Worst food ever Tampiquena steak was hard and flavorless. Guacamole was not edible and gross. We still ate this plate except the avocado, because it was edible but the flavor was not there. The chilaquiles came with hashbrowns and 2 eggs. The whole dish was inedible. The hashbrowns were so salty and the green salsa tasted like it came from the can. The whole pale was left uneaten. The nachos were also not good. Beans and tostadas were good, but the meat was off and the guacamole was so old with a dark green/ brown. This plate was picked on but not even half was eaten. Everyone arrived home with stomach aches. We let the waitress know the food was bad and she apologized and mentioned she would let the manager know. We left and the manager checked us out but he never even acknowledged anything. 78 dollars in the trash. I'm not sure how this restaurant is open but at least we now know this restaurant we will never return to. read more

From Arizona but whenever I'm in El Paso this is definitely the breakfast place to go to. The chilaquiles are soooo good both red and green.

3 of us went to have breakfast only 2 other tables were occupied 1 had their food we ordered 2 menudo and huevos rancheros 30 minutes later still no food asked the waitress what was up , owner over herd and got involved and vary defensively said it takes a long time to cook stake ! we did not order stake would not have time to wait for food and get back to work so we left! read more

Compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area, this is my least favorite. The menudo is very good and served every day, it's their only redeemable quality though. For 2 burritos was $8, I wouldn't recommend this place but instead go to La Taquiza, Crystal's, literally anywhere else but here. read more

On a recent trip to ELP to visit my Mom, this was one of the last places we tried, and one of the better places IMHO. La Dona has a very big menu selection. I came here for the chicken tortilla soup. I wasnt let down. The wait staff was fast and friendly. There is a cute cafe vibe. Also there is a group of regulars that gives the place an added warm feeling to it. Though we came for breakfast, we all ordered lunch stuff. I opted for the chile rellenos. Yum! Kids both got chicken flauta plates. My Mom said she wasnt too hungry but managed to clean her plate just fine :-) Next trip to ELP, I am coming back !! read more

AHHH La Doña, la doña. Que lastima! I was invited to try the menudo, an El Paso traditional "souplike" dish. And unfortunately I don't have much to say about this bowl. The restaurant is clean and the staff friendly but not very attentive. The chips and salsa was also tasty although the little bowl the salsa comes in is too small to dip a chip, you have to karate chop the chip to make it fit. My first impression for the meal was the bread (eh) and the chopped onion and cut lime. Both the onion and lime were a day old so I didn't use it (see picture) the menudo was average at best, and more than a few times I had to remove pieces of the meal from my mouth because it was too chewy and inedible. For the first time I didn't finish a bowl of menudo. THE BOTTOM LINE: if you want menudo make the drive to one of the many other good options in El Paso and skip La Doña. .....oh well read more

Okay...English is lacking but the menu is in English and she did try. The salsa was tasty although the chips were just a tad greasy. Food was decent-Not OMG but decent. Travis counted the waitress walking by our table and on two occasions dropping off our breakfast a total of 7 times and did not fill up his empty glass placed on the edge of the table. But she was nice, just not great waitress material. I guess if we were in the area we would give it a second try. read more

3.5 Stars We decided to go back for breakfast and we were very happy we did. The waitress was very friendly, attentive and had a great attitude. She even brought us complimentary chips and salsa so that was cool. Not the first food that comes to mind in the morning but they were very good. I found out they serve breakfast all day so that's a huge plus. After looking over their menu, we made our decision. I got the Enchiladas Montado which included three cheese enchiladas, choice of egg (scrambled for me), red sauce (or green if you prefer), hash browns and beans. I knew this would be a filling meal and I was right. My girlfriend got the pancakes with eggs and fresh fruit. The pancakes were pretty fluffy, the eggs were also tasty and the fruit was fresh. There were strawberries, papaya and cantaloupe in the cup. It was a nice combo to get sweet and savory so we shared our meals. The bill was under twelve bucks which still amazes me for the quality of the food. Extra star for affordability and great service. If you're looking for a good breakfast at a great price, this place is definitely the right choice. read more

It was our first time here tonight and we will definitely be back! I totally forgot to take pictures of the delicious food so I'm hoping my review will make you want to go try their food. When you walk in you can sit yourself and the wait staff will be with you soon. Our waitress was Valerie and she was fast, professional, and very nice. She brought out chips and salsa and the salsa was spicy and flavorful. Another great thing about this place is they sell breakfast all day!! My son ordered pancakes and they were fluffy and Bubba approved :) I ordered chicken flautas and the plate came with beans, rice, salad, sour cream and guacamole. The best place for a Mexican restaurant is near a gym. Well maybe not, but looking at the gym in the parking lot after I eat, I feel a wee bit guilty. With the plethora of Mexican food places in the Sun City, nothing really stands out. This isn't one of the exceptions. The one thing I do like here is the chilaquiles. You would think that where we are there dishes would be spicy. However, with the exception of the last time I went, there was very little heat to the food. The servers are typically nice (but you have to be careful if you don't speak Spanish). The one thing you might want to avoid (if you don't smell it first) is the Menudo. I have ordered this as takehome one afternoon. When we opened it up, the tripe was not cleaned/cooked the way it's supposed to. read more

I came from New Mexico to visit my mother. So I wanted to have some good Mexican food. I remembered La Dona,, which was one of my dad's all time favorite restaurant when he was alive. Well It wasn't what it used to be. The enchilada sauce was no enchilada sauce. It lacked flavor and tasted as if it was mixed with possibly tomato sauce. The tacos and gorditas fell apart at one bite. The caldo had no flavor. I guess living in New Mexico has spoiled me with fresh red or green chile. They must have changed owners or cooks. Wouldn't go again. I do give credit to the waitress she was friendly and attentive. read more

This is a great little hole in the wall. My favorite thing on the menu is the Ranchero Steak or the Ranchero Steak & Eggs. It has such great flavor and is priced unbelievably considering how good it is. Their salsa is really good too, wished they brought out more with your chips though. I like their soups too, caldo de res or caldo de pollo. I can't help but stop there after a workout on a weekend since it's so close to the gym...but hey, at least my favorite thing there has tons of protein in it...and tons of flavor. read more

They are not for you if you don't speak Spanish. I don't think any of their people speak English or if they do they deny that they do. The menu, when I went there, was in Spanish with no English translation. I gave up and left since I would be ordering mystery food. read more

I liked it. The Woodman's Club had our annual Mother / Daughter Luncheon there this past Saturday. I had their Mexican plate and it was delicious. I'm usually skeptical when ordering this plate at a restaurant I am not familiar with because sometimes the Chile relleno it too hard. Theirs was perfect. Their salsa was very tasty. I also ordered three orders of tacos to take home to my kids and they also said they were very good. It's not on my side of town but I would definitely stop by to eat if I'm in the area. read more

I eat here some mornings when I just want some huevos rancheros. Is good food some days can lack the spicy heat but still good. You get chips and salsa when you sit down. I have not had a problem with a language barrier here the ones who don't speak English know the menu so just stick to that. Good coffee always fresh. Can't say for any other meals but breakfast but that is great. All the servers are really nice and friendly. Some even are starting to remember what I order lol. Is that a sign I go to much? lol The decor is a little odd lol Looks like someone put Southwest art up with Home Interiors stuff, but I like the food and service and everything is supper clean. Had lunch yesterday at LA Dona with two Co- workers. We were greeted with disrespect. We asked at 11:10am if they had a lunch special, and we're told by waitress that she had no idea what the special for lunch was, if we wanted to wait 5 minutes she would let us know, she left the menus at are table and walked off after taking our drink order. She came back with our drinks, verbally told us the various choices. Having read the menu, it stated lunch was available at 11:am. We ordered our meals, asked if she could bring more salsa and not just a small 1 inch wide little cup, waitress quickly responded, she would bring a big bowl but was going to charge us one dollar more. The food was nothing to die for, mediocre if any. Not advisable for Law Enforcement Officers in attire, perhaps that was the issue. read more

This place is a "Must Pass" if you are invited by someone. Don't waste your time and money. Their food and service is below standard. I had a fly land on my food before I had a chance to start eating and the staff did not address my issue. In fact, they took my plate and gave me the bill for the full amount. I informed the manager but he did nothing to rectify the issue... They clearly don't care about doing the right thing for the customer. I have seen this restaurant every time I get my oil changed but never went in,even though a friend told me they make a good steak at a great price. So today my husband and I went in. The place is immaculate, nice and airy, very pretty inside. The staff were very gracious and attentive. Now the good part: excellent fresh food! Homemade refried beans. I just got a bean burrito, plain and simple and it was just over $2. I rarely even eat refried beans because I think they are kind of heavy, but these ones were just right. Not sticky or pasty. My husband got a T-bone steak, eggs, hash browns, refried beans and fresh tomatoes, onions and peppers on the steak, $10.99! Serious! And there was so much he didn't finish! The place has a nice friendly vibe too:) Definitely go! Especially if you're getting your vehicle worked on across the parking lot. This is a hole-in-the-wall place with decent food if you dine in. But you just never know who the cook is. Sometimes the salsa is flavorful with just a hint of spiciness and sometimes it's so hot with chile that I can't eat it. They serve a good lunch crowd but if they don't recognize you, you'll wait. The soup is always great as is the shrimp cocktail. I especially like the one with avocado. The tortilla soup is better than average. They have dinner specials now but you have to get there early, 6:00 p.m., or the dish you want might be sold out. The chicken enchiladas are great but you have to ask for extra sauce, always, ALWAYS. Hubby and I have gone here since it opened and we still see problems with cleanliness in the restaurant--same spots at the same places. The dining in food is much better than the take-out. Take-out is microwaved and dining in is put under the broiler. The wait staff is great even if they don't understand English but don't expect to get even a tortilla chip if you don't pay for it.
