House Salad with arugula, tomato, cucumber, and balsamic dressing.
    Carson M.

My family and I were exploring Grass Valley and came across this local Italian restaurant and saw that it had great reviews online. The restaurant was cozy and had lovely artwork. Once we had ordered I went to use the restroom and almost hit my head twice on the broken door hinge. When I came back we were served lunch and my waiter forgot to make sure my Fettuccine Alfredo had chicken as requested. I didn't say anything and wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt since he was new. Once we concluded the meal it felt like they forgot about us and we were waiting an extended amount of time to pay the check. The owner came to bring out a dessert for me which was on the house because it was my birthday. I thought it was really sweet and so did my parents but we were also trying to hit the road on our journey. Overall the lunch was decent but I also hope they can make some improvements.

I heard you were open for lunch through a yelp notification ? Is it true?

yes! open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30am to 8:30pm

Why aren't your hours posted anywhere?

Hi! You can find our hours on our business profile here on Yelp, or on Google, or you can download our latest menu on our website www.lagastronomia.us We are open Wednesday…

Does anything come with sandwiches Are the pizza large?

The sandwiches come on their own (and they are fantastic). I find that a small side salad ($4) really rounds out the meal. The pizzas are medium-sized. Someone with a REALLY big appetite could eat a whole one at one sitting. I have managed about 2/3…

Do they serve beer or wine?

We will at the end of the month hopefully! Beer & Wine license coming

A bit kitschy in the decor but pleasant, spacious and very nice. The service was extraordinarily friendly, attentive and helpful. We felt like family were waiting on us. As we got menus right away there's a good variety of choices. Since the essence of the restaurant is Maltese I was particularly intrigued as I know nothing of that cuisine. We started with a cup of the soup of the day, a Tuscan bean soup, that was delightful. It was full of beans and fresh vegetables in a hearty soup base. Although a few choices in the salads and sandwiches sounded appealing I instead chose the Lamb Maltese pasta. On a bed of farfalle (bowtie) pasta it comes with lamb pieces and a slightly spicy red sauce. All very delicious and I found it to be a very tasty dish. The only downside was the lamb chunks were not the usual, long and oddly sized, plus very chewy. Overall it didn't really diminish the dish. While we all were quite content and full our server brought out an incredible array of amazing looking desserts that would wow anyone. Unfortunately there just wasn't an appetite left for it. However, I will remember that for next time. I will definitely go back to try other things. This is a wonderful place for a pleasant meal.

Both sides were excellent--the crust had just the right balance of crisp and chew, and the toppings were fresh and thoughtfully put together. The real surprise, though, was the Caprese salad with peaches. It was so unbelievably good that we completely forgot to take a picture before it disappeared. Honestly, it's one of the best salads I've ever had. The peaches added just the right amount of sweetness, and everything tasted incredibly fresh and perfectly balanced. By the time we finished, I was completely stuffed, but my boyfriend still found room for the homemade Oreo and mint ice cream. I was too full to try it, but judging by how quickly it vanished, I'm guessing it was just as good as everything else we ordered. The restaurant has a fun, laid-back atmosphere that feels welcoming without trying too hard, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit. Bicycle Thief is absolutely worth the drive to Grass Valley, and we'll be making it a point to come back.

Probably won't be back for the pizza, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it an awful experience. The place was cozy and clean, and the seat was comfortable. They are are so professional and accommodating, plus attentive. They are the best. Even though it was early brunch I decided to try a Bloody Mary. It was disappointing. Tasting watered down it had absolutely no liquor punch at all, just a watery drink without much tomato juice. I'm always amazed to look over the 100+ omelet items on the menu but decided on a Cajun Benedict instead. It comes with long sliced sausage (Andouille?) between the eggs and muffin. Overall, it wasn't that spicy so I covered it with hot sauce, Cajun country Tabasco. The poached eggs and sauce were good, but that's where it ended. The muffins were way too small for the dish and got lost in the other stuff. I didn't find the sausage to be all that flavorful either, and definitely not spicy. I got it with hash browns which weren't anything special. Very ordinary. I may have hit an off day but I left feeling very underwhelmed. Fortunately the service and ambiance overshadowed the food by a mile. Perhaps next time I need to try an omelet!
