Stopped here after a backpacking trip. Was going to stop in auburn but this was closer. Decided to take a chance. Vendure (sp?) pizza and Traditional Cheese for the kid with a beer and 2 sides of ranch. Vendure had Kalamata, red onion, mushrooms, and cheese. The ranch was thick (not what I prefer) but not too heavy and delicious. My friend got the Funghi pizza and they made her kid pasta with olive oil and Parmesan. I loved the Vendure and cheese. So much flavor and the crust was perfect. My child had no qualms. Accepting the cheese pizza and ranch. The Funghi pizza was a white pizza. I tried it and wasn't super excited about it. It wasn't very mushroom forward despite its name. But I didn't order it because I prefer a red sauce pizza so I'm not counting it as part of this review. 5/5. Super friendly staff, the cashier was super friendly as we took our time combing over the menu. The Campania was the pizza we chose to accompany our beers (which there were a great selection of). We sat at the little table outside and soaked in the sun while we enjoyed this gorgeous meal by amazing folks. This, this is the spot. My soul needed this. read more

We were in town visiting my other half who was working on a job locally there. We came across this amazing place by accident and man are we happy we did!! The staff was friendly and had amazing recommendations! First of all the meatballs are a must!! I don't even like meatballs usually but we decided to give them a try and wow they were to die for! It's been over a month since we were there and my other half and I still talk about how amazing they were! After having the amazing meatballs and great Caesar Salad we tried the pizza! It did not disappoint. Literally everything we tried was better than we ever would have expected. This is our new favorite place to go anytime we are in the area! Run to try them don't walk RUN! Heard they were under new management. Haven't been before this weekend, but my partner from New Haven said it was the best pizza he's had in California so far (second best is Drake's in West Sac). We ate the crust, it was good (a key factor in a good pizza). The tomato sauce was very plain and than could be improved upon. The white pizzas were perfect. Half pear/gorgonzola and napoli: Thankful for the amount of arugula served on top of this, got my salad/greens serving :) but also somehow the arugula perfectly fit in the fold of every pizza slice! An excellent blend of funky gorgonzola and sweet pear. Solid amount of all toppings, prosciutto waa very nice slightly crisped. Half margherita and cinque terre. I'm not a huge fan of anchovies and capers, but I could get down with this. Would only recommend for those who like fishy fish flavors. I did think it was a little too salty, but I'm not sure how you would resolve that given the ingredients (maybe rinse the capers a little?). However, the saltiness was the only thing really saving the very bland marinara. Completed the meal with cannolis. The cream filling is made in-house and it was very good. They do it right by filling them per order instead of filling them ahead of time, which would make them soggy. The filling has some kind of dried fruit in it, a nice touch. So thankful we found brick oven real Italian pizza locally! They have a $10 lunch special for the Margherita Pizza, it was really good. Tried the Salsiccia next, love the peppers and the hot honey. Sorry didn't take a picture, but pizza was great. Legit wood oven. I had the pepperoni with hot honey and pineapple but as a regular thin crust and it was really tasty. I had their white detroit pan pizza (prosciutto, arugula & balsamic) as part of a to-go order--exceptional crust, generous toppings and quality ingredients. Their tiramisu was LEGIT, with that signature, gentle booziness that it ought to have. I would absolutely eat here again if I was in the area, and I can only imagine their other style of pizzas are just as top-notch! Online ordering and fast, efficient pickup when we arrived--I didn't run inside, but was told their customer service was friendly & that they took the time to review the order to ensure everything was perfect, which is always a plus. The restaurant looked full, well-lit and folks inside looked like they were enjoying themselves. While I might normally give a place like this a 4 star rating, I feel like it's a bit of a hidden gem and really stood out (especially when compared to the nearby competition; we noticed a lot of pizza joints in the surrounding area). The pizza was delicious. Owner/manager said the dough is from Italy and we asked if it was double zero and he said yes. Great service...all of the staff was kind and quick with collecting finished plates but we didn't feel rushed to get out of there. On our our way back from Soda Springs, and on a sunny winter day, we stopped at Il Pizzaiolo in Colfax, hoping for a slice to keep us going 'til we got home in Sac. Instead of mere sustenance, we got one of the very best wood-fired pizzas we'd ever had. The pear-gorgonzola was perfectly balanced (in the Italian sense of exceptional ingredients, and a light but not miserly hand with the pear, gorgonzola, mozzarella, bacon and arugula). And it sat on one of the best executed Neapolitan crusts anywhere. On top of it, we had our dog with us, and the host/server graciously set us up out front, with a full bowl of water for our pup. Place is pretty quant inside. Very nice workers. 3 beers on tap and a lot of others in bottle. Pizza was okay. Very thin. Very floppy. Not a ton of great under carriage but it was okay. Not as good as the Loomis location. While boating at Rollins I went to both pizza places in Colfax, this one is muuuch better than the other. But, I eat at the Loomis Pizzaiolo often and I would vote for the Loomis location when it comes to the pizza, the dough and the marinara sauce. Not sure why, but the care for creating and the ingredients seem much better. When in Colfax it's a great place to grab a pizza and some beer! read more
