Hands down Gastronomia has the best pizza in the area. I've had four of their pies so far, some of their salads and the Tiramisu they have on offer and all of it has been excellent. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the hours they keep, but I guess they can do whatever they want when they serve food this good. I was working in Grass Valley today and decided to stop in and get lunch. My sandwich was delicious and all the spreads,meats, cheese and grilled vegetables were very yummy, lots of fantastic flavors. I really only had one issue, their menu is incredibly difficult to understand. There isn't a clear/big enough display and divide of the ingredients you can choose for your panino. It's kind of confusing how to go about ordering a sandwich and what the available ingredients are. Would be nice if they had more beverage options and sides/chips for your sandwich. On a side note, I also tried a puff pastry pocket with maple syrup and cinnamon, it was heavenly! read more

Definitely worth a visit. The prepared foods such as the Lasagne Bolognese, etc. are delicious. Here are suggestions for the consideration of the owners: 1.) Put a few tables outside on the sidewalk, 2.) Put a large menu on the wall behind the counter, 3.) Your sandwiches are tasty, but consider changing some of them for American tastes. For point #3, consider visiting AG Ferrari and Molinari (Columbus Avenue) in San Francisco to see what kind of sandwiches Americans prefer from Italian delis. The individual ingredients in La Gastronomia's sandwiches are delicious, but in my opinion they're not exactly what Americans prefer when combined. I think you'd sell a lot more if you studied the SF delis I mention. read more

Oh, come on how could you not love this place. I've been to Italy, Cinque Terre, Rome and he Abruzzo region and this as authentic as it gets. Husband and wife team have put together an amazing restaurant which uses only Italian products to produce wonderful Panni sandwiches, pizzas and pasta dishes. I have been in La Gastronomia one time, and it was enough to make me a lifetime customer!! The cheeses, meats and all of the homemade goodies made my mouth water. I was able to try a few samples, but could have sat there all day sampling. Unfortunately, when I returned to get some appetizers for a holiday party, the store was closed with a note stating that there were issues with their visas!!
