Super cute spot! It's a real nice set up inside! They have a dj going on & a little dance floor, some rooftop views, a beautiful looking bar. We had a girls night here & the bouncers were actually super friendly & sweet! There was one that was like 7 ft tall he was so kind & helpful, I was so shocked seeing someone that tall so we had a few laughs lol Another bouncer offered us some free drink tickets which was great!! But I will say there drinks are not good, idk maybe we didn't order the right drinks... we started off with a cucumber drink, the bartender said he could make it at my friends request & it was realllllly awful... I hated that we had to pay $20+ for that lol so next drink we decided to skip over that bartender & try a new one & got a different drink & it was just okay, nothing special, also wasn't the greatest. I believed sometimes opinions don't matter, decided to try this myself since we were staying close by. Immaculate vibes, absolutely adorable and beyond chic. Drink was salty... apparently they are aware the drink, la rose, would be "doing that salty thing", so maybe it isn't in my palate. I got another drink, that one was amazing. The came the burrata. For $23, you get the 1 whole slice of toast ( cut in half) and the cheese with the pesto. SUPER SALTY! I don't know what was happening but it seemed like they really wanted to make everything salty. So... ok fine. But with that being said, we each had once slice of bread, we ordered more bread ($4) for a slice cut in half.... This spot offers spectacular views of the city. It's located next to the rooftop pool on the top of The Hollywood Grande. They have umbrellas and sun shades, in case it gets too sunny. At night, there was always a line out the door, but we did get to experience brunch. For brunch, we got the chia pudding, pancakes, breakfast sandwich, and American breakfast. I loved the chia pudding. I'm going to see if I can recreate it at home. It was that good! The breakfast sandwich was pretty big and served with a side of crispy potatoes. The potatoes were really good. They were crispy, but not overly oily. The American breakfast plate was also plenty big. The pancakes were really good and came with freshly whipped vanilla cream. This probably isn't the most accurate review since I didn't actually eat or drink here, but I had to write about how nice this rooftop was! I was here for a birthday, and I almost didn't go due to sheer laziness, but I live about 3 blocks away so I really had no excuse not to go. Same side of the street as Mother Wolf, the entrance for Bar Lis is the elevator behind the velvet rope on the sidewalk. I was guided by a nice door guy who gave us access to the top floor. A host stand is right in front as you exit the elevator, and if you turn right from there, you see the fountain in the bar area. If you keep walking, you'll see seating and a dance floor, continuing around to the pool area (had you gone left at the host stand, you would have encountered this area first). Upon arriving early, it wasn't so busy and people were still eating dinner in the same room as the bar/fountain. About an hour later, it was packed! This was on a Saturday, so I shouldn't be surprised. Ended up leaving the party on the earlier side, but I certainly won't hesitate if someone else has their birthday here. read more

That's a good summation of my time at Bar Lis! I'm unsure of the dress code but definitely wear something cute or sophisticated. I'd hate to be underdressed here. You walk to the right of the hotel entrance and find a gentleman at the ready to whisk you inside to the elevators. Hop in and head to the rooftop where we were greeted by a beautiful, tall hostess with a smile. The hospitality here was certainly top notch. We were seated in direct view of the Hollywood hills sign and with perfect views of the sunset. While I want to believe every seat has a great view, we didn't even have to get up to take some amazing photos. A great place to catch up with friends or for an intimate date. Our server was beyond sweet and had great recommendations. Very short review here in that everything was pretty amazing and they are very accommodating. We had some table neighbors that seemed to be a bit more "hyper" than the vibe but it was non issue and handled well. The drinks were amazing, tasty, and potent. My favorite was definitely the Bonnie & Clyde, so give that a shot if you enjoy gin. I didn't use the restrooms but I wish I had to ensure it all matched the vibe they have going. I highly suggest making a reservation. We came here for a relatively early dinner at 6:45pm. It was still quite bright. You do get a good view of Hollywood. I suggest making a reservation for 7pm so you can catch the sunset better. Sunset is around 8pm during summer in LA. This is a roof-top French inspired restaurant, lounge and bar serving a mix of French and Southern California cuisine. For appetizers, we got the Dungeness Crab Cake and the Roasted Carrots. The carrots were cooked nicely and the sauce it came with (which was comprised of sumac yogurt, mint and almonds) exuded great minty flavor and a nice crunch. The crab cake was just ok. For the main courses, the Roasted Chicken came out surprisingly delicious. The exterior was crispy without being dry and the stung honey combined with the Jimmy Nardello Peppers gave this dish a delicious combination of sweet, spicy and savory. The portion was bigger than I expected. My partner got the Smashed Cheeseburger. That was pretty good too. The food, ambiance were both really good. Service was lacking. The servers are really attractive. I just wish they could be more attentive, then this place would deserve 5 star! This restaurant is located inside the Thompson Hotel. There is a side entrance for Bar Lis, and the area opens up for dancing on many nights after 10pm. read more

I honestly have no idea how this establishment is still open. After reading prior reviews, I can say with confidence that they are accurate--underage patrons are being let in. Security allegedly takes $100 and allows minors under 21 to enter. We went to celebrate my son's birthday, and the experience was ruined almost immediately. The security staff was extremely rude, and we ended up leaving altogether. There is absolutely no reason to treat paying customers poorly. Making an hourly wage doesn't justify acting entitled or disrespectful. Before even reading the reviews, I turned to my husband and said there was no way everyone inside was over 21--and unfortunately, I was right. Bar Lis is a beautiful venue, but the sound system is terrible and the management is even worse. I truly hope someone else considers buying this place and completely redoing it. I had booked tickets for their Jazz night last Tuesday and came with a group of friends. When we got there, we decided we wanted to eat and asked about booking a table for 5. The host let us know the cost which was 350 for 5 which was soo reasonable! The 350 goes towards your food/drink spend. The portions weren't super huge but the food was tasty! This is such a cute place! I came here for an after party for a film premiere and had a lovely time! The staff working there were all friendly and the ambiance was lovely! The rooftop was gorgeous with fantastic views of the city. The seating was very comfortable and I felt relaxed and at ease being there. I didn't end up ordering anything but my friend got a drink and told me it was very tasty and perfectly balanced. She loved how strong it was. Me and my girls always have a great time at Bar Lis, specifically on Tuesdays! SUCH a vibe. We went recently again and were so hungry since we didn't have chance to grab food before going, although the kitchen was about to close, Cole (I believe he said he's the manager) took great care of us! Sat us quickly and treated us with care and attention the entire time. Not to make it about race but as a Black woman I've had many odd experiences being overlooked in nice places in LA. But Cole went above and beyond for us. We felt so welcome and special. The host/server with blonde hair was rude from the start didn't greet us or walk us to the table just pointed. During ordering he had a sassy dismissive attitude. At the end the check was wrong and after fixing it I paid cash and he kept over 45 dollars assuming I didn't want change which is completely unacceptable. If you like waiting in line for no reason, this is your place. I had a social event here last night and they would not allow some attendees up even though there weren't a lot of people and the event was ending soon. Although they do not post this in their hours, so I'm not sure how true it is, from 9:30-10 pm they do not allow people up. It's a very strange way to run a business, but if it works for them I'm sure things won't change. Additionally some of the staff were very rude when we tried to explain the situation. Their attitude was very haughty, which is not a good look. Once we were finally allowed to go up the place was dead. Some of the people from the event left immediately due to the miscommunications at the line, and some left because the overall vibe was very off. They don't allow you to drink outside, so if you're feeling like taking the scene in while sipping a cocktail you're out of luck. Maybe things change for the better, such as improved communications between staff and guests, rethink that no drinks outside policy, and let go of a silly rule that deceives people into thinking this place is more popular than it really is. Best of luck to the business, I hope this review helps in some way. For potential patrons, there are much more fun and better places in LA to go. Gilles is a perfect host + gentleman and made us feel at home. my friend and i loved our drinks, we ordered the "mon cherie" and "bang-bang." the beautiful entrance leads you to an elevator where you enter into a courtyard style bar, and to your right is the lounge area. from there, you can find multiple doors to the outside walkways and bars. magical experience, intoxicating ambiance, impeccable service. 5/5 read more

Got charged $30ish $40 dollars without tip inside and got the same thing in the outside bar and had a $79 charge. Tried to dispute it but the bar lied to the bank, based on my credit card agent. This is a pretty solid rooftop bar in terms of views. Here, if you request outdoor seating, you could see, from a fair distance, the Hollywood Sign! It may be hard to get it as a picture with drinks, but you can easily see it through the window nonetheless. The outdoor seating faces the view north, so sunset still has some color but not as vibrant as if you sat facing west. We made reservations just in case, but it wasn't busy at all when we went around 6pm on a Thursday, around the time of golden hour. We requested outdoor seating and we were granted that with views facing the Hollywood Sign. We budgeted additional time for parking since valet is like $30 but you can find street parking without much issue if you budget 15-30 minutes circling around the neighborhood, as it is around the highly trafficked area of Hollywood. We tried the Bang Bang and Summer Spritz cocktails, both of which were $20 before tax and tip. Price is fairly high for the quality of drinks, but the drinks were not bad in any manner. It's just that compared to other rooftop bars, let alone regular bars, the quality misses the mark. However, the drinks do look kind of pretty, and the ambience is excellent. Service is okay as it takes a while to get requests from a server, which was a bit strange given it was not busy. Overall, this could be a nice spot for drinks for a date or to socialize and catch up with friends, but don't really expect excellent quality cocktails for a bar. read more

My local friend made a reservation for 6pm on a Saturday night for drinks. We were undecided if we would stay for dinner. We took an Uber over and were surprised that the valet said to wait in line to get in. It was pretty early. There was one guy there in front of us. But they quickly let us in. The place was relatively empty when we arrived. The atmosphere was perfect. A fountain with water provided a relaxing feeling. The perfect flattering lighting, view of the Hollywood hills, music loud enough to hear and low enough to talk all added to the ambiance. It was a little chilly but there were heat lamps. Our server was excellent. Falcivar? She described the cocktails perfectly so we could make choices that would satisfy us. I got the tuna tartare. Both our appetizers were excellent. The tuna had a kick but it was fresh. The burrito was a bit unique because it had a butternut squash (seasonal) sauce. The pistachios elevated the dish. And added crunch. It was a cold, foggy day in Los Angeles. The Thompson Hotel moved their breakfast from the Terrace to the Bar Lis. The heater was on. The place is cozy and the decor is on point. Our waiter also served us last night when we came in for a drink. He was great both times. My friend ordered the French toast. She thought it was OK. It looked very dark.
