I've been here a handful of times…read more Visit 1: carne guisada plate ordered through the drive-thru, delicious and love convenience. Visit 2: dined in and ordered carne asada plate, delicious. Visit 3: got breakfast thru the drive thru, chilaquiles with egg mixed in, no salsa ranchera They made the corn tortilla chips very soggy and there were ONIONS which I do not like and which was not disclosed, only ate a quarter or the top layer of the plate. Visit 4: was sick with vomiting so got tortilla soup. Chicken was cooked but not tenderized. I liked the one from Cancun's better. Visit 5: brought hubby here. He commented that carne guisada was overcooked, I tasted and agreed. I put this place to the true test by ordering menudo... and they failed. Menudo tasted like they didn't wash tripas after parboiling them. Each bite was initially good follow up by an uncomfortable, dirty aftertaste. My verdict: not bad, just mid. Maybe some issues with quality control. I'll be back to try the seafood though.

I mean the steak was well done but yet juicy almost impossible to do. The enchiladas were flavorful and stuffed with chicken. Pro tip don't forget to ask about their sauce selection it really elevates any dish

What a treat to find in downtown Corpus! After great experiences at El Camino's sister restaurant,…read moreWater Street, we expected good things and were still blown out of the water! Right from the jump, our friendly server brought us complimentary chips with salsa and two sauces. All were delicious and a perfect holdover as we dove into the menu. I am finding that 5 pm is "early" in Corpus and the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, but started to pick up by the time we left. For us, we didn't mind at all as service was attentive and speedy due to the emptiness. We ended up kicking off with drinks in the form of a paloma and a desert rose (I never pass up an opportunity for mezcal) and both were perfectly balanced in flavors. To eat, we shared small dishes including the Tex Mex BBQ oysters, tuna tostadas, and side cheese enchiladas. All three were 10/10 in their own way! The oysters (which I usually prefer raw) had such a deep and developed flavor I could have eaten 12 on my own. The tostadas - a fresh and bright bite welcomed in the heat of the summer. The cheese enchiladas? Simple, but executed perfectly! They were reminiscent of a local place I used to frequent when I was a kid, and have ever since compared all enchiladas to. Rarely do I find a good match, but to my surprise El Camino delivered. As with other businesses in the area, expect to find street parking and to take a bit of a stroll (absolutely worth it when you pop into other places along the way and make an event of it). Once you enter the doors, you are transported into a completely different atmosphere where you no longer feel you are in downtown corpus. The decor is fun and bright, yet welcoming and warm and there is plenty to look at! I look forward to returning to try more!

BUT once my boys were ready to eat I couldn't find any but one and it had a hugeeeee line! I went on a scavenger hunt and found El Camino Comida and Bar!!! I was so relieved. It's pretty obvious that I enjoy taqueria breakfast (brunch for me because I fast daily). Usually on Saturdays I will drive around somewhat aimlessly while listening to the news until something I haven't noticed before catches my eye. Today that was Taqueria El Salto Jalisco! I rarely review a place on my first visit, but I was so impressed with the food quality, atmosphere (especially for a Northside neighborhood taqueria) and service that I felt compelled to give them a nice review. One thing I will elaborate about the service is that they were super accommodating on my à la carte preferences, which can be a minor hiccup to a major challenge at times. Not so here today! They are new, and as with any new restaurant venture, there are many challenges to overcome to achieve and maintain profitability while becoming established. My hopes are that they will be very successful for time to come. I look forward to visiting again in the near-future!
