I'm usually not in the area, as parking can be difficult. We carpooled, knowing it could be tough to find a spot. We got lucky with a spot a couple blocks away, but I would recommend carpooling or taking public transit. We had a reservation, since we were a big group. It wasn't too crowded when we got there on a Friday evening, but it definitely got more crowded later on. We were seated in the back, which was great for us to eat and chill. The complimentary bread, butter and chimichurri was fantastic. They were so good, that we got a couple more baskets of bread. The service was friendly and attentive. The Grilled Provolone with Prosciutto was perfectly cheesy and salty, which went great on the complimentary bread. Definitely eat this hot. The Calf Tongue had great texture, sliced at a nice thickness. Flavor-wise it was garlic heavy, so make sure you like garlic! The Shrimp and Avocado Salad (Small) was fresh with a great balance of ingredients. The small was more than enough to go around, so if you're a smaller group, I'd stick to the small. The Cazuela De Mondongo was flavorful with tender meat. I only had a bite, but the general consensus was the same. It comes with rice, so make sure to soak up all that stew! We got the Argentinian Grill, which served 3-4 people (we got x2, which meant 4 total sides): -Skirt Steak: was the best cut overall. It was well cooked at medium rare -Sweet Bread: I hadn't had this before and I enjoyed the texture and flavor. It is very tender. -Short Ribs: was too chewy, as I couldn't bite through it. Maybe it got a bit overcooked, since it was sitting at the bottom of the pile of meats. -Flank Steak: was a bit overdone. I added some chimichurri and onions for more flavor. -Blood Sausage: nice crumbly texture. The flavor is not too strong. -Sausage: decent snap, on the salty side, but still tasty -French Fires Provencal: perfectly crispy. Had a good amount of parsley, but could use more garlic (though there was so much garlic elsewhere, we didn't really need more) -Sauteed Onions: went well with the meats, as it added extra flavor -Sauteed Spinach: typical sauteed spinach -Sauteed Broccoli: typical sauteed broccoli Although the grill combo is good to try out the meats, it's better to pick and choose the meats you actually enjoyed. It definitely feeds 4 people (if you get a couple appetizers, feeds 3 otherwise). We were all full and had a little leftovers. I also tried a sip of the Red Sangria, and it was good. With so many changes it is rare for me to walk into a place that has been around longer than me (est. 1970). It was my first time coming here despite La Fusta being around forever. Our group of 8 walked in a cold winter night, to a warm wood adorned interior with dim lighting making for a cozy intimate feel putting me right at ease setting me up for a great night. We started with a pitcher of Sangria - they make an excellent version as they brought out fresh crusty bread, chimichurri and butter. Grilled Provolone with prosciutto made an awesome cheese pull and was fantastic on their bread. The Calf Tongue had a good texture and marinated with olive oil, vinegar and garlic heavy. The shrimp and avocado salad was packed with fresh delicious ingredients. For the main event it is grilled meats all the way. The Argentinian Grill gives a nice sampling - we ordered 2 so were able to get 4 sides - French Fries Provenzal, Sauteed Spinach, Broccoli and Onions. The skirt steak is the standout and now that I tried a sampling I would probably focus on this the next time I am here. I enjoyed the sweet breads and chorizo, but found the Short Ribs a little tough and Blood Sausage is not really my thing. I had gotten the lunch special which was the beef and chicken empanadas as an appetizer, pork chop with mashed potatoes as an entree and flan for dessert. Second time coming here but first time coming here with a group and was amazed at the variety of food items here. I may be a little biased since whenever I do go to an Argentine restaurant its usually in a party of two and Ill usually just order an Argentine grill, but with a larger group I was able to explore more varieties this time around. It has a very old school feel once you step inside, the walls are covered with pictures of the owner with celebrities, food blogger reviews and other historical pieces of the restaurant. The restaurant is very small but it feels very comforting and cozy. Our server was polite and not overly nice which is great when you are trying to enjoy a romantic meal with your partner. He came around to take our order and bring bread. We ordered a small of sangria, fried calamari, skirt steak and shrimp franceses with a side of sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes. The sangria was sweet but not overly sweet and I loved that the jar was not filled to the rim with ice. The fried calamari was pretty good; not the best I have ever had but still good. The shrimp franceses was very tasty, had a good amount of citrus and the shrimp was huge. The spinach was a bit overpowering, definitely good for someone who is a spinach lover. I tried a piece of the skirt steak and it was cooked a perfect medium rare with the most tender texture. The mashed potatoes were good but again not the best I have had. La Fusta will strike you as a somewhat old school Argentine steakhouse that has some interesting hits and misses. I started with a glass of red sangria that was a sure fire hit, full of fruit with a quality red wine. I ordered their shrimp in their house special sauce with bacon bits and I will get into that in a moment. The waiter, whom I applaud for great service, brings their sourdough bread with their chimichurri sauce and, bang, that was great with the red sangria! Their chimichurri is the real deal and that sourdough soaks up all that garlic, herb, and olive oil for your palate's pleasure, just straight up goodness! Then comes the shrimp and special sauce entree I ordered with the rice. It comprised about seven jumbo shrimp, not quite prawns, in their special sauce that seems to be some kind of shellfish bisque with real bacon bits. The rice soaks up that rich and it might strike you as decadent sauce beautifully. The seafood special sauce is the hidden gem at this steakhouse. The shrimp; not overcooked, become unbelievably incidental to the sauce. Yes, the shrimp flavor comes through, but you are definitely hit by the sauce and they offer that special seafood sauce on a few other items on the menu. I can confidently state each of those other items on the menu with their special sauce should be hits. Then I ordered the large American Grill to go. They include a few tasty sausage links, a decent pork chop and chicken breast, some flank or skirt steak with beef short ribs, the latter two being more impressive, but all needing the chimichurri for the assist. This is why I am giving three and a half stars. The American Grill, like all meat served in any steakhouse, particularly steak, should stand on its own without regard to sauces. The flavor of the meat should come through unassisted, if it is quality meat. This is a test one can apply to any steakhouse and La Fusta is limited to three and a half stars for this reason, along with some other steakhouses with far more prominent names across this City. One will appreciate the family atmosphere and traditional decor of La Fusta. It is peaceful inside and a welcome break from the nature of NYC. The people working at La Fusta are welcoming and my waiter was good at guiding me through the menu. Families and friends can come here and not be afraid of the check. One of my buddies invited me to have dinner at LA Fusta on Saturday night and since it had been a while since I came, I accepted. The parking in this area has always been challenging, but the meal that awaits you here is certainly worth looking for parking! As I mentioned before, I had not been here for a while but there was a sense of familiarity walking in the front. This place has been a staple of the neighborhood for decades and still did not disappoint. The owner recognized both my buddy and I and greeted us which is very nice of her. The waiter who has been here for decades also recognized us and gave us a warm family style welcome. We were both not having any alcohol because of lent and they understood immediately. The waiter quickly made a ginger ale and cranberry juice which was quite refreshing. I ordered it 2 more times during the meal. Normally a pitcher of red sangria would have been in the table! I will certainly do that next time I return. They are known for their delicious empanadas! They are so delish. Instead, we ordered a shrimp cocktail and the watercress / Shrimp salad. This salad consists of quite a few shrimps, watercress, red onions, tomatoes, lime beans, avocado in a vinaigrette base. It just tasted so fresh and good. Perfect to start the meal. We both ordered the skirt steak, fries and spinach. There could not have been a more satisfying meal for that night than this! A good Argentinian bbq place with huge portions. Lots of meat. We ordered some empanadas for apps and then straight to the main attraction, the Parillada. The two main variations of parrillada are the Argentinian and the American. The only difference is that they swap out a couple of the meats on the american (it has chicken and pork chop). The sides are a little weak and wish they had other options, but you can't go wrong with all the meats dipped in some chimichurri sauce. Really delicious Argentinian skirt steak. The lunch special is a good deal ($15) even if the steak portion is a bit smaller because it comes with a filling side and a huge bowl of really fresh tasting salad plus soft hot bread with butter and chimichurri sauce! All of it was good. I ordered medium rare because I was afraid they might overcook the steak but they didn't (it was truly a medium rare) so next time I might level up a bit to medium even though I thought it was also fine as is. I went to this old school Argentine spot (open since 1970) a while back with a large group. The staff was pleasant and the portion sizes were large. While I preferred the meat (especially the steak) heavily from La Esquina Criolla (in Elmhurst,) the service was better here and most things outside of the parillada was better here. They oddly had a very good margarita here. I'm not sure why it was better than most Mexican spots have been to but it was simply flavored and delicious. They brought out bread with chimichurri which was fine (I've had better of the latter.) We started off with a shrimp and avocado salad which was massive and very tasty with fresh large shrimp and a boatload of avocado. Sure it was pricey but it was worth it. The provoleta had a great texture though I'm not sure if the prosciutto was needed as it was already going to be a bit salty regardless. Next came out the parillada or mixed grill. This came with Chorizo, Morcilla (Blood sausage,) Tira de asado (Short ribs,) Mollejas (Sweetbreads,) Chinchullin (Chitterlings/small intestine,) and Entraña (Skirt steak.) The chorizo was tasty as well as the morcilla. The short ribs didn't have enough meat but the meat was fine on them while the mollejas/sweetbreads were also good. The bit of skirt steak in there was tasty but there was definitely more offal than anything else. We also got the Vacio/Flap steak which was unfortunately a little bit tough but the flavor was good. The Pollo a la Fusta with bacon and onions was very tasty while the Higado enceballado/Calves liver with sautéed onions were also pretty good. In terms of side dishes, the Russian salad/Ensalada Rusa was good and I would have preferred a slightly more crispy Papas fritas/French fries. For dessert we got the panqueues (pancakes/crepes with dulce de leche) on my recommendation and they were excellent here. They had some burnt sugar on the outside (perhaps on purpose) which help to reduce the sweetness and added a fun texture. 0 complaints at all about the dessert and well worth the I believe $12. Overall the food was good but there were definitely some issues. This is excellent Argentinean food for a reasonable price in Queens! We've been coming here for years and returned here today. I had my usual half-chicken from the grill; others in my party had the skirt steak and the breaded chicken cutlets. I should note that the menu says "veal Milanese cutlets," but they only have chicken cutlets, which was a slight disappointment today. My favorite side is the French fries Provencal, but the mashed potatoes are lovely as well. Everything was delicious, and we have enough leftovers to last for a week! We are also big fans of the shrimp and avocado salad. On other occasions, we have ordered the dulce de leche dessert, which was phenomenal. Was recently at La Fusta on a Thursday night at 7:30pm. We had reservations but the place was almost empty. We ordered empanadas (spinach, chicken and beef), 20 oz skirt steak, mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. All of the food was good but could have used some more seasoning. One of our lunches came with fries and mashed potatoes. We ordered mash and salad. The sides were under discussion when we ordered and we tossed out any number of combinations. I can understand the confusion. We were given salad in addition to the two starches to make sure we got what we wanted in the end. This was done quickly and without any fuss. Our server was perfectly fine, very friendly and happy to accommodate us. We made his shift by tipping in cash and well over 20%. Hey, we're all just trying to get by, lets be kind. In addition to the service I wanted to mention something I read in other recent reviews. I realize that the prices just recently changed, like really recently. This is completely understandable. The other comments mentioned that the portions seemed smaller. I noticed that this time, with the couple of dollars increase from our last visit a couple months ago, the portions more than made up for price changes. We could not finish our lunch and took some home. Leftovers are going to be faboo, as soon as I finish posting this. :D I would highly recommend La Fusta if you are not anticipating old school steak house bowing and scraping. Once we sat, our waiter of seventeen years, since the business inception greeted us with a kind smile. Warm dark beer just has no place especially sitting next to what appeared to be a great steak. The Avacado Salad was fifteen dollars --- maybe one Avacado and maybe four shrimp -- it was a unfair price for such a pitifully poor appetizer. My medium rare cook temp came out more like Pittsburgh -- or Black and Blue if you prefer upon the very first cut, clearly an error. I made no noticeable quark and cut thinner slices as the meat was tougher than I would have thought and I'd still be there chewing if not for matchboom sized incisions-- it was an unfortunate surprise. The sides were really terrible, definate frozen broccoli, most likely frozen spinach and definitely -- instant mashed potatoes. The sign of a once great restaurant that now has the name and the customer base to take shortcuts and maximize profits. The room is comfortable, classic decor, friendly well dressed waiters. The menu is large. Appetizers, soups, composed salads, pasta, entrees, seafood, grilled meats and steaks. We have tried many things over the years but, when we come here now we usually get a 20 oz skirt steak a watercress salad (la fusta salad) , garlic fries and a blood sausage. Not for any reason other than, i associate this place with this particular meal. Please try more things. Branch out for me. Lots of families, people celebrating or just bringing good vibes. You sit down, drink some wine, eat a bunch of garlic and steak. Prices are great too. Dessert should not be missed. That dulce de leche crepe thing, get one of those with your coffee. So our favorite steakhouse closed recently and my wife and I have been looking for a "replacement" place. My wife had heard about this place thru some co workers so we decided to give it a try. Parking is mostly metered but there might street parking on the side streets but this place is already on a side street. We went on a Monday early evening and we were lucky enough to find a metered spot right away. The restaurant itself is quaint but decent sized. Two seating sections and they have a bar as well. There's a big flat screen in the main dining area where we sat. I didn't get a look at the other section which was separated by a half wall. Being a Monday night it wasn't busy and we were able to pick our own table which is nice. Service was good and they start you off with some chimi churri sauce and bread. We got a salad for both of us as an appetizer and we both also had the small skirt steak. Both were very good. The steak as actually decent sized for the small one and it was pretty good. You are their guests: they ask if you'd care for a drink, and give you the menu. They bring your drink. They return 15-20 minutes later, ask if you'd like to order another drink, and your appetizer. When they bring the appetizer, they ask if you need another drink, or anything else. What I'm saying about La Fusta, other than the best kept secret steakhouse in NYC, is when you go there you are family, and they expect you are spending the evening with them. A good steak place is hard to find, especially one that is reasonably priced. La Fusta is one of those. This gem is an unpretentious neighborhood restaurant. As a matter of fact from the outside it is not something to write home about. For us it was an accidental find. We had been walking past for quite a while when we saw a couple going in. We asked how it was and the said they were going for years and now travel from Long Island to eat here. For me that is a sign that I should try the place so we did. Good sign number one. When you walk in you are in a cramped area near the bar where the waiters are walking between the different sides of the restaurant. It seems to be in three different rooms. Tables are pretty close together but otherwise I found the interior rather charming. We were a party of four so we decided on Empanadas and Shrimp and avocado salad to start. The beef and chicken were excellent. Both had olives and was seasoned to perfection. The spinach, which I did not taste looked just so so as the spinach wilted inside and was rather sparse. The shrimp salad was off the hook. Very refreshing watercress, Avocado, onion and tomato with a nice vinaigrette. We all ordered the small skirt steak with a veggie.Two of us had broccoli and two had spinach. For me the broccoli was overcooked while the spinach was fine. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered and had a chimichurri filled with garlic dip the steak in. To drink we had the Sangria which was a perfect accompaniment. read more

Skirt steak done right every time, accompanied by fries, chimichurri and Malbec, of course! This neighborhood Argentine restaurant is definitely one of my favorites, has been a local institution since 1970 and is as authentic as you can get. They're reasonably priced and the food is definitely good quality... even the bottles of wine are priced reasonably ($30 for the one we opted for). Definitely a must for a date night with an elegant atmosphere and a place that won't break the bank. read more

I thought that one of my friends had recommended this place to me, but it was my imagination. It was a happy accident. The food is terrific. You start off with some warm bread and herby chimichurri. We ordered the Sangria pitcher and a Margarita. I'm sure that their website says that their Margaritas are famous all over town, but that Sangria was the one that you want to get. It's overloaded with fruits that complement amazingly well with the red wine. It's sweet, but not artificially or overly so. You can finish it easily, and have the fruits left over for dessert. I got the Large Argentinian Grill with the Chorizo, Morcilla, Tira De Asado, Molleja, Chinchulin and Entraña- a sample of most grill items. The chorizo was pretty salty, which was to be expected, but the morcilla(Blood sausage) was surprising also salty. The spices of the morcilla were definitely unique and nicely pungent, though. The rest of the meats were just a tad over cooked(past medium when medium rare was requested), but still tasted fairly good. The char from the grill was easily recognized, covering at least half of each piece, which could either be a good or bad thing, depending on your taste. If you're getting sides, skip the French Fries Provenzal, even though it's the most expensive one. They're thin fries topped with small bits of garlic that don't really disseminate or bring much flavour to the fries. Mashed Potatoes were standard. The real star of the meal, however, was the Family-sized Shrimp and Avocado Salad. The shrimp was fresh and plump, with the avocado to act as somewhat of a sauce to combine the two together. Onions, watercress, and a delicious vinaigrette to cut through the fattiness of the avocado. Food was great, parking was free(which is usually a terrible hassle for me when in Elmhurst), waiters were polite and accommodating, and live music with an old-school environment with random photos hanging on the walls. It's a great place to check out. Just save it for occasions, because this place is not at all cheap. read more

Everything just GREASY and no flavor. I ordered A steak and avocado salad it's all over with Olive oil like it's flooded. No flavor only grease and sour and must be really cheap olive oil because the taste it almost like vegetable oil. The beef is no flavor the way they grill it's medium rare juicy I gave a thumb up for that and good sangria that's all. NEVER EVER STEP IN HERE again.
