I've been a member of LA Fitness (on and off) since the early 2000s, and I'm really disappointed with the new "No Gym Bags on the Floor" policy at the Long Beach locations. When I originally signed up, there was no rule against having a small gym bag with basic training gear (straps, bands, sleeves, roller, etc.). Now staff are telling us no bags on the floor at all--everything must stay in a locker or car. For anyone who trains seriously, this slows down workouts, makes it harder to use safety/recovery tools, and can even increase the risk of injury when our equipment isn't accessible. What bothers me most is how this was done. There's no clear, easy-to-find bag policy on the LA Fitness website when you sign up. Instead, this rule is being pushed later through local signs and staff, which feels like a unilateral change to what members originally agreed to--and potentially a breach of contract, since the conditions of use are being changed after the fact while dues stay the same. If the concern is theft or safety, there are better options (more security, cameras, size/placement limits) than banning all gym bags for everyone. As a long-time member, this feels like a downgrade in both service and transparency, and LA Fitness should either rethink this policy or be upfront and fair with members who no longer feel they're getting what they signed up for. read more

It's a regular LA Fitness. Staff is really nice and the space is large and well ventilated. I've been to other LA Fitnesses that are always hot and stuffy. The sauna is a good size, and while I've never been in the pool, it looks to be a good size as well. The locker rooms are generally clean enough. Some issues I've noticed are many of the gym goers are inconsiderate and lack spatial awareness. Weights are rarely re-racked, and if they are, they're in the wrong spot. I've come at different times of the day (from an hour after opening to late afternoon and all inbetween), and no matter the time, the weights are all over the place. The bathrooms aren't kept up consistently. Sometimes there's toilet paper, sometimes there's seat covers, sometimes there's paper towels. I've literally seen cleaning staff in the restroom but not replace toilet paper and the same stalls will be without for like 2-3 days. Some of the equipment has been going missing. There used to be 2 barbells in the turf area and one barbell per bench and squat rack. Now, there's one barbell in the turf area and a missing barbell in the bench area. There used to be tires for flipping and pulling, they've been removed. read more

Everytime I come to this gym it's amazing. Clean, friendly staff, and the environment is perfect for hitting PRs and actually focusing on and completing your fitness goals. Alyssa at the front desk was helpful every time I had a question and always hooks it up with the attachments. read more

Everything needs to be improved, updated, machines are constantly broken and it takes a very long time to repaired, on one occasion they had forgotten the machine was broken and it was out of service for over a month, it wasn't until I brought it up to the front desk that something was done. The water filters are filthy and not changed for months, constantly on the red light, don't even have cold drinking water, it's warm. Also they should have rules for people that just sit on the machines on their cellphones looking at their social media whatever they are looking at but definitely they are not working out and just holding up the machines ; it's upsetting for people that have limited time to work out due to work etcetera and not being to complete their routine. read more

Front desk staff is not friendly, they are often talking to each other and completing ignoring members checking in. They don't even say "hello" or "good morning", bad customer service. The bathrooms never have any paper towels. The women's locker room has 3 areas with sinks and only 2 have a paper towel holder and they're almost always empty. The soap in the restrooms is watered down. There are hardly ever any wipes for equipment. Step up your game LA Fitness! read more

The gym is super busy so I come around 8:30-9 when the classes are done to do my workouts in the room. I really dislike the cleaning lady sweeping all over our feet when we're trying to work out. If the gym closes at 11 why are u here at 9pm sweeping us up damn near? It's to the point it makes me feel uncomfortable. I shouldn't have to avoid coming at a certain time because of this. We would appreciate it if this was done at 10:30/10:45. I get she's trying to get out early but please be considerate. Although the app allow to give a 7 day consecutive pass, the staff in this club doesn't allow you using this feature. I have been an LA fitness member for almost a year. The clubs are really clean and nice. But this club has a bad customer service. I added a vip guest on the app and the staff in this branch didn't allow him to enter which embarrassed me. Charged me $145 within two weeks for signing up for a free one day trial. They got my card details correct, but not my phone number or name so they cannot find my account to cancel. Young Lady behind desk said she cannot do anything about it without a manager, and of course there were no managers present. Workers need more training. Hopefully cancelling and never coming back. I signed up at this gym a few months ago because it's close to my house. The equipment isn't bad, it can get crowded but usually it's not too bad. Some of the staff are nice and smile as they check you in. But, when I took the tour, they talked about the training staff and an area you can be personally trained in. When the Manager took us to that area, he said everyone was allowed in that area but when the training staff was in there with a client, they had priority. I have been using that equipment without an issue for months, but all of a sudden a trainer (Pablo) keeps kicking my friend out of there. He allows other people in there, the last time he kicked her out, he told some other guy he could finish his workout in there. read more

Went In today on a guest pass. Raymundo was helpful. Nice clean gym and good equipment. The only concern I had was the free weights. The dumbbells were ALL over the place. I've been a member at a few gyms (24, crunch and planet fitness) and I've never seen such a mess. All the weights were scattered and half weren't even paired. Re racking weights is just proper gym etiquette. In the end it falls on the user but the LA fitness staff should do a lot better job at monitoring. At first glance this LA fitness looks nice BUT once you walk in and you look fit you get harassed by the personal training manager ... if you can even call him a "manager." I decided to check out this newly renovated location last weekend and brought along 2 of my friends because I pay extra for guest privileges. Within FIVE minutes of being there I was getting harassed for "training" them because the workout was "structured" ... uhm isn't that what a workout is? Strategically putting different exercises together to target a specific muscle?! I guess I can't talk to my friends at the gym anymore because it makes my workout look "too structured" biggest joke I've ever heard. I'll still be back with my friends because it's a convenient location for all of us, we'll just have to avoid the big bad wolf threatened by other fit people. .... also id say his approach also offended my friends implying they didn't look "fit" enough to know what they were doing on their own .... real manager material right there. Do NOT USE THE GYM! If I had not spoke to general manager at LA FITNESS elsewhere I would be canceling membership after 7 years of loyalty. Araceli "manger in charge" was so unprofessional. I had never invited a friend to join and after successfully getting a 7 day pass from mobile app Araceli refused to honor. Her reason was that the number for my guest was blocked and she could not provide any reason as to why, she refused to give me her name and first. Told her staff not to assist me when I requested to cancel my membership. I decided to go to another location where manger was extremely helpful, professional and friendly. He explained the block was due to the guest being a minor and no calls to the guest phone number were allowed . Had absolutely nothing to do with Araceli not being able to activate 7 day pass. The service I received from her through out the interaction was unacceptable, the fact that she refused to help give me a resolution or valid reason as to why she would not allow my guest shows how incompetent she and her staff is. read more

I started the gym about a month ago and even got a personal trainer. They will be closing soon for at least three months for a needed renovation. Which is great!!! My review is for the trainers. Pablo is one of the coolest persons we (hubs and I) have had the pleasure of meeting here. He takes the time to hear you out and see what your body is capable of doing. Oscar is another trainer with LAF. He's a bit more boot camp mentality but he works your body in ways you didn't know it could. We are both starting to see and feel the changes and couldn't be more happy with who we are paired with!!! I might get a bit mean with Oscar, but I'm glad he doesn't take it personal, and doesn't give up on me/us. He really does motivate!!! I usually go to this gym since it is closed to work and on the way home. The usual equipments are there, but yes like the person mention below, only one ab machine and have to wait around after one uses it. There are plenty of treadmills to use and weights are there to use. Not enough space to do stretches when the mats are all found in the training room where classes take place. The lockers and showers are decent and accessible. Overall, gym is good for the regular workout. There is plenty of parking to get to this gym compared to the other locations. read more

The short Filipino manager today was an A hole.. wouldn't let my 14 year old niece get a guest pass without her ID... I understand they have rules but damn she's 14. It's not like an adult who carries their ID w them everywhere. And then when the cool, very kind front desk guy tried to be nice about it, saying if we had a picture of it on our phone we could maybe use it the A hole manager did some kind of hand signal trying to tell him to be quiet. I hope corporate reads this and considers training their employees or rather their managers to be customer service friendly. Ive visited a few LA Fitness in OC and aside from the very disgusting LA Fitness at the Block this one isn't disgusting it's just outdated, old, and the weight area is really old. No matching weights, rusty, and I'm angry that I've had La Fitness since I was 13 and feel as if you only get a nice club If your in a nice area. ALL LA Fitness that took over a Bally's should have been fully updated. This location has so much useless space that can be utilized for the members. They have no problem raising the prices for new members but only open new locations instead of remodeling the existing locations first. I live in a nice area, and that gym is nice. However I work in LB and this gym is two min from my job. I should be able to enjoy it as much as I do all the others. Enough people need to write corporate and have something done. This is ridiculous. I don't like that someone is cleaning while we work out. It should be after it closes and before it opens. Maintaining it during is ok, but full on cleaning leaves for areas not to be used during gym hours. read more

I've been attending this gym for many years. The staff is friendly. But they play the music way too loud in the main workout area, where the workout machines are. I like to listen to my own music so I bring headphones with Bose noise-cancellation circuit, and yet the music at this gym is louder than my own in-ear music. I've complained many times but they don't turn it down. Music at gym should be in background only, not so overpowering that it cancels out your own music. Sometimes you want to just have silence for a peaceful workout but you can't do it here. I've asked the manager, Omar, to please turn it down but he says the volume is 'where it's supposed to be and I'm not turning it down.' Really? If I was manager of a place and a customer asked me to turn it down I'd do it, but I guess everyone is different. I wish more people here would complain the music is too loud then maybe they'd turn it down but I guess they figure nobody else complains so why bother. read more
