Although I often give Mexican restaurants the benefit of the doubt because I adore them, this one was by far the nastiest. I start by speaking gently to the lady on the phone, who is already acting rudely, making it appear as though she is concerned by my question. The birria taco I had was by far the worst I've ever tasted; it was so oily and unseasoned that I was unable to even finish it. The taco was supposed to be crispy, but it was soggy, and the taste was so awful. The other taco I tried had absolutely no seasoning and was really dry. was really awful. On top of that, I called to complain because, as I previously stated, I was unable to consume my meal and wanted to know what further I could do about it. The person on the phone continued stating that it had been ten years and no one had called to complain. I informed her she was a new person and I was phoning to complain about it since it was unpleasant. She told me that I wasn't eating properly since I didn't know how. This is a small restaurants with a few tables inside. There's a component of a small bodega as well with shelves of snacks, condiment, canned food and drinks. The menu is in Spanish and prices are affordable which is typical of mom and pop shops in this neighborhood. The food is so authentic! My family has its favorites - nachos, burritos, taquitos, rice and beans, tostadas, and the tamales. Basically, most of the menu... the agua frescos are excellent as well. But tonight, my BF had the Carne Asada and he was just about done eating when he nearly choked on a broken off piece of baggie tie metal. I complained thru Seamless for a refund and the restaurant said "oh since you ate it, you can't get a refund". So now are you supposed to dig thru every meal looking for trash bits? And of course I wanted a refund on mine too! He only had HALF the baggie tie! We don't know if he ate it or where the heck it went or came from. And now I have to deal with my Bf freaking out that this metal is going to perforate his intestines...sigh. I won't be eating here for a while or maybe not ever. read more

SKIP THIS PLACE! I don't understand how this place has such high ratings. Initial impression: Clean, small Mexican restaurant in Washington Heights that appears to have an actual Mexican, not PR or Dominican, cooking. I ordered one of each taco to try them all out: al pastor, lengua, and carnitas. Al pastor was passable in flavor, but dry. Lengua was ridiculously dry and flavorless. Carnitas were TERRIBLE. Very dry and actually bad tasting. I literally took only one bite of the taco and then spit it back out and threw the taco away. In my experience that taste means they're old and have simply been recycled and reheated, not freshly cooked. Tried my friend's order of rice and beans and, with the tortillas, it was passable. She enjoyed her order of green chicken enchiladas, but the chicken was dry. Pros: the food is affordable for NY standards because the taco special is 3 for $7! The portions are pretty big for the price in this city. I was elated until I actually tasted the food. Also, they take card, but I think there's a $10 min. And, they have bottled Mexican Coca-cola, so that's a win. Most importantly, food is semi-authentic: e.g. They don't put lettuce or tomatoes in their tacos. Cons: the food is mediocre at best. Really dry and flavorless. Avoid the carnitas! As they might actually be a health hazard. And you probably need cash if you're only eating for one. Waitress also never comes back once she serves you your order. Had to get up twice to ask for extra limes. Overall: not a destination. Stop by if you need a Mexican food fix and happen to be in the area because apparently this is what passes for Mexican food in New York, But stick to the al pastor, rice, and beans. read more

All the prices are whited out (which means that tacos are no longer $2 apiece, sadly), but I was feeling too ill to press them to confirm. Avocado and cheese cost extra (50 cents?), but the tacos do come with lime, spicy green salsa, radishes, onions and cilantro. I had a Pastor and a chorizo, avocado on both ($6 total) and Justin Y. had the nachos and horchata. The meats on the tacos were crispier than I had expected (but in a good way - skin?) and the flavors were rich and blended well. I didn't try Justin's horchata, but I had a nacho - yum. Drizzled generously with cheese, sauce and steak, the nachos were delightfully pleasing to the eye - and to the mouth, of course. I had a tortilla chip, which was unexpectedly simultaneously crunchy and soft. I loved the complex, authentic texture, and I'd definitely get them again. The ambiance was surprisingly much nicer than I had expected (from the reviews); there's no waiter service, but the seating is muted and wooden and a great place to just catch up with a friend. It wasn't very crowded at all at 3:30pm, but I don't know what it's like during regular hours. Just had the worst experience of my life with a restaurant in this neighborhood. One would think that with the scarcity of options that are available the ones that are here would treat you better, but in this case it seems they have taken this as free license to be rude. I ordered food this evening for my family and was assured that the food would be there within 30 minutes. I ask if it was possible to have it sooner and they said it shouldn't be a problem. After about 45 minutes I went outside to wait for the food. I finally (over an hour) got a phone call from the delivery guy saying he was here, which he was not. I explained the situation and he hung up on me mid sentence. I called in to the store and they treated me with the same indifference. At one point they ask if I would like to come to the store in person to pick up the order. Please bear in mind that they deliver to this address regularly. They offered a very small discount which I agreed to. After about another 20 minutes the delivery guy finally arrived. He explained that he was sorry that he was late but he had been sent by the restaurant to a different address somewhere not even close. He had to go back to the store to be given the right address. At this point I called back again and ask them if they could do any better than the meager discount they had offered. As soon as I called the restaurant the delivery guy took the food and walked out. The woman said she didn't have time to waste talking to me and hung up on me. I have worked in the service industry myself, but when you call with a valid complaint and get mocked it really makes you question why it was all necessary. A little courtesy can go a long way, hopefully they will change their tune, but until then I would caution anyone from venturing near this establishment. read more

Sorry La Fiesta, for being tardy to the party- I should've reviewed you months ago. I've had every single taco that they have- the $2 versions. The pork one's are my fave- every form of swine that they offer is amazing. The chorizo is salty, but scrumptious. Al pastor is tender and juicy and accompanied with pineapple. The carnitas and the carne enchilada are also very good. I wish I could get a piñata filled with their tacos, and bust it open- now that's my kinda party. The guacamole is chunky and pretty good-$5 will get you a decent sized portion and chips. Nice hole in the wall Mexican place. More of a take out place than sit down, as space is quite limited. Very good fresh guacamole made right in front of you while you wait. You can ask the servers to alter the spiciness to suit your taste. They also make tasty tamales- green is spicier than red. As much as I like this place, it isn't perfect: 1) The tortilla chips that come with the guacamole are too thick and oily. 2) The quality of the food in general can be inconsistent. Several times, I have ordered beef enchiladas. Sometimes the meat is delicious and fresh, other times it's simply eh. 3) This place has a $15 minimum purchase amount for credit cards. A complete waist of $9.00. I've never written a bad review of any restaurant I've tried but I was moved to do so primarily because the service was below par. The Mexican female was extremely snide. Blaring offensive Spanish music and then had the nerve to ask me if I liked it? Laughing it off as if it was nothing What's worst is that once I bit into the burrito it had no flavor whatsoever. Like NO FLAVOR. Was hoping for authenticity turns out chipotle can do it better. I don't recommend this place AT ALL. A complete waist of money and customer service. But you know what I look around the neighborhood and realize that gentrification is alive and well. Karma will definitely come back around to how you treat people. Especially your clientele. Solid Mexican food, though unspectacular. Their barbacoa de chivo was tasty, and well seasoned. I got it on a hurrache, which was nice. The shell held up upon bending, yet was easy to chew. The lengua was also good, and served in rather large pieces. The only disappointment came with the nopales asados. There wasn't anything wrong with them, but no seasoning to speak of was kind of disappointing. I've not tried any of their specials, but a torta, taco and soda for $5.95 is a heck of a deal. I chose this place off of the street when I was walking through Washington Heights. I always look for the 'A' ratings on a place, and this one had one so I decided to try it. I had no idea how popular this place was in the neighborhood until I read the beaming reviews. It certainly did not disappoint. It tasted almost exactly like the food I ate in Mexico. I ate Sopes and Pozole. The Sopes were delicious and fresh. A plate of three ($7.50) is quite filling and you could be satisfied with just eating that. I also attempted to eat the pozole ($7.50) but it was too much food. I managed to only eat about 1/2 of the bowl but everything was fresh and delicious and set to just the right temperature. My friend and I shared a plate of maduros ($2.00), which you might know as platanos. They were probably the best I have had in New York City. They tasted fresh, juicy, and were cooked to the perfect consistency. If you find yourself in Washington Heights, do not miss out on this little gem. Seating is limited. Fiesta is an authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican place with delicious, fresh food. I used to live two blocks away, and it was my favorite place to go for a meal to take home or quick, easy dinner with husband. Literally the BEST vegetarian tacos I've ever had - warm corn tortillas, fresh lettuce and onions and lots of cilantro, ripe avocado (extra $0.50, totally worth it) authentic Mexican cheese (just the right amount, not too much), lime and radish on the side, and all the ingredients so fresh and flavorful and tasty. My husband generally got the chicken or pork burrito and thought they were good too. The jamaica agua fresca is really good too! If you get your order for take-out, they make it up quickly and there are a few seats to sit while you wait (you can also order over the phone and pick up). To eat in, sit down and the waitress will take your order. No ambiance and sometimes the music is a bit loud, but a fine place for a bite to eat, with homemade chips and salsa while you wait. In my experience, the person serving tables and at the cash register always spoke good English - the guys serving out food behind the counter generally do not, but just order from the person at the cash register and you should be fine. $15 minimum for credit cards (which you may easily not hit because their prices are so reasonable!). read more

Holy cow, what a great find in this neighborhood that is, well, lacking in good dining options. Delicious carnita enchilada, great carne asada and carne enchilada tacos, excellent spicy guacamole with freshly fried chips. All the of the accompaniments were super fresh. The neighborhood's gentrifying rapidly and a few shops on the block have shuttered their windows. La Fiesta is moving to around 160th and Broadway in 2 weeks (see this review's date), according to the delivery man, but is still taking phone orders for delivery. Prices are much higher than on the Yelp menu. A guacamole is $5 and while the chips are definitely homemade, they glisten over the entire surface like no others I've seen, testifying to the oils they're soaked in and made from. Half a roasted chicken now costs $4. Well done and juicy, but Costco gives a whole chicken for a dollar more. I wish I'd others' appetites but for me the portions are not big enough to justify the price. Not a deal anymore but I wanted to try it once. read more

I just had the worst experience at this restaurant, this is a neighborhood restaurant that I have been going to since they open their doors. I went there today with my daughter and grandson, we order guacamole to start, when we received the guacamole there it was made with some much lime that we couldn't eat, when we asked them to fix it they brought it back tasting same. The waitress told us that they will not serve unless we paid for our meal first. Who does that? I think that is illegal to ask a patron to pay for their meal first. How about if we don't like our meal, we have to eat and pay for it? I will definitely be reporting them. They just lost a customer, I will never ever go to this restaurant again, To top off the waitress called their other restaurant which is two blocks away called Guadalupe which is located between 159th and 160th St right next door to DD. So we walk to this restaurant the young lady came and told us the same thing that we had to pay for our meal first. when we explained to her what happened, she did not even blink. Now, mind you this young lady knows me for years, we even share a birthday. I don't think we were being unfair. if I go to a restaurant downtown and I don't like something they either replace it or take off the bill. La Fiesta has been one of my go-to places in the neighborhood for years. Their tacos are helping to keep a little bit of pride in the Mexican food here in NYC. There isn't a better taco on the east coast. I pretty much stick to the tacos. I have had the burrito and it is good but not something I would go out of my way to get. The tacos are destination worthy. I also fault them a few points for having "seating" but not really providing much service. It's always freezing in there and I rarely want to pay the extra couple of bucks to dine in. The staff is super nice but they need to make it more comfortable to hang out in there. First time I didn't mind.Today I did because I order a cheeseburger and they send me a plain burger with a soda I didn't ask for.
