La Diagonal is a quaint Mexican restaurant in Harlem. The service here is great. Our servers were super friendly and gave some great suggestions. I ordered a hibiscus margarita which was delicious! Followed this up with shrimp tacos and churros which were also really great. Points off because the menu was quite small imo and I felt I didn't have many options to choose from for entrees and apps. They prices are also on the higher end, so probably not a place I'd frequent often.

This restaurant has such a cozy and charming atmosphere! The warm lighting and cute rustic decor make it an ideal place for a relaxed meal or a date night. It wasn't crowded on a Saturday night. Their staff is super nice and attentive. Our meal was yummy. We shared crab guacamole, chicken fajitas and steak tacos. It's definitely worth a repeat visit.

Small portions and above average prices! No happy hour on Friday as stated above on this page! I met up with some friends on a Friday night and we sat at a "heated" outdoor table. I liked how we had our own private little room but the quality of the heat lamp was poor so make sure you bundle up! We ordered a few different spicy margaritas $15, which ended up not being spicy at all. We were also charged an extra $2 for asking for it spicy which was odd to me. Presentation of the drinks was great; they looked classy and like the bartender took his/her time. Service was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. For food, we had the octopus, shrimp quesadilla, queso dip and enchiladas. I thought the quality of the food was great but the portions were small and prices were above average! It might be worth it to try and come during happy hour Monday-Thursday. Not sure if I'll be back only because I didn't feel the prices were worth it.

first time visiting harlem, ny and this little gem caught my eye. it's cute on the outside but the ambiance and decor when you go inside is stunning. there are two outside seating areas as well. loved sitting in the patio facing the street; as a visitor to the city i love to see everything that's happening. the service was okay, just needs a little more patience. the menu options are very limited, definitely wasn't expecting that part. happy hour isn't really much of a happy hour; $12 for two small corn tortilla tacos and no sides included --ehhh. also if you so want sides they are $7 each. drinks on hh are normal pricing for drinks. the pricing on the regular menu was up there. personal opinion this place is too expensive for the amount and quality of the food. didn't really see much that caught my eye so i got the chicken tacos and yucca fries. chicken tacos were just okay and the fries were overcooked (they were so hard) and extremely salty. the red sangria was tasty. the rest of my party tried the quesadilla, shrimp enchiladas, and more tacos. tried a little of the enchiladas it was okay but not something i would get an order of. the experience was cool but definitely don't think i would be visiting next time i'm in town.

Atmosphere: 5/5 Ceviche: 4.3/5 Tacos:3/5 So So beautiful. As soon as you walk in, you feel welcomed and feel warm. It almost feels like you're in Mexico City/ Polanco. Everyone is welcoming and friendly. The fish ceviche was pretty on point. I would have loved some additional cucumber or maybe maíz for added texture. It was seasoned just right. I was hoping for more and something else but couldn't put my finger on it. It brought me back to ceviche I had in Peru but also mourning that dish too. The meat (steak) on the tacos was cooked perfectly which just enough rareness. The tortilla could have been a little more fresh for my tasting. There wasn't a salsa provided but we didn't ask so maybe they do have them. I know they do not have chips and salsas. The tacos could have had a little more umph. (Sorry no pic)

Went to this hidden gem on a rainy Sunday night. The decor inside the restaurant was beautiful. Definitely feels upscale. I asked the waiter for some cocktails recommendations and honestly forgot what they were called but they were definitely strong and good! We ordered the chicken tacos and shrimp quesadillas with sweet plantains (to share) Finally, we enjoyed some churros. Loved the food! Definitely recommend!

I went there Sunday evening with friends. The restaurant is small but beautiful decorated. We was the only table from time we walk in until we leave. The food took a while to be ready but definitely worth it. The guacamole came fast and it was very good. The rest of the order came hoooot real temperatures soooo delicious the steak the chicken the cheese all of them so good cooked. Definitely worth the price. If you like margaritas like me take the pitcher it's like 6-7 glasses definitely worth it

A friend and i had reservations for 1pm on Sunday for brunch. We were immediately seated and our waiter was great. When we first sat down it wasn't busy so our waiter was able to recommend drinks and brunch meals. As it got busier our waiter -he was the only waiter (and it got busy fast around 2pm -typical NYC brunch rush) we waited around for our drink orders way you long.. Most of the tables in our section were getting pretty frustrated with the lack of service. A few guests seated near us got up to order their drinks at the bar. It wasn't our waiters fault.! He was busy and he was trying his best to accommodate all the tables. Which wasn't fair to him. For a NYC brunch he should of not been the only waiter on the floor!!!! Aside for the service our food and drink were delish. I had the chorizo hash and yuca fries-it was delicious and very filling. My friend had the shrimp tacos. She enjoyed her tacos. For cocktails I had the prosseco lychee mimosa which was delish and refreshing. We also had the mezcal margarita. Spicy, strong w a kick. Solid. For dessert we had the churros w dark chocolate dipping sauce. Churro were perfectly crispy and the inside w a cream filing. And w the chocolate dipping sauce. A party in your mouth. I really liked the food and vibe of this place. My only complaint was the service-our waiter did the best he could. But on Sunday for brunch , he should have had more help. I hope to come back for dinner soon. Bc honestly the food was solid good. I just didn't like the way they had 1 waiter busting his ass to attend all the tables during brunch.

Tacos are a little expensive but was indeed delicious. The guac was fresh but maybe needed a little lime. The chips were excellent, long and great for scooping the guac. Had a Dos Equis to wash it down. It's a beautiful venue and service was prompt.

My son took me here for brunch, and how happy I was he did. We had the carnitas hash, the Chorizo guacamole, and Mexican toast. Everything was delicious. The Chorizo was fried crispy and topped of some of the best guacamole I've had. The carinitas in the hash had a touch of spice, potatoes had crispy edges, and I usually don't eat sunny side up, but they cooked mine where it wasn't too runny. I checked out their happy hour menu, and yes, I will definitely be coming back here.

If you are looking to attend a rave with music blasting your brains out in addition to subpar food this is your place. I cannot believe they allow a DJ to play on the sidewalk on a Sunday night. This place is trash. This is Harlem not a cruise ship. This is NOT a neighborhood spot. read more

Came here for dinner and had a really great time. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're really hungry as portions are small. I had the empanadas, shrimp taco, and elote. Everything was super flavorful and tasty! My favorite was the corn- very tender and creamy. The drinks are strong and the place has a nice vibe. I recommend it! read more

Ambience 8/10 Food 8/10 Service 8.5/10 I had the veggie enchiladas which were well Made... flavors were refined with fresh ingredients .. my husband had egg Benedict which he loved.. But what I would come here again for are the cocktails .. we ordered Mayan summer and hecho in Harlem which were both spectacular Mayan summer was with tangy with mango and spicy from habanero.. it had a hint of smokiness from the lined spice. the Hecho was with cucumber jalepeno infused jimador , mezcal.. yummmm The place was lively, bright and spacious with warm and attentive staff! read more

Went here for a first date and they ended up being a total creep but I still didn't let that detract from the awesome experience at La Diagonal! Had a few drinks to get through the date and they were well worth it. Tasted good and made the disappointing company slightly more tolerable. Highly recommend ! read more

I sat at the bar and asked for a club soda - I saw he had a can of club soda. The bartender opens a giant bottle of club soda peregrino, pours me a glass. Then I say I need to bounce and he charges me ~$10 for the whole bottle. What the heck. It's not even like the bar was busy and I was taking business. I was there for ten minutes. read more

The service was not great. I'm not sure if the server was new but this girl checked in on us every 3 minutes. We could barely have a conversation without being interrupted. I had a portion left on my place and my entire side and she asked me twice if I was done and if she could take my plate. The ceviche says they have plantain chips but they're actually little strips sprinkled on top not actual chips you can eat it with. Overall the food was okay but pretty pricy. The decor was nice but I'm so turned off by the service I don't want to come again for the food just being okay. read more

4 star for the service and atmospher 3.5 star for the food Came here on a Sunday night. There's no wait we got seated right away. We ordered traditional guacamole, pork tacos , and Mexican street corn. The corn was very fresh and flavourful. The guacamole had a bit of spiciness to it that was really good. But the pork taco was just ok. First, the visual display of the pork taco was not good, and it tasted just alright. The pork was kinda dry. And it $16 for 3 tacos. The prices were a bit high compare to the quality of the food. The services and the atmosphere of the restaurant was really good. The interior decoration of the restaurant was amazing. I've heard their cocktails are really good. But we didn't order any drinks today. It's not too difficult to find a parking spot near the restaurant either. read more

Went here as a group of 10 for a birthday. The service wasn't good from the get go but maybe understandable for a large group... First, one of our unused water glasses on the table had lipstick marks so clearly had not been cleaned. Food finally came and we started with multiple servings of guacamole for the table. It was super mediocre. It needed a large helping of salt and pepper. The avocado wasn't fully mashed so there were large chunks. Some people complained of too much cilantro. Most of us ordered tacos. You get 3 tacos for $20+. All of our orders came out at different times and they were seriously scrambling to find some of our plates. I had steak tacos which tasted good but were oozing grease. It was just steak and sauce...meh. Pork belly tacos were good with complex flavors and lots of toppings. Really not worth going again. I'm surprised to see it has 4 stars here. read more

This place is AWESOME!!! It was a little confusing once arriving since there wasn't a sign but once inside it was a really nice intimate space. The drinks not only looked amazing but they tasted just as good. The mixologist were also really friendly and welcoming. I'd definitely come back again. read more

Well, excellent decor. Trendy. Large open front. It is Mexican but the decor is more trendy. Service was good. The food is very good. Not excellent but very good. I would do this again but the taco eaters were less excited. The ceviche is outstanding. The Brussels sprouts were great. The spinach was great as well. Oddly the tacos were the disappointment. read more

Relatively new spot in my hood. The good: 42+ brands of Tequila/Mescal, diverse tapas style menu along with entrees, very good drinks . . . The name Agaveria says it all! The bad: IF there is any, you'll have ti discover on your own. This is a VERY nice, out of the norm spot worth exploring! read more

My fiance and I have been living in the neighborhood for a few years and are always excited to see a nice new restaurant open! We tried it out this past Friday night. The atmosphere is dark and trendy with classy Mexican background music. The host sat us right away and the server was very attentive. We started out with some cocktails...I had the Cazuelitas which was served in a clay pot and very delicious (surprisingly strong). He had a spicy cucumber/mezcal cocktail which had great flavor. We shared spicy beans (flavored with bacon...a generous portion served with chips for dipping...yum), a lamb shank appetizer (small, but perfectly cooked and seasoned), a sea bass ceviche (incredibly fresh), and possibly the best beef rib taco I've ever had (very small portion size, but perfectly cooked and drizzled with delicious sauces). The food was literally incredible. Overall, upscale delicious food, great atmosphere, attentive staff...a little on the pricier side. A great new addition to the neighborhood! read more

Absolutely love this new addition to our Harlem neighborhood. The food scene gets better everyday. Diagonal has excellent Mexican/tapas cuisine. Food is fresh and super delicious. They have a tequila list a mile long. Loved the guacamole, tuna ceviche and duck tacos. Caesar the waiter/host could not have been nicer. The place has great decor and a fab vibe. Will be taking everyone I know! Stopped by for the third time. Everyone I bring loves the place and the food. Loved my fish tacos! The Cornish hen with mole was unbelievable! read more

The Fish Tacos and Lobster ceviche is everything, thank you Omar and Edith for their hospitality. I told them I smelt something funky coming from down the street and immediately they got a hose and bleach water and cleaned the entire area....... it wasn't them it was the spot next door and they even went to them and they did nothing. I'm coming here again and again. Come here for the hospitality and ambiance hands down! Thank you Omar. read more

Super cool spot for food and drinks. They have $10 happy hour margaritas and small eats that range from $9-$10. We came here the minute they opened and it was so calming and service was good. The first time we came here service was a little slow but other than that the food was great. Would definitely come back. read more

Was there the first time this past weekend. The food was pretty good. Unfortunately, the service was horrendous. Waiter had a demeanor as though we were inconveniencing him! Also, did not check in on us one time. Over charged my friend's card and than asked if it was ok? Who does that?!? This was my first time not leaving a tip in a restaurant in 54 years. read more

I made the mistake of going on Cinco De Mayo on which they were serving a "Special Menu". A regular margarita was $18, which is $3 more than what is listed on their website. It was served in an 8 oz plastic clear solo cup that wasn't even filled up unlike the 14 oz for $15 posted on their site. The chicken quesadilla, which was also $18 but $15 on their site, was a 5in kiddie portion tortilla cut into 4 small wedges. It was the smallest quesadilla I have ever seen!!!! If I hadn't just returned from Mexico I would have thought I was crazy. I get that restaurants are still recovering from COVID but trying to price gouge people with mediocre food and increased prices ain't it. I will not be back. read more

5 Yelp stars because I LOVE this place! We came on a Saturday night and we were able to get a table right away. I'll just start by saying AMBIANCE & DECOR. It is such a beautiful and unique restaurant. So many cute details in the windows and the walls. They also have doors that open up to outdoor seating. I got a romantic vibe from here but its definitely a place you can prob catch up with friends. The food was on point. We tried the guac and the salsa platter which were pretty standard. The stand out stars were definitely the steak tacos and the Enchilada de camarones. Both super flavorful. The service was standard I have no complaints there. Who I think may be the owner stopped at our table and asked how everything was and he was kind. I highly suggest and I will be back! read more

Fun spot! Seating not as tight as it appears at this upbeat uptown Mexican locale. The guacamole was delicious and served immediately. The steak tacos a winner, the quest fundido delicious and the tuna tartare ceviche was fresh. Only disappointment was no more churro's! More expensive than expected, I guess 119th St is now the Upper West Side? Go! It's a winner... read more

We have come to this restaurant a few times and the service is always exceptional the group started with the crab guacamole and ordered the prefix brunch they have. Our party had about 12 people and Nicole was the best she made sure we had everything we needed while we waited for our food. I'd recommend this place for a good brunch and great ambiance. We will be coming back for sure! read more

I'm giving La Diagonal a 5 star review because despite any other shortcoming it could have, those frozen margaritas are truly outstanding! I have used them as reference for reviews and critiques of countless frozen margaritas around the country, and I have yet to find one that comes close. I could go on and on for pages on how worthy of accolades the margs are worth, but instead I simply encourage anybody to stop by La Diagonal and experience them without hesitation. read more

I never like to give less than a 3 stars but only thing I enjoy from this place was the Mexican corn. The customer service is subpar and the menu was unappealing. My guy order chicken stuffed with cheese and spinach, that he was forcing himself to eat because he was hungry. I might go back to give them the chance to get a 4-5 stars because I believe that have potential and a beautifully designed atmosphere. read more

The food and drinks are good and the place is cute. too bad the staff is super rude. We spent a lot of money, the place is not cheap! We had several cocktails appetizers entrees desserts. The waiter did not help to get our orders right, had an attitude and as the grande finale turned the lights up to the highest setting ( we observed thare many settings) even tho we made sure he knew we were on way out and just waiting on an uber. And the water tastes like mildew read more

First and foremost, thank you Jimmy, because when I tell you this man went above and beyond to make everyone feel like family at his establishment, I truly mean it. Jimmy personally checked in with everyone going table to table making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, asking if everything was good from the drinks, atmosphere, music and food was to satisfaction because he genuinely wanted everyone to enjoy and especially told my husband it's a blessing to hit a milestone, celebrating with family and friendsand hope his place made it a memorable one. This time I caught myself walking past on a beautiful Saturday with a five second delay and turned around and walked into Harlem Hops. Initially I thought I'll have a beer and keep it moving. I ordered a canned Hefeweizen, Deep Fried Highlighter Hefeweizen. Yep, that's the name and it was great. It supposed to have a banana note, but that was barely detectable. The clove note was there and it rode the top of this summer Hefeweizen nicely. Given this is one of the canned beers, they may have this anytime. Then I had American Pale Ale on tap, another great choice for a summer day: crisp, refreshing, cloudy light amber in color and unfiltered reminding you of a Hefeweizen. It has a slight citrus fruity flavor to my palate. There are sixteen taps. The taps change with the kegs, the season and what the owner sources from local breweries and beyond. Meanwhile, I'm having good conversations with folks who are regulars and the woman behind the bar, giving great recommendations. I forget the woman's name, but she is great. You can sample whatever they have on tap. She is good at understanding your taste profile and making recs. They also have a limited food menu. The food was great! However, service was horrible. They forgot our drink orders and 3 different people returned to the table 4 different times to take the same order. Then they confused our drink order with another table. When we finally got our drinks, after about 30 minutes & at the end of our meal, they blamed the bar for the delay. However, the bar was nowhere near busy and the bartender at one point was just standing doing nothing as we waited. The drinks were good, not worth the wait. When we ordered to dessert we had to ask for cutlery twice. They dropped the dessert off and 10 minutes after it had been obvious they had no intentions of giving us cutlery. When we asked the first time, a person (who wasn't our server) came back 5 minutes later and stated "Oh I forgot". Then offered us a round of shots which never came. We weren't upset about the shots not coming because at this point we wanted to leave. When we left, we paid in cash and headed out. The server chased us down the block, yelling, "HEY". When we finally realized someone was speaking to us we stopped and turned around, she asked us if we paid. We said that we had and left it all in cash on the table. She stated "Oh you left it at the table. Okay." It's obvious she did not even check the table & decided to that chasing us down the block like we had dined and dashed was more appropriate. When it came time to order food....out of Burgers....I mean ground beef is readily available at any supermarket isn't it? Server didn't bother to let us know any of this prior to our order.
