If you're into the salsa scene and enjoying dancing and watching a live band with dancers, then this is your scene. It sets a scene that makes you think you're in a private club in Havana. The drinks we ordered were decent cocktails. There's a separate cigar lounge. The bar and dancing area got incredibly packed on a random weeknight. It wasn't completely my scene and I may have liked it better had the area been bigger to provide some breathing space, but it was still beautifully done. This is definitely a unique gem hidden in LA! I arrived on Friday night to meet some friends for a birthday. When I first arrived I was told by the bouncer to wait along the wall, and was asked if I had a reservation. I told the bouncer that I was here for a friends birthday and was not sure if they had made a reservation. When my friend arrived who's having a birthday she was unaware that you needed to have reservations for Friday and Saturday night; which during the week I guess you do not have to. The host finally came to our party and asked how many weeks plane that there was going to be about 8 to 15 of us he told us the chances of us getting in we're going to be very hard and less you wanted to come back after midnight. We were kind of shocked by that response and started wheeling and dealing with the birthday girl's boyfriend to try and sell bottle service which eventually he broke down and did . I don't think that was the best business practices on part of the club as later in the night with so many people behind us in line that came in and did not have a table. Dress code : The club on their website emphasized a STRICT dress code; however when we arrived you could tell it was not enforced as many people were in sneakers and T-shirts. Entrance: once we were led into the club we walked up a dim lit staircase which we were greeted by a host who had asked our party who had been to the club before. Once she gave us a quick breakdown of the layout of the club, we were led into a closet door which was an entrance to the club( basically a secret door). We were then led to our VIP table. Experience : at first the club was not busy at all; however it started to get busy right around 1030 and it was fun with the music and the diverse age group. They also had live shows about every 30 minutes for about 7 to 9 minutes. Drinks: drink prices were about $12-$16. I ordered the underground which was light and refreshing; however nothing special. The birthday host ordered a large serving of a Mojito punch bowl which had great flavor, but yet again nothing special. Overall, I would go back to this place; however I think having tableservice there is the biggest joke as they let anyone into VIP area; even though they did not have a table. Been to about 10 speakeasy bars in 4 cities so far but hands down my favorite! If you're going on a Friday or Saturday, make sure you book a few days to a week in advance! I dont believe weekdays require reservation. We dropped by on early friday (~9pm) without a reservation and luckily got in but reservations were reiterated by the bouncer. From the outside, the bar had a clear sign that advertised "La Descarga" so I was doubting how authentic of a speakeasy experience I would be getting. Shouldn't it be hidden and mystical?! But once you go up the stairs, you'll be led into a room and your experience will begin from there. It was like a maze going from room to room. They have two big bars, but if you're not a smoker, I would highly highly recommend staying away from the bar in the back as its known as the cigar room with no ventilation whatsoever. We decided to get a seat in the main area as we had a good view of the 2nd floor balcony where the burlesque show would take place. It was my first burlesque show but omg. The man with a saxophone will serenade right in front of you and the show was phenomenal, you need to see it yourself. Now the drinks. Delicious but potent, what else do I need to say more ;) considering all the freebie experiences, drinks were very reasonably priced, ranging from $11-16. Even more reasons to love this place! By the end of the night, everybody was up and dancing in the main area. Some people really knew how to dance, it was a show in itself! Love La Descarga! Although it's tiny and parking is tough it's such a unique place for LA. You must make reservations online in order to get in and they usually reach capacity early in the week for that weekend. So plan ahead. Dress code is strictly enforced, cocktail attire mostly. The entrance is discreet and fun. You go in through a closet and have to come down the spiral staircase right onto the dance floor. Every couple of hours they have a burlesque show up top. The live salsa band also plays from up there. All in all a great place for Latinos to really feel at home, drink and dance. They also have a cigar lounge in the back. Music is always great, drinks are on point, the vibe is chill and fun. Bartenders are friendly. People are really there to have fun and that's it. No drama, no bs, just a good time! read more

I'm so disappointed about this place. This was my favorite place to go for 4 years. Last night I went with my family and friends to celebrate my birthday, and first they try to charge $100 per parking, when I know they charge 25$, I was driving a Corvette and I think they try to get money from me, anyway I felt bad and preferred to look for parking on the street around. After that at the entrance they said they are only letting people in if they buy a bottle of tequila and get a tablet for $365. We accepted. But in the end they charged $505 so we asked why? They said that they took 100$ for tip, but they didn't even ask us how much we wanted to give for tip. We try to talk to them and the manager was so rude, here in the video you can watch the way he talked to us. He said that they can take de 20% like a tip, but $130? I love this place. They have great entertainment and great drinks. I love the fact that people somewhat dress up a bit more although it's so stuffy and crowded at times. There's 2 rooms and one is closed-in you walk down a spiral staircase and there's either instrument playing like jazz or the random burlesque show. This one is usually crowded. The other is a covered patio/courtyard that's also crowded but it's the more fun spot bc people dance and they play all kinds of music and even some Spanish. Hidden little gem. Attended this lounge for a friend's birthday. When we first got there we got to skip the line because we were on a guest list but normally a reservation is needed. The security quickly checked our ids and lead us through the doors. Once we were in they stopped us and told us about the rules of the establishment. This included no pictures during performances and being in dress code. Once we all agreed to the rules we went through another door that was hidden, walked down a dark walkway and down a staircase. The same staircase and walk way is later used for performances by the live band and burlesque dancer. The lounge is very alive and vibrant with a speak easy feel. They played mostly Latin music like salsa. The crowd is mixed but mostly people of Latin descent. There is no where to sit unless you reserve a table. So be warned that if you're wearing cute strappy heels like I did you might be taking a few trips to the bathroom to sit on the toilet to give your feet a break or two. Bar and drinks are reasonably priced at about $10-$12 and up. Menus randomly line the bar as well as drink specials for the night. There is a separate bar in the back that has cigars and other drink specials. Parking is valet as well as finding street parking IF you're lucky. DJ Paris Paul (Saturday's/Fridays) plays the exact same songs every weekend, plays a playlist. Why be a DJ if your going to go to work and play the exact same songs in almost the same sequences? He plays "Perra" - J Balvin, Tokischa, (song was deemed, racist/misogynistic, and taken down by Youtube in 2021, even J Balvin regrets creating the song. Only to be roasted by Residente, (Calle 13) A true DJ should know these things, so that he doesn't play it. He has the same exact 3 Salsa Songs, including Celia Cruz "El Carnaval". Sacredly played ALL the time. Its a Cuban themed place, someone upgrade his Salsa Folder or get suggestions. If its your first time its okay, but if you go more times than you'll notice a pattern and it starts to get boring/dull. DJ's should be up to par with what is playing on the radio and have variety, and don't let your audience know that your playing the exact same songs if they go consistently. read more

I was post to hit La Descarga around the Holidays, but it never happened. So when I had a chance to go on a Fri night recently, I jumped at the opportunity. LD is a speakeasy located on Western near Santa Monica Blvd in Hollywood. LD also has a spiral staircase to enter the main bar, a small stage for a band, and a catwalk, well where a cat walks for a burlesque show. The show was pretty entertaining (sorry, no pics because lighting is bad). What LD also has is three separate lounging areas, two bars, and lots of latinas! Too bad many of them we paired up. My friend and I, and a token Azn girl, were the only non-Latinos in the place. Nonetheless, peeps were chill, and it did not deter us from trying to holla. BTW, drinks are reasonably priced at $12 for top shelf. The rear bar has whiskies and cigars. Additionally the bouncers are cool. My friend bought cigarettes, and there was a malfunction. Vince, the cool bouncer in the back listened, and referred my friend to the bartender. My friend received a free drink. The only downside to this place is the bartenders in the main area are sloooow, and we didn't get digits. La Descarga means to unload, and this is a good place to take a load off on the weekend. This is such a low key place for drinks and cigars. The place is fairly small..you go up to come back down. There are two bars to the place, the main bar area and in the cigar room. I went during the week so thankfully I was able to sit down throughout the night. They are known for rum so I had to have a rum drink. There's live music, live burlesque show, live jazz, and drinks. I had high expectations of La Descarga. My friends are to blame because they had hyped it up for the longest time. Word for word, they have told me "This place is a high-end night club....there is a required dress code, you gotta dress your best.....and everyone there are HOT." It is a night club. It is small. There are two separate rooms for smoking cigars. I don't smoke so I don't really care. But the bar tenders makes the most amazing cocktails here. There are burlesque performances throughout the night, which are done upstairs and the crowd is looking up from the first floor. No pictures are allowed. However the live music is fantastic. We had a few hiccups with some older women sitting at a booth. They didn't like that I put my cocktail glass down on their booth (for 20 seconds) while I took my sweater off. I felt overdressed. I was expecting HOT people....but unfortunately the hottest man I saw there was our bouncer. After a few great cocktails, we left home early around midnight. Not what I was expecting. To be fair, I thought La Descarga overall was a fun place if my friends didn't hyped it up so much. I had a good time regardless. This lounge will probably stay on top of my list for a long time. We came here for a friend's birthday a while back. It's been a while since I've been here and enjoyed every second at La Descarga. The vibe is so chill and drinks are great. People and bartenders are really friendly. They know their cigars and rums well. It's an entertaining experience coming here from lining up for entry to being greeted by the hostess, entering the secret entrance, and walking down the spiral stairs. My friends including the birthday girl mentioned the bar was very close feeling like they were in Havana having spent some time there earlier in the year. The area is a bit sketchy. Knowing this part of East Hollywood from back in the day, make sure to park in a well lighted area and not in any alleys (Especailly the ones across the street. Speakeasy spot that's kind of in a random part of town. It's a super cool spot with awesome latin/salsa music and even a cigar room in the back. There's burlesque shows with live music couple times a night which were great to watch. On some nights it does get packed so get ready to fight your way across the room/at the bar. THIS PLACE IS RUN BY THIEVES. If you're a woman, I wouldn't go here unless you want to be attacked, robbed, and yelled at by incompetent employees just for asking for assistance. I had my phone stolen there last night (along with multiple other women) and the staff offered NO help, or even any kind words. Instead, they were beyond RUDE, disrespectful, and kicked out me and the other women who were victims of theft. It's clear they are working with and/or protecting the thieves. Full Story: I was at La Descarga on a Saturday night. I was constantly checking to make sure that my purse was secure because the place was so crowded and I was being overly cautious. I was in the main room but it was way too crowded and we could barely move/breathe so we decided to go to the second room. On the walk over to the other room, I checked my purse on my shoulder. The clasp was locked. I entered the room and started dancing with my friends. Less than 2 minutes later, I checked my purse on my shoulder again, and I noticed it was unlocked. I looked inside, and my phone was gone. I immediately knew it was stolen. I walked to the nearest security guard and told him what happened. He said he would check with his managers to see what they could do. I quickly logged into findmyiphone on my friend's phone. It showed that the phone was still there. The security guard then returned and told me that he reviewed the security camera footage and that a 'little boy' stole my phone. (this is a 21+bar, WTF). He said all he could tell me was that it was a 'little man looking boy'. I asked if the DJ in that room could pause the music for a few seconds so I could play the findmyiphone alarm sound. He said he would check with his manager. He disappeared for like 10-15 minutes. While he was gone, a woman came up to me with her husband and said that her phone was just stolen too. I looked for the missing security guard and found him standing outside with his manager. The manager asked me to step over to him so we could talk directly. There were two other women there whose phones were also just stolen too. He told me there was nothing he could do except take my name and email address to reach out to me if my phone showed up. I asked again if he would pause the music for 10 seconds (as they've done multiple times throughout the night for various announcements) so I could play the alarm sound in the small room because my phone and the thief were still in there. He said that he wouldn't disturb the other guests just for me and the other woman. But I'm sorry, if you know there are thieves in your establishment actively stealing from multiple of your customers, wouldn't you want to do something about that to protect your customers. It's clear they don't care. He told me that people get drunk in here all the time and drop their phones and claim they've been stolen. He was trying to gaslight me. I told him that I hadn't had a drink all night and was sober. I asked him if I could watch the security camera footage the other security guard was talking about. He then started raising his voice at me. He was yelling saying that there's over 300 people in there and how dare I expect him to watch the footage right now. I very calmly told him that I didn't ask anyone to review the footage, the other security guard voluntarily told me that the security camera footage had been reviewed and that he saw a little boy/man take my phone. I just want to see that same footage if it's possible to figure out who in the bar had my phone so I could get it back. He started yelling at me and calling me a liar. At this point, I walked away from him because he wasn't offering me any help. I walked back inside to find one of my friends so they could order me an Uber so I could leave this godforsaken establishment. I was standing near the exit about to walk back outside to leave when the same manager/security guard walks up to me and yells at me that I need to leave the establishment. He proceeded to go back inside and kick 2 of my friends out too. (Mind you - they had no interactions with this man, he just knew they were with me). Shocked is an understatement to what I was feeling in this moment. MY phone was stolen, and he offered me NO help, yet he was kicking ME out.I understand that businesses aren't required to help you in times like these. I could accept that. But his ATTITUDE was unacceptable. He is one of the most inconsiderate and disrespectful people I have ever encountered. I'm truly appalled that instead of helping any of us victims of theft, the security at La Descarga told us all to leave. That told me all I need to know. The staff of La Descarga is either working with the thieves, or they are the thieves, or they're intentionally tuning a blind eye because they're lazy fucks who don't care about their customers. The idea of this place is pretty cool. First of all, you can't just show up and get in line to try to come in. It all has to be done beforehand through a reservation. You let them know the date and time you (your group) are trying to go and they let you know if it's going to happen or not. Now, the best part was the entrance. It's pretty cool to see this "underground" bar/lounge. They have really great bartenders and drinks. The band plays when the burlesque dancer comes out every hour. There is a separate bar where you can even smoke cigars. The place isn't big. Like at all. That's why you have to make the reservation. I did like the place and it would be a great place to dance salsa music but there is no dance floor. I found it kind of hard to dance there because you are kind of in the way. Not only were stuff super unprofessional, but rude also... the bartenders were good and the drinks were good, but we were at tables where we had been sitting since the place opened, and bought cigars, drinks, and were enjoying the night and dancing, until it got super crowded, and not only was there no room to dance, but we had three or four staff members come up to us about three hours later, after we had spent a ton of money, and tell us to leave. They were literally telling us to leave not even asking, using really rude hand gestures like "get the hell out of here, this table is now taken by somebody else." We have never been treated so badly at any club or restaurant, especially where we spent that much money. I wrote an email to the manager, never even got a response. I am so disappointed and disgusted at the lack of security and their professionalism. I witnessed (GA)old ladies with their "guys" harass a group beautiful young girls and guys last night. I saw the young group constantly calling security and saw security fail them multiple times. The young group was having a good time in their little space not bothering anyone. Security was no where in sight when drinks were being thrown at their direction by the old people group. Glass flying everywhere. I see a lawsuit for sure. The younger group was well composed and you can tell they were trying to keep calm and keep dancing. I even saw them call the owner or manager to have security escort them out. I saw the young group get failed again as they did not have their car ready and security left them there exposed for over 20 mins I would say and 2 security guards walk out on them. Leaving them set up it felt like. If they were told to escort someone stay with them or keep them in a safe location. I saw one of the girls get assaulted by the old lady as she was being escorted out and security did not do anything. That young girl really held herself together and she probably respected her elders. I must say that group really had patience because they looked extremely upset and it looks like they were ready to handle anything but they chose to be the "grown ups" better people here. La descarga should not have that many people when clearly they can't control the crowd. The group obviously paid for a table and the general admission people (old people) did not get kicked out or any actions were taken for their behavior. I even saw a random girl at the bar get hit a heavy glass ashtray. It's unsafe. I felt unsafe being there. It was sad to see the old people couldn't compose themselves and the young people did and tried to do everything correctly. We were all talking about it as we all were in the middle of the chaos. I've been here multiple times and I see it happen here more and more. They don't even pat people on the way in or check IDs. I was scared a shooting was going to happen but harm for sure. I hope it never gets to this. Fire hazards and all types of codes and rules being broken! I see a complaint coming their direction soon if one isn't on the way already. It's a beautiful and fun place... but something must be done to keep it safe and thriving. It has been one of my favorite places and top to go to spots. Get this safety thing fixed asap. It would be a shame to see it get a bad rep if something was to happen. This is the 3rd time I witness security issues like this. Other places don't tolerate any of this.
