This bakery is definitely one of my favorites in the area! Things I recommend: the tamales, bolillos, and pan dulce -- all consistently delicious. The pan dulce is always fresh, and the bolillos are honestly some of the best I've had from any bakery in a long time. The place itself is small, and parking can be a bit limited, but it's on a visible corner that's easy to find. Inside, they have a great variety of baked goods and a steady stream of customers, but the service is always quick and friendly. It seems to be family-owned and operated, and the woman who usually works in the evenings is always kind and helpful -- she gets your order together fast, even when it's busy. I usually stop by in the evenings, and I love that they still have plenty of fresh bread and pastries available, even close to closing time. The inside recently got a bit of a facelift -- it looks nicer, even though it wasn't really needed! There's no indoor seating since everything is packaged to go. With the remodel, they also added new menu items like smoothies and specialty juices. I haven't tried those yet, but I did ask about the juice prices, and they seemed a little higher than I expected (though, with how things are these days, that's understandable). The pastries and baked goods are reasonably priced and always worth it. This is the 3rd time I have purchased tamales from La Estrella Bakery, in the past 3 years. Every time the tamales have been excellent with great flavor and the right proportions of meat, sauce and masa. Their Mexican bread is also great. We were in town for a week, we went to another bakery nearby, they didn't have my favorite kind. Lo and behold we saw this place as we headed back home. They had the best ever Elote in chocolate, strawberry and vanilla and traditional cinnamon. Our Pan Dulce was so tasty, soft fresh even on the third day! It was the best pan Dulce we've had in years! Omg I was hesitating when I walked in and I saw all the breads and alot to chose from. Alot of empty bins Obviously that's a good sign because people come in early and get their bread. I took a picture of the bread that I ordered and also order tamales are 3.00 each I got pork, chicken and coke with cheese!!!! One medium champurrado my bill out the door 58.00 !!! So I went home to piss off the ones on a diet because they were going to eat it lol yup I eat because I enjoy food!!! So the chicken tamales had a lot of favor and great taste it a lot of masa it has great favor too!!!! So I did try apple and guava bread taste great bread alittle hard some soft parts!!! Stopped in for tamales and all they had was pork. That's exactly what we were wanting. Thought I would get a half a dozen. We bought some sweets too. One piece looked like a giant Hostess Cupcake, my daughter's choice. We bought some buñelos and a couple cream filled cones. Omg the tamales were huge. They were delicious, filled with red chili and pork. They were juicy and not dry. Have you ever craved something and had them not taste right? This place came through. The service is so dang horrible if you don't know Spanish they discard you. I posted the pic of the lady she is so rude!!! She has a scar on her chin just for reference if people come in contact with her that are non bilingual she refused to help me and walked away because I didn't speak Spanish! Then took the whole line which was long as hell and finally called another older lady who also didn't speak English but she tried so hard to help and did she was very sweet. After I just purchase my stuff rude ass worker had no business saying shit when she didn't even know what was going on. Got two dozen pork tamales while they were a little pricey it was worth it the tamale was stuffed with meat. The service was great, so friendly and efficient. I came in on a weekday during the afternoon I was just buying a couple of bolillos which are behind the counter, when I walked in the lady working the register didn't even acknowledge me. I waited patiently to be assisted and she was gossiping with another employee when she finally took the time to ask me what I wanted she continued to gossip and as the other employee walked away she asked me what I wanted again because apparently she wasn't even listening. This place used to be good. There's a new worker who walks around thinking she's better than everyone. Every time i go in she has this look like I'm bothering her from her phone. This is the Worst place I've been to. Ever. When my husband and I walked we immediately felt yucky the place had no air flow and it smelled more like a gym than a bakery. We have been customers since they were in Highland but today we stopped by to get tamales and pan dulce and when we came out a lady was parked in the middle of the driveway even though it's wide enough for two cars my wife asked her to move over so we can get out. The lady refused because she said someone scratched her car before then she went inside and brought the young lady working the counter out and that girl called my wife a "crazy bitch" and didn't ask that lady to move so we can get out. My review is solely based on their tamales and customer service. The RED tamales are BOMB! The masa is very fluffy and soft, the meat has great flavor and they're cooked to perfection. I've tried the green chicken tamales and those were alright, not my favorite..... I have yet to try the cheese ones. Their champurrado is so good too, Perfect to pair with some red tamales. My husband previously bought tamales here, I called this morning to ask if they had tamales available a lady answered and said they did and that at 10:45am they would have 3 more pots available, long story short we came in and she said she wouldn't have anything until 1pm. This happened yesterday as well. So then my husband asks her well when we called you said you would have some available and then she tells him well I said there is no more with an attitude. They have really bad customer service so I would rather take my business somewhere else. And just as an fyi don't even buy bread here these lady's don't cover the bread and have the door open all the flies get in and land on top of the bread. We like the bread here, when it's fresh. The one on the wall is the older one, not bad but sometimes hard. They have a lot of variety which is good. And they have food there too. We recently decided to try the tamales. They looked huge!! Which I figured it would mostly be masa. But figured we would give them a chance...I was right. One had little meat and some fat with lots of sauce. The other had more meat but still didn't compare to all the masa. Flavor is good though but need more meat.
