    Salsa & Chips

By the time we arrived in Washington Heights, we were famished. We found Las Palmas, and I quickly checked the Yelp reviews before we walked in. It's a very nice, clean restaurant, with a little bar, dark wood, and lots of Mexican art. There's a very varied menu. It's huge. Lots of choices. We both had the Mexican coffee (con leche), and it was DELICIOUS. It arrived very hot. It's espresso coffee. Yum! We ordered sandwiches. My mother just wanted lettuce and tomato, but inexplicably, hers arrived with ham and cheese. I ordered the Pollo de Sur, grilled chicken with mozzarella, peppers, onion, and fries. The fries were okay. Not great, not worth the calories. The chips and salsa were good, not great. The salsa was mild. I enjoyed my sandwich, but could only finish half. A very nice place for lunch. The service was friendly. One annoyance was the very, very, very loud blender used at the bar to make frozen drinks. Luckily, the restaurant wasn't crowded, so we only had to hear it about three times. I would imagine that at night, it's nonstop.

This a great lunch to have in Washington heights. The service was quick. Lively music and atmosphere. I had ordered the fish tacos which were very crispy and filling. All meals come with a side of chips and salsa. The restaurant was a little pricier than other nearby places. However, the portions are a good size. Would recommend!

I've never seen or tasted such terrible food. Old soggy Nachos, with fried white cheese over a huge bed of undercooked hard beans and burnt bone hard salty steak. Totally inedible. Tacos have zero ingredients except for the tortilla and meat. Whoever made this concoction has never heard or been to Mexico. Las Palmas do better! Never again. You have lost a customer.

I can't believe we have walked by here so many times and not come in. Holy wow. The food is amazinggg-huge proportions, incredible service and professionalism from the staff, and the ambiance is very welcoming to all. The drinks are delicious and the food is incredible. Authentic and just perfect. This is our new regular spot for sure!!

Odd experience to get great and awful food at the same time. We had a large order, and the service was fast and friendly. Caldo de Res - really good. Caldo de Mariscos - really good. Chicken fajitas - not edible, too salty and the chicken was very dry... almost as if the chicken was precooked and microwaved for us Kids hamburger - same as above, very dry and tasteless Kids chicken nuggets - actually good, my daughters split this after not eating the hamburger If I'm ever in the area I'd return to eat the soup for sure. I would recommend to all.

Nice local spot & employees are always super friendly. Second time getting the burrito and bought a torta with great flavor. The portions are great for their prices. Big backss for the winnnnn

What can I say, probably one of the best Cuban Restaurants around. I had the Churrasco,Yuca frita and Maduros. Much needed. Thanks again to Las Palmas for a great experience.

Barbacoa de Chivo with rice and beans on the side

After three weeks of coming to the hospital to visit, and leaving starving because of the lack of variety of food in this area finding this place was heaven sent. There's only so many meals you can eat fried food or Wendy's or bbqs I was longing for homemade, hearty cuisine. The first time I brought my mom here we ordered a quick takeout meal to see how good it was. We ordered tortas de milanesa and my mom got a soup on the side. Which turned out to be one of the best tortas I've ever had! After that my mom became a regular during her theee weeks! The staff was super pleasant and welcoming. Everyone is hospitable and accommodating. The second time we sat down and I ordered a barbacoa de chivo it comes with rice and beans on the side and homemade tortillas. So good. My husband ordered cecina and nopales which came with rice and beans as well. The third time it was Father's Day so we decided to take my dad out to eat. It wasn't busy maybe bc Father's Day no one takes dad out lol, but we ordered a couple of different plates which all came with the rice and beans on the side and homemade tortillas. Every time we ate here we've left so full! They are so generous with their food and delicious. They do take a bit long but you can't rush perfection. Lol the food is so good. The decor is pleasant as well, A+ guys!

A quick internet search led me to this tiny little takeaway window. There were a few people waiting around for their orders, but the service was quick, and super friendly. The birria was amazing, super tender, perfect seasoning and came with two sauces for dipping. Unbelievably flavourful, and an impressive serving size. Great value for the money. Truly authentic Mexican street food. I'll be back.

We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.

Decent size Mexican restaurant with some seating in the front and a handful of tables in the back dining room. We started with chips and guac. The guac is large so I understand the price. It was very good. No complaints. The chips could have used more salt though which is always a concern. You'd think Mexican spots would have a tortilla chip down by now. I ordered a steak quesadilla. The steak was tender and had pretty good flavor. I just wish there was more. Especially considering the price. Certainly not a bad quesadilla but the value wasn't quite there. Still, a fine option if you want Mexican food and you are in the area. I'd say the 3.5 rating is pretty spot on.
