Stopped in for dinner while staying nearby. There are a lot of places to eat out on the edge of civilization they call Palm Desert, and it is honestly tough to know what is actually good versus what just benefits from limited competition. That said, Pueblo Viejo Grill was legitimately solid. I love crispy chicken tacos, and they are harder to get right than you would think. A lot of places land squarely in the mediocre zone. These were not that. Pueblo's version was quite good and easily lands in the top half of my personal crispy chicken taco rankings. Service was pretty good, especially considering the place was packed on a Friday night. You could tell they were hustling. What really stood out is that it is family owned and operated. I had the chance to meet the owners and they were genuinely very nice people, which always adds something to the experience. Given the setting, surrounded by new construction and not a ton of competition, this place could probably get by with less effort. But they do not. They deliver a solid meal and a good experience. Overall, a great choice for dinner. Just bring a little patience when they are busy. Solid 4 to 4.5 stars. read more

I haven't been here for quite a while but needed to get some dinner before the world series game started. This is their second restaurant, and their food and service have always been consistent. The strip center is going under renovations, but all the businesses are open. Parking is complimentary and in abundance. The eatery offers daily happy hour pricing on food and beverages. I chose the happy hour taquitos and chili relleno & shredded beef enchilada. The food tasted just like I remembered when I use to frequently visit the Coachella Valley. I would suggest this Pueblo Viejo Grill when visiting the Coachella Valley or if you're passing thru to your final destination. read more

What a cute little restaurant. Sat on their pretty patio next to a pretty little waterfall. Started with some fresh, warm chips and salsa. Both were tasty. My friend and I shared a steak burrito filled with rice and beans, then covered with sauce. Pretty basic...good, but not outstanding. The beef was cut in very small cubes but didn't have much flavor. I also think that should have served it with at least a dollop of sour cream and probably guacamole, too. My friend ordered a beef chimichanga with rice and beans. That was served with a dab of guacamole and sour cream. Rice and beans were good, not outstanding. What impressed me was their large selection of margaritas. We had one hibiscus and one guava margarita. Delicious and served in very pretty glasses. Service was friendly. read more

I made a huge error. I ordered from the Indio location but meant to order on the Palm Desert location. Husband got there realized the error I made. We order from this restaurant every time we go through Palm Desert, it's our favorite - now more than ever. They were very understanding with my error and got my order taken care of. Highlight was probably the service. Waiter was friendly and attentive. Food was mediocre. I was treated so can't comment on price but hopefully wasn't too bad of a bill considering the food was mid. Got a combo plate: chile relleno & cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. None of it was very memorable, however, it did taste good quality. Homemade although the flavors weren't great... when I think Mexican, I think spice and sadly that area was lacking. I say in multiple reviews that if something ain't spicy, it's bland - so personal problem but the type of food I am eating technically should be spicy. At least mildly. Please. I ordered a whole chile and it was still not spicy. Salsa was smooth textured, which I'm not a fan of. Chunky restaurant salsa is part of the reason I love frequenting Mexican restaurants and sadly, it's getting difficult finding spots that serve it that way. Requested a different starter salsa that had more spice and it was still not spicy and also smooth textured. I'm tired of the bland, basic trend that is Mexican food nowadays. We stopped for lunch while we were in Palm Desert on Sunday and it was wonderful. The ambiance was positive and when we lived in the area this was one of our regular spots for good Mexican food. Tito was our server and was fantastic. My wife ordered the chicken enchilada entree with green sauce and I had the tropical chicken fajitas. Ordered the 'Tortilla Chicken Soup" With out a doubt, The worst ever. This soup is typically served with strips of tortillas on top. But... No Tortillas. No Chicken. No Flavor. Very watered down. Price was THREE times for the same soup in other restaurants. SAD! Then ordered another dish. Very bland. So, I asked for either of two Mexican sauces, Cholula or Valentina. They had neither. Mom and I went for the first time on a Sunday at 4:30 here in palm desert and they were really busy! We were shocked how busy they were , the chips were home made, the salsa was delicious, the service was excellent, and we enjoyed the chili relleno. The only thing we didn't love was the flan and maybe the chicken taquitos that were fried a little too crisp. But over all the five stars was for being so pleasantly surprised at our new find. Also they had fresh fruit margaritas which were so good but they don't put much alcohol in them. The outside looks like fast food so we never went in until I saw the inside on yelp. Listen, the food, once we got it was hot and tasty and maybe worth the higher than usual prices - the service was unbelievably BAD. We had a brief 15 minute wait to be seated. Right after being seated chips and salsa arrived. It then took 10 minutes to take our drink order where we ordered signature cocktails and glasses of water. It was 96 degrees outside and we waited TEN minutes after asking for it for a glass of water - that does not require a bartender. 10 minutes after the water was delivered the dinner order was taken. At the same time, my husband ordered a second bowl of salsa, which is not complementary - we would have to pay for it. That's 20 minutes after being seated to place our food order, some may be ok with that, I think it's too long. 10 minutes seems to be where they set their timer because 10 minutes after taking our food order our drinks arrived without that second bowl of salsa. 15 minutes after our drinks arrived is when we received our dinner order, still no second bowl of salsa and my husband repeated his order - he really likes salsa. 20 minutes after being served dinner, our server came to check on us. My husband had given up on the salsa order, but we did put in an order for two more of the signature drinks. 20 minutes later when the server came by our table and noticed my husband's plate completely cleared she asked if we still wanted our drinks. I replied if our drinks were not there in under five minutes, we didn't want them. The server was back within three minutes to say " I don't have your cocktails, do you still want them.? That was the end of that ..... I said no we had waited too long and she replied that I was still eating so no harm no foul - There is no room for a server to make an excuse in this situation. The cocktails were to accompany our meal, not our dessert. We didn't have the check, but I estimated the cost of what we were actually served and my husband gave the woman a $100 bill. The server probably would've been sick if she knew how many hundreds were in his wallet and that he is an excessive tipper, typically 100% . It was her loss but we felt the pain. Probably the most insulting thing was our perceived prejudice. My husband and I are both of Latin descent. I am European Spanish, I'm he's from Puerto Rico. We look to all outsiders as very much Caucasians. 90% of the other guests in the restaurant appeared to be of Mexican origin. That is an assumption but to an outsider looking in it appeared like the white people were getting a different class of service than the guests that appeared to be Mexican. Had the server popped over to say something like "the bartenders a little backed up... or we've got a big party that just came in so we're gonna take care of you but it might be a minute or two. ANYTHING to acknowledge that we were not being served would have alleviated most of our frustration and disappointment. Hubby has a sense of humor and once we were back in our hotel he says "so this is what it's like to be a "dreamer" I was dreaming of a nice dinner after our long drive, yet what we got was a long wait for no results" Don't go here - there must be other places that you can choose. If you do come here don't be surprised if you have to wait so long that you celebrate another birthday or anniversary waiting for your order. read more

We are visiting Palm Desert/ Palm Springs and forgot things close pretty early here. But this restaurant was open until 9pm (they actually stayed open until about 10pm). The staff was very sweet and helpful. The Caesar salad was surprisingly good and I had a tortilla soup, it was just okay. My mom had a chili relleño and a crispy taco, she had no complaints We came on a Monday, and it was margarita Monday and we got $3 off on margaritas which was a great surprise ! read more

This is a small unassuming restaurant but with excellent food! Very casual and family friendly. I make it a point to come for dinner every time we're out in Palm Desert. Being Mexican, I can be picky about Mexican food. However, I have to say Pueblo Viejo Grill's food is consistently authentic. My favorite is the hard shell chicken taco combination plate. The taco is excellent and the rice and beans taste just like my mom's cooking. The chips and salsa are great. Though they have a full bar (with televisions to watch sports) give never had a drink, but the Margaritas look fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a casual lunch or dinner spot with excellent Mexican food. read more

We love the simple decor and quiet ambiance. Service is welcoming, friendly, and attentive. When I ordered the margarita made with mezcal, our sweet server asked me if I'd had mezcal before, to be sure I knew that the smoky flavor and robust alcohol content wouldn't shock my conscientious. I had, I knew, and the cocktail was pure liquid dynamite. So, so GOOD. The House-made salsa and tricolor chips are fresh and fantastic, easy to get carried away. But save room, because the entrees are incredible. We had the fresh vegetable fajitas, spinach-mushroom enchiladas, and chili relleno- all excellent. Gone Down Hill! It was never great but it was one of the better. Like most restaurants in valley quality and quantity are extremely lacking. Service is always great. Nothing here ever tastes fresh. I've had a lot of the items. Recently I thought I'd try the shrimp tacos and they were gross! Soggy and no flavor. There's always a crowd but it's mostly the elderly. Their cocktails are made with the cheapest liquor, which I hate! Makes me I'll. I love places that take pride in their ingredients and homemade mixes as much as possible. My suggestion to owners is to get back to basics and do a refresh regardless if you're making profits. Shocked how great this place is. Outside it looks like a strip mall fast food place. Inside you are transported to MEXICO. The ambiance is beautiful, the bar is nice, the patrons are fun. No loud music. Unfortunately, TVs everywhere but sound off. Buffalo wings are all the good side, not both and are great tasting and the happy hour margaritas are to die for. Tables in the dining room are so close together the only wheelchair friendly / accessible tables were on the edge of the dining room and people at the edge of the seating area were just starting their dinners so we waited long time for an accessible table.
