BUYER BEWARE!!! DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THEIR PILATES PROGRAM!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! I switched gyms to be closer to my house, signed up for a membership on 7/25/25. They just opened a new Pilates reformer studio within the gym and I was highly encouraged to start a separate membership for that new rollout program for $99/mo. The push to do it felt gimmicky and almost like I was at a car dealership... but, I used to do Pilates and I missed it so I reluctantly signed up. Took my first class before work and the instructor was 12 minutes late. She was acting very strange and sniffing constantly, and then randomly starts crying, pacing aggressively and is telling us she is having issues with her sister (she did this multiple times). Turns up techno music full blast and is having us do boot camp style moves. She ends the class 10 minutes early (classes are supposed to be one hour). Other members walked out frustrated, another telling me "it was like she was on something!" which, after working in ER for years, I completely agreed with. The next class, INSTRUCTOR NEVER SHOWS UP. After rushing to get there and bringing all of my stuff to get ready for work, it was a complete waste of my workout time. I had a class with the same instructor two days later and I was apprehensive to waste my time again so I cancel it in the app and they charged me $10!!! How about $10 for me after my time was wasted two days prior?!! Took two classes which were great (Kesh and Andrea). They actually knew what they were doing and I recognized one of them from a Pilates club in the area. Next class was with Brenda and it was HORRIBLE. She had us add too much weight and push through movements that were uncomfortable, felt unsafe. She kept coming up and putting her hands on us to push through movements, correct positions, WAY too many reps. I "pushed through" as instructed and hours later I COULD NOT MOVE. I called out from work the next day and saw my MD who put me on bed rest. A week later, no better and had an MRI! I spent my entire birthday in bed as a result of this class. A week later, I called the club to inform of my experience. I spent 5 days trying to get ahold of someone; leaving messages with no return call. Went in physically on 8/16/25 and was able to cancel the Pilates membership I was told to contact their operations manager, Capri, regarding my experience. Again, calling and being hung up on, no return call. After several attempts and much frustration, able to connect with Capri. She seemed confused as to why I was even contacting her. I told her my experience and she was defensive, dismissive and negated the things I told her. Example: "the instructor you took is not like that, she doesn't use substances." Ummm, were you there?! How do you know that? How is what I just told you not a concern?! I continued to tell her about my experience with my back and she was again dismissive. I told her it was not what was promised, that their Pilates instructors do not match even remotely in technique or class style, which she also went on to defend. I asked her for a refund or at least partial based on my experience, to which she said "I can't do that because you used the service." The service?!! It was horrible and I was injured because of YOUR NEGLIGENT INSTRUCTOR!! I took a total of 4 classes, 2 of which were awful, 1 that injured me! I asked her if I could speak with someone from cooperate or similar and she stated "I am the only person you can talk to, there is no one else." I asked her if my only option was to go through my bank for a refund and her snarky reply was "do whatever you need to do." Just wow. After finding a complaint blog for this gym online, I saw they have been dismissing their members FOR A LONG TIME. I also found out that the salespeople make commission on their memberships so no wonder Steven or Capri did not want to help me or do the right thing. Money is their main motivator. Everyone was so nice to me UNTIL THEY GOT MY MONEY. I have now called their corporate office who was closed every time I've called (surprise, surprise) and I am now dealing with getting this handled with Better Business Bureau (who has been very responsive). I am hoping to get this resolved but in the meantime, felt the need to leave this warning review so no one repeats the same mistake. They are using this class to drive up sales while using members as pawn since the program is not well established. Your money is better utilized at much better reformer studios in Ventura. Remember: you get what you pay for. As for the gym itself, it is mostly clean but always packed. The only time I have been able to come and get my workout in freely without waiting for machines is before 8:30am. So unless you're an early bird, good luck. I wish we had a House of Gains out here because they are the gym cheat code. This place is NOT it. We love our new gym! It's clean and has lots to choose from! Everyone is very friendly and my wife enjoys the classes they offer!

I'm very excited to start working out again at LA Fitness, and getting back on track with regular calisthenics, cardio, and weights. LA fitness is a fantastic facility with lots of free weights, machines and cardio equipment. There's a clean and expansive workout space, large cardio area on the second floor, nicely appointed locker room facilities, and a large swimming pool. I've recently been working out with my new lady friend, Eileen. I met Eileen when her trainer noticed me following them around and mimicking their workout routine. He asked me to stop, but I got to chatting with Eileen and we hit it off immediately. Now, rather than my watching reruns of Good Times and the Dick Van Dyke Show, Eileen and I spend the good part of most weekday afternoons exercising at LA Fitness. I follow her and her trainer around in various disguises for an hour or so, and then Eileen and I spend the rest of the time in the cardio section or swimming. It's been great! I've lost eleven pounds. Also, being out of the house for a couple of hours a day keeps me away from my beloved pie cabinet. My roommates and I installed a rotating vintage pie display case in our kitchen, which features a broad selection of seasonal pies and cakes that my roommates and I bake. For three divorced men with limited entertainment budgets, baking is really all we have to satisfy our sweet tooth and sublimate the bitterness, because anger and sadness can often overwhelm our hope for the future as we make do in our dank three bedroom apartment back lit by the unhealthy glow of a buzzing and unnaturally blue neon "Fresh Pie" sign hovering just above no less than a half dozen carefully displayed cakes and pies. My point is that, despite the fact that he's not aware of it, Eileen's trainer really has his work cut out for him. Eileen and I are looking forward to visiting gay Paris next week! My Uncle Paris has always been my favorite. He and his husband live in Burbank and I believe there's even an LA Fitness location just around the corner from his house on Coldwater Canyon. Thanks to their truly impressive combination of pushy sales tactics and condescending financial advice, I realized this location of LA Fitness wasn't the right fit for me. It's not every day you meet gym employees who double as personal finance consultants, eagerly telling potential members how they should better allocate their money to afford their membership. Even more impressive was their ability to make me feel like I was wasting their time simply by doing what any reasonable person would--comparing my options. I just finished my first week at this gym and here's my review coming from someone who has tried most gyms in Ventura: Pros: -Nice variety of equipment -Doesn't seem to get insanely crowded during mornings -Class offerings Cons: -Air conditioning is either not on or barely works. Gets so hot, especially during cardio since most this equipment is upstairs and your head is nearly at the roof, making it much hotter. AC should be CRin gyms :( -The bathroom is pretty gross. Mostly from the pool, the stalls are soaking wet as people decide to change in them. Smells like a waterpark, which is annoying for someone who doesn't use the pool and simply needs to use the restroom during a workout. Wish there were more stalls. -The price is a bit much considering the gym has pretty outdated machines, the price will likely be the dealbreaker on staying at this gym, as it's not super impressive comparing it to the other gyms in Ventura which are cheaper read more

I wouldn't go here if it was free. there is far too many people in there at one time and half the machines barely function or do not work at all. The customer service is terrible and they make it extremely difficult to cancel. It does not surprise that they have had multiple class action lawsuits for this behavior and they continue to operate the same way. read more

I just called in for some customer assistance regarding my membership. I spoke with Steven on the phone. He was extremely rude and refused to let me finish talking about context. I was obviously frustrated over the phone but his attitude did not help. I was asking about my membership and he did just about anything to avoid my questions. He consistently cut me off referring to me as "bro" instead of waiting for me to finish so that i could take the time to hear what he had to say. Ultimately when asking one more question, He hung up the phone on me before I had a chance to finish. If this is how a staff member acts over the phone, I can't imagine how they handle business in person. read more

Large parking lot and pretty large building. The second floor is where a majority of the cardio machines are and first floor is where the free weights section is. You can tell it's an older gym but it does the job. The area around the benches and cable machines is pretty tight so probably not super fun to deal with during peak hours. There are a couple squat racks and Smith machines but unfortunately no platform for deadlifting. A majority of the dumbbells are not where they're supposed to be so sometimes half the workout is looking for the weights you need! read more

Pluses and minuses with all of them. Now that I have been to a few, I should create the perfect LA Fitness my damn self. In summary: The gym staff were extremely rude to us--rushing and yelling at us to leave even before they closed. There's a good variety of equipment, but they're dated and sticky. Long version: This was our first time visiting this particular location, and we will not be returning. The good aspects of our visit do not outweigh the way that we were treated. We've been to other LA fitness locations, and we've always been treated kindly by the staff. We went to this gym around 10pm and it was decently clean and not super busy. We decided to borrow some racket ball equipment, but the racket strings were snapped and the grips were worn down and falling apart. The weights looked dated and many of the surfaces we touched had a residual sticky feeling. The worst part of our visit was the way the staff treated us. I want to preface that it's not the closing time that we're upset about, but rather the treatment we received near closing time. I understand that people want to get off work on time, but the staff started rushing us out at 10:53pm. My friend and I went upstairs to look at the cardio equipment and one of the cleaning staff was yelling at us that they were closed from downstairs. Yes, yelling. And it wasn't 11 yet. We didn't realize that she was yelling at us until we looked down and saw that she was gesturing at us to come down with a very annoyed expression. What bothered me more was that she was standing next to a gym member who was actually still on and using the equipment! If it wasn't bad enough that the cleaning employee was rude to us, the front desk employee proceeded to rush us to leave as we were already going into the locker room to get our things. As we left the locker room, the other gym member was still on the same equipment and still working out. It's really rude that they would rush us while other people still got to work out. In contrast, when we've been to other LA fitness locations near closing time, the staff would come up to remind us that there's X minutes left until closing. We've never been yelled at by the staff at other locations, so again, we will not be returning. read more

The good is the gym and floors are kept clean and bathrooms are cleaner than before. Most of the machines work well enough though some machines need service and it seems like it takes the company months to do anything about them. The dry hot sauna works well most of the time, but it does not receive routine cleanings, so if you don't mind sitting on other peoples sweat on the wood benches, you are in good shape. They increased the temperature in it, so the smell from other people's sweat, soaked into the wood is not as bad as it used to be, when the temps ran about 150 degrees or so. It is usually about 180 deg F. and the heat seems to kill most of the smell due to lack of cleaning or sanitizing. I stil can not get past regarding the POOR hours that they keep, closing the gym at 10 pm on Fridays and 8PM on weekends. The staff regularly start trying to get everyone in the gym to leave 1/2 hour before they close with announcements every 10 min. then 5 min, then 2 min before they close. It feels like pre-school or kindergarden as the staff try to rush everyone out in the last 10 minutes. Sadly, this is because LA Fitness Management seems to not care that much about the members, rather paying a handful of staff, about 3 usually at night to work a few extra hours, If anyone is in the gym 1-2 minute past closing hour, staff get angry which seems to be displayed in an attitude that I witness regularly over months and years now. so if you want to do any late night workouts, (after 8 PM!) you/i would have to go somewhere else. I only go there because it's close to home and convenient. read more

LA Fitness Ventura is one of the most poorly maintained gyms that I have ever visited! Impressively poor condition. But this is the largest gym in Ventura, so LA Fitness will fit the bill if you need group classes and a pool on top of your typical cardio and weights. Giving one extra star because the parking lot is big, so you can always get in. Upstairs is all cardio, downstairs is strength training, classes, pool, and locker rooms. Nearly every elliptical is severely rusted and in desperate need of repair or replacement. If you don't have noise cancelling headphones with the volume turned all the way up, you will hear metal-on-metal grating, strange thumping noises, and other noises that should not be heard from cardio equipment. The stationary bikes and the treadmills are in similar condition. There are one or two spots to stretch, but good luck getting in. Flexibility is an important part of fitness, but it's just not possible in this gym. Overall, this gym is very dilapidated and much of the equipment is in disrepair. Hopefully a Lifetime Fitness or an Equinox opens in the area, because this gym is awful. read more

Just a quick update. In my last review, I stated that the rug should be replaced. To my surprise, a few months later, they renovated the gym and replaced the rug! Other things that were replaced, changed and/or added were: new weight racks, matrix stepmills (added), wood accent wall decor, and a new functional training area. This morning I went to LA Fitness at 7:30am. Loud heavy metal music welcomed me. The front desk assistant offered no greeting or smile. I asked her if the music could be tuned down. I mentioned that several people had asked for it already last week. She said she can not change the music. I replied that I just asked it to be not so loud. She went to other customers and preferred to serve them. I wondered why she would let me stand there and not finish up the conversation. This was very rude and definitely not customer-centered. Most of the people have headphones - however, you can not hear your music because the background music is always so loud at that facility. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS TO THIS GYM! the daycare "staff" have no idea what there doing. they allowed my 1 year old son to be knocked over climbed on top off and scratched all in the face by a 2 almost 3 year old .how did it escalate that far. Only downside is sometimes the machines take a long time to be fixed properly. The staff take your request and ask for it to be maintained. But it appears that corporate doesn't send the help. Have been asking for the attached 5 and 10 lb added weights on a machine to be replaced for 6 months. Nada. And the small 5 lb weights that you can use to go up in increments are always stolen and not replaced. read more

I recently joined the gym in Ventura, CA and so far have been very happy. I had a personal assessment and training appointment with Liban. She thoroughly questioned me regarding my past and current exercise regiments, suggested a schedule of weight training that was lacking in my program, and then walked me through some of those exercises. During the training, she was careful to ask about any weak or problem areas so she could tailor the workout to build strength were needed without further incumbering those areas. The gym is clean, the staff are friendly and helpful. There is a large variety of workout equipment as well as racquetball courts, two large group class studios, a pool, hot tub and sauna. The Zumba classes have been a lot of fun. Close to home. Lots of parking available. It's also an Amazon delivery location, so you can have your packages delivered there and not worry about packages being lifted from your porch. What more could you ask for? read more

I'm a longtime LA Fitness member and have used their clubs in 10 metro areas. The plus of the chain is the fact that each location contains pretty much what you need for a full body workout. That's true here also, but the cardio equipment at this Ventura location is in bad shape. All the ellipticals-- every single one-- are rusted and squeaky. I am a member of this gym. I meet my amazing friend here 2-5 times a week and she trains me. For this reason, the gym is great for me. I have been working out here since August. Weights: They are arranged brilliantly. By muscle group. We always find 2 machines and we do our reps (repetitions) and rotate. Weight training is my favorite part of my workout. Racket ball Courts: I recently went to the ARC thrift store and bought 2 rackets for $6 each. I will go to Sports Authority to buy balls. I am strongly considering buying the goggles too. I can't wait to try it. I went inside the court and made loud noises for fun. My friends & my hubby are enthusiastic about our future ventures into the racquetball courts. Hours: Not great. Not early enough. I went to workout at 6:00 AM on a Saturday. I was surprised that LA . Fitness Ventura does not open until 7:00 on the Weekends. The Pool: Recently reopened after resurfacing. (The health inspector finally approved the pool for reopening. It wasn't at the projected date given by LA Fitness...so I froze my account while I waited for the pool.) I love lap swimming. If you go at the right time, the pool is practically yours. I completely love the water aerobic classes. The Saturday morning class has many senior citizens which is fine (the music is dated to match the clientele). The Tuesday night class was my FAVORITE! The instructor was so fun and amazing. I loved her energy. I loved the "Toilet Bowl". The Thursday night instructor is great. She explained what to do & why you were doing it. Both Tuesday & Thursday night instructors reminds me of the instructors at the Ventura Aquatic Center (off of Kimball). So FABULOUS! Freezing your Membership: No one explained that there was a cost attached. Hello??? Customer Service?? I learned, via my bank statement, that there is a $10 fee per month. Seriously???? Mavericks doesn't do this!! I left Mavericks so I could workout with my amazing friends here at LA Fitness. (Mavericks.... I miss you in so many ways especially customer service.) Cardio: Yea for Rowing machines! The elliptical, stair steppers, and treadmills are adequate. Mavericks Gym has top of the line machines! When I do cardio....music doesn't keep me motivated. I love to time my workout to a show. Every cardio machine at Mavericks has their own TV! I have experienced so much cardio success, at Mavericks, because I can let my upper & lower body do elliptical while I listen and watch Law & Order. The elliptical machines at LA Fitness only work out your legs. LA Fitness machines do NOT have TV, computer, or Ipod capabilities as does Mavericks. Mavericks has huge flat screen TVs. LA Fitness, in Ventura, have mounted clunky TVs. They are not large. They have captions. I talked to ART, the assistant manager, who "sold" me this gym membership right outside of Sports Authority's Grand Opening, about how I could listen to the TV while working out. I asked him what app I should download that would give me access to the radio stations associated with the TVs. ART told me to listen to music instead..everyone else does. I re-EXPLAINED that I am motivated by TV. He said that other LA Fitness facilities have Up to date machines. I asked if Ventura LA Fitness, the gym I work out at, was up for an upgrade on machines. ART blew me off. (Blah blah blah ....just listen to music). I assume the answer is NO. Whatever! Customer Service: I have had many dealings with Art. ;-( I did a 3 day trial a few years ago. ART was so damn obnoxious that I walked out vowing to never ever again do business with LA Fitness. When I tried to make a point to him about not trying to sign me up on DAY 1 of my 3 DAY trial, he went on and on about how he has been doing this since he was age 17. He knows that people who come here are looking for Fitness even on Day 1. (Yeah..that may be true.. however, YOUR FACILITY NEEDS TO BE THE BEST so that you can STOP PRESSURING POTENTIAL CLIENTS WHO JUST WANT TO BE HEALTHY on day 1! ) ART, representing LA Fitness, was at the Grand Opening of Sports Authority in a booth for 2 hours. I told Art that I was waiting to win a prize. I was waiting SO LONG that I ended up signing up. I remained waiting knowing that I wanted to win the 30 day membership for my husband and the prize bag for a friend. ART went on a break. (Yea!!) There were 2 - 3 other sales guys there for this promotion. One of them approached me and kindly said, during Art's break, "I think it is ridiculous that Art didn't give you a gift bag (contained a towel, a Sports Authority water bottle and 2 - 7 day passes), 'after all.. You Did buy a membership." I said Thank You. This kind salesperson showed me how many bags they had. (there were many). I put it in my car and returned... waiting for my number to be called so that I could win a 30 day membership for my husband. I finally won. I came here only once and it was in the evening before closing . It's very spacious, two floors, with varied equipment although you might find they only have one or two of each type. I went when it was slow and I was pleased with my workout. The lockers need to be renovated though and the crossfit area is very small. read more
