paper plates and plastic utensils, there isn't a whole lot of space to sit either but they have fast turnaround. I feel like the place could be cleaner as most of the time the tables are dirty, but I suppose the nature of the restaurant is chow down and leave. Still, if I have a craving for crepes, this is usually the first place I think of around here. On my most recent visit, a good friend and I arrived to a full house, mostly college kids. In warmer months, there are usually a couple tables outside, but because it's freezing out, we were crammed inside and had to wait just a little bit for a table to open up after we ordered. No biggie, it's well worth the wait. This place is small, but charming. They have a great menu of crêpes, wraps, and best of all, smoothies! Over the years, I've eaten here quite a bit. I really wish I'd read Neha S.'s review sooner as I would have saved myself so much money...(If you check in on Yelp each time you go in, you get a 25% discount. Every time. Save yourself $$) A good spot to meet up with a friend or two for a casual lunch. Don't expect too much with the ambiance. The space is definitely no-frills, but it gets the job done. Just five or so tables and seating for 10-15 ... max? Easy to find seating as a table of two as turnover is pretty fast, but larger groups may have trouble. Grab it to go instead. In the summer, there's usually a table outside (with the most romantic of views... garbage cans in Fones Alley). After you enter, you pay and order at the counter and wait for your order to be called. (Tell them ahead of time if you'd like it to-go and they'll provide a box). Food is served on flimsy paper plates and plastic utensils, napkins, straws, etc are available at the front. Bright orange water cooler can be found near the entrance if you'd like water. During peak hours (probably 12-2 or 6-8?), note that the place can get pretty crowded/hectic since there isn't really a place for people to wait indoors besides around the tables themselves. Also, order can take a bit longer to come out since they can only make two crepes at a time. Service has gotten better over the years. The people working seem happier to be there and are friendlier. It's not table service, though, so it doesn't matter too much. Depending on who's working, the music playing varies quite a bit. Notable to me only because when I first went to La Creperie five years ago, it was known for only ever playing death metal-- while I'm not the biggest fan of that genre, I appreciated the quirkiness of a creperie that blasted death metal...music has since changed here. Food is pretty good....a solid option on Thayer, which is lacking in hot, healthy food at affordable prices. Savory: I go for the Josephine, whole wheat, with baby spinach and less Bechemel sauce. Super filling, tasty, and satisfying. If you're a vegetarian or not feeling meat, the Mary is a solid option. Sweet: Go Nuts. Can't go wrong. Can't speak to the salads or wraps - I don't really ever see anyone ordering them, if that says much. Waffles are also pretty good- huge. Their smoothies are also a great option- definitely the best place to go if you want one. My favorites are the Tropical Oasis, the Mad Hawaiian, or the Cranberry Cooler- all good and not outrageously priced. Can add boosters- whey protein, soy protein, Immune Blend, Multivitamin- not sure if it's worth it, but the option exists. Open til midnight so good for post-dinner dessert (or you can get dinner and dessert here!) There are also some new smoothie/crepe options that looked pretty good that I've yet to try. Give La Creperie a chance- one of the better Thayer restaurants. Try a smoothie and a sweet or savory crepe (or both). And don't forget to check in on Yelp! read more

The dessert crepes here are amazing! Last night I had the Chiara (filled with nutella and topped with powdered sugar) and my bf had the Connie (nutella & bananas). We really enjoyed them and it was pretty empty around 10pm (only 2 other couples there). Employees were friendly and patient, although we had a pretty good idea of what we wanted to order. I've never tried the savory crepes here because I think of crepes as more of a dessert item, but the combinations sounded interesting. Also, they now offer buckwheat batter for their crepes if you request it. Prices are fair, parking can be difficult. I'll definitely be back to try some different combinations. I was surprised at how many different and delicious-sounding crepes there were! I finally decided on the Nina crepe: Brie and green apple slices. Who ever had thought of that? I watched the girl making it right there in front of me and it was huge and square. This crepe was unforgettable! Unfortunately I ate the whole thing and felt fat. What's nice about this place is that there's free water. Spent 5 weeks at Brown and absolutely loved this place. Before I talk about what I liked, let me first air my grievances. It's small, very packed at peak times, and somewhat hard to find the first time you go. The staff seem neither friendly nor mean, they look like they're just there to do the job. In the end, they do a great job of that. It's hot inside the building and it can be unclear who's ordering, waiting, and who has yet to order. With that said, everything else about the place is fantastic- namely the food, which is all that really matters to me. The smoothies are nothing special, but it's one of the few places on Thayer street that offers them and they hit the spot. The crepe options are incredible, both savory and sweet. The sweet crepes are perfect for a late night snack, but the savory crepes are what I go for. I eat them for lunch and dinner! I've had the Racquel, Josephine, Lisa, and the Turkey Pesto. I would recommend every single one of them as being uniquely delicious and filling. If the combination of ingredients sounds good to you- order it. Don't have any reservations. About 10 minutes later they are calling out our order. Served on flimsy paper plates and given plastic silverware to eat with, you're warned. I like my savory crepe nothing much to note though. The sweet crepe is also tasty but no wow factors. The waffle, I make better waffles at home and would not order that again. My daughter orders a berry smoothie to travel and was great. I stopped in here with some buddies for my birthday once and to be honest, it was the first time I'd ever had a Crepe. I didn't even know what the hell a Crepe was before I heard of this place. Nonetheless, I found my first time to be, well, enjoyable to say the least. For a first timer I wanted something basic, something not too "over the top" so I settled for the Ellen Crepe which was made with chocolate, bananas, and whipped cream. WOW! The flavor, the feeling of satisfaction on my tastebuds was just awesome. That was one heck of a Crepe if I do say so myself. I find it bizzare how almost everyone on these reviews are rating this place poorly just because it's small. So what if the place is small? The food is more important and I was always taught that sometimes the best food can come from small places. You don't need a Colloseum-sized place to enjoy good quality food. The restaurant is hidden in Fones Alley, tucked away among the student housing off of Thayer Street behind Brown University. It is a very tiny place, with a few tables and chairs. Personally, I recommend getting your crepes to go and eating them outside on the Brown campus, especially in the summer. Leslie, the owner of the the Creperie, took home the top prize in the Rhode Island World of Flavors Competition (disclaimer: I produced the event) in 2009.
