I've been going to this LA Fitness in Tempe, but I'm really disappointed with how the pool area is being maintained. During the recent haboob, the ceiling above the pool started leaking. A few days later the leak dried, but I noticed black spots on the ceiling that looked like mold and reported it. The operations manager, Kyle, told me a work order was submitted, but that was all the information I got. The very next day, I arrived to use the pool and was told in person that it was closed. A simple notice ahead of time would have saved me the trip. On top of that, the pool windows are dirty and there appears to be mold on the pool deck. The area really needs to be power washed and disinfected for members' health and safety. I hope management takes pool cleanliness and communication more seriously going forward. Members deserve a safe, clean facility--especially in the pool area. read more

I have been to atleast 7 different LA Fitness/ESPORTA locations across Phoenix and the East valley... as well as another 5-7 in other states around the country. It is VERY rare when I get greeted walking in/scanning my app. I intentionally take out my headphones as I'm walking in to say something to them and sometimes I'm not evening acknowledged... so I wanted to thank the young lady sitting at the front when I walked in about 1:35pm Sunday 12/31. I believe the trainer/manager told me her name was Lakia (I'm sorry if I spelled it wrong). I don't know what other responsibilities they have to do at the free, but I think greeting people as they walk and leave is very minimal to ask. Unless you get multiple gym access, if you expect to get enough good dance classes from this location only, you will be deeply disappointed. My daughter called me to inform me that a man in his 30s was following her around and would not stop trying to talk to her as she continued on to different equipment. She said this has happened before with the same man. I advised her not to say or do anything that would provoke this man into an angry or aggressive state, amongst other precautionary safeguards. Unbeknownst to my daughter, I called the front desk and a gentleman, "Brandon", was incredibly empathetic and helpful. He exuded incredible professionalism, actively listened, and assured me that he would check on my daughter and monitor the man harassing her in a discreet manner as I requested so that my daughter is not targeted by this man. Beside very dirty restrooms and shower areas, general upkeep is minimal. Past six months have started with a very disturbing trend. There is a small snack and smoothie restaurant inside of this location, and now they are selling meals. I am all for convenience, but the god awful smell of the prep and cooking is not OK for a gym environment. Often baking Brussel Sprouts leaves a rancid odor in at least half of the gym. This is not an all subtle. This is in your face and literally makes you want to get past that restaurant lobby area to see if you can escape it. There are a few of us that have specifically asked about this at the front desk, but I'm sure as we turned around they rolled her eyes and disregarded. If this was not meant to have a literal cooking, set up with a commercial vent, hood, then it shouldn't be permitted. Hopefully something is done about it soon, because the health department contact is my next stop. This is disgusting! read more

I just had a very unfortunate situation at the Tempe LA Fitness that resulted in me canceling my LA Fitness membership. I have been a member since 9/14/2011 of LA Fitness since. A member parked next to my Bronco in a way that did not allow my driver side door to open. For 10 minutes, 2 members of the LA Fitness staff asked members whose Chevy was parked next to me so they could move it. A member finally said it was his after being asked by the staff a second time. The member asked if I could climb over the passenger side to get in my car which is absolutely ridiculous. The LA Fitness janitor who previously did not know the situation told me to "relax" and "show some respect" while I was actively being disrespected by the Chevy driving member. I have complained about the Tempe LA Fitness location previously for being unprofessional, dirty, & inaccessible. read more

If you wanna pay WAY TOO MUCH for a gym then this is the place for you! Very few personal trainers or staff, no refunds ON ANYTHING! They do have a cafe/smoothie bar there which provides the awesome broccoli fart smell that truly sets them apart and cements this place as only slightly better than a high school public gym. Unfortunately, I signed up for personal training (stupid I know) because the membership coordinator assured me that my limited availability could be accommodated and I'd have no problem training at least 3x a week...interestingly I train maybe once a week except for last month when the high schooler that they hired as a trainer didn't show up for work so after he was fired "there was not a trainer in my tier available" for an entire month...so my outrageous fee was essentially a donation... As they don't give refunds I just had to deal with it Needless to say, I would give this place less than a star if I could, and my membership expiration date can't come soon enough... I enjoy this LA Fitness location and they offer exactly what I was looking for. The facility is big, there's enough equipment to use even when it's crowded, and they even offer food/shake services. You'll see other reviews complaining about the pool, but it's being replastered currently. This shows me they take care of their facilities and equipment. Great gym! I just wish they'd add more classes. I go to several gyms in the valley, and take mostly classes because they are fun and motivating. I've taken steps & Abs here as well as Zumba. I called ahead of time to see if the jacuzzi water had been switched over today because my initial location changes the water over on Friday so that takes a long time to heat up, and it stays cool so I avoid the hot tub on Fridays at my location. I called the Tempe location and asked the lady that answered if the water had been switched over and she immediately said that the jacuzzi is hot and the pool is warm so I traveled just over 5 mi to get to the jacuzzi and it was cold. I asked the front desk gentleman the same thing I asked her and he said he would come check it and they both came and checked it and it turns out the breaker was off so the jacuzzi was actually cold. She did not even look my way. It takes quite a while for a hot tub to heat up so it was a waste of time. While I waited for them, I looked over the pool and the pool is murky green with footprints on the bottom meaning there is slime on the bottom. I thought because it was in Tempe, it might be a bit cleaner. It's actually bittersweet that the water was cold as it gave me a chance to see how gross the pool was. When I signed up for training sessions I was told sessions don't expire, after a year of training sessions I cancelled my training sessions and had three sessions left. I signed up for LA Fitness (for like the 3rd time lol) about a year ago and I've been coming to this location for about 2-3 months. Not going to lie, I only come to the gym for the classes. This location has the best instructors in my opinion. Richard on Tuesdays is amazing, and Leo!!!! Leo's class on Wednesday and Thursday nights is honestly the reason I choose to drive a little further to this location. As far as the rest of the gym, it's usually pretty crowded on weeknights but there seems to be enough equipment to go around. The staff at the front desk has always been super friendly. The locker room is pretty decent as well. Lots of lockers, stalls and showers. Pretty basic stuff but it's spacious which is a good thing. I can't really speak on much else, I just know that I prefer this location vs. some of the others I've visited. read more

I started coming here with a friend as a place to beat the heat and play some basketball with a coworker after work. Chris got me all set with a membership, when i told him about the trouble i was having with my knee he introduced me to Dean Who made me a personalized plan to accommodate my injury. I will be doing PT with him 3 times a week to work on my range of motion and to help me the ditch my dad bod. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Do yourself a favor, and DO NOT join LA Fitness. They are a nightmare to deal with when it comes time to cancel your membership. I have been a loyal client for 10 years. I cancelled in person 6 months ago, or so I thought, but come to find out they have continued billing me. I only found this out because my debit card was stolen, and so of course I cancelled it. Billing phoned me and told me I would be facing collections if I don't pay an additional $30 to close my account. I have not stepped foot into an LA Fitness in half a year. Not to mention, the representatives that I spoke with today were absolute dicks. I REGRET ever joining this gym. Why would people want to do business with a company that makes life hell for them at the end? Planet Fitness is half the price, with newer equipment, and life is easy with them. :) read more
