Christo's continues to show why it remains one of Queens' premier steakhouses. From the moment we arrived, valet parking made things easy and the service never missed a beat. Our waiter was friendly, attentive throughout the meal, and knew both the menu and specials inside and out. We started with the grilled octopus, house dips, and a thick-cut slice of bacon. The octopus was tender with a nice char, while the bacon delivered exactly what you'd expect from a steakhouse appetizer--simple, rich, and satisfying. For the main course, we shared a Porterhouse for Three and a ribeye, accompanied by mushroom risotto, garlic mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. The steaks were the highlight of the evening. Both had an outstanding crust while remaining perfectly cooked inside. The porterhouse in particular showcased why dry-aged beef has such a following. The mushroom risotto paired especially well with the ribeye, while the garlic mash and creamed spinach were classic steakhouse sides executed well. I also tried a Negroni before dinner, which proved to be a great choice and complemented the appetizers nicely. The dining room strikes a balance between upscale and comfortable, with an old-school steakhouse feel that lets the food and service take center stage. Great for a special occasion--we were celebrating both Father's Day and a birthday, and the experience felt worthy of the occasion. We stopped by Christo's Steak House for Easter dinner with a group of seven--no easy task to please that many people, but we made it work. We kicked things off with three bottles of Malbec, which was excellent and easily the highlight of the first round. The appetizers--Caesar and Baby Arugula salads, Fried Calamari, Lamb Cigars, and a half dozen each of oysters and clams--were just okay. Nothing bad, but nothing memorable either. For mains, we went all in with Christo's Signature Porterhouse for 3 (63oz/$185), Charbroiled Salmon, Baby Lamb special, and a Sea Bass special. The steak was cooked well and had solid flavor--definitely the standout among the entrees. The seafood dishes were fine, but again, not particularly exceptional. We finished the night with a selection of desserts, which were nice but didn't quite redeem the meal. Service was courteous, and the ambiance definitely leans upscale and festive, but for the price point, the food was hit-or-miss. Christo's was a great dining experience. The atmosphere was quiet and the service was great. Our server Luiz was very accommodating and explained the menu items very well. He was very attentive as well as the other staff in the dining room. The Greek olive martini was very tasty. We started with the crab cakes which were very lightly pan fried on both sides and tasted very light and fresh. The Greek spreads were so tasty and different from one another. I couldn't get enough! The pita was homemade and warm. The bacon had a sweet glaze under it and was charred to perfection. The steak was cooked perfectly and our server plated it for us. We got a horseradish cream sauce to accompany our steak. It was delicious. The sides were a great addition to our meal. The creamed spinach had frizzled onions on top of it that were the perfect touch. The Mac and cheese was baked and topped with bacon. Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. What an experience, from being greeted, to the fantastic service and amazing food! We enjoyed the steak house and its warmth in ambiance which was classy and sophisticated. We started with a few appetizers, which was the caesar salad, calamari, thick cut bacon, baked oysters and crab cakes. All were just full of flavor and very fresh ! Next was the dinner, I opted for the lamb chops which were cooked perfectly, very tender and full of flavor . I ended up have the broccoli with roasted garlic and it accompanied the lamb chops perfectly! We also ordered the lobster mashed potatoes which was this fluffy mixture of whipped potatoes and lobster, very rich but worth every bite! Someone also ordered the porterhouse for 3 which was shared amongst the table, the steak was cooked perfectly medium well and the cut was very tender . Dessert was an array of all the desserts they ordered but my favorite was the oatmeal apple crumb cake it was so soft with slices of apple, raisins and it crumbled into the vanilla ice cream which was insanely good! so glad I had that with my espresso. Nestled in an unsuspecting neighborhood, this place has an upscale and classic vibe inside. Friendly staff, very knowledgable about Steak, the menu, the specials, and great with conversation as well. Decor screams traditional steakhouse but the place happens to be on a random block in Astoria. Service was great, the waiter took his time to answer questions and give recommendations. Fries were crunchy and flavorful. The filet half of the porterhouse (cooked medium) was great; the strip steak part was a bit tougher. Had calamari as an appetizer; it was decent but not enough tentacles were scattered throughout for my liking. After getting through a quarter of the steak, went into a food coma at the table and couldn't finish the rest. Main takeaway: if you're getting the porterhouse (or really any steak dish on the menu), come very hungry, don't eat any bread, don't eat any appetizers, just be ready for the meats. Although the place is a little small there is a parking garage attendant to eliminate the parking aggravation one experiences in the city Had the rib-eye which was cooked to perfection and the side dishes were plentiful and delicious especially the mashed potatoes, Asparagus, and spinach. The service was outstanding with friendly and attentive staff. As I mentioned although somewhat small it was a traditional setting with beautiful wood work for those traditional diners. I was slightly disappointed with my experience here. Firstly, it was very loud in the restaurant and I think it may be because the ceiling is so low. As more diners came in, it became difficult to have a conversation with the people at my table. Then you have our server who didn't smile the entire time. My sister was horribly annoyed by this and thought he was nasty, but I don't think he was. I just don't think he smiles. In this instance, a smile can go a long way. Or maybe they didn't care since the 18% gratuity was already going to be added. Let's start with the appetizers, we ordered the calamari, baked clams, and crabcakes. The best of the three was the crabcakes, but at $27, I would expect them to be great. The calamari was slightly chewy and could've been a little crispier. The baked clams were good, but nothing to write home about. Then we ordered two porterhouses for three. (There was six of us) We ordered one medium rare, and the other one medium. The medium rare one came out a little closer to rare which I was fine with since that's what I prefer But had to go with the majority. The medium porterhouse was cooked really unevenly. There were parts that were overcooked and parts that were undercooked. Somebody ate it, so there was no point in complaining about it. Unfortunately, the meat itself did not have much flavor. The steak couldn't carry itself without all those sauces and the fat cap could've been rendered better. The steaks came out with the House steak sauce, Bernaise, and shallot borderlaise sauce, but I missed that on the menu. We ordered the blue cheese and au poivre sauces which we may or may not have ordered how do we known we were getting all three sauces already included. Anyways, out of all the sauces I thought the house steak sauce tasted best. The red wine sauce was a close second, but it needed a little more seasoning. We also ordered a side of creamed spinach and brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were delicious, but the creamed spinach was too salty. This was unfortunate since creamed spinach is always my go-to side dish for steak. Overall, a not so great experience after spending 600+ dollars. We also ordered two cokes ,they brought us two glass bottles about 8 oz.they call it Mexican coke .I have no idea why but they charged me six dollars for a 8 oz coke . We both had the ribeye cooked medium rare, I think it was well seasoned and I enjoyed it without any of the sauces that it came with. The wild mushrooms were tasty. I made a reservation for 6:15PM on a Thursday, but there was no need for it as there were plenty of tables. We celebrated a birthday dinner here, as there doesn't seem to be many steakhouses in Astoria, and this caught our eye. We got the lamb cigars and the Prime Wedge for 2. Lamb cigars had a thin, flaky filo dough covering ground, seasoned lamb meat, which we enjoyed. The Prime Wedge was so plentiful when it came to meat, and was on top of a bed of crispy potato chips, and the waiter offered all 3 sauces when we were unsure of what to get. The Christo's sauce was by far our favorite - a sweet sauce with flavors of horseradish and berries. The Shallot Bordelaise was very muted, and the Bearnaise is a cousin of Hollandaise sauce, and felt too fatty and rich for meat. We had to get a box to go, and got some extra Christo's sauce without extra fee. I really liked the service and I didn't feel nickeled and dimed at all. It was tough like a supermarket steak with little to no flavor. For the price it was very disappointing and why I gave only 2 stars. The sides were ok at best. I've had better creamed spinach. Lobster mash was ok, not great. It's not cheap and maybe because the bill was pretty steep I expected alot more.
