Love the menu selection, everything I've tried so far has been perfect. The smothered pork chops really hit the spot.

I had a very bad experience at La Glorys. On their menu it specifically states on Sundays the have oxtails, ribs, chitterlings. On Sundays they open at 12pm. I was there at 12pm. I ask for a chitterlings dinner...they tell me chitterlings would not be done until 130. I had a problem with that since they open at 12. I decided to get oxtail soup since it was Sunday and the menu says, "oxtails" on Sundays. The girl says to me...no oxtails today. I point out what the menu says....the worker says to me, "she only makes them when she feels like it." Literally, this is what is said to me. I tell the worker I would come back at 130 per I had to be at work at 1230. I tell her I will call before I come since I will be pressed for time. She then says, "no chitterlings orders over the phone." Even though I was willing to pay for my meal while I was there, they would not accommodate me. Now during this whole time no one offered an apology, no one offered to make my experience better. Really, all the workers looked at me like I had a problem. Honestly, I felt they thought, "our food is good, who cares what this customer thinks. Customers will still come." This is the reason why I will not patronize this establishment again. If I'm not valued there is no way I will give this establishment my money. Very disappointing!!!! read more

I ordered from them online to pick up and take home. The online ordering was a little confusing but if your entree doesn't show side options just put the sides you want in the special instructions, as I was told when I called them. I got smothered pork, rice and gravy, and mashed potatoes. The rice was ok, everything else was fantastic! That pork made me so happy. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I am so confused by all the positive reviews for this place's food. The service was friendly and that's where the 2 stars are coming from; otherwise I would've given zero on food alone. The walleye was so dry, probably because it was such a thin fillet that was over fried. The fried chicken portion was very small -- are these baby chickens??? The mac & cheese was dry as well, which is not surprising considering it was sitting in chafing pans. Note that much of the food was sitting in chafing pans, which I don't think we're being heated enough if at all because our food was served lukewarm. We made a 30 min trek south to try this place given all the positive reviews and were disappointed that we did. If you want fried chicken, you are better off going to HCT, Double Comfort, or really any another other place in this soul food devoid city. read more

This small Mom/Pop shop is a favorite. They are NOT a chain so sometimes you need to go with the flow, if that's the case, there is always something tasty to eat no matter what. My favorite is the smothered pork chops, meatloaf, and green beans. My bff says the mac n cheese is fantastic ( I don't eat dairy). I find the cakes rather dry, for myself, but they are beautifully made. The staff is friendly and efficient. I called this restaurant as a potential place to cater a meal for a family who lost a loved one. I experienced poor customer service from the lead cook/owner. I wanted some Soul Food so I went searching on Yelp and I came across this place. After reading the reviews and looking over the menu online I decided on the "Chicken & Waffles"....The staff were friendly and greeted me as soon as I came in the door. Once I ordered I was informed that on Sundays they do not serve Chicken & Waffles, but instead serve a "Sunday Dinner" with a large variety of options to choose from. I told the staff member who was waiting on me that I was unaware of this, as it was my first time visiting. The staff member then turned to the kitchen window and had some words with the cook, then turned back around and told me that they were going to make me my chicken and waffles. *gasps* How awesome is that?! I hadn't even tasted the food yet but that gesture alone instantly turned me into a customer who was going to return very soon. While waiting for my food I was told that they were out of waffles, but they still has kid sized waffles and could use multiples equal to a regular waffle. I happily agreed, as not only do they not even serve waffles on Sundays but they also ran out of waffle mix as well and they STILL found a way to accommodate me and make me a happy customer. The food was AMAZING! The chicken was very moist and seasoned perfectly. They gave me such a generous portion that I was only able to eat half of it. "La Glory's" will definitely get a loyal customer out of me for sure. And the icing on the cake is that I recently moved to the Bexley area and this place was literally just 4 minutes from my apartment. Score! read more

This was my first time at La Glory Cafe and I have to say it definitely won't be my last. The breakfast special was both delicious and economical, but what stood out was the hospitality. I ordered two eggs over easy and was given an additional egg because the chef broke my yolk. I would have eaten the eggs whether or not they were broken, but I appreciate the kind gesture. I just got home from my first visit to La Glory's Cafe and I can tell you, it's not going to be the last time I go there! The food was incredibly amazing. I had some macaroni and cheese so delicious it makes me cry that I've wasted time and calories on boxed products. The corn bread was moist and delicious and the mashed potatoes with brown gravy were fantastic. It was all so good I barely had room left for some sweet potato pie and that's when I realized I'd made a mistake saving that for last! I had to pack my pie to bring home and that's OK, because it's so wonderful I really just wanted to sit at home with a mug of hot tea and that pie and growl at anybody who got too close to me while I was eating it. A PBS cooking show did the "perfect" recipe for sweet potato pie. Well, I tried that recipe and I thought it was pretty good. However, that was before I'd had La Glory's sweet potato pie, now I realize that pie I made was just terrible. La Glory sets a high standard for their food the service was also friendly and competent. I'll be back there soon, even though it's nearly an hour drive from home to get there! read more

Pitch black outside and Pouring down rain driving in an industrial area near Airport, looking for La Glory's Soul Food Cafe and all You see is a Roach Coach Taqueria and a Lounge, but don't fret its behind what looks like a church. Plenty of parking and closing in fifteen minutes(1900). Never you mind they are happy to accommodate with genuine friendly and personable service even at this late hour. There are booths and tables and two televisions for distraction when alone or with someone less talkative. They are well known for their Chicken (Boneless) and Waffles, but with closing time upon us the Catfish sounds great. Cornmeal breaded filets deep fried to a golden brown with two sides of Collard Greens (These are the best had in recent memory). Whole green beans cooked in bacon and expertly seasoned. Yellow cornbread on the side for good measure. Ask for a lemon wedge for your fish and they'll bring you plenty. In Columbus Ohio and needing/wishing for some home cookin like Momma or Maw-Maw used to make then head on over and enjoy a good meal at a fare price. You can even mix your own Arnold Palmer, alas with pink lemonade. Sweet Tea is good without if you prefer. Try the Chicken and Waffles and let us know.... read more

I'm new to the Columbus area and was craving soul food. I came onto yelp to look for a local soul food restaurant. This was the closest in my area, but still about 20 minutes away. I called in my order, first two attempts went to voicemail. That was understandable, it's Sunday. Probably busy. I called once more and was put on hold for FIVE MINUTES without muting. All I heard was minor chit chat, no one came back to the phone. I hung up, and called back. The man who answered this time seemed annoyed. I ordered anyways, (meatloaf meal with greens and Mac & cheese, and a slice of banana pudding cake) then asked for the total. His response? "I don't know...well I can tell you the meatloaf meal is $8.99." Then I asked if he could tell me how long it would take. "Well it's Sunday, so...give us at least 10 minutes." I got to the spot, and it wasn't very busy at all. So, I'm giving two stars. The food was okay, a little too salty. Portions for the sides were kinda skimpy. The cake was dry. And the customer service, although not outright rude, was very lackluster. It seemed as if they didn't care whether you patronized them or not. Save your coins, buy a recipe book and cook for yourself instead of eating here. read more

La Glory's is the best soul food spot I've been able to identify in Columbus. I always get the catfish, macaroni and cheese, sweet potatoes, and collard greens. I've also had the breakfast and it was good as well. Be sure to try the banana pudding cake--it's delicious! read more
